Please consider making a video series about the Japanese denim industry next ! Japanese denim is considered the best in the world and highly regarded. You can start from the beginning on how the cotton is being grown and produced all the way to the master craftsmen putting the finishing touches on some of the worlds best jeans!

When we lived in Kansas we would buy a 1/4 side of beef from a close family friend. We could see where the small herd of cattle grazed and lived. While it was not Kobe, it was some of the best steak we’ve ever had. That farmer you interviewed understood that tasty beef comes from well-treated cattle.

I had A5 Kobe beef teppanyaki style on a day trip to Kobe some years ago. And it was absolutely incomparable to any steak I have had before or after. Absolutely worth every Yen spent, really really delicous. My boyfriend did only eat the 150g of steak that day, nothing else, because he was so blown away..

I'm lucky enough to live in a major beef-producing region of Japan, Saga prefecture. Saga Beef and nearby Miyazaki Beef are both among the best in Japan. It's not rare to find ultra-high-quality Kuroge Wagyu at butcher shops and supermarkets here for a fraction of the cost you'd pay at a yakiniku restaurant, and they often discount meat in the evening despite it being perfectly fine. If I'm lucky, I can have a 200g Wagyu steak for dinner at home for around $7, and I also love cooking eggplant in the leftover fat.

The thing about eating wagyu in sukiyaki or shabu-shabu is it ends up cooked well-done, whereas teppanyaki is cooked to the desire of the diner, usually rare or medium rare. The meat still retains most of its flavor.

That's some regal meat, right there. No yellowish fat intrusions, no globular look. Outstanding. Feedlot meat turned the quality well below average here in Argentina. Free-pasturing was so much better back in the day but profit and turnaround very much killed it. You can still get some quality cuts here but mate, they're expensive.
As always, you're my favourite content creator about Japan along Chris Broad. Your contents complement nicely.

    15:44 I agree.
I was in Kobe 9 months ago, and although Kobe beef is generally above my budget grade I decided to splurge (because... when will I be in Kobe again?).
I was with a Japanese friend who explained a few things, but we went with sukiyaki and it was a bit disappointing for the price tag.
I had had just a small piece of teppanyaki in the past, and my memory of that was far superior to the sukiyaki.
If I get the chance to splurge again, I will definitely go with teppanyaki.

Actually, Ako and your's reactions were actually more authentic, which made them more informative and trustworthy. If you have ever worked back of the house in service industry, this is how it's like eating with other cooks. We identify the things we notice as a test of our skill in cullinary, and then compliment the things that were good about it. I once went full Mecha-Karen at one of my favorite breakfast joints that has the best B&G in the entire region because they mastered the seasoning and preperation of the gravy and the texture of the buscuits, but completey overlooked properly cooking a over-medium ordered egg.

Wagyu really is special. After my year in Japan, I couldn't eat US beef for a few years because it was just so tough and flavorless in comparison. (Of course I learned years later that you can get better beef in the US if you go outside your average cheap supermarket, but Japanese beef still holds a special place in my heart.)

Good sukiyaki is always prepared at the table in front of you. Never in the kitchen. The difference in price is usually is whether there's a dedicated server cooking for your table, or if they go between several tables.
Kobe isn't really the only beef that has a sappari taste. Matsusaka and Maesawa beef(some people say Omi, some say Yonezawa. they're all incredible) are both highly regarded for this too, just not as recognizable names outside of Japan. For many Japanese, Matsusaka is regarded as above Kobe beef in terms of a stronger beef taste and slightly higher fat content(also, Matsusaka uses no steers, only heifers), which actually makes it better for sukiyaki because the sukiyaki sauce can easily cover the taste of Kobe beef.
although, if you really want to try looking into much smaller production local brands that are award winning domestically by wagyu fanatics, Noto-gyu and Otawara-gyu are both highly prized, and surprisingly as is Nemuro's Tankaku(shorthorn) gyu.

here in southern california, the demand for high quality beef has gone up a lot the last decade or so. more farms are raising 'american wagyu'. they are among the most expensive domestic beef. but still far less expensive than japanese wagyu. this is why the last couple of years, you see more all you can eat restaurants offer american wagyu, all the way to vegas. a good all you can eat place with american wagyu runs about $60 per person.

obviously this wasn't Kobe, but i had wagyu sashimi in Hida prefecture, and may i just say, that was the beefiest beef that has ever beefed... like, i've never tasted meat that tasted so exorbitantly much like MEAT. not sure if that were due to the rawness or the wagyu-ness, but it was insaaaaaane! 1000/10, would eat again 🤤🤤🤤

Eating steak where I'm from is extremely cheap! In a restaurant is about 10$ for 450g of premium picanha, and flavour wise... I haven't tasted anything better, not even in Argentina. So if you get the chance to come to Bolivia I definitely recommend you to try some steak!
