Intro Track: Dania - Below Zero
If you are an independent artist/in a band/ know someone in a band that needs an opportunity to be heard - Email: ⚠️DFBusinessEnquiries@gmail.com⚠️
for an opportunity to have a 30 second snippet of your work aired at the beginning of one of my videos!🤘🏼

Hey guys - trying to learn a new editing software so the output of videos may slow down slightly, also not feeling the best at the moment. This lockdown situation is taking it’s toll on my motivation levels, I’m sure plenty of you are in the same boat at the moment!😅 Hope you’re all keeping safe and in the best of health. Thanks for continuously supporting my videos and helping keep my mind off things❤️
Well now we all now he's gotta react to Car Bomb 😏👌
Trathnona maith, mo chara. About the lockdown- as ya know yerself, a coupla new eases have been eased into tings, such as a bit more walkabout space if you head outside. And over 70s can get a bit of air outside the house, - much to the delight o'me Da.😃 To be honest, as I live with elderly parents, I have hardly left the gaff since early March. About once a week to run quick errands in town, thats it. I have a front and back garden to chill in the warm mornings to ,and I actually have a routine most days inside, so Im alright with tings. Staying safe. Hang in there, mate. I know up in Áth Cliath is pretty severe with it all. Its not as bad here in county Wexford, but I aint going nowhere till its better. We gotta see how the "first phase" that the Taoiseach implemented the other day takes off o'er the fortnight ahead. As for the reactions- keep 'em comin! I cant say Im a fan of Meshuggah, but I enjoy the reaction videos. If you'd like up to date metal with Melody, and incredible guitar solos and progressive power- I recommend Trivium! New album "What the dead men Say" is fecking brilliant. The title track and "Catstrophist" are good starts. There is a good balance of excellent, melodic singing - huge hooks to hang on to, and some shouty parts to add to things. Hope yer doin grand- sláinte.
You do what you can Drew, don't overdo yourself mate. When you get back to Meshuggah I can't stress enough how amazing Dancers to a Discordant System is. I personally feel it's one of the best written songs in metal, and maybe even any genre.
@@kylereece1979 Appreciate it Kyle! Better safe than sorry staying in doors! Hope you and your family are safe dude.
@@jonny5696 Thank you sir.
Listening to Meshuggah is like being in a knife fight with 5 other people, but only one of them has a knife and you have no clue which one it is.
Lmao wtf that's the best analogy I've ever heard
This made me laugh so much! So accurate!
haha thank you so much for this one. perfect.
That's so wtf and I can't argue with that!
I literally laughed out loud at my job reading this 🤣
I recommend doing Meshuggah - Straws Pulled at Random. The ending is really beautiful.
I listened to that song after a fairly long time a few days ago. That night I had a hard time going to sleep because the riff that starts playing at 3:06 of that song kept playing in my head and I couldn't get it out of my head. Great af song and also a lot different from usual meshuggah
I would love to see more reactions to Meshuggah's more groove oriented tracks. I wholeheartedly second your sentiment and and would like to shout out Beneath from the Destroy Erase Improve album as another example!
Drew:
I'm not that far into heavier metal
Entire comment section:
*We need to go deeper*
One does not simply go deeper than Clockworks!
@@Enydrath u can
@@IvefoundthetruthonMay Sure you can, we're pretty deep already tho. But i'm curious, can you elaborate?
@@Enydrath
I'm talking deeper as in:
Gris - Il Était Une Forêt
Sacramentum - Far Away From The Sun
Darkspace - Darkspace III
Windir - 1184
Taake - Nattestid Ser Porten Vid
Vinterland - Welcome To My Last Chapter
Master's Hammer - Ritual
Weakling - Dead As Dreams
Meshuggah are great but they're definitely one of the most well known progressive metal bands out there. You can't say they're deep, because they're not hard to find at all
Heaviest thing I've ever heard was Heilung - Svanrand
Dancers to a Discordant System with lyrics pulled up just hits different than most songs
Imo Dancers is their most unique and brain melting song. The whole song is from (yet) another world.
Laughing Walrus The “Tool-iest” Meshuggah track. It’s awesome.
Yes this and Behind the Sun are my favorite Meshuggah tracks
The trick with catching that groove with Meshuggah is to just trust Tomas. Follow that high-hat or snare and you'll always be riding right in that pocket. It's really the guitars that fuck with the time signature.
Most of the time, that's true, but on songs like Clockworks, the only thing really keeping the four alive is the math involved. Bleed is super easy to dissect because it's basically spoon-fed to the listener, but not this one.
