I highly HIGHLY recommend you do Dancers to a Discordant System. It's a masterpiece from start to finish, especially the end, and the riff starting at 4:40 is, at least in my opinion, the heaviest riff any band has ever written. I honestly don't think anyone will be able to write a heavier one.
As for Clockworks, it's a good song but it's definitely not the next one that I would recommend. Enjoying seeing what you do anyway.
Hey man, seriously try hearing their earlier stuff, they've been around for years, check future breed machine from their Destroy Erase Improve album. It's worth your time trust me. They had completely different styles over the years and I really feel people only give attention to their later stuff unfortunately. Dig their old stuff up its some of the greatest metal ever written. Cheers mate.
Also like that guy said. Dancers to a Discordant System or basically anything from their Obzen album is also worth it. And Chaosphere and Nothing. Even earlier days stuff. There's really a lot to dig in. Enjoy.
earliest stuff has a huge Metallica influence that you can hear too.
Bleed is the song that gets long time metal heads into Meshuggah. Demiurge gets everyone (roughly) into Meshuggah.
@@Spasstiful Thank you for your highly valued opinion, really adds to what I was trying to say. /s
@@Spasstiful unbased
For me it was transfixion. on mtv headbangers ball at like 3 am on a wednesday night.
How bout bonesm
"New Millenium Cyanide Christ" is a great song they released years prior. The live video is awesome as well, you get to see how talented they all are, with a little shred solo from Fredrik Thordendal
i c wut u did der
Do you mean the music video? Theyre kinda playing live there xD
Wont spoil it for the rest, but yes! A bit more accessible compared to some other tracks, but def one of their best!
@@coloripple there is a live video. The live video is better than the studio recording
Yea NMCC is a great song. A lot of Meshuggah songs end up being 4/4 over several bars but in the shorter term gets broken down very strangely, and NMCC is a perfect example of that.
Meshuggah - New Mellinium Cyanide Christ
Yep. Incredible lyrics as well.
and the video is dope :D
One of the first Meshuggah songs I heard... it's still tangible to me today.
thats my ringtone
The thing I love about Meshuggah is they manage to flaunt just how technically talented they are as musicians and writers while stilling grooving and being heavy as fuck.
"Combustion"!!!! 🤟 The song is insane! Plus, I don't think there are a lot of reactions to it
Have never seen a reaction video to Combustion.
Fast and awesome as HELL 🤘🤘
Gojira - Where Dragons Dwell - Live at Hellfest.
Hey guys, should we tell him about Devin Townsend? Maybe Live at the Royal albert hall of Deadhead?
Keep the meshuggah's coming tho.
Its gotta be emgtv kingdom first and then Royal Albert deadhead lol
Meshuggah - Perpetual Black Second
I’ll suggest Clockworks again too.
absolutely my go to song on the way to work - Perpetual Black Second 🤟
All of his point above the groove in this one having more “replay value” seem to be valid. I think very similarly. I disliked Bleed as well. But for some reason, ever since I actually got in Meshuggah, Bleed has made it’s way to the top of my Meshuggah playlist. Something keeps bringing me back to that song.
Calder Lund that’s one of my favorite songs from them. The way it just punches the senses in every way.
New Millenium Cyanide Christ and Dancers to a Discordant System.
Also, if you want to be a legend, react to Meshuggah 'I'. I don't think anyone has done that full song yet.
Yup! Clockworks... like I mentioned before. Absolutely my favorite drum cam video.
I would highly recommend New Millennium Cyanide Christ, and also the live version, because it's mixed so much better than the original IMO
This!!!
You need to listen to Meshuggah - Rational Gaze. You would love it. Also you gotta checkout Spiritbox! Start with Rule of Nines.
Do Not Look Down is another great song by Meshuggah. Awesome that you’re listening to them, one of my absolute favorite band.
If you want more groovy stuff then I strongly recommend The Bad Thing by Periphery. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yes! "Do Not Look Down" would be a great next song!
I think you might like Dancers to a Discordant System or Straws Pulled at Random by them. A bit more diverse tracks.
Dancers to a discordant system is one of my absolute favourites. And it's so fucking hard to pick. The more you listen, the more you understand every single track, the more they grow on you. Pretty much all the discography is insane.
Dancers to a discordant system was my introduction to them, been hooked since.
@@jeffdevries6508 Thank you. Tracks from the Nothing are the transition point in when they mixed in more jazz elements, had more discernible grooves taking place, kind of giving a transformed heavy metal sound--while still experimenting with time and growl vocals.
dancers to a discordant system es un temón
@@jeffdevries6508 me too
This is the sound stars make when they turn into black holes
I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters.
Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :)
Mastadon! Blood & Thunder or Black Tongue.
I feel like you'd enjoy "Dancers to a doiscordant system", it's very similar to demiurge in the sense that it has an amazing groove to it, those were my two favourite tracks by meshuggah.
Hell yeah. dissonant sway...... That lyric always stuck with me and how the groove made me feel
demiurge and rational gaze by meshuggah have the most groove out of all the songs they've ever written.
5:53 yep, thats me when i heard demiurge for the first time. It happened to be live aswell. I only knew bleed the day I saw this guys perform and it absolutely blew my mind since it was their last song. They've become my fav metal band but it took some time before I got used to Jens vocals and the "in your face" sound. Demiurge is better to get into them, ppl always goes for bleed but that's not where is at (imo) if u r not familiar with this type of metal.
Glad to see you followed my advice on this. What a banger of a track this is!
Channel growth is good before the end of the world! Thanks for the entertainment dude
Frozen Factory Music 🤣🤣🤟🏼
It took me a while to really get into meshuggah.
And especially to understand how the vocals working meshuggah und follow a rythm as well.
Demiurge and the Koloss album helped me to really understand their music and get into it and from there on I started liking their other stuff more and more and they are one of my favs now.
amazing stuff.
And one of the things I've only recently understood is just how atmospheric they are.
The Contortionist - Language I: Intuition & Language II: Conspire. These need to be played back to back as one.
This guy knows what he's talking about.
I was thinking about this band today and I noticed it's the best band to listen to while playing Doom. Is that just me?
I've noticed that the new soundtrack is very djenty.
Check out octavarium by dream theater, an entire 24 minute experience which, at least when I heard it for the first time, made me go "woooaaaaaah"
Swarm, Clockworks, and ObZen are my favorite Meshuggah tracks heavy and groovy asf. Check them out
Rational Gaze bro , i am glad you're enjoying them , i can see you feeling the groove and really understanding what Meshuggah are about , React to Rational Gaze by them
As a professional musician myself, I've always thought Tool and Meshuggah were closer in style than most other bands in the genre. Both bands sound like absolutely no one else, they have complex lyrics that tackle very tough subjects and they're masters of crazy polyrhythms. More alike than different. Cheers, Drew. Stay safe.
Yeah, it's strange...ever hear much King Crimson?
@@Egoblivion I like King Crimson but think of them as almost "Jazz Metal"? Simply for lack of a better descriptive. Not quite as heavy but, yeah, definitely on the list of influential, unique bands. I know Danny Carey and Bill Ward (from Black Sabbath... obviously) are HUGE jazz fans. Cheers. Wherever you are stay safe.
@@kingbrutusxxvi Well, King Crimson is one of the pioneering prog-rock bands from as early as the late 60's. They would explore odd-times, polyrhythms, and polymeters in previously unparalleled ways. To say that Tool is merely influenced by them would be an understatement. Also, about jazz, Meshuggah's early work was basically "thrash-jazz fusion."
@@Egoblivion Agreed. Fredrik and Marten switching to 8-strings really changed the direction of the band. Stay safe.
I think you'd also really dig Tesseract. They're fellow europeans too!
One of my favorite bands.
The Demon's Name is Surveillance is a nice leg day tune by them. I think never played live for a reaoson. I suggest looking up some drum cover video for it.
yes drew do clockworks. that's a great one too.
Straws Pulled At Random next! Or Do Not Look Down. Or New Millenium Cyanide Christ it's ok too.
Dude you should watch the Thomas Hakke playthrough of "Clockworks" - better audio than the "Bleed" playthrough and as it's in their studio you can actually see the genius at work. Even if you don't react to it you should check it out. It's incredible!!
Also "Break those bones whose sinews gave it motion". *chef's kiss*
Dancers to a Discordant System good introduction..next is the whole of catch 33 album
I saw Meshuggah live a few years back and it was such an insane concert. The energy in the room was tangible so much fun.
Collosus, rational gaze and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion. Clockworks is a good track to react when you are a bit further in the journey, imo
I love your videos for many reasons.
Hey man, Stengah from "Nothing" album is a very cool and groovy song to reacto to.
Based on what you said listen to Lethargica by Meshuggah . Its very Heavy, slow and groovy from the Obzen album the same one that Bleed is on. If you get around to doing a Discography with Meshuggah I think you'll find a lot of songs fitting the heavy groovy category on Obzen.
