Hi there! I'am learning to skate again. I am a 50 year old woman and I haven't skate for 40 years, now I'm doing it with my 6yo daughter. Oh gosh, I forgot how fun it was. I only knew how to skate forward and then stop with a wall or a streetlamp, hahaha. Now I'm learning going backwards and new tricks. Thanks for your advices and keep rockin'. Greeting from Spain ❤
I'm with you. I'm 53 and looking forward to skating again. I have a lot to learn. We have a 13 year old granddaughter who I want to share some memories with.
Im almost 60 and looking to get back into skating, i worked at a rink as a floor guard in the early 80s, skating was a big part of my life in the 80s. Good to see more older people getting back into it. Larry
Grew up in Orlando, Skated, Wed, Friday, Sat, and Sun, talk about loving it, I am 57 , haven't skated in like 40 years but still have my speed skates!!!! Want to start skating again, have dreamed about doing it again, every time I hear the old songs I "dry" skate in the kitchen my feet can still feel the wheels and the old jam going on!!!~~~~ I have read about all of you others that are also ready to relive our dream to... wishing you all luck too.....and Diamond...you skate just like my fist husband!!!! lol no wonder your video caught my eye...haha lol not to mention your doing a great job in your teaching...very good job....don't skip the basics, you have to learn step one good before going to step 2, or step 2 is never going to b e a smooth and sure thing!!!!!!! that is why you are so Centered. Like you have a string thru your center and your feet can move and you can balance. Just a visual....
Really appreciate this video. I started Rollerdancing in the summer of 2021 and was trying learn crazy legs and other more advanced movements without even knowing how to dribble because that is what I was seeing around me. Big mistake. Now it's all about the basics!
I'm 7 months pregnant and ready to get back to it. I haven't skated in a year and I'm itching for my wheels again. I can't wait to get back into the groove. My oldest son will love skating too I can tell. He already has an affinity to the skate boards
Can you make a video breaking down a skeletal order (I know it would be impossible to do an exact order) of moves to learn according to skate level? Like, most beginner friendly to more advanced? Having that kind of basic plan could help me understand what I should be learning next
I didn't quite realize it, but I leaned into freestyle skating as an early skater. I wanted to have enough moves that I could jam and flow from one move to the next without knowing ahead of time where it was gonna go. It felt like the threshold for me was having a solid 5 moves under my belt so that I didn't feel so constrained in my choices. But then jamming to the music, learning the beat, and being confident in my physicality all came into play to bring me into the flow state.
He is right about the music thing. I am a professional singer and counting is CRITICAL to a singer. I also dance to House/Techno/Disco. This type of music can really help you find your rhythm. I will say that when you go to some skate rinks and the music is bad, it totally throws you off! There is no fluidity. Great video Diamond!
Thank you! Thank you for showing what you mean with actual beginner moves! (Sorry I don’t consider crazy legs beginner 😅) It was so awesome to see you string step-outs and crossovers, shuffle and dribble, and make those foundation moves look great. It’s great to hear us beginners don’t need A LOT in our trick sets, because it feels like we’re supposed to. It’s nice to hear: focus on just a few moves and master them.
LOLOL you got that right about the rhythm. I skate with people with no rhythm all the time and I can't even look at them without second guessing my own.
Love to see this, even for advanced skaters this nice cause I try to help people with their skating so new takes on how to explain things are very useful if one explanation doesn't work. But still, feed my advanced trick addiction!!!!!
If you still don’t get what he’s saying. Basically what everyone move you can do. Stick with it and practice the hell outta it until I get better and better
I love the detail you go into w ur videos! Like u jus makes things make sense and moves feel so accessible! Like sets of foundations before advanced move. Like crazy legs for instance. I’m like one step away from learning how to crazy legs - after starting to drill the “foundation” move:dribbling! (Which I acc learnt from ur vids yesterday)! And to think crazy legs always felt so like far n inaccessible for me. Thought I’d share the love! Truly thank youuu! Love from London bro!
