Andrew, thank you for that information. You are correct, it is 10 years old, and still chirping, not the same chirp, but still annoying at 1 AM in my Bedroom. You neglected to say what you can do to stop the chirp until a new one is installed!
The First Alert model he suggests you buy is TERRIBLE! Truly the worst smoke alarm/carbon monoxide detector you can buy! I bought a three pack of these First Alert garbage detectors 2 years ago. Once the battery dies, and you insert completely new batteries the alarm will not stop chirping. In fact, the company has a website page that addresses this with 6 reasons why the alarm won't stop chirping. It's a known design problem because the alarm keeps the charge and won't sense a new battery. The self-help options don't work, and the troubleshooting hyperlink is dead. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST!
This very unit shown in the video the newer one is preinstalled in newly built houses by Dr Horton. I am here because recently we have been having the alarm run off on us.
🙏Thank you, video is pretty comprehensive. We've known for decades to change ALL our smoke/CO2 alarms annually... the voice & or chirping is the follow up. As said, pull the battery(s) hit the device reset to clear, then install new batteries (right way around 😀) Cheers
I have this one, it randomly goes off. I changed the batteries last week once again because it chirps. Been a week later even with new batteries and it keeps going off like it detects a fire. I tossed it on the couchand rook the battery out and it's still occasionally chirping.. I think it has a possesion cause my other one room over has been fine..
But... I replaced my hardwired, battery-backup Kidde unit, and the brand new unit still begins chirping within 12 hours of replacement. Before I replaced the unit, it would begin chirping about every 2 months after the replacement of the battery. So, what's going on here?
I changed all the batteries in my smoke detectors. The one in my bedroom is still chirping it is hard wired home is three years old. Used all new batteries. Thought it was fixed last night however 12 midnight it went off again and again a 10 this morning help please!
Me: checks date of smoke alarm when it was first installed “made in 2006” It’s been over 15 years. It’s gotta go. Gonna upgrade to the newer technology stuff. Even with a new battery I could tell it was wearing off due to age. This video this hit got straight to it 👍
Hi there Andrew, I have the same smoke/CO alarm you demonstrated in the video and have replaced the AA batteries twice, gone downstairs and turned off the power to reset once, and have run a microfiber cloth around the outside of the unit. Still chirping. Any ideas? I'm just about out of my freakin' mind now after hearing the chirps since I got home from work yesterday. Would love to hear from anyone on how to fix! Oh, my house was build in 2020 so the alarm is not aged. Can't be more than 2-3 years old. Many thanks, Theresa
Hi Andrew, I have a similar problem except it's this: Brand new house, all new smoke detectors, all new batteries I put in myself. The detectors still chirp at random times during the day and terrify the crap out of my dog....what is the issue??
Moved into to a 2 yr old home a couple of months ago. Changed the battery back up for Kiddle smoke detectors. It starting chirping today and we can’t get it to stop. Changed the batteries. Cleaned sensors and 2 of them still chirps. HELP
HELP!!! I literally have no more smoke detectors in this house and the beeps are still coming out of the bracketed outlets with the wires hanging out. Can someone help? I am literally going crazy now. Can't find a video that deals with this.
After reading one of the comments a lightbulb went off. There was a carbon monoxide plug-in down under a windowsill that I found. I unplugged it and took the battery out and it stopped! For those of us who don't have good directional hearing, it can drive you absolutely insane. I had forgotten that thing was even there. Been there since we discovered a gas leak about a year ago.
But I live in an apartment. They have a hard wire with AA battery back up in my hallway (tiny one bedroom) its not linked to the rest of the smoke detectors in the building when it chirps it does not set off the one in the bedroom 5 feet away. The wireless one in the bedroom doesn't set off the one in the hall. Criminy.... the one in the hall is loud enough to wake you in the night when it starts chirping with dead batteries
So my wife hands me three batteries to change out all the smoke detectors. First one gave me fits couldn’t get it to stop beeping after changing the battery, tip number one “ make sure the plastic wrapper is off the battery before installing the new battery “
I guess I'm lucky. I have a 16 yr old house and one of 8 detectors caused a false alarm and once I hush it, it continued to beep even with a new battery. I never knew they had a life span. Looks like I squeezed a few extra years out of mine.
I've been aware of the ten year date issue since I purchased my first home in 1986. I put in 4 new "ten year" First Alert detectors three years ago in my current home. Two have failed since then with bad battery indicators and the batteries are not replaceable. The new First Alerts are just trash; typical Chinese manufacturing quality.
This is not help. This is basically a "You should replace your smoke detector with this one" video. I want a "help me figure out why is still chirping after i changed the battery and/or ive replaced the detector with a new one and it still chirping" video
It's probably still under warranty, I'd return it and get a replacement. If it's in your kitchen it could be oils or grease that was vaporized while cooking and stuck on the sensor. Or if you live somewhere dusty that could do it. But 1 year? Probably defective.
@@AndrewDIY I suspect so as well. Many thanks. Funny though...my detectors all start chirping right around the time I change their batteries 2x/year. I guess they're well trained now!

