I'm not going to lie, I did not expect the results you had. I imagined the thickest parts of the paint would not even crack. As soon as I saw the first result I immediately shared this with my daughter. That is an amazing technique. Subscribed and trying it for myself. Thank you.
That looks pretty good. I painted movie sets for many years and it was interesting to watch you because your results were good. I worked for some of the top decorators and art directors in the world and they would never have went for that black that you added. In real life you almost never come across black except when there been a fire. You can use something like raw umber which is really dark but not quite black also when you spray with the water if you would add just a drop of dish-washing soap to the water it will look more natural. If you want to try something really fun get some old fashioned shoe polish "the paste kind" and some paste wax and rub them on there experimenting with how much color you add. Keep up the good work it was fun to watch you.
Ohhh I used to use shoe polish, the kind that came in the dabbers, lol, for "primitive decor" long before they started making all these colored waxes and chalk paints! Worked great for an "antiquing" look!
I would watch any videos you put out about set painting! Very much missing professional artists videos on these types of techniques on yt, it's very "crafty" and alot of the same "shabby chic" aesthetics. I'm a painter/sculptor/potter with a formal education in all these fields. But there's loads of stuff I never got into at uni that I'm curious about, especially weathering surfaces and historic interior effects and techniques that aren't "cute" or kitch. Brush tech, various patinas, old school marbling/marmorino effects, bronzing, verdegris etc for people with some experience painting or sculpting, thats not sponsored by some expensive diy brand. I havent found any youtuber with your type of experience, I'd be in instant follower!
Wow that’s all I can say is wow this has been the best tutorial on crackling that I have watched thank you so much for your talent and the way you explain the instructions. Best looking crackling effect ever.
Right I hear ya I hate spending a lot of money on fancy products when you can get the same result from making your own so glad it worked for you and glad to help out. Thanks for all your support here. Take care.
Thx! Always good to know another technique. I use CRACKLE by DecoArt. It's one step...brush it where you want it over first coat of paint. Then put second coat of paint on and sit back and watch!
Deidre. I watch you all the time on my TV. I am in my room when I watch your videos. I wanted to try the crackle effect. I love this method. Thank you for your many ideas.
I've never seen this technique before ...absolutely beautiful effect ! Really well explained too, I didn't realise that the crackle effect could be achieved with school glue . Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
@@OurUpcycledLife Thanks for your reply 🙂....I'm going to have a go at this ...have been watching your helpful videos for a while and it's inspired me to do some pieces which I hope to sell on in a local village market!
Absolutely gorgeous technique, I will be trying this pretty soon. Thank you for sharing this with us. Have a nice day ! QUESTION: could you do a transfer on this or would you transfer on another piece of wood and nailed it on that amazing piece of wood ?
I love the finished look. I have a very old table and this is the look it has. Its authentic and I've wondered many time how to get that look. You just accomplished it. 😁😁😁
I stain the entire piece first with a darker (oil-base) stain. Let dry, then come in with the paint/glue process. When you sand, the darker color will be there because stain is absorbed into the wood.
This is amazing! Is this technique safe for leaving the board outside on the patio, or would the plaster of Paris soak up the moisture and get soggy? Would you recommend using a transparent matt finish and if so, what could work? Thanks!
Great technique. I'd love to try it. I bought two large containers of Elmer's School glue and opened one to do a project. I didn't use any more of it for awhile and when I went back to use it to try this great technique it was moldy. This is the second batch I have had this happen to. The first time I called the company and cheerfully replaced it, but this is the replacement and I am so disappointed. I have never had glue do this before. Have you ever had this problem?
Its amazing what you have done. I have already used your recepie for textures paste - works wonders😅 You are talented artist and still you can explain all in easy friendly way to amateurs like me. Thank you for sharing 😊 One question-can I use acrylic paint instead of latex one?
I love this! I am refinishing an old wooden bench that has been in my mother’s family for years. It will more than likely be outside on the front porch. How does this technique stand up to being outside? Would I just use exterior paint instead?
I love that technique it’s gorgeous ! I’ve never tried it that way but I’m going to now . Have you ever tried the crackle effect on tin / metal or something like that ?
Great idea. I think, I saw someone using a wood block or scraper, to do something similar, recently, but I can't remember who it was. I was wondering if people still love the old chippy look. I think it is so beautiful, especially when you add a color or two behind the white, like you did with that beautiful blue.
Omg this is beautiful and exactly what I'm looking for! Working on some Halloween decorations today, I'm curious if the small block of wood is necessary or if I can use something else? I have everything else in the video except that.
Love all your videos, you are so talented! After doing crackle paint, do you seal before adding graffic? I did watch til the end, and I think you just sealed it after all done. Just making sure.
Thanks a bunch for sharing :) would the crackle effect stay on like that or do i need to coat it with PU or something to prevent it from further cracking and chipping ?
Thanks for sharing.. Question I have mod podge super high shine clear acrylic sealer would that do the same thing as poly acrylic sealer? Is it OK to use that?
I want to try this on the top of a dining room table that has some damage, to camouflage that damage. What type of polyacrylic do you recommend I use since it will be on the top of a dining room table? Thanks!
This is awesome. I painted a dark plastic picture frame with white diy chalk paint. Now I'm thinking to do crackle. Do I need to remove the white paint and use black chalk paint then white? Please say no any suggestions much appreciated.
I have an old table and chairs. The table is veneer, I think. Can I do this on this table with the veneer, or should I sand it down before I do the painting. I was thinking of doing and thin white wash on the table. Mary Anne Record, (wife of Gary)
If your table is a veneer, you’re going to have to paint it with a primer first in order for it to stick and then do your painting technique on top of that
Incredible!!! I have a lot of white paint, but I get the feeling that using chalk paint is the difference for making the distressed/antique styles, is this a correct assumption?