Yeah sometimes we want to go straight for the end result, but we haven’t built that foundation. Sometimes skaters do jump ahead and become good. But they never build those critical mechanics to become a great skater. Much love to you! ❤️
@@DiamondWalker agreed! But this might sound silly I think many ppl are unaware of foundations n basics yk? Like the mere concept of it. Wish a pair of skates came w a manual for jam skating basics/foundations u can learn or smth 🤣
Love the advice! Thanks. Would love to see your videos edited down to a more concise version. I think the videos will pop more. There are lots of tutorials on the importance of edits, and how to trim the fat so what you are presenting is streamlined, to the point, and holds the attention of the viewer. It can be scary to lop off so many chunks, but you'll get used to it, and get your message across with more impact. Thanks again for helping us be better skaters!
Very helpful! I've always just did basic roller skating around the neighborhood for fun as a kid and young adult but really wanted to expand into rhythm skating. There's a lot of overwhelming INFO out there , but I find yours simple to follow and understand. Thanks for sharing. Love It!!🤎🤎🤎
Yes mate! used to skate as well a kid and now my 36 I'm getting back in to roller disco scene. like watching your videos so I smashed that M F like Button. keep doing what 'cha doing bro.
Super cool what you do! I wish skating was more normalized in public places so you aren't constantly thinking you are breaking rules or not allowed. Especially public parks. Saint Louis had a whole rocky situation in trying to get the right to skate on a public rink in the summer. Let the skates roll freeeee! Thank you for your lessons and kudos to making this a business for yourself 🤘
Instant subscribe loll he said the word moist 😂 he gave us clips of his class and hes thorough... bonus is he's unapologetic and good looked 👌🏾 I hope this helps my skating!
I'm happy to say I've been to the workshop event he hosted at a rink in the NWA area and there's some great moves he teaches! He's an easy to understand and patient teacher, I'm happy I learned with one of the best!
Please do a video on crossing behind and its variants the step back, the walk step, etc. You touched on it in your downtown video. That crossing behind is something different lol
You mentioned getting kicked out of places 😂. The threat is real. If you’re trying to get your rhythm roll on people either 🤗😁 or 😤. There’s no in between lol. This is a great video and good on you for getting real about people not having rhythm. A lot of people want to hear top 40 their ears like but is terrible or difficult to skate to because the bpm is often too fast. I like the JBs or something else in that bpm range because it’s much friendlier to step to in skates at least when you’re learning.
Love the advice. Question as a beginner skater, I know how to just skate around the rink, push off and turn, stop… the super basics. Lol. In your opinion, what move(s) should be learned next?
New here, wishing you didn't talk so much, would you please do more moves as apposed to getting into your life story? 😆 I'm teasing, your great, I'm bingeing your vids
This video is great! But for me one of my biggest struggles is finding a list of the “basics” for me to start with, and in which order to learn those basics/moves/tricks. I used to inline skate but recently decided to transition to roller skates for dance skating and cruising. I could go fast on my inlines and had balance, but never learned to go backwards or transitions. If you could link or just maybe comment a list of things to learn and in what order that would be super helpful!!
Hello, love the videos. I'm not a beginner skater. When I skate backwards I have to stop before I turn around and continue skating on beat. Can u post a video that can help me learn this maneuver. Thank you.
Hey are u able to do a video on some of your fave stops. My skater friends tell me off for using stoppers so I want to learn how to stop without using them
I been jam skating again started back up after over 25 years off. I am 41 now and couple weeks ago fell skating backwards and spinning. Thought I broke my hip but just a really bad groin pull. Any good tips for falling for older folks looking to jam skate or help and guidance. Much love from Wisconsin
I quite like that you’re allowing us to get to know you. I clicked on your video cos I like that you chat. If I want ‘instructions only’ without sociability there are lots and LOTS of other videos. I’m a mature beginner. Thank you for your process. I’m also a Performer and would love to transfer my style to wheels! I would be ecstatically happy!! 🎉
What's the best skates/wheels/barings for jam skating? I've been rollerblading for most of my life but I want to learn to do what you do, and smoothly as you do. Sorry if this has been asked before!!!
Good video. You should also mention in a future video, when skating to music, be open to ALL styles of music. Too many get caught up to only one form of music to skate to and just indoctrinates them to move only one way. Different types of music open your mind up creatively, helping the skater move in new ways, improving their performance, ability, and style.

This is the best explanation on the importance of foundations I’ve heard. Thank you.👏🏾
Music is key. I had to wear headphones and skate to my own and my form improved tremendously. I haven't been skates in 15 years
