Im gonna paint my first painting on canvas and i wish it turn out good
Cool. Out of my first 50 paintings I only liked 3 or 4 of them. I'm really glad you like yours.
Kevin, speaking as a beginner this is the best video on the web that eliminates confusion. Thank you!
Kevin I have retired and started to paint , joined a weekly group and love i however my art work seems childish and o see how it has changed is sad. Our art tutor is amazing and full support is given when he notices I need some support. I am am not giving up as I enjoy the good group I have joined so i am hopi g to improve. Anyway Kevin just to say I have taken a big interest in your art and how to use the tools and you painting are just second nature to you. Thank you so very much.
@@lyndakennedy1224 How goes the painting, Lynda?
The New York times is
it’s It’s a real honour if someone especially a friend wants to have one of your paintings on their wall. I found that they tend to look for paintings which match the colour of their room. I was really surprised when a friend took a shine to my very first mountain scene painting. It was very basic and a bit bare. But somehow worked well in a frame. So chaps it’s the viewer who REALLY judges your work not you.
I agree Catherine! My painting literally look so amateur, but I’ve been able to sell 3 already! Good luck on your journey!
I sometimes give some to our local charity shop. Because I can’t keep them all and it’s a real shame to just hide them away in a file if someone can enjoy them and the charity shop can sell them to help their funds. Not ideal of course,
Well, when I see some modern paintings which are a few splats and splices and dots and flick on the canvas and they are judged professionally to be almost perfect and worth thousands. Humm, I say to myself well at least my paintings look like something you’d recognise. I never understood why a heel of bricks was worth thousands, WHAT? I thought the artist meant that the bricks was a symbol of mankind’s evolved modern living. If you’d call some movies art. I watched How The West Was Won recently and although I feels it’s a brilliant movie, especially James Stewart playing Mr Rawlings went to see the Varmint, ha-ha. But after being sooo beautiful show the wilderness it’s peoples and animals over a few generations. They decided to end with a flyby over a huge motorway into a concrete city saying we’ll look at human progress isn’t it brilliant. No, actually it looks like a symbol of humans pollution and inconsiderate use of our earth. I don’t know but may be art that says something about how you feel and try’s to carry a message of some kind to the viewers are best. I love Stubbs paintings, celebrating the form of animals and OK mans manipulation of the breeds, I love Turner and Capability Brown. Having lived near Gibside one of Turners brilliant subjects helped of course. Art isn’t meant to be perfect, or why not just take a photograph. I’m struggling with techniques like all beginners, trying to find my style. Being a TAurean I have to tell myself not to be serious about stuff. And just let me enjoy painting something I like.
Thank you Kevin, you can make clouds or trees look messy and then turn them into beauty. Paint brushes are key learning how to tap or using the edge of brushes 💗
Oh Kevin, thank you SO much for this tutorial. I can't wait to have a go with all I've learned from watching this, and other videos. You are a fantastic teacher!
Awesome mini lesson. Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Love how you maneuver your artwork especially in creating clouds. Thanks so much for the secret on different brushes and their functions.
WOW Kevin! I learn't more in your 17 minutes than in a whole lifetime watching painting tutorials. I've got my first grass and tree featuring painting on the easel at the moment and I was totally lost how to approach the grass. You're tutorial was just what I needed. Thank you muchly!
Thank you for the great class, Kevin!
Every video of yours is so positive and the choice of colors is so lively... Just pure delight. 💗
I love the goofiness in your voice my word... enjoyed this video
Love how you demonstrated the blender brush. I've had trouble with clouds and now I think that will be a thing of the past!
Thanks Kevin. I love your enthusiasm. It is so refreshing, and yes, it is nice when the paint makes a picture, and the way the brushes work, to make strokes on the canvas, and suddenly, it looks like so,etching you recognize. 😂
It’s been over 20 yrs since I’ve painted. My medium is acrylic. I really appreciate these reminders and new tips. I love listening and watching and you inspire me. Thank you.
I love watching your videos. You are helping me be less intimidated with oils. Thank you for taking time to do this.
Thanks so much for the painting lesson.
Today I’ve learned a lot about the brushes and techniques with you that I can practice on my own.
Excellent painting tutorial 🙏🏼🖼 🎨
For the first time ever I now know what brushes to use and how they work best. Been painting for years and never really understood. Many thanks for making my painting life so much easier.
Thank you! What a great lesson on brushes, and what they are best used for. This was so helpful.
Thank you soooo much! Painting has been a long ago love for me and your tips are going to bring that artist back in me! Art is was always my passion. This will help me so much with my time as I am disabled!
I've been using acrylics for years and am finally starting to use oils. This helped so so much! Thank you!
Thank you for beautiful tips. I was struggling with the rocks grass.
You are such a good teacher and you are so understanding, resoectful of others opinions. Such a sweet man!! Thank you so much for making this video. I have learned a lot in such little time. Art is amazing and relaxes me. I can tell you are very passionate about it too.

Even your doodles are gorgeous! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks a bunch for this tutorial! You are so gifted, and I am in awe of your creations. I appreciate you sharing your profound talent and your time to share techniques with those of us just beginning their painting journey.
