Thanks for this video you are a great teacher...I've been skating for a long time and getting back into it...Those guys you showed skating remind me of the guys in St Louis Steinberg rink when I was growing and watching my older sister skate.
Thank you for this video. ☺️ You explained this better than most. I’m a new skater... I do not need to have loose trucks at this point. When I get better at skating. 😬😂
Don't know about anyone else, but I have 2 pairs of skates I use: 1. Riedell 220 boot with the Super Deluxe Plate, 3 All American Plus Wheels on each skate (1 Fomac wheel on the inside back for more slide), soft cushions and Bones Swiss bearings. 2. Edea Classica boots with Roll Line Ring plate (no toe stop), same wheels and bearing set up as above. My trucks stay loose and I have no issues with doing 1-foot toe spins and keeping it tight or any other moves. You just have to get comfortable with the movement. Loose trucks help you to play the edges better. If you watch the artistic skaters(we have professional artistic skaters who practice at the rink), their trucks are SUPER loose, even more than I'm comfortable with.
that sounds like a beasty set up. you should post some pics and videos of you skating in them. I am thinking about grabbing a set of fomac wheels to test out. Here this guy gives lessons who was a national champ for many years in figure skating and he says the same things you just said. in a five min conversation he taught me so much lol.
@@Sk8Fam ... No doubt. I'll see if the guys can tape me one day. Yes, check out the fomacs. Only thing is they are super slippery so I wouldn't suggest replacing all of your wheels at once. If you do, it'll take you about a week or 2 to get used to em since you're a seasoned vet. Those artistic dudes are nice. They were showing me how to do doubles without the toe stop. Yo from Virginia, I am waiting on the new videos. But in the meantime I have a question for you. What do you think about using 45-degree plates for jb style skating? I bought the SureGrip Avengers. and will see if it help me move my feet a little faster.I am so stiff with skates that have stock plates.
The info you share is great! Can you speak a little about the cushions too in the trucks? Do they make a difference, and do they need to be changed if not hard or dried out?
Hey! Love your videos ❣️ What is the difference between loosening the front trucks vs the back trucks? Are you supposed to only loosen the front trucks and leave the back trucks tight?
the front wheels have to do more with steering and swerving, so loosening them u can swerve easier. won't matter too much for the back ones, probably best to keep them at a normal tightness
Loosening back trucks can help with carving and edgework skating backwards. Moves like the Boss Swipe, which is a figure 3 turn, is easier to cave both feet backwards into the 3. I keep all my trucks so loose they wobble when you shake the skate in your hand. That's Suregrip purple cushions. I'm about to put super soft cushions in.
Now, I am too old to say these skates are "litt asF," but for 5 yards, they should be. Dang, I had no idea they'd be so expensive. but I'm 72,. I used to use metal skates clamped to my shoes , on the sidewalks! and rent rink skates for a quarter. Nice boots, tho!
Watching this on closed captioning and the OG skates are oh geez lol Someone on your last video asked about trucks so went looking for a recommendation, realized I never watched this 😁
Mine came so cranked down it was pathetic. I'm slowly loosening them 1/4 of a turn each time i skate. Er, well, on my Graype Krush (Sure-Grip boots, Sure-Grip Optics wheels, Sure-Grip XK-4 Doubler plates, Bones Reds bearings - all purple, except the bearings, of course)). My Clown Skates (Black Sure-Grip Boots, Radar Demon wheels in every color, Bones again for the bearings, plate that came with them) weren't too bad so I skated those out of the "box". My Red Sox can be an issue at times. Made them from my Red Sox tennis shoes, the old plate from my Chicago skates I had since I was 12 (back when Chicago actually made a quality, affordable, skate), plus the Radar Demon wheels and Bones bearings. Those things have a LOT of movement. Enough for me to crank down the trucks since the soles of tennis shoes are really soft/flexible on their own. My biggest decision when it's time to skate is which pair to take. Granted, I usually end up taking at least two! I know the smaller wheels make certain moves easier, but I've been learning on the bigger, speed, wheels since that's all I've got at the moment, but I'm actually pretty comfortable with them so far. I know I'll have to get the smaller wheels once I master just a couple more basics. Almost scared to make that transition at this point, though since I'm so used to the larger wheel now.
when you switch the smaller wheel will feel amazing. a little slower, esp if you skate in groups of jam skaters you will notice, but the control and more tricks in the middle will more than make up for it!
cant tell u off the top of my head but remind me later. when I get back home ill check lol. its an old mic tho I bought it in like 2012 and its hooked up to a recorder
best is prolly the juice skates from riedell. worst is prolly the Chicago skates I had. but that was early in my skating career so I wasn't tryna spend a lot on some skates.
Thank u for letting me know. I used to try dif things to see what came out better and i made a lot of mistakes. Hopefully in the future i figure out the best audio set up