Straws Pulled At Random by Meshuggah!
The outro will touch your soul
On the other hand the intro... :D
The outro to this makes me tear up and I don't know why . I never thought I would say that about a meshuggah song, but it does move me.
@@anthonylambson6398 I feel the same. This section is one of Fredrik's very best in my opinion. The melodic approach blends in so well with that signature Meshuggah-riff at the end.
yyyeeessssssssss
@@anthonylambson6398 check out ritual if you REALLY wanna cry at a meshuggah song
I truly believe this is one of the finest songs written of any genre, another modern masterpiece by Meshuggah alongside Dancers To A Discordant System (which id love more than anything to see you react to)
Dancers is a must do.
+1 for Dancers
Came here to say this. Meshuggah's best song without a doubt, and yeah in terms of any genre I'd have to agree there too. It's literally perfect. And the riff that drops in at 4:40 is probably the heaviest riff ever written in any genre too. I don't think you could top it, no matter how down tuned your guitar may be.
It's funny, but with much of their music, if you keep bobbing your head in 4/4 at the initial tempo, the different layers of music will periodically "line up" again right at the end of a bar.
So most of Meshuggah's music can actually be grooved to in plain old 4/4, if you manage to get comfortable enough with all the layers flowing over each other. Really satisfying once you get it!
^ This. =) Just keep noddin', the song will catch up
And that's because most of their music is in 4/4.
@@the_tatertot1 Teeeechnically, yes. But of course it's more complicated than that. There are many different layers, often playing in different time signatures. There are many ways to notate that, not just 4/4.
Well yeah I know that, since I am a drummer and understand their rhythmic patterns.
@@the_tatertot1 I want to start drumming so badly but the circumstances don't allow it. In the meantime I'm constantly drooling over drum videos on UA-cam...
Absolutely do the drumcam for this one. It's incredible to see him grooving with almost non-stop rumbling ghost notes.
And do Nostrum's drumcam as well. It's really one the most unique and interesting metal tracks I've heard, with incredible hand work by Tomas. It's from the same album as Clockworks.
Many people will say this and it is correct: Most of Meshuggah's music is an odd-time rhythm juxtaposed onto a common 4/4. So once you lock onto the hi-hat and the snare, you can _feel_ the odd riff sort of modulating around the 4/4 (called a polymeter). Therein lies the key to enjoying the Mesh!..............Also you've started with a couple of their most challenging songs; I would recommend Rational Gaze and Demiurge for slightly more accessible stuff...
^ This.
[He did Demiurge at the end of March. =) Rational Gaze or more stuff of OBZEN would be good.]
I hate to be that guy, but it’s technically polymeter, rather than polyrhythm.
meshuggah is such a strange band, it's quite uncommon, that people have to give you instructions on how to enjoy it :D
they should put guides in their albums for how to listen to their music xd
@@voldren well I've enjoyed Meshuggah's music since the first time I heard it. It sounded just so freaking cool to me even though I didn't totally get what they were doing. There are plenty of things like that... ever seen a David Lynch movie? I don't totally get those most of the time either or requires multiple viewings but I enjoyed it each time. I guess I enjoy strange things LOL. Tool also, I enjoy the first time when I don't get everything and with each listen you figure out more stuff and the feel of the grooves also become more apparent... kind of a strange phenomenon.
@@Egoblivion well, i'm a fan since the first time i've heard it too, i've just seen tons of reactions to meshuggah, where people are confused about their weird time signatures, and people in comments advising them on how to properly enjoy it :D
i just find it funny, that someone has to explain, how to listen to music, but understandable in case of meshuggah xd
Behind the Sun by Meshuggah. It starts slow and drags, but builds into this massive sound and its incredible
Probably one of my favourite tracks, it just gets more and more desperate as it goes on. Gotta be one of the best tracks of the genre for sure
I agree. Behind The Sun is underrated, but one huge and grand song which is also should be an intro to most new listeners
One of my faves too. Especially the drop after "Remote cords extend, the trusses they run
They stretch all the way behind the sun" DROP. So good.
The drum playthrough of this will blow your mind. The drum parts are almost too crazy to comprehend until you see him play them. It's amazing to watch
I still think that drop at 6:00 is one of the best of any song ever.... It's like the whole song you're in these crashing waves of sound and then that one second you get to surface and breath before the next huge wave pummels you down again.
The track that doesn't let up.