You are such a blessing. Thank you so much for all you share. God Bless you and your family ♥️🎨
Excellent overview Kevin! As a beginner, this was super helpful!
Your voice is so calming…you are secure and confident…thank you
Thank you Kevin for all your tutorials
This was awesome Kevin. Love the techniques for grasses and uses for the liner brush. Thank you!!
This is my first time watching his videos (there are tons of tutorial videos here n there) but whenever I start watching them they become boring. And I just click next. But this one, the way he explains, and his little laugh while speaking, that was so cuteee, and which makes me stay on this video, and watch full.
Plus the way you showed how to use different brushes and strokes. Man sooo Gooddd..
Tomorrow I gonna start my new painting, and definitely will apply these techniques.
Thank you soooo much for making this video.
Awesome @kevinOilpainting
Each stroke so beautiful!!
I’ve been watching oil painting channel after Channel and I learned more in this short video than all the others combined. Thank you.
Oh yessss. Definitely what I'm searching for!
Great video Kevin. I think as new artists we over think everything. Basically some brushes make things easier but you can pretty much use most brushes to do the same thing except for fine details where you need a very fine thin brush. As long as it works for you, than it's fine. Thanks for these tips and video. No matter what you do it always looks perfect!
Thank you Kevin.I love watching your painting techniques.
Love your work Kevin
This was great. No wonder I’m struggling with rocks! I was using a round brush to try to paint them!
Man I struggle with Rocks also..

Thank you for that information. You paint so beautifully.
Invaluable and freely given. Thanks, Kevin. ✌️
Been painting for 30 years and I STILL learn something new. Thank you so much! 💓
I love the way you paint!
You make it look so easy! Thanks for the tips : ) I'll stay tuned.
Thank you Kevin. I needed to watch again to motivate myself to get back to painting.
I have not had a paintbrush in my hand for a few months.
I was doing upholstery on an RV, and then on our boat. All during the Corona virus. I spent too much time watching the news... What a waste, and the fear that it brings!
I need some happy time; I need to paint again! 🖼️ 😀
Beautiful Kevin!
There is NOTHING Finer than a man who can paint❤.😊
Respect Kelvin, that has helped me so much to understand where I go wrong especially doing grass.
You have to inhale....😎

WoW, you'er extremely cleaver Kevin. Just exactly what this beginner needed - thank you so much 👍
Thank you for shareing this is my first time I have ever had a go at painting and finding it very rewarding.
"It's just art right? It's fun... it just doesn't matter." That made me laugh so hard for some reason lol
My name is Kevin Hall and I'm a painter and i approve this channel
Serious? Do you think this channel needs your approval..HAHAHAHAHAAAAA!
NO!
If you want to approve something then aprove something that you have created! Have you created actually?anything?to approve???
I'm trying to find out on here, what the brushes cost? Where to find them?
Hi I’m Kevin and im an alcoholic
@@girore7116Wow. Pretty sure he’s just joking for a fun comment. It wasn’t rude or sarcastic, just light and fun. Why so angry? No need friend. Chill, deep breaths, and just enjoy painting. 😊
😂❤😂
i know this is very off topic but the sounds he make everytime he giggles are just very soothing
Your enthusiasm is fantastic to see. Your skills are tops. Well done Kevin.
I learned so much about the brushes and what they're used for ! Your technique is magical ! Thanks Kevin, I will now attempt to put it to use.
Awesome, great job Kevin I'm inspired
This is a very tricky video to create and I think you did a great job showing specific uses for brushes in landscapes! I end up using the liner brush for way more things than I should 🤣🤣🤣
i am mesmerized with his voice , so soothing
This is awesome! Thank you! I’ve been painting as a hobby for many years.I just picked up paint and brushes and went for it. Fun, yes. Doing it “right”... not so much.
This is such a gift!
Also, I think this could be a great ASMR video! Your voice is so calming!
when you say "it doesn't matter! its fun :)" it makes me want to weep. in a good way
this was so helpful Keven! I am still getting used to my brushes. Thank you so much,
Sweet short simple... Perfect! 💜💜💜
Thank you so much! This was a great tutorial on brushes and on painting techniques!
I absolutely love that video. You made it look like all I need to paint is a good brush technique. Talent is something extra but not required. I feel that I'm going to buy some brushes and start experimenting 😁
I hope you started. If not, it's never too late! And talent is one thing, but the most important is practice... and having fun while doing it of course :)
@@mars_12345 Amen!
This was so useful, I’m a pencil artist that is considering having a go at acrylic paint. What brushes are out there and what they can be used for has been very useful.
Paul Roberts Kevin paints in oil, which acts differently than acrylic, mainly in dry time. There’s additives you can add to reduce that, but it still doesn’t behave the same. Like that grass for instance, I could never do that in my acrylic pieces. I wish I could! But by the time you laid out all of your colors, the paint would be dry when you’re ready to fan brush it up.