Hey Love your vids.... does the type of plate matter because I have a pair of Riedell it just say model 120 can't remember the actual name tho... they came with Team Bone wheels... My skate is super heavy Im wonder if I can get a lighter plate and if I do how would it affect my skating? What plate would you recommend?
If your plate is metal it is probably the Neo aluminum plate, which is very strong. u could switch to a plastic type of plate for a lighter option but it may not be as strong (theoretically speaking lol). I have the Neo aluminum plate that came on my skates and it doesn't bother me. I have pretty strong legs so no skate I ever had really bothered me. but the 120 boot that u have is heavier than other boots because it has padding. in it, which I also love cuz I have a 120 boot as well lol. u could get a thinner boot if the 120 slows u down

This was also happening to me and my local skate shop recommended an insert in my right foot. This totally solved the problem. It's a cheap solution, so its at least worth a try!
@@Sk8Fam I wish somebody had suggested replacing cushions to me back in 2006 when I was learning to skate on some used Reidell R3s. I eventually upgraded skates and had no issues, but in retrospect, I probably could've gotten better use out of those R3s by just replacing the cushions.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge man! I have almost pulled the trigger on getting Vanilla skates. I figure the shoe sized boot would make me more flexible and maybe a little quicker. I have 20+ year old Riedells with Bones 57mm. I don't lace tight but don't have the tongue hanging. Without the ankle supporting boot of the Vanilla jam/speed skates I figure they'll still be just fine for rhythm skating even though I'm a bigger guy. Thoughts about use, quality, and style of Vanilla?
I def think it would make you more versatile as far as the boot. Lower cut will give the flexibility around the ankle for sure. I have seen some smooth guys with Vanilla skates do rhythm skating so you should be fine. I never had a pair so I cant say much for quality but I would assume they are good quality, as I have never heard someone complain about them lol. Only skate I really hear lots of complaints about are Chicago skates lmao. I like the style of Vanilla too. I just like mid/ high boots. If they made a mid/high boot in their style I might be tempted to try it myself haha. If you get them make sure to come back and let me know how they are, and if you like them!
Does the kind of plate matter. I’m about to purchase a new pair of OG 172 and they come with the Powerdyne Thrust Nylon Plate. Is this a food plate or should I change it? I do a lot of the JB style rhythm skating. I don’t do any jumping or tricks, just a lot of the leg movement , a little spins and jerky turns in my routines.
nah thats a good plate! plates dont matter too much, but the metal plates are wayyyy stronger than the plastic plates, so whenever buying skates that u plan on using for a while, either get ones that are not plastic or swap out the plastic for aluminum nylon plates
its preference. but u gotta go by how it feel. and trucks change when u skate on em. the more u skate on em the looser they will get of course so if u like them really tight u will have to tighten them often
Do you loosen both trucks each skate or just the fronts? I had an idea that just the front two would be interesting but I wanted to kno if anyone had a bad experience doing this before I go to the rink with it lol
most people loosen both the same lol. but if u want to just do the fornt ones then test em and come back and let me know lol. i doubt it a bad experience tho. just may have a little more swivel with both loose as opposed to just the front
Look im looking for rink skates i do know how to skate but i dont know specifics about the hardware used on them and i also dont want ugly rollerskates cause i am young and wanna look fresh when out there
@@keltonw3478 the boost is a good skate. as you get better you will want to upgrade the wheels and get a toe cap to cover it so u dont rub the plastic binding off and have to get a new boot. the plate is plastic too but it should last u a good while, especially if you not doing jumps and stuff like that. but for your first skate, go for it. plus the boot is a clean black and if u want to customize it u can, with airbrushing, paint, glitter, colored laces, etc
