Happy Friday people🙌🏻
Bet you lot weren’t expecting this one, aye? Make sure to follow on twitch! Twitch.Tv/drewf28 🥰
15:31 - Tool allowed Meshuggah to open for them in the U.S just so that Danny can see up close HOW he does his drumming to learn! Not kidding! Even Danny is still learning! As are we all, life is always a learning journey no matter how old you are...
please react to Vektor - "Recharging the Void"
u wont regret!
Hi Drew, awesome reactions... no one reacting to early Meshuggah, something off 'Destroy, Erase, Improve' ... arguably their best, and groove heavy riffs
7:30
@@Defensive_Wounds that’s how my Uncle saw them. Said Tool sucked compared to Meshugah, in a band for 20 years prior and another 20 years. He said Meshugah the best band he had ever seen. With the amount of songs and no lights for the 90’s they truly are the best live.
"HE DID I" !? I stood up and screamed it. You're a trooper for this one !
🤣🤣❤️
I imagine if Rick Beato did a "What makes this song great" for _I_ it would be like 2 hours long.
Lmao
Actually, Rick should totally do this :D
Bro I is I’m some instances, all be it from what I can tell 😂, completely randomized. 2 hours may be an understatement. I is a masterpiece. And in my Opinion super under appreciated. Cuz everybody chooses bleed. Bleed is performed by meshuggah every time they play live. I has to this day never been performed, and in Thomas’s words “probably never will”
In some instances* my bad
I would watch that in a heartbeat.
A track so godlike even Meshuggah won't play it live.
No one knows how I goes 😂
@@devendasmusic not even Fredrik or Mårten lmao
I have been trying for over a DECADE to get ANYONE on UA-cam to react to 'I' ..........THANK YOU Drew to beat ALL of them to it!
Hahahaha made my day seeing this. Thank YOU brotha!
Juniio did it also, 2 years ago :) ua-cam.com/video/DsuWQ5OqXEk/v-deo.html
@@dcko1979 I have never heard of the channel before so this is news to me.
Been waiting for it myself.favorite song to blast in my car
The fact no one but drew would do says something about the others
That last guttural "IIIII!!!" Some of Jens finest vocal work..
"Don't trust this break" Lol!
New Millenium Cyanide Christ
Ya, it's a good one
YES only logical follow up to this behemoth of a track
And then the whole of Catch 33
If you're looking to do more meshuggah you should definitely react to Straws Pulled At Random
Absolutely needs to hear this one
One of my faves
Yes
It has one of their prettiest solos for sure
@@kanametousinabasi agreed!
You're a true legend for reacting to this godly track. Id love to see a live stream or super long reaction to their album Catch-33 from cover to cover. Its like an hour long Meshuggah song split into sections that all build off each other.
like Mozarts variations on a theme.
They took a break during Catch 33 to record I.
@@andeesrecordcollectionoilp2757 Did not know that !
Catch 33 was supposed to be a full length album but then decided to just make it one big song. And "I" was just an single track they released during the recording sessions off catch 33.
Nothing and Catch 33 are still my favourites but I love all their work. If you like Meshuggah, you love Meshuggah, and I don't even get into metal much at all. I am impressed by a lot of metal but it doesn't hold my attention like Meshuggah. There's metal and then there's Meshuggah, they are their own genre!
This groove is so gnarly 13:38
Interestingly, this groove is one of the straightest grooves, pretty much 4 to the floor. After all the chaos, and only in contrast to it, does it's simplicity give it such heaviness while also being a breath of fresh air. The only Meshuggah-esque irregularity they give it is that crash cymbal part it starts out with is repeated 2 times at the start, then repeated 4, 2, 2, and then 4 times again before the part ends. Quite remarkable, for a band like Meshuaggah :)
This is THE masterpiece of Meshuggah. I am so happy reacted to this because very few have.
Song suggestions:
Pravus (Alive DVD)
New Millenium Cyanide Christ (live from Montreal)
Future Breed Machine
Humiliative (live from Montreal)
By The Ton
Suffer In Truth
Have to 1000% agree with you- this to me has everything and then some to what truly make this band stand alone in the genre.
Agree
Anyone can react to Bleed or Jinjer's Pisces, but you sir are a legend for voluntarily diving into a 21 minute Djent pummelling. That takes reaction chops and you have my respect.
Also want to recommend Fredrik Thordendal's Special Defects - Sol Niger Within. Extremely experimental 43 min track. It's absolutely mind-blowing.
Missing Time is epic
@@garytackett8426 IIRC Missing time isn't part of that album. Its from the remix album 3.33. I don't like that one because it cuts out some of my favorite parts like the 2nd organ solo.
@@Potacintvervs i personally dont like the organ parts, i think they drag on too long and mess up the experience of the album
Its like as if frederik arived from the ship of the clouse encounters of the third kind played the song and left lol
About the growling Drew, I've noticed that you've started to cross the line between the somewhat accessible and the less accessible genres of Metal so the growling should grow on you gradually, maybe even try to revisit a couple of the older bands that you've checked out and you'd probably be surprised by how much more the music will make sense with your current knowledge and experience.
