- Band: Monstrosity
Album: Imperial Doom
Year: 1992
Country: United States
Debut release by old school death metal masters Monstrosity featuring George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher of Cannibal Corpse fame! I prefer this over Cannibal Corpse any day, personally. This is a great album that one day will hopefully be reissued!
Track Listing:
Imperial Doom 00:00
Definitive Inquisition 04:10
Ceremonial Void 08:20
Immense Malignancy 12:19
Vicious Mental Thirst 16:00
Burden of Evil 20:15
Horror Infinity 23:40
Final Cremation 28:35
Darkest Dream 31:58
So organic and natural sounding. The way its supposed to be. There are operating rooms now less sterile than extreme metal production jobs now. This is perfect.
The best years of death metal were 1990-1992. Back in those days, you could go to the record store, pick up an album of a band you never heard of displaying cool grotesque artwork on the cover, take it home, and have ear orgasms every time.
That is EXACTLY how it went down. Dismember, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death, Pestilence, all blind buys, all awesome.
1989 was the best year for death metal
1993 was a great year too
I knew monstruosity and incantation in final of nineties they played concerts in bogota
Go listen to guts, the album ´ decay ´ ;)
I don't know what it is, maybe I'm crazy. The older I get the more I appreciate this early raw more natural tone of deathmetal, and the less I appreciate the quantized, sampled, squeaky clean production of modern death metal and tech death.
Master Hand Yeah same here
I honestly own maybe 5-10 albums that came out after '95. Stubborn old school fucker all the way. Ahahahaha.
man, you are not crazy!
I feel you, my taste keeps getting older and I love it
it's way more 'tech' than 'tech-death'. because it's actually been played the way you hear it. not quantized, triggered, sped up to double tempo, cropped together with MIDI samples etc...
I will have the pleasure, on my 48th birthday, to see monstrosity play the classic Imperial Doom in its entirety
33:33 and the basssist suddenly has an unexpected LSD backflash...
Master!!!!

Gracias . Desde COPIAPO CHILE. KMOT
Jim Morris seems to have a better handle on the sound of death metal then i presume was really being discovered unitil years after we seen the scene as a whole change scapes & faces some as it did.

This album, like many other early-90s death metal, strikes the perfect balance between brutality and grooviness.
thats the one thing all the music I like has to have is grooviness .
It was the best era of death, nothing else compares. I personally i don't like the newer goregrind and tech death stuff.
It's all about the change-ups. Late 80's, Early 90's Death Metal had it all.
This is an unquestionable classic of the genre. This deserves to be re-released in all of its glory. I remember listening to this cassette non stop when it came out...and getting lost in the cover during an LSD trip...lol.
I would pay a stupid amount of money for this on cassette
Sounds accurate of the times!!! LSD was all over back then!
LSD trip man that sounds good 😊
Oh man! You and me both
holy shit Corpsegrinder was thin in his monstrosity days, before the effects of Wow set in.
Lmao
Hahahhahha
LOL!!!
no, it was before he started to consume multiple corpses everyday for breakfast, lunch, and din BUD
@@speedhead WHILE playing WoW
How has this not been reissued, this is a banger, the driving riffs and the vocals are insane
Corpsegrinder's best album.
Millennium is better
No,is"the wretched spawn"
Both albums are in top 10 of all time (maybe top 5)
please tell me thats a joke
Henry Wunderlich My comment or Pygmalion? Which is best Corpsegrinder album and what is your top 5 or 10?
twingy bass guitar go prrrrr
Me gusta mucho esta música romántica....es super relajante y te inspira valores positivos de aprecio a la vida.
Untouchable savagery. Fierce attacks and great riffs.
I met a fellow death metal lover on my college campus today (a rarity where I live.) He noticed I had a Butchered at Birth shirt on, so we started discussing Cannibal Corpse. He brought up Monstrosity, and since I'm not a huge fan of Corpsegrinder, I'd never listened to them before.
Holy fuck, am I glad I decided to give them a listen. This is so much better than anything that Corpsegrinder's done with Cannibal Corpse.
Like they say better "kill it" while you're young!
Check out the new album!
I agree, this is much better than anything by Cannibal Corpse...and I love them too.
Corpsegrinder is a great vocalist. He killed it on live cannibalism. Particularly on I cum blood. The songs are so much heavier live, versus the studio versions.
The reason Cannibal albums weren’t as brutal after Barnes, was because Scott Burns stopped producing the albums. They were never ever heavier than early albums. Scott did produce Vile, which is a superb Cannibal album, but the production is garbage.
This is a solid album, comparing it to Vile or Bloodthirst, you must be joking.
@@SeekingRedemption227 I agree with the mans sentiment. Hate how George sounded on every CC record. Barnes era only for me. BUT LOVE this record.
Holy shit. George's vocals are fucking amazing
Dan Seagrave kills it again.
Ten commandments cover too
Ah, the early 90s....what an amazing fucking time for death metal
RIGHT! I am actually depressed that its over.
yep, the best time for death metal.
It sure was an amazing time.
back when it still sounded scary and unhinged
One of the alltime greatest underrated Tampa Bay death metal albums ..
This is a must have in any death metal collection. Corpsegrinders voice is a little more gutteral on this album compared to his Cannibal Corpse performances. I remember how stoked I was when he joined Cannibal and it was because of this album.
You must have been disappointed, he sucks now
Imperial Doom 00:00