Aww Drew don’t be sad , i know not a lot of people can enjoy Meshuggah . but most of the people , at first listen to Meshuggah totally don’t like it but the more you hear their song , it gets more interesting and enjoying more than your first one . trust me , i’m one of it too . I don’t blame you if you can’t understand what is going on , it’s okay . It’s like you eating not your fav meals or daily , but the more you try , the more you understanding what makes it so good . Drew is kinda guy i like , bcos he always jumped to the heaviest band than other genre . I really respect what you been doing , so far i really enjoyed your content man ! Keep up the good work !
Nice vid! I think it's great that you're exploring Meshuggah more! I discovered them 2 years ago and most music since them just doesn't sound as good xD. I personally recommend Meshuggah-Humiliative.
YESSSSS!!!! I was at this show they filmed the video for.. First time I saw the mighty Meshuggah!!! They opened up with this beast of a track. I suggest "Dancers to a discordant system" LIVE next.. I think its one of their best tracks.. Cheers
You should try "Soul Burn" from their early stuff, much more progressive with different sections crazy kinda jazzy drums and awesome guitar solo.
"The Outsider" -APC ;)
Its good to watch someone fall in love with metal. makes me happy. But you have to check out Devin Townsend - Deadhead live at the Royal Albert or Kingdom live at EMGtv
I haven’t even watched your reaction yet but hearing you talk about bleed. It seems like you didn’t know what you were in for haha. This is cool
I love your reactions man. If you want a song that showcases the drummers hands I highly recommend reacting to the song Soul Burn. Thanks for the great content!
Audio only might be best. I couldn't find a high quality live video.
the Clockworks video is good but it's a real head trip...if you wanna see Tomas in action again, there's a drum playthrough of that song also which is awesome
brutal amigo . ke bandota.
HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggesting to react and get into Tesseract. For a first reaction I would recommend their Of Matter studio version
Why? It's 3 songs made into one movement and not really fair. I've seen them twice, shot the shit with Dan and even I hate when people make this request.
I'm thinking prog fans just want as long playtime and technically displayed as possible and forget accessibility can go a long long way.
@@paravarium he could pick wichever he likes the best. And it is not a really bad version. Tesseract still be a Tesseract with or without this version. Otherwise he could watch "Hexes" studio version. This one is good too.
Hey brother it's for sure an awesome performance! I just don't think it's fair for a band to get a reaction that's 3 songs while other bands will only get small chances themselves. Also not everyone has the patience to listen to something longer than 12 minutes even if it's awesome.. and I'm an opeth/dream theater fan saying this.
@@paravarium LOL if a person reacts to a prog music he has to be mentally tough and ready for a 9 or longer minutes song. )))) But, like I said he can react to either or. YT is bottomless )))
KEEP DOING MESHUGGAH!!!
Can't wait to get home and watch this and the opeth reactions. Thanks so much for the content. Need distractions like this just to get by these days.
Keep up the good work and glad you're enjoying the strange spastic off timed things as of late
One of my favorite songs will always be the EP I (Pronounced Eye) which is a 21-minute long song that is closer to Demiurge than Bleed, it's essentially 3 songs they made into one.
Not that I honestly expect it to be on a channel like this necessarily ;)
(Clockwork is closer to Bleed, a few other songs first maybe)
Dancers to a Discordant System 🤘
Omg thank you so much for doing this. Love your work dude❤️ love from India
Next one : New millennium cyanide Christ
OR
Clockworks
KATATONIA-IN THE WHITE
PLEASE
Love your channel and accent btw
Cheers from Quebec, Canada
I would recommend having the lyrics to all their songs pulled up to read while listening, to me it adds so much to the song knowing what its all about. Also Perpetual Black Second is mental if you'd like to hear more :^)
Love the videos !no homo but you are a beautiful dude🙌🏽🍃love the reactions you NEED to do clockworks!!!!please it is a must
This song (the drop specifically) always reminds me of the video game doom lol
With your love for Tool I would highly recommend dream theatre for you
Hey, what's up Drew! Clockworks is another unforgiving relentless track, but the drum cam honestly makes up for it. If bleed is a 10 on a relentless meter, then clockworks is about an 8 or a 9. It's up there for sure. If you want something groovier and a bit slower, I would suggest Behind the Sun! I don't think I've ever seen a reaction to it and it's a sick lil puppy of a track. For those who know, they know what the fuck I'm talkin about. Hidden gem. Cheers from Texas!
