After watching your video, we realized that the battery comes backwards brand new! Nothing about this in the instructions from First Alert. You have saved the day!

(Since they saw it was hooked up to the electrical wires). Now they know it also needs a battery and how to place it correctly. The video is nice and clear and easy to follow.

We took our brand new smoke/carbon detector down to paint the ceiling and the battery fell out, popped it back in without a care in the world, when we were done painting my son plugged it back in the hardwire connection, and it beeped every 30 seconds, my dog was crawling under my skin Took it down for a week. I googled other solutions that didn't work and finally was going to return it, I gave google one more try and found this!! Flipped battery around and PROBLEM SOLVED.

Thank you so much Kirt! It took me a while to even realize where this chirping was coming from! The chirping started in the still of the night! Needless to say, I was sleeping. I initially didn't know what the heck I was hearing. Since it only happened every minute, it took a couple of chirps for it to really grab my attention. At first I thought it was coming from our electronic gadgets while they were being charged (i.e., phones, tablets, etc.). Eventually out of annoyance and concern, I got up to check. It took me a while to figure out it was the smoke alarm. Here I am, at 4 o'clock in the morning, roaming the house trying to pinpoint the cause. I realized it was the smoke alarm when I noticed the chirp coincided with that green light that would blink and when it finally chirped again, it was clear it was coming from there. Thankfully, I figured out how to unscrew it from the ceiling but that's as far as I got. I desperately ran to google to see what answers I would get. Thank God for the internet and your video!! I was so afraid I'd push something that would cause that super loud beep and wake up my 4 and 5-year-old! I didn't even know how to get the darn battery case open if it weren't for your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're a savior!!! I owe that peace of mind to you!

Thanks for this video. Every once in a while I think we should enforce capital punishment for the designer of such horrendous products as these First Alert smoke detectors. I have had these smoke detectors for 5 years since I built my house and this is only one example of the problems inherent with them and the careless (or malicious) design they have implemented to determine what is wrong. Wait until you install them with 9 others in a wired home! On top of that, I'm trying to figure out if they have a built in atomic clock that makes them malfunction at 3 AM!

Last night was the worst night of my life. Friggin thing in my room wouldn't shut up and couldn't try to turn it off cause it was like 1 am and I would've woke my family up. Literally wanted to get a hammer and smash the stupid thing. Today I finally got new batteries and replaced and it finally shut up. Now I can sleep in peace once again rather than going to the couch to sleep. Great video.
Yep it’s a good thing we just took off the whole smoke detector and left the wiring open wich is bad because it’s a exposed wire before it drives me crazy!.......yeah that sounded better in my head..

Unfortunately the CHIRPING didn't stop. I had no idea where it was coming from... but then I remembered I have a bird.

Pro Tip: When taking any battery out pay attention to "HOW" it is positioned/laid. Great video tho! will help a lot of people save time