Thats a good point, mate. When I was younger, I couldnt fully get onboard with bands like say,Pantera or Sepultura cos of the vocals. I know theyre not "growling" as such, but compared to what my music revolved around at the time (grunge), the more harsher vocals didnt click. The only metal I loved as a teenager was Metallica cos Ioved Papa Het's voice aswell. Anyhoo, you are right: Over time with heavier music, the music won me over and over, leading to a gradual accomodation of the vocals. Then, bands I werent all there for at the time suddenly sounded new and great to me. Its funny how you get "used" to the harsher vocals and they become part of the song like an instrument of its own.
@@kylereece1979 Sounds like my experience as well, I'd constantly find myself liking bands that I had previously discarded so I kept going through the genres in a similar fashion and so my tastes and preferences evolved gradually. I wouldn't like have of the bands I'm currently into when I was first starting out.
@@Gravityys And I love when that happens. You rediscover a band that, just didnt connect with you at the time,be it the vocals or sometin' like that. It totally feels relevant and right suddenly, as though it was there all along. I loved something like say "Master of Puppets" in the mid90s, and my more metal themed friends were comically baffled that I couldnt get into Pantera or Machine Head in the same manner. But again, some time later, they reconnected the right way with me. And as you said , you find yerself going back and finding those other bands that missed the connection at the time, and it sounds good and proper.👍👍
Words cannot describe the strength of the smile on my face when I saw the title of this reaction
😭🙌🏻
"This is what insanity feels like" Very well said lol
Meshuggah - Perpetual Black Second, Nebulous
Thomas Haake is a beast.
It's time for the next aspect of Meshuggah. Their fucking awesome light shows live! Do born in dissonance live in Belgium.
Yes do this!!
Animals as Leaders - "CAFO". It sounds like a series of colorful kaleidoscopic explosions in a guitar factory. Flutters of furiously melodic licks lacerate the senses and then a barrage of djenty riffs not so gently fall from the sky like ten ton hammers. Then a sublime clean tone passage gleams into view like a sunrise over the horizon, before another barrage of melodic madness marches on down. Yer man on guitar, Tosin Abasi has been making huge waves on youtube over the last few years with his insane skills and CAFO is an exciting action packed piece that brotha, I think youd enjoy!
I second this! Animals as Leaders is incredible. Tosin Abasi is the truth!
Beautifully put.
Haha I came back to this comment after he did the CAFO reaction. Other than just beautifully describing the essence of the song, I'd also say, fucking A++ in English!
Man I gotta say, CAFO is a hard pill to swallow
Anything off Parrhesia is sure to satisfy though!
Future breed machine live has some of the craziest fucking lights on the breakdown and the song itself is a Meshuggah classic. Its the kind of song that makes you realize that Meshuggah is probably the one band that can give you a seizure live even if you aren't an epileptic.
Video didn’t even start yet and I punched the like button.
My man❤️
I will never get tired of Haake HAMMERING that snare pattern for like 2 minutes straight 3:53 ❤️ 7:38 he’s an absolute machine. I HAVE to see these guys live and mosh it out!
I've saw in one of their videos, Jens and Thomas view Jen's place as a member of the percussion and they compose songs around that feeling. I feel it's the reason Jens harsh vocals fit so well with their sound. I always crave clean vocals, but I couldn't image a place for it in Meshuggah. Jens delivers a specific role to perfection.
first time I saw someone reacting to this song by Meshuggah, Tomas Haake once said that they cant play this song live because if they do, they will be exhausted for the rest of the night, now you definitely can see why lol
Not true at all. Haake said that they don’t play it because no one knows how it goes lol
@@coolkille420 I think I got confused with the song War, because he said something like that one day
@@TVQuimérico oh, that certainly makes sense
I think you mean Demons Name is Surveillance
@@coolkille420 equally as funny...
meshuggah catch 33
meshuggah the hurt that finds you first
When Haake was asked if they would play I live, he said probably not cause:
" No one knows How I goes "
It's because the song was improvised (mostly) in studio. Not all at once of course but bit by bit, rather than being written like a normal song. A perfect example of songwriting like this is Andrew Huang and Rob Scallon's First of October stuff.
Straws Pulled At Random please!
Glad you came back to Meshuggah, amazing band.
This track ends so peacefully, it's one of my favorites.
There’s heaps of people who don’t listen to metal but they listen to meshuggah :)
You need to listen to some stuff from their Nothing album, that was peak Meshuggah. Rational Gaze, Perpetual Black Second, Closed Eye Visuals and Straws Pulled At Random are all must listen songs.
Where is Spasm? That's like their lowest tuning yet. Hits like a train explosion with 420 oil cars attached to it.