Should definitely check out some Thy Art Is Murder eventually!
Insane band and musicianship on another level. Any musician who ever tried rehearsing a Meshuggah song understands what I say.
I don't know if you have seen this or not yet, but in the early 90s Tool used to open for Meshuggah on tour. Danny has stated in interviews before that he gives a lot of credit to Meshuggah for pushing that love of progression into Tool, he considers Meshuggah a big influence for himself
Meshuggah - Perpetual Black Second
OR
Meshuggah - New Mellinium Cyanide Christ
Nice Tool poster
The ending riff was similar to the groovy riff in tool bottom
Absolutely hit the clockworks drum cam video. Also check out “New Millennium Cyanide Christ”. I think you will enjoy it!
If u want groove metal do more Pantera!!! I'm Broken, A new level, This love (Lyric Video), mouth for war, 5 minutes alone, sandblasted skin and theres heaps more
Glad you're still going with the Meshuggah they're incredible sorry if we strong armed you into it :). If you like slower heavier riff stuff maybe try some sludge metal like Crowbar or Doom metal like Electric Wizard.
I think I recommended some crowbar the other day, thought he may dig Planets Collide to start. 😁
I'm biding my time before I recommend High On Fire. 😂
Check out Rational Gaze by Meshuggah, it's got a pretty slick groove and was one of the first songs that really pulled me in.
You should try I Am Colossus or Clockworks. Specially Clockworks, that song is nuts.
There is so many good songs of Meshuggah but yeah you should react to music video of clockworks and then the drumcam video just like you did with bleed.
Rational Gaze (make sure its the remastered version)
Or Lethargica for another song from Obzen (same album as Bleed)
If you wanna try some Technical Death Metal, you can try Archspire. (Songs: The Mimic, A Dark Horizontal, ...)
or some Brutal Death Metal with Aborted / Benighted :) (Cadaverous Banquet / Pledge of Retaliation respectively)
or maybe something totally different like Cattle Decapitation (Pacific Grim).
Thanx bro for reacting to this.
Request you to react to Gojira Silvera and Sybreed Bioactive(u will love this band too )
Hey dude. Enjoying your vids! Any chance you could do 'Fear Factory - Zero Signal'?
Another great band you should check out is Soen. It's the drummer from Opeth and they have a very Tool type of vibe. Martyrs is a great song. I spread my dogs ashes during that song and now it hits me hard every time.
Bleed just gets groovier the more you listen to it
With regards to Meshuggah Clockworks is good, I'd also recommend "I am Colossus" and "Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion"
Hey man love your content! You dhould check some early gojira stuff like love, remembrance, death of me
I agree with other comments that "New Millennium Cyanide Christ" is the one to do next. It was the song that got me in to them years ago and their earlier stuff is more accessible to a new ear in my opinion - closer to a classic thrash vibe, in arrangement, recording, tonality, etc. Other ones I'd recommend would be "Sum" because it's short, sweet, and vocally different, "Future Breed Machine" because it's a great example of their early work, and "Straws Pulled at Random" because it's on my favourite album, has the my fav solo ever, and is more on the melodic side. Cheers
Gorguts reaction!!
Highly recommend ”clockworks” or ”Soul Burn” by Meshuggah. Clockworks is insanely complicated and very hard whilst Soul Burn is a more jazzy metal with some experimental touches. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Damn bro...you definitely should react to Crystal Lake . Hail to the fire and Sanctuary
PLEASE REACT TO MIND"S MIRRORS/IN DEATH IS LIFE/IN DEATH IS DEATH
I saw them live at vicar street back in 2017 . Fucking brutal
Do not look down - meshuggah
Btw I love how you can headbang 3 different ways to this song
Slaughter to Prevail- Agony. It sounds brutal by the name, and it is sound wise but the lyrics are about the "agony" you go through at first to be able to succeed (i think), so its got a good message. Its heavy but definitely has groove but if its too heavy, youll atleast know your current limit. Its heavy but not above and beyond
for some of that groovy metal you need to checkout "dancers to a distordant system" the live video
Meshuggah - Dancers To A Discordant System. You will be blown away
Dude. As last time. All Catch 33!!!!
watch the drummer playing clockworks, fkng beast
Clockworks is insane! Rational gaze is good for beginners
While on your prog journey I'd recommend Cog - Anarchy OK (an Aussie band).
Or can't go wrong with some Mastodon.
Clockworks drumcam is life.
The grooviest groove that ever did groove.
