    At first I was like, "why the yellow?" Then I tried it without... Uh-huh, it needs the yellow. Magic! :o) That's why.

      Yeah, the yellow just gives it that extra depth when you go over the other layers with your dry brush. It adds color dimension. I'm so glad that you gave this a try! I'd love to see your painting!

    The squared off brushes are called flat head brushes. I use graphite pencil on my canvases all the time. I use HB pencil and then I use a kneadable eraser to lighten the sketch. Acrylic paint hides my pencil sketch every time.

      @@kanmf89what colors can I use to do a blueish gray and black colored fence. I rembered the colors you used for the brownish colored wood fence.

    • @kanmf89
      @kanmf89  4 роки тому +1

      I'd probably do mostly gray with a dab of blue mixed in for that weathered look, and maybe use a base of regular brown instead of yellow. And for the number 3 color, just use the same thing I used for this one, but maybe add a little less brown & more black. But, go easy with the number 3 color, just use it to line your edges & accent the panels a little. Hope that helps. Good luck!

    • @kanmf89

      Unfortunately, there isn't a tutorial for that one. However, I used this exact technique for the "wood planks", and then just hand painted the word "Family" over it.
      Looking back, I wish I would have purchased a stencil or even a decal for the word lol. I'm not the best at painting words.

    • @kanmf89
      @kanmf89  3 роки тому

      To be honest, i have never used a black canvas, didn't even know it was made that way lol. I'd say give it a try, and if all else fails, acetone your canvas & start over. The beautiful thing about art is that it is subjective, and there's no right or wrong, ya know? I hope you have fun, and I hope that your project turns out amazing! If you've got an Instagram that you share your artwork, I'd love it if you tagged me so I could see it once it is finished. 🥰

    Where did you find your stiff brush? I went to Michael’s yesterday but none seemed stiff enough.

    • @kanmf89
      @kanmf89  3 роки тому

      I've had mine for years. None of my brushes are fancy or anything, I'd assume it was in a pack of various brushes. I have several packs that contain a variety of styles. Some come with soft & hard. You could always find one that just has a minimal give when you comb the bristles, and cut them shorter. They are stiffer towards the neck.

    If I wanted to do more a grayish wood, would I still do the yellow undertone?

    • @kanmf89
      @kanmf89  2 роки тому

      To be honest, I'm not sure. I feel like you could still use the yellow, and just add less brown to your mix. Maybe even tone your yellow base down with some off-white mixed in.

    What a great demonstration! I would love to see a video of your table as that's what I want to do but have been afraid to tackle it because of the taping. If you could send me the link, I would really appreciate it. My color choice is the grey driftwood look. What 3 colours do you suggest? My feeling is there should be some brown...maybe the base? Thank you so much!

    • @kanmf89
      @kanmf89  4 роки тому +1

      I don't have a link to my table. We bought a build-it-yourself picnic table and I just stained it a blueish gray. I wanted it more "weathered", but it was my first time staining anything lol. I think I was supposed to wipe the stain off after applying, and I just kind of painted it on.. The table was $100, and you can find them at Lowe's & Home Depot. As far as the color of stain, just look at the options your store has & choose one that fits your style the best. We will be building our own bed platform some time within the next couple of months & I'm going to try my hand at staining again, maybe I will film the process (building & staining).
