Thank you so much Kirt! It took me a while to even realize where this chirping was coming from! The chirping started in the still of the night! Needless to say, I was sleeping. I initially didn't know what the heck I was hearing. Since it only happened every minute, it took a couple of chirps for it to really grab my attention. At first I thought it was coming from our electronic gadgets while they were being charged (i.e., phones, tablets, etc.). Eventually out of annoyance and concern, I got up to check. It took me a while to figure out it was the smoke alarm. Here I am, at 4 o'clock in the morning, roaming the house trying to pinpoint the cause. I realized it was the smoke alarm when I noticed the chirp coincided with that green light that would blink and when it finally chirped again, it was clear it was coming from there. Thankfully, I figured out how to unscrew it from the ceiling but that's as far as I got. I desperately ran to google to see what answers I would get. Thank God for the internet and your video!! I was so afraid I'd push something that would cause that super loud beep and wake up my 4 and 5-year-old! I didn't even know how to get the darn battery case open if it weren't for your video. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're a savior!!! I owe that peace of mind to you!

Final step nobody talks about! When you unplug it from the wall at take the batteries out push the reset till it completely dies! Then put it all back problem solver your welcome everyone.

My apt mentience just changed the fire alarm and it’s been going off/chirping for a week now. I tried everything, im sooooo annoyed that I’m about to just throw the whole alarm system away and if it’s my time to go, then it’s my time. Urrrgggghhhh

Step 1) power off fuse box switch to the room you'll be in in the middle of the night so you can't see the alarm you are fixing to get to stop chirping ; ) (tip) if you don't have a portable light, use light from cell phone by setting it on top of the closest door to see the hard wires you can't detach in order to remove the batteries and hold own the reset button BEFORE putting new batteries in. Thought I'd mention that it can get even more complicated then you imagine if you have a different model of First alert (the one with the carbon monoxide detection & flashing lights) the units that use AA batteries, if you use the wrong BRAND of battery it will keep beeping, yea you read that right - read the back of my alarm to see they recommend Energizer when I had a brand new pack of Rayovac ......sure enough I had to use the other to cease the beeping.

I would like to see how to detach the alarm from the power harness because mine does not just detach nor does it have a clip to press to do so.