Dancers To A Discordant System
ObZen
Corridor of Chameleons
Straws Pulled At Random
You forgot Electric Red
You forgot Catch 33
@@JeffRyemon I see I'm not the only considering Catch33 as a single giant track... I mean, I know that it was kinda the point of the album
You forgot their entire discography
«It just kept going» LOL! That is indeed Meshuggah in a nutshell. Spot on, my youtubefriend🤘
Meshuggah is brutal meditation! Once you get into the groove, it is just plain brutal meditation.
And please let us enjoy the drumcam for this amazing song🙏🏻
Thomas Haake is such an amazing drummer. He is (in my universe) one of the greatest alongside Danny Carey the legend!
Another stunningly good drummer is Baard Kolstad from the mighty Leprous, and I kindly ask you; please do a Leprous reaction🙏🏻
Anyway; your reactionvids have become a part of the daily routine. Keep it up, you make a lot of musiclovers happy🤘
Why can't you play an instrument and live in TX so we could jam!? Tool and Meshuggah!!!
Meshuggah - Electric Red
Meshuggah - dancers to a discordant system
Meshuggah - I am collosus
Meshuggah - straws pulled at random
Space Time by Gojira please, I think you will love it.
Rational Gaze is a banger from these guys.
Something that always fascinated me and surprised me when I first learned it is that the drummer Tomas Haake also writes all of the lyrics for meshuggah. I remember learning that and I was just like holy shit this man is crazy! And his lyrics are insane and just a lot to take in and almost have to be read over on their own.
Oh man once you had listened a lot of stuff like this u can realize that it's one rythm, one tempo, when you can feel it and count it it's just beatiful how Meshuggah plays with your mind jaja
This is about as relentless Meshuggah have ever gone!
if there's one Meshuggah music video you gotta see just for the lols it's New Millenium Cyanide Christ
Meshuggah is not the band you get wild with. You almost need to meditate to give it a proper listen. Also, if you want to nod your head to Meshuggah, just follow Thomas's cymbals. They are very into personal transcendence, hence the trance like gooves/beats you hear. Meshuggah is the band that a lot of other bands get ideas from. They are trend setters and push the boundaries of what can be done with instruments. Truly an inspiration to anyone into music.
I agree with others here.....I think Dancers to a Discordant System would be up your alley. I know for a fact you would love Do Not Look Down as well.
Drew would LOVE 'Do Not Look Down'!
Finally dude! Let’s get some Meshuggah rolling once again!
Edit: I think you would dig By the Ton
Why didnt you do the live drum cam version? Cmon guy, now you know you gotta do that next.
When you listen to Meshuggah it's really helpful to think of it as trance meets metal, also that it's polyrhytmic, so just try to latch on to a groove for a few listens, then try to find other grooves to follow in other parts a couple listens later. Eventually the brain will be able to flow with the whole context of their sound but it's kind of a process lol
Great reaction like always. You should do the drum cam next or Meshuggah "Nostrum" Drum cam
Combustion, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, and Break Those Bones Who Sinews Gave It Motion are really accessible, groovy Shuggah songs. I think you'd dig.
Meshuggah are one of my favorite bands now, but they're definitely an acquired taste. Keep up the great vids man!
Don’t forget us opeth fans 😛
saw your reply on my comment the last steven wilson video haha
@@kalebcech2362 yeah man.. 😅 He need to have repeat listens to them to truly appreciate their sound
@@suluz168 i feel like he needs something a bit easier to get into so that he ''gets'' them yaknow? once he ''gets'' it he'll love it all but it just needs to click. Part of me thinks the heavy groove riffs of blackwaterpark (despite him not liking growls) could do it. The other part of me thinks that a proggier song with more cleans like hessian peel could also do that.
@@kalebcech2362 True... A fair judgement is also perfectly fine I guess... Maybe Burden as well
Dancers to a discordant system!
Straws Pulled at Random and Dancers to a Discordant System are more "easy" songs to groove (at least considering Meshuggah patterns). Straws Pulled at Random even has some nice melodic ending. But of course, they're completely unpredictable in ANY of their songs hahaha (and that's what I think amazing about them)
Power Trip - Soul Sacrifice
Power Trip - Crucifixation
Power Trip - Divine Apprehension
Power Trip - Hornet’s Nest
Really been enjoying your videos man, would love to see a reaction to Behind the Sun at some point, it just gets heavier the longer it goes it's actually ridiculous lmao
I got the pleasure of seeing them live, got right to the very front. Hits different man, the low end of those 8 strings was like nothing I've ever heard. Tomas' footwork is killer, Jen's vocals have definitely deepened and developed since this came out. The lightshow is played live too, they help to follow the bends and rhythms of all the instruments. Absolutely astonishing how clean they can play this live. For me, they are the pinnacle of progressive metal, and if you ever get the chance to see them, I can assure you that you're in for a treat.
