  • The Quest 3 is a GREAT headset, there's little denying that! If you have one, and love it, this video may open your eyes to a whole new way to use it! If you don't have a Quest 3 (or a Quest 2, for that matter), this might help you decide whether you should get one! And, If you LOVE PC VR as much as I do, you may have something to say about what is discussed in this video! Tell me I'm wrong if you feel I'm wrong - comment on this video, and we'll "DUKE IT OUT" (in a positive way, of course)! PC VR is a fantastic way to experience virtual reality, but is it THE BEST? Can YOU do it? Can Meta and the Quest 2 and Quest 3 compete? Or, have they already won the battle? Help us all decide!

UEVR is definitely a game changer for VR in general. I can't imagine if someone was able to do this with Unity as well! 🤯
I do wish it worked on older titles (Bioshock 2 was the first title I tried until I found out it only works on UE4 and UE5), but you can't have everything! It's definitely going to be a breakout year for VR and I just hope UEVR works for Hellblade 2 when it comes out. The first one was one of the most emotionally powerful VR experiences I have ever had.

I know, right?! I went through my library most of the day yesterday, googling what games used what engines, and was bummed that BIOSHOCK was UE3... :( But, found some other nuggets, even FREE EPIC GAMES I've been collecting over the last couple years in case something like UEVR happened, and am ready to play some fun things. Playing through DELIVER US MARS right now, and enjoying it. And, I getting ready to be a SHARK in VR devouring people in MANEATER!!! Can't wait!

This is a very refreshing video. Thank you! All sorts of stuff happens in the VR industry if you follow it, and some of it has been very frustrating. There are certain UA-cam channels that seem bent on declaring PCVR dead or whatever (which is BS). But in your video, you're looking at the larger picture of how far all of it has actually come. And how great it all actually is. And I appreciate your reminder of that.
I have Quest 3 and also PCVR headsets. I enjoy Quest exclusives on the Quest 3, and I also use it when I travel. But otherwise I'm always using my PCVR headsets when I'm at home because they do PCVR better. Also do some PSVR2. But yeah, as someone who owns all of the above, I still spend most of my time in PCVR.

Thing is, I am 38 years old and I have been playing since Atari, since my first 486 pc, my first Pentium 100, my first Sega, Nintendo, Playstation, Xbox, and got into PC gaming. Yes, PC gaming will ALWAYS SURPASS any other device, and for the last 15 years I spent thousand of hours on Pc gaming, either playing GTA, Skyrim, Fallout, SimCity, or just oldies like Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, or competitive League of Legends, CS, Valorant, Apex, World of Tanks, etc. Sometimes I seat at my home for 14-18 hours straight, and I cancel my other outdoors activities because I am trapped at the “daily” events and tasks that most of games ask for. That is why for the past 3 years, I gave up and quit stationary gaming. Gaming that forces to go back home, to stay at my room on a pc or xbox or playstation, I migrate to MOBILE gaming. Iphone games. Where I can play anywhere, even when I am hiking for 3-5 days on the 10000 feet mountains in Taiwan. The mobile gaming is where I can live both my gaming passion without being restricted to stay at home. I could care less about the graphics, I can still play for hours Tetris. For me, is long gone the days where graphics were the only thing holding me to a pc. Being able to play anywhere anytime , for me is what matters. That is why I got the Quest 3.
PS: but yes ! I will try the UE injector mod to try my Steam games like Skyrim / Fallout 4 /76

A great post - thank you for sharing that, and with what you said - THE QUEST 3 will be great! Especially with games you can load on the headset and don't need internet for. Can play it literally anywhere. But be careful not to EVER let direct sunlight hit those lenses - it will destroy your headset screens! You probably already know that, but good to mention. Also, for SKYRIM and FALLOUT 4, if you don't mind spending about $15 or $20 a piece during a STEAM SALE, each of them have VR NATIVE versions available! No Mod needed. They are both AMAZING in PC VR - I've spent many an hour in Skyrim, and I always play standing, that way I don't feel so lazy. LOL.... and the motion controls - keeps you moving at least. Can't wait to hear what you think of SKYRIM VR!

