This will always be one of the biggest death metal mysteries for me. I'm 40 and having been listening to death metal since 14 or 15. No one ever talked about these guys. They' re still rarely included in death metal tribute articles. This album, in specific, is in my personal top 5 death metal albums of all time. You can clearly hear a shitload of bands that have been seriously influenced by this. There are at least 3-4 riffs picked up by Cannibal Corpse for Tomb and Bleeding. "Tantalus" sounds like what Tomas from At the Gates was trying to achieve in many tracks back in the day. The list goes one... As I said, a big mystery, man. I still blast this shit quite often. A truly relentless death metal record, great riffs and no fucks given.
It's more mentioned in thrash circles as a cult classic, since it's often considered "death-thrash" because of it's inclusion of both genres, but thrash typically making up more of the riffs, beats, and song structure. Lot's of death-thrash bands are not very well known because of their proximity to the decline of thrash and the rise of death metal (early - mid 90's). To someone unconcerned with subgenres, this can definitely sound like death metal, given how much more extreme it is to standard thrash metal and it's very harsh, deep vocals.
let’s say this is 60% death 40% thrash how bout that haha
Поддержалл, братан! Мне 48 лет, и далеком 98 мне записали на кассету всего 3 песни. Я их загонял до дыр!.. Однозначно, MUST HAVE! 🤘
Protector and Messiah from Switzerland.
Also Death and Possessed among other early death metal bands were full of thrash riffs but for some reason they are considered just death metal and not death-thrash.
Music..The reason to live🤟
... 🤘 🇩🇪
And liquor
Yes, absolutely is the reason to live!!!! It got me through long prison time, long live metal 🤟
the reason for shedding of skin
Saw them in a tiny room in Eupen, Belgium, opening for Assassin. It was their first show, we were in 1987. They killed everything... Long life to us, fellow metalheads 🤘
I've been listening to metal for a long time. How the fuck did I miss this masterpiece?
It is not your fault, buddy... Also I am and old Thrash Metal fan, but really this is unbelievable, this forgotten gem that never gets the due welcomed.
Kinda the same, I started listening to metal in the late 80s including tons of obscure and extreme bands, but I was very late to the game with this album. I didnt find it until like 15 years ago. It would've definitely been right up my alley in '91.

... PROTECTOR 🇩🇪 from Germany ... 🤘 🇩🇪
???
Great vocals and crazy production for ‘91.
... 🤘 🇩🇪
not really, 1991 was the pinnacle of death metal acts
This album is an unheralded masterpiece and Protector deserve more reknown in extreme metal circles. They’re every bit as good as their more well known German thrash & death peers.
Another classic from 1991....somehow I missed these guys back in those days, but I got to discover them now and feel like a 17 year old again.
I love 90's metal sounds
Everything now sounds cookie cutter and/or overly technical.
@Masked Lamb I'm thankful that this is the era of metal i was shown.
No trigger. Real sound
This sounds more like mid-to-late 80's thrash metal.
@Masked Lamb fuck ye
This band rules, it's great I love it
... 🤘 🇩🇪
Still got this cd from 91 and still by far my favorite Death thrash album of all time. Sick ass killer riffs. Sick everything lol. Awesome transitions as well

Hands down their best album. Fast thrash. Brutal.

But vocals death 😒
Protector is an amazing hybrid between thrash and death
One of the few metal albums released locally in the Philippines. I'm lucky growing up listening to this stuff. My favorite Thrash Death Metal album.

@@pinoyako4347 I was as a small kid from Croatia exactly on Philippines and Thailand introduced to metal music, i was 10 in 1991 and was with my father the whole summer on his ship( i mean , not his but he was the captain) of big ship and we were travelling and unloading cargo from France, Italy, Egypt, Mozambique, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, China...Pinoys are great sailors , they work veey hard as sailors on the ships but there are now many captains and officers Pinoys, not just sailors
Heaviness, brutality, speed, killer riffs and even the Bass is pretty good... pretty much everything you'd want from a Death/Thrash album, good stuff! Protector is kinda underrated.

Sick record...Massive sound.

Great influential death metal record from the early 90's. I was very fortunate to see them live during the tour right after this album was released. The concert was a blast, I still remember to this day. I was 16 then, and I was totally devastated. Sorry to see that the band remained underrated and this great metal masterpiece album is not on Spotify.
Best death metal album of a german band at the time. Unfortunately, this passed under the radar.
What sound,what years ,what time,ooohhh i love this years,briliant band 🤘
33 years after and stiil one of the best Death metal albums that i listened, awesome at the beggining to the end, Protector was a great band 🤘🏼

Ive been listening to metal for over 20 years and I still keep finding amazing bands. The list is never ending.
Wow.....Killer Album. I love the Spirit from the 90s. Sound have Mixture-Parts from old Cannibal Corpse and old Sepultura. Style of play is like Sepultura Arise Era. Great Album....thanks for Upload.