Keep up the videos, and if you've got time during this quarantine, I'd highly recommend listening to Koloss by Meshuggah in its entirety, you won't be disappointed x
Probs my favourite Meshuggah song honestly
YEES , another awesome Video , sir! Further recommendations are : Straws Pulled At Random , it's an older track from them , but more consumeable :D and also Do Not Look Down , a slower track , with a lot of polyrytmic stuff circulating around the 4/4
Definetely my favourite Meshuggah track. The groovy bridge in the middle is amazing headbanger.
Meshuggah is a band to experience live. Their playing with their sound and lighting is such an intense and primal experience.
You should listen to Dancers of a Discordant System. The groove in the second half of the song is the best.
meshuggah- the hurt that finds you first
meshuggah- suffer in truth
My first Meshuggah song was. Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion. Its slower and more groovy. A perfect starter song.
Still waiting for Blackwater Park
You MUST checkout the drum cam version of this song! It's just in the studio of Thomas and the best one of all in my opinion.
Check out the Drum Cam Video.
New Millenium Cyanide Christ has more of a groove to it. It's one of my favs for that reason.
You should definitely do the drum playthrough on this track! It's just so enjoyable to watch :)
I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, their tracks Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters.
Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :)
Halloween is a great jumping off point, the last two albums have cleaner vocals and are, dare I say it, easier listening :) than the earlier stuff.
Jaguar God is the kind of music that I didn;t think got made anymore and The Last Baron has a real beauty of a riff.
Meshuggah is definitely like going on a trip to some unknown place far away, following your GPS. You aren't familiar with the turns to take, or how long it will be - you're just along for the ride, going left, going right. But, your second or third trip, you're starting to get familiar with the turns and waypoints - and then start looking forward to certain ones. Eventually, it's just an easy ride that you enjoy.
you're getting the hang of them, finding the groove in the chaos. Hi-hats and cymbals are the key. they're defo not gateway metal, they're the jazz of metal!
Violent Sleep of Reason blows my mind, great album
yeah the drum cam for this track is great, really puts everything into perspective.
I'm gonna keep recommending Passionflower by Job Gomm. It's not metal but you're gonna love it, I have a feeling. At the least you'll be stunned. Do the video with 17M views. (There was another version years after the first that doesn't have the soul of the original.)
This definitely isn't a beginner Meshuggah track. I love the lyrics from Clockworks though, I hope those stick out to you on future listens.
The lyrics to BLEED makes my cry.
Hell yeah, do the Haake drumcam video too! :D
Meshuggah "Do Not Look Down" from Ophidian Trek, live. If you havent seen it already. 😁👍
Meshuggah - Born in Dissonance
- New Millenium Cyanide Christ (Alive DVD)
Meshuggah are gods. The ultimate metalband. You really need to get into it. Chech out dancers to a discordant system live video
you should see the drum playthrough for this... holy shit!
Maximum the Hormone - Yoshu Fukushu. Thanks ❤️
Before I really started listening to metal I was recommended meshuggah. I hated it but it got me in the door to listen to similar and slightly less extreme bands. 4 years later though they are one of my favorite bands and one I will never stop listening to. You really hit the nail on the head in your immediate comments, or at least it resounded with my personal experience.
Hello, and welcome to headbanging 101. Posture is important when headbanging. Many stances work. We have the slightly leaned back, broad legged with hands in pocket stance. In this stance the bang comes from the back and up to neutral head position. We also have leaning forward, one hand on the knee looking into the ground stance. This stance works great with long hair. Here we use mainly the forward motion in the bang, only passing by neutral position on occation. Lastly, for this class we have the broadlegged, airguitar holding headspinning stance. In this stance we utilize the full range of motion in the neck. This is not recommended because of the high risk of neckinjury. The most important thing in headbanging is a steady beat to sync your headbangs to. Alright that concludes this lesson. Now lets apply what we have learned by listening to some Meshuggah
I always feel like I just finished a workout after listening to a Meshuggah song.
As a drummer I must say that I am more impressed with Clockworks than Bleed, there's a whole lot happening here that is probably overlooked by most non-drummers. Ghost notes on the snare, rhythmic alterations incorporated as a part of the song, each fill is particularly unique. When the band is repeating some of the verse riffs Thomas Haake is doing something entirely different than what he did the first time you heard the riff. This song would be damn near impossible to duplicate because Haake is just on another level of supreme drum mastery, I mean they not only invented Djent but also perfected it like no other band could ever hope to do at their level. When you revisit this song, check out the drum cam, the recording is a little more drum heavy but it helps to see the master at work to better understand what form of insanity they have concocted with this song.
