What up bro Love your videos I know this is a old video, but it’s about wheels. I’m 42 years old, used to skate as a kid. Decided to re-hit the ground runnin with Fames, REDZ bearings, Rollerbones 101A/62mm wheels, 85A Sure Grip cushions. The wheels are not sliding like I want them to after 3 weeks in the rink. What would you recommend? Would the Sure Grip wood wheels be a bad idea? TIA I had a guy WAY WAY more advanced than me tell me 3 times at the rink yesterday I was doin my thang though! Made me feel good for just 3 weeks in. Taught myself how to skate backwards in the garage the other day. Now I want your 180 transition spin!
101a doesnt slide very much, so def will wanna get something different for that. but you must be putting that work in! i salute you relearning so fast lol. wood wheels, fomacs, etc can be very slick tho so take it easy on those. i felt like a baby giraffe when i first tried em lol
@@Sk8Fam Thank you bro sincerely. I’m one that when my mind is set, you can’t tell me shit! Would it be a major difference from 101a/62mm to 101/57mm Bones?
101a 62mm is more stable for sure. i like 62 mm personally for balance, even tho u have more precision with the smaller wheels. i have weaker ankles from my sports days so i lean towards stability lol@@damientomlinson3446
What wheel do you like for outdoor wheels? I love rinks but with Ms Rona rolling around, naw. I need to mix it up and go outside but my wheels aren't ready.
Hello. . Could you recommend skate wheels for me. . I had All American + but found they gave too much slip so I switched to RollerBones Team Logo 98A and found they gave more grip than I like. . I need something in between (I skate relatively well) I’m clueless as far as wheels etc. , Here in NYC it’s more Dance/Rhythm Skating. Any suggestions you can offer, I’d greatly appreciate.
Hi, I really like your videos! I want to get into outdoor skating but not sure on brands or style .. is their a major diff between the leather and plastic boot? Torn between Rio and ventro pro turbo ..thank you!
@@QueenQueen7-0-2 the plastic boot is a bit stiffer, the leather stretches and forms to the foot a little more. outdoor plastic might better choice lol
Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam thanks for the confirmation .. do you have any pref on brands that are comfortable and reliable or is more relevant wit the wheels and other parts ? Have you used the ventro b4? Thanks again
I’m not sure we’re to post this question. 2 months ago I bought the Riedell Uptown’s with Radar 97a wheels with Abec-5 bearings. After some research, I ended up getting Rollerbones logo 101a and Reds bearings. I love the grip of the wheels, but the bearings are a whole lot faster than what I’m used to. I’m considering putting lesser bearings in it as I try to go a bit slower and focus on technique rather than speed at this point. Do you recommend for me to wrestle through this until I master the new bearings? Or do you have any other recommendations? Thank you,
the bearings not making you go faster, its the wheels most likely. most bearings produce the same effect. but going from 97a to 101a, u will definitely notice a faster roll. 97a is softer, so they roll slower.
was good sk8 fam, can u hit me with a lil advice on skate wheel would do me the best. im tryin to get my JB skate on. i got the big bulky outdoor wheels that came with the skates. im about 270 lbs, so can u recommend which wheels would be best for crossovers and jb'n ? thanks fam....
For an almost intermediate skater would you say 57mm or 62mm rollerbones……I have 57x95mm that came on my sure grip skates….but thinking of getting a harder wheel for rink skating now that I’m more comfortable….i am like 195lbs…lol!
I was interested in learning to jam skate. I want to buy Moxi skates though for esthetic purposes. Do you have any suggestions on how to make them better for jam skating?? Igs like wheels or plates?? I’m not real familiar with the technicalities of skates lol
Hers my take on indoor and outdoor wheels, for outdoor skaters if you're a dance skater, if you can find a set of small orang or yellow krypto's for indoors I've found the flomac premiers one of thr oldest companies around and Canadian little Red or green wheels if there still made and last but not least unfortunately I can't remember the name the wheel was the most popular at the time was the all American dream and for the people that wanted a less expensive wheel was the all American plus, and for inside a higher hardness like around 97 ish was good and for outdoors a softer compound something in the 80ish durometer is was better to absorb the bumps in the road. Signed " WHEELS" that was my nickname. I skated at empire roller dome then metropolis skate club on west 55the in Manhattan and last but not least Roxys roller rink great cast, keep up the good work, "Quad skates for life"!🙃
You rollin' in NYC still? On a good day (if I'm not working), I skate at Canarsie Skate park or Lincoln terrace park. Message me on my channel if you want to try to meet up. I skate outdoors on almost any hardness wheel. I want harder ones though (96a is the hardest I've done so far. Have you used a FoMac wheel outdoors or does the hardened clay get beat up by the concrete?
Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam I have put on some weight and I wanted to start back skating since my knee surgery. I’ve been researching for days on outdoor wheels and couldn’t find a thing about what size wheel to get for your weight until your video popped up... once again thank you so much..You rock💪🏾
No lol. The height and width can change. But the hole in the middle will always be the same size so you don’t have to worry. Just make sure you don’t forget to have bearings and you will be good. Either take the bearing from your old wheels or buy new bearings for the new wheels
hey love the videos! i appreciate all the info, and i had a question. do you have any recommendations on jam skate stoppers or stoppers for someone customizing there own boot? i would love to see a video on this. THANKS
lol all stoppers are pretty much the same material that I know of. we all use dance plugs once we are past the newbie stage. don't over think it. just go with the stoppers that fir your skate mechanically and you'll be fine.
Man i got offa ebay sp 204 with formula 2 wheels. Used. And some used suregrip power plus 93a. 62× 42. Some soulfly wheels some evolve evo wheels some black camans and some black nitros. Waitin on moxi juicys and route 70's. Two more sets of plates and some led 58×32 82a china wheels. It all manifested in the last 3 months. Im quittin at that I got plenty of skate tools. I do believe the high dollar power plus wheels are the way to go. Wolf bearings are worth the 20$ too.
Thank you for this video! Very informative. I want to change the wheels on my Chicago skates. What wheels would you recommend for skating in a rink and outside? Cruising and dancing mainly. Thanks in advance
Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam thank you! I’m going to see if I can order some now. I ordered some wheels and stopper, came in today and none of them fit. The wheel I got were really for skateboards and the screw on the stopped was way to small for my skates.
@@senaz99 did the wheels have bearings on them? and the best option is to go to the local rink and get stuff in person so It can be put on there so u know it fits
What about these wheels for a starter beginner skater maybe practicing on a outdoor tennis court 60mm urethane spoke wheels with 608Z semi-precision bearings I’m 5’4 130lbs?
Bearings don’t matter too much honestly. In machinery it could matter, roller skate wheels don’t spin fast enough imo to justify expensive bearings. Long as u take care of them they last and they work perfectly fine
@@genopingon5367 im sure some expensive bearings roll great. but i have had the same sets of bearings for 10+ years and never had an issue. cleaning and oiling always does the trick for me
there are multiple ways to achieve that. more stability = bigger wheel, but bigger wheel = more speed lol. so to counter the bigger wheel, you could go softer in durometer. try the atom pulse wheels, they are big and soft. they are for outdoors, but you could use them indoors as well and be very comfortable.
I recently got some boosts...love the boot but I just don’t feel confident on em (wheels?) I got the rivas on there that they came with, people are telling me they’re trash lol..I’m looking at the bones now...do you suggest 101a or 103a? ...I’m gonna be shufflin ;)
whatever u can get comfortable with and practice in is good honestly. just not Chicago skates, unless u are a small kid and a beginner. other than that its all about figuring out what u are comfortable with
Hi Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam! I skate inlines and skateboards, and I can attest that similar concepts apply when I'm skakting, too. Sounds like roller skating would be most comparable to skateboarding. On my trick board, I have loose trucks and smaller wheels, both in diameter and thickness. They are also a little rounded on the edges for tricks. The trick board is more challenging to balance on due to the loose trucks and thinner wheels, but the smaller diameter - probably combined with slower bearings - mean that the board doesn't roll as much on flat ground. Less rolling is good for improving front / back balance (from board view, or in the case of being in a riding stance, our body's side-to-side balance). The slower roll on trick boards is probably by design, because trick boards are normally used for outdoor (and sometimes indoor) skate park obstacles like ramps, bowls, banks, boxes, coping, rails, etc. You'd be surprised how much speed you can pick up on those obstacles. So, slower wheels there is a bit of a good thing. My cruiser boards have larger wheels with faster bearings. Both of these factors mean that those boards will roll further. They are softer wheels, too. Combined with the large diameter, this means the boards will also roll a lot more smoothly on rougher surfaces outside, like rougher asphalt with some moderate settlement cracks. My skate park wheels are harder than my cruiser wheels for durability with the tricks. The softer cruiser wheels wear down over time, but their softer material makes cruising around my neighborhood much more enjoyable, whereas harder wheels would give me a much rougher - and not-so-fun - ride. While my cruiser boards do have larger wheels that will move more than smaller wheels, because they are wider width-wise and paired with tighter trucks / harder bushings, the cruiser boards are much more stable side-to-side (from the board perspective) than my trick board. This is why I prefer to loan out my cruiser boards when neighborhood kids ask to learn to ride. Now, as for inline skating: I have a pair of larger-wheeled recreational skates and a pair of smaller-wheeled skate park "aggressive" skates. (No joke, skate park inline skating is called aggressive inline skating.) Here is where things probably differ from roller skating and skateboarding: my *larger* 80mm recreational wheels are actually *thinner* and *rounder* than my smaller and thicker / blockier 57mm aggressive wheels. *So, for inline skating, sometimes smaller wheels will give you more side-to-side stability.* BUT, this rule may not hold true all the time. For example, triskates - perhaps moreso inflated off-roading triskate inline skates - may have fairly thick wheels for their size. But I must say that I can't think of thicker or necessarily smaller inline skating wheels than aggressive wheels. So, combined with the slower bearings and shorter frames - our rough equivalent of plates / chassis, I guess - aggressive inline skates can be a reasonable choice for learning some balance-based tricks on inline skates, like wheelings (manuals). Granted, though, my recreational inlines handle turns and higher-speed tricks more effectively. This is probably why most inline skaters who like to do flat-ground tricks or slalom will opt for shorter-framed slalom skates or free skates. Hope the comparison helps for anyone interested. = )
Incidentally, I've used hard and soft wheels indoors and out. I haven't noticed much damage to hardwood flooring indoors; but if I should consider hardness - or debris / road tar - someone please let me know. Thanks! = ) As for outdoors, I definitely prefer softer wheels on asphalt. Skate parks tend to have smooth-ish concrete, so harder wheels work great there, as long as the skate park is properly-maintained.
woowww. thank u for the very detailed response! im sure it will help a number of the people who come across the comment! i didnt expect it to be that long when i started reading it lol. but def some good comparisons
i have been really struggling with buying indoor wheels. I feel more comfortable skating outdoors on my outdoor wheels i can hit my spins better etc. I recently purchased the indoor fame artistic wheels and im sooooo scared to ride on them because they are sooooo slippery. any recommendations on wheels that will give me the outdoor effect but are considered indoor wheels?
what is the hardness on your outdoor wheels? 78a? but u can buy a wheel the is maybe 85a-98a that is considered an indoor wheel, but still soft enough to not be too slippery. the smaller the number before the "a" the softer and more grippy the wheel will be
@@Sk8Fam I purchased the 95 a sure grip artistic wheels for indoors ....Lol sounds like I need to be looking into some new wheels 😭😂 and my outdoor wheels are a 78 A I also have some moxi gummy wheels I practice on outside too
@@Sk8Fam lol it’s the “too soft” for me .....I’m still a beginner so I’m honestly scared 😂😭 I’m gonna test them out today if I need to go softer I’ll try the late 80’s.

