QUESTION: How are the "Viewing Angles" of these TV sets. Your video doesn't mention that when comparing the 75" versions, which is what I would be interested in, the U8K uses an IPS panel, while the QM8 uses a VA panel. In the past this has meant the VA usually has "Better Blacks" while the IPS usually has "Better Viewing Angles." However, these panels use the Mini-LED lights that have excellent black levels. This means the IPS screen using Mini-LED should by default be much closer to the VA Panel. I recently bought a VA panel monitor for my computer and I was forced to return it, because the moment my head moved just a couple inches from the center, the color would start to become very inaccurate. It was like this with another VA panel, too. I then got an inexpensive IPS panel from Element and the viewing angles were excellent - the colors remained accurate even when viewed from the side. As a result, I'm not excited about the idea of buying a VA panel TV. I like the idea of buying an IPS more; however, I don't like it that the U8K only uses a 8-Bit Panel. The QM8 uses a true 10-Bit Panel.
As with all VA LCD panels generally, not great. Samsung and Sony flagship TVs are a little better thanks to their wide angle filters but you're paying a huge premium, and if you are paying the premium anyway, then I'd go with the S90C for even better wide angle saturation unless you need 85"!
@@stopthefomo I recently saw the 75" IPS version of the U8K at Best Buy. Holy Shnykees! That TV has perfect "Black" levels, just like a VA; however, it also has perfect "Viewing Angles" similar to an excellent IPS. Have you see the 75" version and will you be doing a special test on it? If so, can you please use your "Starfield" comparison that was similar to the one used for the QM8 vs the XL90. It looks like the 75" U8K would not suffer from the Starfield Blackness problems that the QM8 did, simply because the 75" U8K has a completely different type of IPS panel.
I am so confused on which one is right for me. How noticeabley bad is the QM8 with low bit rate content (UA-camTV) compared to the U8K? I tend to watch more streaming services than I do gaming or UA-camTV but if the QM8 is really bad with gaming and low bit rate then I will have to choose the U8K or splurge on a S95B or C2
In my opinion u8k is better. Especially better shadow details, better color banding, better upscaling, no red pushing, better judder control without soap opera, better reflection handling
Hey FOMO. Caleb dropped by and mentioned the Filmmaker within the U8K was broken in your stream. You turned the light sensor off but he did also and mentioned the preset is just bugged and broken (capped at 900 nits) regardless. Why is this crippled U8K filmmaker mode being used against the QM8 which is calibrated operating at full blast
I didn't notice any issues or "crippling" with my FMM and it actually matched the brightness of the QM8 in all counts, only the colors were slightly off due to it not being calibrated. Calibration would not fix any dimming issues. This is why my review does not mention color differences. When it comes to brightness, my U8K was definitely not capped and if you watch my review, the only mention that the U8K fell short was in full screen sports (Vivid or Standard) which was very minute at that! U8K's biggest disadvantage is the inability to tone map 2000 nit content as well as the QM8 - that's it really. It's definitely not brightness in FMM (for me at least)
Why does the U8K always look so yellowish in colour? Is this a problem with the panel or are the colours just not set correctly? You can also see at 9:15 min. that the red goes too much into orange, here the blue is missing. Can this be easily remedied by readjustment or is it a problem with the channel?
I wonder, for a typical consumer (I believe I'm pretty typical)....other than using game mode for PS5, all my other watching is on movie/filmmaker mode...I never change setting based on the content I'm watching. Therefore, which performs best with a generic setting?