I'm an acrylic artist. Definitely a great medium to start with. The key to making great acrylic paintings is to understand that your first coat of paint will be the ugly phase please don't give up there and just say you're not good at painting. That coat is what we call an underpainting where you just get the basic colors and shapes down. The more layers of paint you put on your painting the better it will look. You don't need to start with expensive paints. I use craft acrylic paint and as long as you put a gloss varnish on when you are finished you will never be able to tell it wasn't the expensive stuff. I love the look of oil paints but I make my acrylic paintings look like oils in the end by using the thinner craft paint and building layers. I suggest you work on canvas rather than paper. It will be easier to make it look good. I wirk on paper at times and it just takes a lot more layers as the paper soaks up a lot of water. If you choose paper do a layer of gesso mixed with gel medium first. You'll have a better surface that way. Acrylic is so forgiving. If you mess up you can just paint over the mistakes. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
@@LostInParadise8706 If you use a better quality paint, heavy body paint, your colors won't dry that fast. You can also use some flotrol that slows down the drying to be able to blend in a timely manner. But you're correct, it would dry with a cheap thin student paint like Apple Barrel.
im a pencil artist , now on acrylic. its very different but so interesting. try to learn skills by artist who you look up to for inspiration.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your quick tips on the brushes, it really makes sense when looking for that perfect brush stroke.
Thank you for showing how to use these brushes!
Kevin, you have a good heart❤!
Hallo from Greece.
This was extremely helpful. Thank you. ❤🎨❤🎨❤🎨❤👍😁
Beautiful painting for learning what brushes.
Thank you Kevin!! Learning a lot from you!! Out of all the tutorials, I find you are hands down the best!!!👍😊
I love how you have a relaxed style. I actually started feeling like I was about to float off of my bed, and land in the clouds on your painting. LOL. Great tips, and amazing techniques, too! I look forward to watching and learning more stuff, thanks!!
Me too Tammy!!! I feel so relaxed watching this.. 😊
🤗
When you paint it seems so effortless just swosh swosh with the brush and its a mountain or tree or whatever but the amount of time and experience and hard work in one swosh is what makes it really amazing.
By the way I mostly paint with watercolor but I still find this video extreamly helpful but this makes me want to try oils or acrilic.
@@dalegreene5615 hey! Not to promote myself here but if you are interested in my work check out my content under my profile. I'm only a beginner and still got much to learn but I hope you find something enjoyable 😄
Spectacular tips and art. Loved this!
Kevin, thanks, I found this really helpful, especially putting paint on the canvas rather than the fan brush.
Yes fantastic I really enjoy your commentary and off the cuff laugh with comments.
Made everything look so simple!
Will be tearing my hair out soon.
Thank you ;)
A great refresher. Thank you Kevin Hill
A great video Kevin and so easy to follow . These are all important details that make the finished painting stand out . Many thanks for sharing your amazing skills with me .
Beautifully done Kevin, I paint myself but your techniques on this video are wonderful and will help me to Improve my painting a lot. Well done my friend, many thanks for sharing. Kelvin.
Thank you. I enjoyed learning how better to use the various brushes and your very special techniques!
Your a super teacher!
I love it! Thank you ,Kevin
Thanks Kevin! This is very helpful!
Thank you so much!!! This really clears up some of my misunderstanding of certain brushes that I don't touch nor my artist friends either because we don't quite know how to use them.
Forgot to say subbed, liked and clicked the bell icon. Keep doing such a great job.
I'm happy to see this video, when you paint so beautifully and perfectly :)
Thank you!!!! Very helpful!!!!
Excellent and inspiring tutorial. Thanks for sharing, Kevin!
Hey this was a great video. I loved how you took the time to show the different techniques and best brushes to use. It was very enlightening! Looking forward to learning more from you!
Love this video! I was wondering if you’d consider doing a video using water mixable oil paints?
I've never heard of a blender brush before, and would have appreciated you holding it up first, so I can see what it looks like? Watching while you painted, it looked pretty much like the 2 inch, so can you tell me the difference please? I learned a lot from this video otherwise, thanks so much for making it, and love those mountains and rocks!
Yes, it would nice to see the brush up close & their package/retail name. Thanks!
Thank you Kevin, enjoyed this very much.
Bravo! Thanks for the teaching!
I can see we had the same teacher, even your voice is almoste the same ! Love him. So that's it : you are my next mentor. I love your grass and mountains. Howeverr, I want to ask you : how do you clean your brushes when you finished a painting? I know that my Australian friend, Greg Bak,r gets an illimited suplies of paint brushes if he agrees to do some exhibitions with paintings made with those supplies. I am not that famous (far from) and that lucky. He never said it, but Bob too, had always almost new brushes. I can't even get green out of mine. I want to see more and learn more from you so I subscribed. Thank you !
amazing tutorial! but i cant stop get the feeling of deadpool doing art when i hear you talk XD
What a sweet artist, you make it look sooo easy!
Thanks Kevin! I love your lessons!
You are an awesome teacher, cute and have a very mischievous smile.
True!😉 Its nothing sexier than a man who can sing, play instrument or paint