Your enthusiasm is exactly what the industry needs now, excellent work, keep it up.
I am not usually one for taking sides but I believe that the naysayers that believed that VR was a fad are getting left in the dust, I too am a Pc-Vr enthusiast but do not have the most powerful system, even lower than you with a 2070-Super and still would not trade the experience for standalone, don’t get me wrong I too have tried the standalone games and I was very impressed with it, but Pc is, and will likely continue to be the best experience you can have, I have played Moss 2 on both standalone and Pc-Vr and guess who won, the fidelity on the Pc was day and night.
And don’t even get me started on the UEVR mod, I was playing Little nightmares 2 (LN-2) the other night in first person Vr (FP-Vr) and I was blown away, I cant hold in my excitement to see what others do with this mod, the sooner we have a profile repository set up the better, as not everybody will have the time to sink into sifting thru the plethora of settings in UEVR, For anybody interested in how to set up or to see LN-2 running in FP-Vr you can follow this link ua-cam.com/video/j1Mz1ae7X18/v-deo.html , FNH8iT likes to push the bounderies of whats possible here, cudos.
I Invision a day that during the development of games that Vr will be implemented as a mode, like hard mode or first to third person mode, that way all tastes will be catered for.
    Thanks for sharing your energy.

I love this comment so much - your enthusiasm and passion is apparent, and I appreciate your openness to look at all sides of the VR world. I'm there with you 100%. Even with not being able to have the "best" computer, PCVR is just magical. Even with the graphics not always being as sharp as we'd like them (especially with older graphics card and such), I'll always pick the immersion of VR over the better sharper graphics. And the graphics are only going to get better as more people create for VR. And I'm having a great time trying things out with the UEVR mod - currently playing through the DELIVER US MARS experience, and really loving it! The idea that development of games include VR as a MODE with almost every game - that would be a dream come true for sure, and I can see a world where that really does happen! Keep up the passion, and hope to run into you in VR some day!

People talk about Quest 3 "closing the gap" with PCVR, but it really isn't. PCVR capabilities are also advancing. So they're comparing Quest 3 against PCVR from like 7 years ago. And this gap will always be case. What we're really talking about is larger computing platforms with much higher TDP versus smaller mobile platforms with lower TDP. Mobile capabilities will always lag behind several years. The larger platform will always be more powerful at the same technology level.

I switched to the Quest 3 as my daily driver for pc games. I have a 6ghz router and it with the right settings it is damn near impossible to see the difference between a wired pc headset and the Quest 3 wireless. I am intrigued by the Beyond, but their lenses don't cut it yet, so maybe next gen. The Quest 3 I can put on anybody and they have a nice sharp picture without dialing in how to wear it, and they can move their eyes around without getting weird artifacts or loss of sharpness. It's honestly a bargain for the price. (PS: 90 percent of my gaming is done wirelessly from my pc that has a 4090, so I get all the oversampling goodies haha). Tip for Quest 3 owners with a good pc: Almost all games they have published for the Oculus Rift on PC that also has a Quest version, will give you a free crossbuy, so if you buy a quest 3 game on sale, you can go to the rift version and download that for free. The only exception I found so far is Beat Saber. Another tip is to look for referral codes, it is super easy to find 25% off codes for almost any Quest game, and also quite possible with popular Rift games.

    • @jollyjulian
      @jollyjulian  6 місяців тому +1

All great points here - especially the cross-buy for RIFT games! Any time I have been able to do that, I have, so I have BOTH versions! Not much of a thing anymore, sadly, as no new games being made (at the moment) for PC VR through "RIFT," but a great point, and I keep hoping Meta might pick the PCVR back up at some point to add to the value of the Quest line, as we've talked about here! Great stuff, and so glad to hear you're getting great PCVR use out of the Quest 3 as well, just as I am. Love that headset!!!

The video quality streaming to a Quest 3 is good. And the Quest 3's lenses are great. The downside versus a PCVR headset is the latency. That's the part that you can't eliminate on Quest no matter what you do.

And I have two of their batteries, and rigged a third from an extra power bank I had lying around, so I can play for probably a good 7 to 8 hours at a time, if needed, just swapping out batteries. People ask me why I have upgraded my PC after getting the Quest 3 since it is a standalone device... A game I recommend anyone who likes fantasy and 60 - 130 hour playtime give a try for sure! So cool! I do, however, wonder how AMAZING it would look with a PC behind it for better graphics, more population, better textures, etc.? Again, not to take anything at all away from what they did on the quest 3 - it is amazing - but man, I can only imagine what it would be like on a beefy PC with a good-to-great graphics card! @jollyjulian  6 місяців тому

Totally can understand where you're coming from, and I do feel the "Quest 2 or Quest 3" question will be a very unique to each person question. The quest 2 is still a FANTASTIC headset, especially for the price. No question there. For me, using VR for a few hours every day, the upgrade to the Quest 3 was 100% worth it. I notice the difference in visuals quite a bit more than I thought I would when I go back and forth between the two headsets (I use my quest 2 for "fitness" things like Synth Riders and Until You Fall and Thrill of the Fight). For me, the better lenses and higher FOV are worth the price, but they are luxuries, so nothing wrong with sticking with the Q2 for sure... love it!