Hold up...when you get to the Netflix portion, are you saying you go in and change settings to put the TVs in a different picture mode than they were in when you were using the benchmark UHD disk? I've been wondering if you use the UHD disk to adjust settings, does that only apply to watching content on a UHD or BluRay disk? Do those settings carry over to a good picture when switching to Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Peacock, Max, or any other app from a device like a Roku, Apple TV, or FireStick? I would not be using any of the built-in apps. Are you suggesting if you transition from a disk to a set top streaming device, that settings would need be changed? Then you use completely different settings when test You TubeTV. This all seems like a lot of hassle. Do people actually jump through all these hoops when going from one streaming app to another? Isn't there a one size fits all set it and forget it type setting so one wouldn't have to go through all that rigamarole? You would need some kind of cheat sheet next to the remote along with the steps to remember how to get to the settings. Hypothetically, if I'm using my Roku (on a Frontier FIOS connection) and watching say Top Gun: Maverick/Paramount+, will I need to change settings again to watch Bosch/Prime, again to watch Ahsoka/Apple TV+ app, and again to watch MNF/ESPN on UA-cam TV, or TNF on Prime?
For low bitrate content, is there a way on any of these TVs to automatically assign those settings to certain apps, e.g. UA-cam? Or do they have to be manually changed every time you use a low bitrate service?
how is the TCL's interface? I have a 75 inch Sony TV and the google TV's interface is buttery smooth, almost like hooking up PS5. All things considered, that's a bit more important to me since I know both higher end TVs are all pretty good.
This channel is so misleading that it makes me doubt he took $$$ from TCL and deliberately tweak the settings to make Hisense look worse. 10:30 you set contrast of U8K to 50 but max out the bar on QM8 and G3???? If the color tone is so visibly different on Hisense how could you even compare the details? Also who tf push brightness all the way to 100???? backlight to 100 make sense but max out the brightness??? This is some next level bs. To me QM8 being $600 cheaper than U8K wins the bargain, but U8K definitely wins on the stuttering reduction and low bit rate processing. In reality (not this misleading review), QM8 is being a bit red and U8K has a weird green. But you can tweak them to the level that there's visibly no difference.
QM8 out of the two looks the best in most instances. In fact even looks like the G3 in a lot of scenes. Pretty impressive to be honest. But it needs better image processing itself. Imagine a Sony processing on the QM8. Game over.
@@Korey72590Streaming devices don't dictate the picture quality capabilities of any TV. Their main job is to stream content. Nvidia Shield has great upscaling capabilities for older SD content but it still doesn't affect what a TV is capable of. The TV itself with its own processor determines the picture quality you'll get.
Hi friend! Question: Do you think the U8K overexposure issue (i.e. struggle with brighter scenes at higher nits, if my description is correct) can be resolved through firmware updates or is it more of a fundamental issue?
Does anyone know what the image processor "SoC" (Mediatek ????) is being used on the QM8 and U8K? With football season around the corner, I plan to purchase one of these for a man cave/garage. For youtubeTV and football as 90% of the usage, which unit? Sounds like H8K due to upscaling the lower bitrate, but it seems like people used to prefer TCL’s sports motion. Don’t want to regret…. Advice?
Are any or all 3 of these tvs calibrated? If he mentioned it in the video, I must've missed it when skipping past the Whokeys ad, lol. If they are, can anyone please post the timestamp where this was mentioned? If not all 3 were calibrated, then it doesn't seem as if it would be a fair comparison.
Im dissappointed you didnt mention 1. The Hisense is $100 cheaper. 2. The Hisense has 2 upfiring, 2 down firing speakers and a sub its actually quite good out the box. 3.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes ips panel wins in motion and color natural
But the Reds look better on the TCL Red like a Red power ranger lol
TCL QM8 is looking fantastic 👌🏾
Hey Fomo - which tv has the most pronounced soap opera effect when the motion settings are cranked up?
Im curious why hisense u8k is rated higher on rtings than tcl qm8
Any info if the QM8 will be available in europe ?
U8K seems to be the best to me other than brightness.
and its plenty bright enough
Why does the U8K always look so yellowish in colour? Is this a problem with the panel or are the colours just not set correctly? You can also see at 9:15 min. that the red goes too much into orange, here the blue is missing. Can this be easily remedied by readjustment or is it a problem with the channel?
it's only the settings. i have the 75u8kq.

I have an 85 QM8. DV doesn't look good at all on my set. HDR 10 looks phenomenal. So, it doesn't bother me at all that I'm missing out on DV.
That’s because you’re using the tv instead of a streaming device like an Apple TV that uses Dolby vision by default . The only time you’re allowed to use DV on The QM8 is when you’re watching that kind of content.
@@deltonjohnson9239 I use a Google Chromecast bc I don't leave my televisions connected to the internet. I don't want to get "Samsunged" with an update and mess up the picture quality. I just noticed when I played something in DV that it looked noticeably worse than HDR 10
I was in Best Buy shopping for a TV and the salesman really tried to discourage me from buying a TCL or Hisense tv. He was pushing Sony. Now Best Buy doesn't have new TCL QM8 98". Looks like he was trying to push the sony tvs especially since they're sold out of the TCL QM8 98". Can anyone speak on this? Any experience with TCL QM8?
QM8 vs C935 what is the difference?
How much if this can be calibrated out on the LCDs? Seems we just don’t see these reviews for people who will calibrate their displays
Can you please review TCL S5 (98s550)? It doesn't have to be 98", however it's the best deal for a 98" in 2024.
I bought the qm8 couple weeks ago and love it but I think all these TVs are great and unless you happen to be one of the very few people in the world that have both side-by-side you'd be hard-pressed to complain about any
I think that's also the reason why some people are happy with the even cheaper ones.