Hey I had a question. I got back into skating about 6 months ago and learning all these awesome jam skate moves slowly. Thanks to your videos 🙌🏾 But i always am wondering how should i tie my skates like i see some skaters and it looks like they hardly tie their skate some tie half way up and then some tie them all the way up to the top up pass the ankle. How do you tie your shakes? Currently I tie mine half way up the skate that seems the most comfortable for me I skate with sure grip skates 1300 btw.
how i tie my skates up depends on the skate im wearing and the tricks i wanna do. if i wanna tricks where i balance on the outer edge of my wheels then i lace em all the way up. if i wanna do tricks where i take the skate on and off then i barely lace it at all so my foot can slide in and out lol. just depends on what u wanna do honestly
@@specialgamer2789 lol either you trying to hard or yo trucks not as loose as u think. remember its not a whole body lean, its more of a flex of the ankle to put your weight on a certain part of your skate for it to swerve
it should be fine. the major difference is derby skaers use a bigger toe stop. but both boots are pretty low cut and use big wheels if i am not mistaken lol
@@Sk8Fam Thanks for the insight! As a youngster I has a derby style boot and got very comfortable with it. I used it more for speed skating. After a 17 year layoff I am getting back into it. My kids express interest and I know how much fun I use to have. Now instead of speed I want to be smooth on the floor (jam it). Since I was most comfortable in a derby boot I wanted to buy a new pair...yet if it would hinder my goal then I would look to get a flatter heel jam skate and learn my balance point on them.
@@G_KODE Glad to have ya back skating. and bringing the fam as well. Its great fun with families. And yea smooth is the best way to go imo lol. Ik a lot of skaters who are better than me, but I am more smooth so lots of ppl think I am the better skater haha
all preference. in one pair of skates I use them loose and the other pair I use them tight. and online u can find pretty much anything. riedell website has a lot of good skates
Loose provides more room and flexibility. U can slide it on and off while doing tricks. Tight laces is more support. U can jump better and do tricks on one or two wheels better. It’s all about preference
@@Sk8Fam i got the og with the plastic plates ...that was a dumb move...anyway...is there a big difference between alum and plastic? Im pretty good but cant do some stuff...been wondering if it is me or if it is the plastic.
the alum plates are stronger. will last longer as far as supporting the wheels and as far eroding when rubbing. u cant counter the eroding by getting a toe guard or toe cap tho. what type of wheels do you have?
I just switched my plate on my 111s to some suregrip century nts plates a lot of people could be like I don't need em but tbh I do they give me more stability when I spin in my boot opposed to spinning with no control I just learned how to do cross foot spins on em to so yea they helped a lot with stability and all in all performance
my boy josh rides a hyde boot but he said its hard to get but u can use any boot, bones elite wheels, and a reactor pro series 2 plate. and he can do pretty much every jb move ive ever seen. in the my city the doper jb skaters wear riedell og skates. wheels and plates make a dif, but u pretty much can use whatever boot you like, so long as its not a jam skating boot. (jam skating boots are cut below the ankle )
u can buy a skate already together, esp if u get a more expensive pair like ogs or something. beginner skates come with beginner wheels, so if u want to go the cheaper route you can do that, will just have to buy dif wheels to put on.most of us use bonez red bearings. they are cool and not very expensive like other ones.
Bruh. Your videos be like..... WTF? In looking at this video I needed some context on your references. You kept saying "not like the juice's but tighter than the OGs"? Now I gotta go find 2 pair of skates to compared truck play? How about show the flex in a skate up close so we can see and understand the give of a "tight truck" vs. a "loose skate"? After watching this, I still have no idea if my personal trucks are tight or loose.
Thanks for the info...great stuff

Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam ok thanks that’s good information
Thanks for this video. ♥♥♥
thanks for watching!
How do you make sure all ypur trucks are equally tight/loose.... Also, should all trucks be equally loose/tight?
its preference. but u gotta go by how it feel. and trucks change when u skate on em. the more u skate on em the looser they will get of course so if u like them really tight u will have to tighten them often
@@Sk8Fam cool, thanks!
very helpful bro! keep it up!