I’m stuck between the the 57mm or the 62 mm for the roller bones teams wheel. Any recommendations? Using them on my Hyde’s I recently got, learning the jb style currently.
Hahaaa ! Ill tell you my secret. I wash the grease and oil out the bearings i used gasoline. We talkin bout metal precision bearings no plastic bearings. When their clean of grease dry thoroughly. Now you use powdered graphite. Its what they lubricate door lock keyholes with. It comes in a tube. Its like powdered pencil lead . just dont ride in the water. They spin forever compared to greased bearings. An watch out yiu might slip n bust yur ass too cause they gonna be quick.
@@OffNetAj I would not recommend fomacs on all 8. I would have to do at least one grippy wheel per skate. when I do fomacs I like to do 2 on each skate
Hey, maybe you can help me. I bought new skates back in March, when I was changing out my wheels the other day I noticed the bearings were a mix of ABEC 5 and 9s. I mean almost each wheel was a set of 5 and 9, and then 2 f the wheels had 5 and 5. Is that weird? The rink ordered them straight from the company so it seems they just sent them out that way. Can it affect the skate badly? Thanks.
Some swear by those "ABEC" ratings...but honestly? They're a joke. The ABEC system was invented for machinery. ABEC-1's are good for "slow rotations" - slow, in this case, being up to 25,000 revolutions per minute. ABEC-3's are for 25,001 to 30,000 RPM's. Etc. The ONLY way you're going to get that many RPM's on your skates is if you're doing about 300 miles per hour! I can go pretty fast on my skates, but I top out somewhere around 40-45 MPH so the likelihood you'll actually need ANYTHING above an ABEC-1 is....pretty much impossible. Mixing ABEC numbers won't matter in the slightest, whether you skate indoors or out....though I would highly recommend getting bearings specifically made for roller skates (that is, just about any bearing that isn't ABEC rated) as they'll preform better, last longer, and - with indoor skating only - won't need to be cleaned nearly as often since the shields are often tighter than the ABEC-rated ones. Hope this helps and roll on!
@@MystiqueRisingSun exactly my thoughts. i was reading about bearing and thinking there is no way in hell any skater would get a wheel to go that fast lmao