Meshuggah are the pinnacle of metal and once u get hooked theres no way back. After that nothing can compare. You really should start doing alot of them. They are to metal what tool are to rock:) i HIGHLY recommend dancers to a discordant system.

@@SelcraigClimbs yea :) we never have enough Meshuggah!
@@KORNBG truth!!!!
This is why i listen to Meshuggah, you need to hear many songs but when you realize that you can groove with this is insane (i'm talkin about polyrhythms)
Rational Gaze and Dancers to a discordant system are must!!!
Wow, out of all the Meshuggah songs for you to react to I was not expecting this one. There used to just be one other guy who uploaded a reaction to it.
Transfixion is definitely one of many amazing songs from their early discography. Such a revolutionary band. Rock on 🤘
The other day I discovered this track and downloaded it, totally a badass experience. Anytime I’m driving somewhere now and I know it’s only 20 mins I default to this song!
I didn't see it skimming the comments so if you didn't know this yet here's a little knowledge for yah. Tomas helped make a drum plugin called Drum Kit From Hell. All the drum sounds are him on his kit. I KNOW they used it for all the drums on the Catch 33 album (probably my favorite) and I believe they used it for this as well. This came out before Catch 33 so I think it was the first use of it. So while Tomas is a monster on the kit that I love as a fellow drummer... he wasn't physically playing this monster of a song.
The first 4 tracks on the album catch 33 are basically one track. That’d be a neat reaction.
The entire album is one song
Ty Wurth Not really. It’s flows really nice like dark side of the moon but there’s definitely separate songs. The whole album isn’t parabol/parabola transitions though.
@@Henrydingus01123 yes, it is split into several different songs but if you isolate them, they don't really work as standalone tracks. It's a single continuous suite and must be listened to as one piece of music to get the full context.
Shit, while you're at it..
• Edge of Sanity - Crimson (40 min song)
• Gorguts - Pleiades' Dust (33 min song about the House of Wisdom, inspired by Meshuggah's I, Deathspell Omega's Chaining the Katechon and Porcupine Tree's The Incident to name a few)
• Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Gray (54 min song)
• Deathspell Omega - Chaining the Katechon (22 min song)
• Opeth - Black Rose Immortal (20 min song)
• Meshuggah - Catch Thirtythree (47 min album that all goes together as one song)
• Porcupine Tree - The Incident (55 min song)
Fun fact one of the beginning riffs of the song is actually in modern warfare (the newer one) when you get a juggernaut
Amon Amarth - War of the Gods
Amon Amarth - Free Will Sacrifice
Amon Amarth - Valhall Awaits Me
holly crap, never tought i would ever hear this one on yt, legend says that they never play this live because it was mostly improv and none of them remember it anymore xD
Also, why do you have a Sao paulo tee? lol
"No one knows how I goes." - Tomas Haake