Insane album, crazy how shit like this still holds up years, and years, and years later. One of my favorites now.
The sheer force and mass with which the "Tantalus" track hits you is something no other death metal band has ever achieved for me... Absolute classic, the ABC of death metal!
sounds a lot like Horrorscope. The strength in this album seems to come mostly from the fusion thrash/death tracks imo
Their best album in my opinion. Love it. So brutal and meaty.....thanks for the upload 🤘🤘
agree
... 🤘 🇩🇪
One of the most brutal Death/Thrash albums in it's time! Still gives me the chills, after 40 years! What a banger🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
O universo do rock e infinito quanto mais eu velho 60 e ainda to descobrindo coisas espetaculares
Face Fear is my favorite death thrash metal song ever. Its perfect
Its beyond me. How did I never hear of this??? I've been a metalhead for 4 decades. This was released in the 90s? Must be one of those "Europe Only" bands. I dont blame hard core for avoiding the U.S.A. while on tour but it sure sucks for us in the U.S.
I've been listening to metal, and specifically death and black metal for over 25 years. Same boat. Never heard this til recently.
Relentless from start to finish. Had the pleasure and the priviledge to own it upon release back in 1991. Among the best and the most brutal death/thrash classics. Great clystar clear production as well, which increases the value and the quality of the material. Excellent, headbanging worthy material.

I grew up in the eighties and nineties my friend and this is one band that is very underrated and you don't hear much about!
I never heard of this band before although I grew up on 90`s Derath Metal \m/ awesome 1991 forever!
Underrated. These guys deserves more credit!!
Don't recall if I ever heard this release back in those days, but this definitely blows away 92% of stuff from those days! Whom Gods Destroy, Necropolis, Tantalus? How could a genre fan not love this shit? Glad I found it. Thanks, Metal Supplier!
thanks for uploading this gem
Damn, it sounds absolutely fucking beautiful!
slow intro with birds chirping... ITS A TRAP!! LOL🔥 💀🔥
I sill got on original cassette ,everlasting metal classic.
Necropolis is absolutely amazing! Feels like I’m entering hell! Fucking amazing!!!

Great album. These guys deserve more recognition.
Incredible production! So many greats from this Era! From this country! Cheers 🍻 🇩🇪
Protector at their greatest👍
This sounds like a mix of Obituary, Kreator and Celtic Frost with chaotic Slayer-esque guitar solos - pretty cool.
The Death Metal decade🤘🤘🤘
Yep, I'd say for black metal as well
@@vratyasvakyas6022 Even Thrash Metal peaked in the early 90s imo.
@Thrashing Hentai No, not in the early 90s.
@@Dexusaz 86-88 was thrash’s prime
Found this album 10 years ago. Can’t believe how long it took for suck a great band/ album to come into my awareness. Easily one of the most CRIMINALLY underrated bands.
I wish this was on spotify 🤘
Obituary and Kreator 90
another never heard before band and good one
wow, I'm surprise that I had never head of this album, neither the band, till now. I just loved the starting riff of "a shedding of skin" title. Pretty cool stuff
Just discovered this and I'm glad I did. Absolutely rips

Criminally underrated. Especially nowadays
31:23 is so fucking great old Sepultura Stuff.
Holy shit, their first two albums I thought were good enough listens but this is something else. Huge improvement, from a production and brutality standpoint 🤘
Masterpiece
I was only 17 years old when this great album was released ! Great album !
i was not even born.
Same age,but i listen to them since 15.Golem and Urm the mad were my albums. When they played in my hometown in 1990 with KREATOR,i dare to say they were better.Shame, that i am 40 kg bigger to wear my PROTECTOR t-shirt,like in those years, but i still have it.
Fantastic Stuff!

This is sick af! 🤘
one of the best thrash death stuff from europe
when i was learning to play guitar, my teacher used to pass me a dozen of band names for me to check out. thrash metal bands. i went into destruction, razor, sodom, nuclear assault, etc. i couldn't check out everyone, no wonder i got saturated with thrash metal after some years. almost 15 years after that, i remembered the name "protector" and decided to check out. pretty dope album. sounds pretty good.
I'm biaised because I discovered this band when The Heritage came out so it's my favorite, but this one is objectivly their best
El mejor disco de la historia 🤘🤘🤘
Some sick movements in this album!
My god, I had never heard this one before!! Thank you so much, it's easily a 9/10... Amazing!!

Very good Album. Stay brutal. Thx from Germany 🇩🇪

And another for me underground band of the past I did not know well. And there are countless old and more recent. Only now it is just one click to discover bands. When i was a kid it was only about reading fanzines or music magazines and hang out in vinyl shops and meet other people.
I just came across this today, im fking loving it.. \,,/
ENERGÍA PURA.
Ничо так. Брутальненько.
Sound a little like morbid Ángel but clear production and more thrash, loved it
My favorite
I'm blown away that I've never heard about this band, until a channel I watch was playing it in the background (Eric Bauer's channel btw). Me and my girlfriend both perked up and were wondering how the hell we've never heard of this band or album. I'm 42 and have been a metalhead for going on 30 years. Weird but awesome.
i wondered the same thing......how could i miss this thrash masterpiece....
Yesss....Dudes youre damn right. Im 36 Years old. Listening to Thrash/Death/Black Metal since i was 10 Years old. I've never heard this Genius Underrated Band before. Entombed brought me here 🤘🏻💀
@@martinzehnel8535 That's awesome. I feel like this band should be way more well known!
@@nintenjoel yes. You're fuckin right
I bought a lot of metal magazines at the time, and this album wasn't reviewed, nor the band was interviewed. "Golem" was better promoted, I guess. It's a pity, this is probably the best german death metal album of that year, better than Morgoth. Being on Atom H instead of Noise or Century media was an handicap.
The unspoken rule of metal: if an album has an acoustic/ambience intro, the rest of the music is going to hit like a truck.
haven't heard this since the 2000s dang
Wouldn't be a demo or first album without a quiet building up intro that I always skip.
Best
So refreshing
Great Álbum 🤘