I have a few questions I hope you can help me with . I skate all the time I usually do just the rental I want to get some custom skate indoor I find that the rental ones are heavy for me i weight about 115-125 My shoes size is 4.5 in boys if I want to make my own skates what size plates should I get 4 or 5 and what a good size wheel to go with ( still learning and playing around with some tricks )
if you only using them for outdoor and u a beginner its not a bad idea. im not a big fan of chicago skates lol. whats your skate level, your budget, how often you plan to use them and where?
@@Sk8Fam Thanks for the response! :) My skate levels probably beginner since quads are different from inline, my budget would probably be somewhere around $150ish. I'd hope to use them daily, mostly on asphalt bc there aren't very many sidewalks where I live lol
@@villanelle169 then yea its not a bad decision to get chicago skates and some outdoor wheels. being a beginner and the fact that skating outside will be tough on the skates, just make sure to use the big toe stop (as opposed to the dance plug). dont want to spend a bunch of money on good skates before u become a better skater or ruin good skates by using them outside lol
I have Candi girls and have a 82A wheel and want to try some artist skate should I get different wheels they said the 82A wheels are for in door and outdoor
depends. will u use the new skates for only indoor or will it be outdoor and indoor? if both u will be fine, but i would get a harder set for indoor. soft wheels indoor is a work out lol too much grip
plate doesnt matter too much, but aluminum ones are good. plastic ones dont last as long, and the older plates ppl used to use are pretty heavy. most metal plates now a days are aluminum tho so u should be fine.
I’m still sort of a beginner skater but I have skated in the past, it was years ago. The wheels were bigger and I found them to be clunky. Since then I now have experience from dance and more balance, so should I start with bigger wheels to get back into it or can I go for smaller wheels for spins and stuff?
@@Sk8Fam I meant what size wheel lol. J12 is kids toddler sizes. The wheels that come with the skates are ugly plastic and hard to roll. So I figure I could purchase some for her 😁