Mic sounds good!!
thanks rae!
The beginning had me dying lol great video

good video homie! thank you

Look im looking for rink skates i do know how to skate but i dont know specifics about the hardware used on them and i also dont want ugly rollerskates cause i am young and wanna look fresh when out there
Are Riedell BOOST Rhythm Roller Skates good?
I want to be able to feel comfortable and be able to have confidence on my moves on skates cause rentals are trash
Will I have more control with tighter wheels
wym by tighter wheels?
How do you turn like that I try to lean like that in it’s hard and my trucks loose
If yo trucks loose turning should be easy. Do u fall over when u try it?
@@Sk8Fam yea
@@specialgamer2789 lol either you trying to hard or yo trucks not as loose as u think. remember its not a whole body lean, its more of a flex of the ankle to put your weight on a certain part of your skate for it to swerve
Is jam skating with a derby style boot counterintuitive or acceptable?
it should be fine. the major difference is derby skaers use a bigger toe stop. but both boots are pretty low cut and use big wheels if i am not mistaken lol
How tight should the laces be and where can I get better skates???
all preference. in one pair of skates I use them loose and the other pair I use them tight. and online u can find pretty much anything. riedell website has a lot of good skates
Why exactly do you wear them lost what does that do? And thanks I appreciate it
Loose provides more room and flexibility. U can slide it on and off while doing tricks. Tight laces is more support. U can jump better and do tricks on one or two wheels better. It’s all about preference
Got chu so for someone like myself that's going from aggressive inline to roller skates what would you recommend loose or tight
@@Bugzsbunny1 I use both equally lol. on my high boot I do tight and my low bot I do loose
Im likein the metal plate
Yours metal?

Hey I have question so what type of skates do the jb skaters use or does it really matter ?
most use hydes or a similar looking boot.
@@Sk8Fam fa sho thanks man the Hyde’s are very hard to find
What kind of skate plates, are those where yall di those one legged spins
most of us ride riedells and Riedell uses powerdyne plates. opt for aluminum over plastic as the aluminum is stronger.
@@Sk8Fam thanks for the gem
for sure! thanks for watching!
Good video
thank u! thanks for watching!
Audio is in mono...
idk how to fix it but thanks for the heads up lol
Hey my brotha you have some black beanies??
I gotta check. I had a couple left but i don’t remember what colors
@@Sk8Fam Ok cool I'll wait for ya! lol
I ride my skate looser cuz that's what I'm used to as a skater
Took me some getting used to, but def worth it!
@@berniegranr821 can u send me some vids? i would love to post em
Lmao sure when I ya know film some more footage but I think I have some old pregression clips
@@berniegranr821 lol cooooolllll. just let me know
So I do vnlas the roller skates and I saw some lips of you skating and jam skating and how good u r but kept up that good skating

Aye, best skates for JB ?
my boy josh rides a hyde boot but he said its hard to get but u can use any boot, bones elite wheels, and a reactor pro series 2 plate. and he can do pretty much every jb move ive ever seen. in the my city the doper jb skaters wear riedell og skates. wheels and plates make a dif, but u pretty much can use whatever boot you like, so long as its not a jam skating boot. (jam skating boots are cut below the ankle )
Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam so the best thing to do is get a boot and put it together yourself? Do you have special bearings also?
u can buy a skate already together, esp if u get a more expensive pair like ogs or something. beginner skates come with beginner wheels, so if u want to go the cheaper route you can do that, will just have to buy dif wheels to put on.most of us use bonez red bearings. they are cool and not very expensive like other ones.
Milwaukee24 Sk8Fam I appreciate the info bro!

Thats a good suggestion!!! I will work on a video specifically showing trucks lmaoooo