Thanks! You are so Epic
THX I GOT THIS MASTERPIECE!! ONE OF THE BESTE OLDSCHOLL DEATH METAL!!
This is my favorite death metal album ever. It tops very closely Left Hand Path and Altars of Madness.
It's just god damn perfect from the beginning til the very end. Absolutely perfect crystal atemporal madness.
Check out Protector A shedding of skin
Left hand is so overrated imo
George Fisher vocal is sick and very powerful in this album concept...awesome !!!
Better than on Cannibal Corpse.
@@joaopaulovieirabatera5853Yeah, honestly.
Having both Lee Harrison and Jon Rubin in the same band is a wicked deadly combination. I met Lee years ago as I would call him often on a landline phone. Met him in person just over a year ago. I wonder where Jon is today? He is a ripping fast cat fight guitar player.
The cover art is great. Also, Final Cremation - 🤘
Only found out today that Jason Gobel from Cynic played guitar on this album. I heard he contributed a few riffs too, pretty positive the solo's he plays on this are his own too as it sounds like his style of playing.
12:30 one of the most haunting solos of all time.. it gives me chills every time
Jason Gobel was really good at that
The one you linked as well as his lead in the title track, Definitive Inquisition, and Cruel Gentility, Pleading for Preservation, I'm But a Wave to... and How Could I? all immediately come to mind haha
Yes!
This is the best thing Corpsegrinder has ever done. And this drummer is fantastic. Underappreciated gem from FL
I'm sorry to everyone who has a different opinion, but this is the ultimate death metal album.. The technicality, the brutality, the corpse grinder screams, heck.. even the cover. This album is what everyone should aspire to copy. I heard this first back when it was just released and it keeps blowing my mind every single time.
It's a lot like Morbid Angel's altars.
It's a good album, but it's a blatant copy of Morbid Angel, with some Deicide riffs here and there.
WTF are you talking dude?! There is nothing comparable to Altars here. Imperial is full of technical and thrash riffs, unlikely Altars. This sounds like copy of Altars as much as copy of the Number of the Beast or Master of Puppets. Don't make ridiculous comments if you don't understand riffs
It's like Demo Hammer's Epidemic of Violence fucking with Deicide's Legion. Perfect.
G. Boychev deste metal na veia Caralho e Danilo e ruivo
Yes, exactly
Those short bursts of blastbeat make Monstrosity unique. Great album to say the very least.
when i first saw this album cover the first thing that came to mind was the test subject pods in the mako reactor of Nibelheim in FF7.
#nerdalert hahahaahah!!
Perfect, insane masterpiece! A class of brutality and monstrosity!
I love the guitar work and tone
Old and true. Florida Death Metal.
grandmasters of Death Metal. This is classical excelent music from the streets, from the dark. It gives me pride of being human. It's been years since I love this disc and it never (NEVER) gets old. It's so absurd, it's so beyond music. Pure geniousity.
My memory back again in 90' era...Monstrosity how learn me playing Death Metal !!!
Really gr8 stuff. Corpsegrinder sounds great here.
Entre mis diez albunes favoritos de todos los tiempos. Hacía tiempo que no lo escuchaba y parece que aún suenan mejor. Grande Corpsegrinder, y los demás no le van a la zaga...
Discazo...