Hi, what about the 100 inch versions between the U7K and the U8K? I've heard that they are very similar
How do these compare to an LG C1
Having a epic struggle on which 85" TV to get...The QM8 or the U8K. Just waiting on availability and pricing from Best Buy. Any info on when the U8K will be available at Best Buy and what the price will be? I'm assuming it will be more than the QM8 currently at $2,200 so is it worth it to spend more on the U8K??
TCL model are a bit confusing, QM8 seems not available in Europe, maybe it's the C845 here?
13:22 The Hisense has better image but the colors are washed out.
Which TV has a higher level in the manufacturer's line: TCL C935 or TCL QM8? Is it possible to automatically calibrate QM8 using ColourSpace by cube 20^3? As far as I know, C935 can be calibrated automatically by cube 20^3.
Again the U8K appears cooler and the QM8 warmer, yet you didn't mention it. For some reason that bothers me and leaves me wanting more. (Edit: Is it the camera, or can you see this in person?)
I see the same thing and wonder too if it’s the camera or tv. But I’ve noticed it on other of his videos too
He didn't calibrate the TVs, this is just how they look with the presets he chose.
@@orangesaturn oh ok. So you think the greenish shading could be calibrated out?
I was hoping it was the angle he was filming at or something like that.

I got impulsive and bought the qm8. The blooming on the u8g bothered me a little and the motion Control. Now was it worth the money spent? No of course bc when will 1000$ ever be justified when it comes to entertainment . But I will say I like the tv better than the u8g
The issue you're seeing with Monster Hunter on the TCL QM8 looks like motion interpolation artifacts. Try turning off all motion clarity settings and let us know if that fixes it.
Good point I’ll try it, but also keep n mind that the U8K has motion interpolation on de-judder 3 as well

Can you please tell me what the input lag is on the QM8 in game mode ? This would help me out so much FOMO thanks
Would love to see the QM8 next to a traditional OLED, like the C series.
G3 is a good substitute for the C3 due to its brightness matching the QM8, and the G3/C3 image processing is definitely better but the C3 simply cannot get as bright for sports SDR and bright HDR movies (Mad Max, etc.)
@stopthefomo Should one seriously consider the QM8 over something like the C2? Considering the price of either one is not an issue.

Hi would you share settings for u8k ?
My question is that the U8K testing I see are all 65in tvs, but the 55 has 400 less dimming zones, so I can't see the 55 performing nearly as well compared to it's 65in counterpart.
Excellent review... Thanks a lot... Unfortunately you didn't mention about the audio.... Since the pictures between the two TVs are very close. My choice is U8K since it has better audio....I am not interested in spending $500-$1000 more for a soundbar system... thanks 👍
U8K does have great audio, but the QM8 audio is also pretty good, and both are better than the QN95C
Should I upgrade or stay with my TCLR646? Thoughts guys?
Stick with r646
What about the Sony X95L VS TCL QM8 ?
It's a real shame that tv dosen't come In 65 Inches In the US , It has vitually no blooming this time.
For low bitrate content, is there a way on any of these TVs to automatically assign those settings to certain apps, e.g. UA-cam? Or do they have to be manually changed every time you use a low bitrate service?
Qm8 right now has the best contrast of any LCD tv.and we all know contrast is king.also, the qm8 is better than the u8k at motion
Better contrast than Sony X95L ? I'm not sure...
@@damienmty3954lol I used right now, because we haven't seen a comparison yet from Sony's
how is the TCL's interface? I have a 75 inch Sony TV and the google TV's interface is buttery smooth, almost like hooking up PS5.
All things considered, that's a bit more important to me since I know both higher end TVs are all pretty good.
This is just not true. Better contrast yes. Not better motion.
I have qm8 and z9j, z9j is in a different class.
This review is superb!!!
If you use sth like the Nvidia TV shield Pro for low bit rate youtube content, how will that look like on the QM8?
In Europe there is hisense u8kq it seems different from your u8k do you have any information if the u8kq version is a better model?
How is Philips The Xtra 65PML9008 compared to these? I can get that one cheaper.
Is there an option to resize display on either of the TVs. Wanted use a single display for close and far off use
QM8 out of the two looks the best in most instances. In fact even looks like the G3 in a lot of scenes. Pretty impressive to be honest. But it needs better image processing itself.
Imagine a Sony processing on the QM8. Game over.
Can't this be fixed by just buying a streaming box like apple?
@@Korey72590Streaming devices don't dictate the picture quality capabilities of any TV. Their main job is to stream content. Nvidia Shield has great upscaling capabilities for older SD content but it still doesn't affect what a TV is capable of.
The TV itself with its own processor determines the picture quality you'll get.
Such a shame they did not make a 55 version
Hi friend! Question: Do you think the U8K overexposure issue (i.e. struggle with brighter scenes at higher nits, if my description is correct) can be resolved through firmware updates or is it more of a fundamental issue?
I am not a gamer....more into watching tv, sports, streaming.....which do u recommend. All my content is thru the Amazon TV Cube 2nd Gen
Does anyone know what the image processor "SoC" (Mediatek ????) is being used on the QM8 and U8K?
