I only used white and burnt umber for this. Mixed together you get a sort of warm grey color. Add more or less of either one to change the value. I have tried it on wood. It worked much the same way. If the wood has a visible grain, you'll want to brush in the same direction. You can also thin out your paint ( a transparent paint would be ideal) to do more of a wash if you're working on wood to let it's natural grain come through. Painting on plastic could potential chip or peel off so I wouldn't but it all depends on your goal. I hope that helps! 🙂
My suggestion is of painting on plastic sand your plastic with fine sand paper and then wipe clean with alcohol to get the dust. Once the surface has lost that high gloss it will stick. To do wood look on plastic u can use white acrylic, chalk paint or spray paint then use antiquing wax to get your wood grain look. There are quite a few tutorials on here for just that! A lady redid a little plastic shovel and rake from dollar tree and she actually made the handle look just like wood and the shovel look just like distressed metal. Amazing things all of your ladies do! I love this technique you showed here because I'm getting ready to do a diy and I am deciding how I'm painting my background!!!!! ❤️
Colors will vary by brand but for a natural pine, I'd recommend using a mix colors like a white, a dull yellow orange ( like Yellow Ochre, Indian Yellow, or Naples Yellow) and a reddish brown (like Burnt Sienna or Red Oxide). You can really mix the colors yourself too if you don't have those exact colors but have some good primary colors to work with. I hope that helps!
