The TCL C845 is an affordable budget-level 65-inch TV that offers plenty of features and an image that is bright with plenty of punch.
The problem for movie enthusiasts is that this brightness is inaccurate and can cause the image to look washed out in dark viewing rooms. There is a lack of contrast and blacks can look milky as a result, which is unusual for a VA panel LCD TV. The reason is the local dimming algorithm adds too much brightness and gamma adjustment to SDR and HDR10 content, with some raised blacks and black bars that are not pure black. This will not be as noticeable for bright room viewing where the C845 is going to spend most of its working life. Hopefully, TCL will fix this issue with a firmware update for those looking for accurate images.
For everything else, the C845 is great value for money with very good gaming features including two full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports and eARC on one of the HDMI 2.0 ports so you don’t lose a 2.1 if you want to add a soundbar. As a large-screen gaming TV, it is a fantastic option giving users access to the latest features, a huge screen with very good HDR performance and fast input lag for even the most demanding of gamers. For all those reasons it gets a Recommended badge.
    The good
Over 2000 nits HDR peak in Movie mode
Very good value for money gaming performance
Two HDMI 2.1 inputs at 48Gbps and eARC on an HDMI 2.0 port
    Decent sound quality
    The not so good
SDR can look washed out due to an over-bright local dimming algorithm
HDR tone mapping is overly bright with HDR10
Dynamic HDR tone mapping over brightening the image
Some light DSE and banding seen

I know what you mean, I think it's because TV is actually a much more complex area of tech than we all think. I'm into tech, but it took me days and days of deep research, watching, reading, googling, comparing. I didn't even know TCL or Hisense are so darn good.
And people just go for the familiar reputable brand. And marketing people are clever, they know how to trick us.

Sorry to be a nerd here, but TCL has Google TV, not Android TV.
Unfortunately, all of the TV operating systems have their issues. Android TV actually lags even more over time than Google TV. Fire TV(Amazon) is one big interactive commercial. Tizen(Samsung) is very limited as well as WebOS(LG) and Vidaa(Hisense non-US). And all of them can have lag issues.

    • @cholera4858
      @cholera4858 3 місяці тому

@@jakobbode18 black bars(top and bottom, very rarely on sides too) are normal for most of the movies in HDR - that's the way the movie was filmed("cinema" picture format). You can try to get rid of them by certain options in your video player, but there's no miracle - they'll just "magnify"(scale) the picture by sacrificing the corners of the picture(simply lost).
If you have black bars inside the actual picture, or "on top of your picture" - then that's definitely not normal.

Can someone confirm that the C841K is the same specs as TCL aren't getting back to me and their support system isn't great. The specs look the same from the website but there is no way to compare these to double check. I have been looking at Hisense U7N which has a great spec and gadgets but I have heard they are not as good as TCL.

Coming from a Samsung MU6310 UHDTV purchased back in 2018, oh my God, I was surprised on how good the TCL is performing, especially with the motion and sound performance. I thought cheap TV brands like the TCL will not be able to deliver, but damn I was wrong. My wife was also convinced already, the first movie we watched yesterday to test and calibrate the settings using C845 settings was Transformers Rise of the Beast in HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos format.

Hi, Does the TCL C845 have PVR/Timeshift function or not?
On TCL global website in the specifications (additional feature) for all C845 display sizes is written that the the TV has PVR/Timeshift (Comply with different regional standards).
A few of my friends have this device, but they can't manage to operate it, there is not such function.
The C845 did recognize the external SSD and HDD via USB Port, but they still could not bring to work any PVR/Timeshift function on it.
Did you find such function and it works? if so, how and where it's possible to use/start it on an european regional C845 TV?

The response time is unnoticeably better, and the audio i believe is much better on the 845 , but they're very similar. if you worry about burning I'd go for the mini if the price difference isn't worth it. Cause really the main difference is the brightness of the mini LEDs and audio between these two.. I've been asking myself the same question but I'm going for the 845 simply for the mini-LEDs because i don't want to worry about burning and I usually keep my devices for very long years.. it's just more future proof.
but i still believe that the worry about burning is exaggerated.. if you switch tvs often, just go for the 745. .

Any recommendations for an OLED that can switch between freeview and freeSat easier than the LG

The catch is the tv doesnt properly output 120hz.
In another review it shows will not output 4:4:4 chroma @120hz, which is pretty shit on tcls part.
Dolby vision basically fails to work on it in any beneficial way, 2 ways that both u7k/u8k hisense models crap on it, both are sub par faults.

In my country (Czechia) there is a mandatory 2 year warranty, and TCL offers extra 3 years for free.
I had an issue with a faulty HDMI port on my 85 inch C845 and they've sent someone for free to fix it. It didn't help so they just took the TV back themselves in a truck from my apartment and issued a refund. I'm sorry that in your country the service is this terrible.
However, I enjoyed the TV so much that I think I'll just buy it again when the money comes back, hopefully with a working HDMI port this time:D

I didn't gloss over it, I mentioned it in full and that TCL will provide a work around. You'll also find the same is true of many Google TV equipped sets this year, including the flagship Philips and Sony TVs, but they don't offer a workaround.