I came here to see how to fix the beep without buying a new one. This is just an ad.
Exactly, feel like shouting out the window, I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it anymore, like That movie
Thanks for nothing!
Seriously dude! What to do after change battery and still beeping it’s not older tgan5 years!
Useless video with misleading title. Thanks for wasting my time.
Any solution you find? Mine 2/3 are chirping

There is nothing you can do other than remove it.
Disconnect it take off battery’s

And DR Horton pre installs this thing by default for every new house they build...
Never knew about the date. I ran out for a new battery, than looked on the back of the detector. Mine is 8 years old. Time to replace. Thanks.
If some smoke alarms are linked electronically to each other throughout the house, do you have to change all the batteries at the same time?
No, the wires you plug the smoke alarms into are the ones that are doing the linking. You don’t have to do anything other than plugging it in.
What is the power plug for if it uses a battery ?, is the battery a power back-up in case your main power is out ?
Yes, battery is back up in case of power outage.
I was really hoping you'd help me disengage the chirping one (with new batteries).
What if your fire alarm is dinging if your house is less than 2 years old?
Exactly. BS answer.
End up figuring it out?
The new one I bought won’t fit the wiring I currently have but I put batteries in it. Is it ok to run it off 100% battery ?
This very unit shown in the video the newer one is preinstalled in newly built houses by Dr Horton. I am here because recently we have been having the alarm run off on us.
You have a real nice shop in the background...I'm jealous!!
Thanks! Took some time to organize it, but I'm glad I finally did!

New alarm, new battery, keeps chirping!!
Thank you for all your help I have done everything and it’s still chirping. Preaciate you!!. Thank you for the video your help was great

We are going through the same tonight. So annoying
We can’t thank you enough 💯🙌

What was the fix?
Does First Alert still offer free replacement of the device?

Same here. Mine sounds like a damn school fire alarm. It’s so loud and flashes so bright.
Thank you for this.
Mine is new but still won't stop chirping. ...... so - what's the reason? Ive replaced the batteries and pressed the test button. Still chirps
Going to order AA batteries. Thanks!

How to replace mounting bracket
I have the first alert with a battery change it's still chirping...please helppppp
Thanks i learned something new today 😂❤
Thanks. The chirping drives me crazy
So, NO help with the CURRENT one that's chirping??? (per your headline!)
Not helpful. I want to stop the chirping. No didn't clean the sensor. If that is an issue, that is an answer to the question and you don't cover it.
This is a new smoke detector so I’m not buying a new one again. But it’s continually chirping. New 9vbattery just installed.

replaced battery on first alert mfg Aug 2008 and was happy with new double A's.

Goes to a different fire alarm that does not have electrical connection same company. The one that you’re recommending is around $44 on sale
Take it down, remove battery. Replace when you get a new battery or detector.
Thank you. It helped.

Hate the AA, don’t last as long as a 9v battery… have to replace batteries every few months it’s so annoying.
What about a 1-year old detector that keeps chirping with a new battery?
It's probably still under warranty, I'd return it and get a replacement. If it's in your kitchen it could be oils or grease that was vaporized while cooking and stuck on the sensor. Or if you live somewhere dusty that could do it. But 1 year? Probably defective.

Most do not last 10 years before chirping or other problems. In my experience. I usually trash them. Not worth the hassle with the warranty
@@pirihern9329 Yeah, unfortunately "Planned Obsolecense" is something most engineers are forced into doing to keep the company's bottom line nice and fat.
Mines 2..chirp..chirp
If you burn toast, its a pain
Mine is doing 3 chirps and a new battery didn’t fix it. This might be it.
My smoke detector is only 2 yrs old. It has a new 8v battery.. it's clean..but it still chirps
Any luck? Dealing with that now.
Yeah..I got a new better one..I'm so cheap, I'm always scrimpin on money. So I got a better one.
Mine is only 5 years old and still chirping
Mine is just a year old and chirping with a new battery.
Bait and switch.. just say advertising for new alarm 🤷
Mine did that because one alarm was trying to 'talk' to the other one! Disable the older one!
There was only one chirping. I changed the batteries in 4 and now all four of them are chirping!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