Hey, you should try Cult of Luna. They are a athmosferic and heavy group from Sweden. I'd recommend "The silent man" or "Lay your head to rest"! I hope you'll like them!
This, or something by Isis.
@@ignaciogrigera4100 He would love Isis, one of the best bands in the genre. I hope he'll react to them someday
Saw them at Archtangent in Bristol, solid band live
Incredible track. The band is unreal. The older stuff in the 90s is more like Metallica which is crazy to hear how they progressed to this. Favourite metal band at the moment as I only started to listen to them this year too. Wish I did it years haha.
If you want something from Meshuggah that has more of a consistent groove to it you should check out "Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion" as well as "I Am Colossus"
If you haven't already, try their song Combustion. It was the first Meshuggah song that drew (see what I did there?) me in. It's the closest they have, IMHO, to a "straight" time signature song.
I heard they recorded this album live in the studio... yep...
Meshuggah is the quantum physics of Metal 🤘
Definitely have to watch Tomas' playthrough video of this song. Millenium Cyanide Christ is a song with a little more groove too.
Please do watch the drumcam version of both this and Nostrum, they help visualize how insanely complex the drum patterns really are... watch out for the slippers though, they kinda steal the show! 😆
If you dont get the obligatory metal face @6:05 you need to see a doctor. That´s the heaviest riff in the universe.
drum cam better be next!!! lol
I’m still hoping for some KORN. Blind Woodstock ‘99 😁
Slaughter To Prevail- Demolisher!!
Listen to Neurosis! Maybe the song Sovereign, or The Doorway. It's different than Meshuggah but it's the heavy hypnotic hyper-anxious wall of sound they create in a lot of their music that gets me. Just make sure you're ready to vibe, my dude. Especially on Sovereign, it's a longboi.
Dancers to a discordant system LIVE
Unique performance
if you are interested in more odd time stuff, I suggest some Animals as leaders! just instrumental . Tempting time, cognitive contortions, Kascade,or Somnarium would blow your brainz.
Dancers to a discordant system, straws pulled at random, ivory tower, by the tone, born in dissonance, behind the sun, closed eye visuals, do not look down! Got more for ya but I think you will really dig these meshuggah songs! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
the way to headbang to music like this is to find the beat at the start of the section and then just power through the timing changes along to the original rhythm. if you can make it through the whole riff you'll usually find it syncs back up at the end
I think you'll like Lethargica by meshuggah
Monstrous track
Meshuggah, NICE \m/
Meshuggah - Do Not Look Down
Man he would love old Meshuggah so much more...
Check out Humilative!
Here a new song that is getting a lot of attention. and for good reason!
Without spoiling too much -
Real or modified vocals? What do you think?
The song is - DEMOLISHER by Slaughter To Prevail
meshuggah
Slaughter to prevail - Demolisher. Promise you won’t be disappointed lol
i do get what you said about Meshuggah that they are not that welcoming to newer metalheads, but trust me when your a full metalhead you will absolutely love them.
I think a good next step for Meshuggah reactions would be either Behind The Sun or I Am Colossus(music video for this one is good)
Both those would be a bit easier on the ear, yet still having depth and heaviness in buckets ^^
This track is almost literally like a train. A train that is going to destroy the world, or at least your city
Please do Dancers to a discordant system! and Electric Red.
Behind the sun by Meshuggah
You should do with Messhugah the same thing you did with Tool... It can be a very graceful journey
Take a breath with Rational Gaze. The whole song is just a badass groove.
Nah the section near the end can be difficult to listen to due to all the snare displacement. The section immediately after the main theme is played alternating between snare and kick.
@@JohnSmith-hl7kd Yeah, it does get a little messier in that part. But for the most part, it's one of their easier songs to just groove out to.
You should definetly listen to New Millenium Cyanide Christ, their best song imo.
Alright Drew, Behind The Sun next and then The Demon Name Is Surveillance both by Meshuggah of course
Drew, for some real "groove" from Meshuggah, you need to hear 'Do Not Look Down.'
Of all their songs, it's probably the one most likely to give you what you're looking for, musically. 🤘🏼
Hey drew,
You should check out the band kataklysm with their Song like angels weeping. It has some interesting 'machine gun' drum parts and a really heavy/groovy outro. Pretty Sure youd like it. Other Songs by them to check out would be crippled and broken, or as i slither.