TIA
I had a guy WAY WAY more advanced than me tell me 3 times at the rink yesterday I was doin my thang though!
Yeah bro if I wasn’t wit my wife, it might have been kinda weird for dude to keep pullin up on me like that if you catch what I’m throwin down👀 I don’t play that. Lol. But anyway! Yeah man I’m tryna slide n groove! I mean I’m workin on lil moves like big wheel, Stan the man, basic JB stuff. But I like that slide game too! I think ima try the Sure Grip woods. I’ll definitely keep you posted 🦒!!! What do you recommend for me to start with???
@@damientomlinson3446 im not big on sliding but i know a lot of ppl rock with sure grip. the only sliding wheels i had was fomacs and i liked those actually
@@Sk8Fam Right on man. Yeah I actually changed my mind. I’ve decided I’m gonna stick with the 101a/62mm I have now and just get my balance, and moves down. What is your opinion on 62mm to 57mm wheels? I use the stock fame wheels (57mm) to practice in garage. I can feel the difference in the mobility.

Hello.
Try something that is 101a. I’m a huge fan of bones. But any wheel rated 101a is pretty much the same hardness and grip
I have brand-new packaged witchdoctor wheels (blue)… any idea on value for all 8?
i have no clue. i dont know anyone who rides them lol
Hi, I really like your videos!
I want to get into outdoor skating but not sure on brands or style .. is their a major diff between the leather and plastic boot? Torn between Rio and ventro pro turbo ..thank you!
by leather and plastic do u mean the outer sole of the boot? or the whole boot itself?
Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam the whole boot - the plastic defiantly looks like it has more support and durable .. thanks

I never thought about that aspect of the wheels. I was on a tunnel vision that it was the bearings.
Thank you for responding.

No lol. The height and width can change. But the hole in the middle will always be the same size so you don’t have to worry. Just make sure you don’t forget to have bearings and you will be good. Either take the bearing from your old wheels or buy new bearings for the new wheels

One thing that is not mentioned in these videos are the bearings? Which bearings are best for roller skate dancing or racing?

What do you recommend for someone who is a beginner adult who wants a slower roll and lots of stability
there are multiple ways to achieve that. more stability = bigger wheel, but bigger wheel = more speed lol. so to counter the bigger wheel, you could go softer in durometer. try the atom pulse wheels, they are big and soft. they are for outdoors, but you could use them indoors as well and be very comfortable.

Do you think vnla shoes good to dance & go backwards in?
whatever u can get comfortable with and practice in is good honestly. just not Chicago skates, unless u are a small kid and a beginner. other than that its all about figuring out what u are comfortable with
Hi Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam!
(No joke, skate park inline skating is called aggressive inline skating.)
Here is where things probably differ from roller skating and skateboarding: my *larger* 80mm recreational wheels are actually *thinner* and *rounder* than my smaller and thicker / blockier 57mm aggressive wheels.

Ok, I’ll try not to sweat it til something crazy happens 😜! Thanks.
@@PicklesFiona lol no sweat! pun intended. thanks for watching!

Could you provide me with the exact link to the elite bone wheels that you use? I can't seem to find them for some reason