I can't believe you did it! You made me so happy haha! "No one knows how I goes" - Tomas Haake
"I" ranks among their best material. You're the man for doing this one!
STRAP IN BOYS
edit: glad you liked it and you like meshuggah so far! My next recommendations for them would be ObZen, The Demon's Name is Surveillance, or Demiurge
Meshuggah Electric Red! The breakdown is exactly what you're looking for.... ObZen is a great track as well!
How about Future Breed Machine. Great song and i saw my bud Ekon requesting one of the greatest song from Meshuggah ( my opinion) Straws Pulled At Random
@Ekon Sorry to call you my bud
YES! Hardly anyone has done full reactions to this monster. Also typing this before watching, but I can't wait!
*Edit after watching* - We were all collectively headbanging with you at 13:38, trust me. My recommendation for more Meshuggah is Catch Thirtythree, hands down. It's twice as long as "I", but if you marathon the entire album (as it's kind of one long song the same way I is,) the breakdown near the end of the album is the most devastating thing the human race has ever witnessed. It doesn't have the same effect if you just jump to that part by itself, but it's a very interesting listen. As a whole, it's not quite as intense or complicated as I, but it's a bit more focused on groove. Either way, hope to see this one eventually!
Sick!!!!!!
Meshuggah - Straws Pulled at Random
Haken - The Architect
Leprous - Rewind
Great taste btw
dude this is my fav Meshuggah song and I fucking love it more than anything
fucking HATS OFF for doing this monster. this is the personification of insanity. haake wasn't on this one, but he programmed all the drums
More Meshuggah! New Millennium Cyanide Christ, corridor of chameleons, rational gaze, perpetual black second, spasm, closed eye visuals, dancers to a discordant system. Just to name a few.
should totally check out Vildhjarta - lots of Meshuggah influence but they expand on the djenty sounds in an incredibly unique, eerie atmospheric direction. 'Dagger' is the classic but their most recent one 'Den Helige Anden' is stunning. And their epic long songs like 'All These Feelings', 'Traces' and 'The Lone Deranger' are great demonstrations of their range and creativity as songwriters
Can you imagine working out on the heavy bag while listening to Meshuggah? What if Meshuggah were a boxer instead of a band? Stamina. Power. Speed. And, wait for it... footwork ! They would be a champion for sure.
I needed this! I wanted this! 🤘

Never expected to see a reaction to this lol. Legendary stuff man
Man, the timing of this video is perfect. I just discovered this track a few days ago and I’ve just been hypnotized by it. I went to look for a reaction video and there you were. Had to click on that shit real fast, since I loved watching your TOOL reactions back in the day.

Yes! Haven’t seen anyone react to this song. Respect! 🤘🏻 I remember when I heard this song for the first time...just sat with my mouth open for 21 minutes and my brain went on vacation! 😅 What’s amazing with Meshuggah is that they are even better live. Oh shit. You reacted to I!? Legend
You did go straight off the deep end with Meshuggah. Proud of you for keeping with them.
My 2 cents as far as underrated tracks go: Beneath and This Spiteful Snake
Fave album is Catch 33 ^-^
I'm late, but I'm here - keep up the march!
Some of the early stuff like, Humiliative, Gods of rapture from none ep. Or from Destroy erase improve, Future breed machine, Terminal illusions
The cool clean tone part just after the 18min mark here reminded me a lil' bit of Pantera's "This Love". Never heard this track before. I knew about it, but never got round to hearing it till now. Cool stuff, mo chara.
Been listening to this band for over a decade now and I still have no idea what the hell they’re doing timing wise over half the time. I swear I still just guess whatever time signature to bang my head in and it fits with almost every song they write because they are literal walking metronomes. Especially Tomas Haake hahaha
Nice one, "I" warned you 8 months ago for the drop @ 13:39 on the first time hearing bleed video :)
holy fucking shit i will never be the same after hearing this
Looks like you had some of that spice melange before embarking on this journey, your eyes are remarkably blue today: Dune reference ;) Great reaction, keep it out and have a great day.
Love your content man. I'm not sure if you've done much black metal but would love to see you delve into it a bit.
Maybe start with something off Darkthrone's Old star.
Fellow irish man here. Keep up the good work!
I’m far too busy with the devils lettuce to deal with you being an inch from your mic when my volume was far too loud... it’s 2:30 am and I’m sat in my kitchen so it’s not the best place to die of a heart attack 👍🏻😂 great video bro, enjoying the content, hope you’re well dude 👊🏻

Fantastic reaction Drew. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dancers to a Discordant System is one of the best tracks in the entire genre of metal in my opinion. The best end song to an album ever, completely summing up the theme of the whole concept. I'd love to see you do this one dude!
Such a crazy song it takes a few listens for sure to wrap your head around what’s happening how it goes thanks for reacting to this next one you should do is their new one broken cog and the video is hypnotic very well done make sure to listen to it on full blast.🤟

you stepped in a good path of meshuggah but keep going brother. They will have a new album out next year or early 2022. Hopefully hit Electric wizard dopethrone album is another level I hope you reach
Hell Yes! That song is just sooo awesome! Great to see you reacting to it!
If you want to venture in some Metal-Genres you haven't explored much so far, check out Mizmor - Cairn to God or Unabating Wakefulness. Would love to see a reaction to that!
You should check out Ministry if you are enjoying industrial stuff! They were big in the 80s and 90s and known as being pretty much the inventors of industrial metal. I would recommend starting with Just One Fix
One of my favorite Meshuggah songs! I definitely recommend the album Catch 33 if you want something long lol. I think you might also like By the Ton, Violent Sleep of Reason, or Ivory Tower those are all amazing tracks that I don't see recommended enough