Great Album. They should have been bigger in the Death Metal scene.
imo in 5 or 10 of all time
Met Corpsegrinder at a party on Dean road by Orlando back in 91-92 seen him with Cannibal corpse 17 times since then
Was with Monstrosity then
Got this the day they released it at FlipSide -Clawson, MI.
Truly miss the 90's...
I absolutely love the drumming on this album some of the best I’ve ever heard
I'm discovering this band and loving it. Also, I just had the idea of doing a quick google search about the cover art and I was introduced me to the art of Dan Seagrave !!!! Holy SHIT!!!!!
Nice upload. I haven't heard this in decades.

Not only was Corpsegrinder on this album, but you have contributions from huge bands of metal in Malevolent Creation and Cynic
Suffocation too
@@ritualdeathmetal how could I forget?? Nice catch
Just discovered now, but it's absurd that the guy behind the vocals in this record is our beloved Corpse grinder when he was called only by George Fisher.
And i can say, his work here is insanely wildly mathaphuckingly awesome! 😎🤘
Incredible album. Love the atmospheric bloodcurdling screams that Corpsegrinder does in some of these songs
Thanks for sharing this great album!
These solo's are to die for.
Too bad none have done yet some decent repress of this masterpiece.
I Got the 90's vinil edition , 2 songs scrated but this álbum kick everyones ass 🤘🖤
Must be some kind of legal issues behind it. Also "Milennium" got issued only once in 2010 with only 400 copies..
One of Nuclear Blast's best-selling albums.
A true masterpiece ov classic Death Metal supremacy!!!\m/!!!...Thanx for da post!
Hails from The Bay Area ov California and UNNAMEABLE INTO AZOTH Zine!!!
awesome old classic. thanks for the upload!
You're welcome!
crushing song writing- really good cd
My god this brings back memories 18 yrs of age when this came out just graduated high school yeah I remember this album long ago in 1992 and throughout the 1990`s have not listen to this in a while!
This is the best death metal album from all the time!!! It has all what death metall need : Riffs,
Do you mean solos? Yes riffs are a killer part of good death metal, but good fast solos is what I look for personally.
one of my favorite albums, lost it years ago, thanks for the upload
Facepalm
Sinister - Hate
Monstrosity - Imperial Doom
- Millennium
Morbid Angek - Altars of Madnes

Haha! Hi Dana! (Justin Kelter)
Thanks for uploading this!
+EuphoriaMetal Hey Justin! Of course :D
thanks for the upload!!!
I'm here because I love George in cannibal corpse. And I'd like to know him in his early band. Always amazing brutal. Into the void I've already know since 90's because metal blade death is just the beginning 2 compilation. Thanks for posting. \m/ from São Paulo, Brazil.
19:16 and your mind seeps into the uncanny realm of the underworld... your spirit wanders ever on, journeying through quaint visions and contorted hallucinations forever more...
Thanks babe for this excellent album from the glory early 90's Old School Death Metal! I like so much "Corpsegrinder" voice, this music have guts! I'll buy it on vinyl.

3rd song kills it- whole lp consistent- wow the bass, drums , guitars, vox just awesome- reminds a little of Devastation (TX) signs of life
Lee is a monster on this album
Absolutely. Some of the best death metal drumming their is.
