On July 31, 1943, the infantry company of which Pvt. Young was a member, was ordered to make a limited withdrawal from the battle line in order to adjust the battalion's position for the night. At this time, Pvt. Young's platoon was engaged with the enemy in a dense jungle where observation was very limited. The platoon suddenly was pinned down by intense fire from a Japanese machinegun concealed on higher ground only 75 yards away. The initial burst wounded Pvt. Young. As the platoon started to obey the order to withdraw, Pvt. Young called out that he could see the enemy emplacement, whereupon he started creeping toward it. Another burst from the machinegun wounded him the second time. Despite the wounds, he continued his heroic advance, attracting enemy fire and answering with rifle fire. When he was close enough to his objective, he began throwing handgrenades, and while doing so was hit again and killed. Pvt. Young's bold action in closing with this Japanese pillbox and thus diverting its fire, permitted his platoon to disengage itself, without loss, and was responsible for several enemy casualties.[6]

I got to cover this book for a book report in American Lit this past school year, best choice I ever made. Also props to my teacher who allowed me to do so.
On top of that, the society in the movie and book is far from Fascist as many like to claim. The uniforms in the movie were used because Paul Verhoven didn't even bother reading the book. He tried to portray them a Fascistic, but largely failed in that too. Look up Sargon of Akkad's synopsis of the movie.
Inexperienced troops will often tend to clump, and this is more excusable when the enemy's primary ground combat weapon is an angry bug with scythed limbs.
0:35 . MAN that is a spooky and way too realistic way to see into reactionary and ultra conservative ideology. "All the good ideas have already been had, we never need to change, self reflect or challenge our notions. Ever." This movie gets more fitting with each passing day, it's enough to send a shiver up the spine.
I was going to complain how these are in no way *”corvettes”* but then realized the utter genius of it all. The US Navy should rename their new Ford Class Super Carriers “Petite Class Patrol Boats”.
I liked the design enough to use it for my own little universe of stories. Called the Rolf Emerson class. They've become the primary troop ships. Weapons are a bit heavier than what the Rodger Young carries. Plenty of point defense weapons, 10 photon torpedo launchers. Along with 1 dual barrel turret above and aft of the main bridge. Along heavy shields.
Remember: They badly misused those ships in the movies - they are supposed to be used for covert insertion of squads of seriously bad ass power armor troopers via drop pods and the shuttles are only supposed to be for post-op pick up. I don't think the director understood what a corvette is.
I kinda like the larger drop shuttles that carry just 12 troopers. Each with their own drop pod. Once in low orbit each drop pod is deployed and begins its atmospheric entry before blowinging away into a cloud of highly radar reflective debris to confuse ground to air fire. each trooper then verifies his location and opens fire against any ground targets on the way down to clear his landing zone. on hitting the ground the.... Marauders then go to work.
I just wish Eaglemoss would get to selling models from this franchise. I loved the design for the Rodger Young! I also find it interesting how Mobile Infantry surplus gear made its way to the Power Rangers universe.
One of my top favorite designs from any franchise. With the stats listed here it could fill several roles including exploratory and colonization. Maybe even older retired ships would be retrofitted for civil cargo and passenger transport.
Oh, they've got no time for glory in the Infantry. Oh, they've got no use for praises loudly sung, But in every soldier's heart in all the Infantry Shines the name, shines the name of Rodger Young. Shines the name - Rodger Young,
I watch the movie specifically for the scenes of the corvette transports getting shot at in space and limping back to base, only to be sent out again with battle scars. It's cathartic, somehow.
You know, this is such a cool looking ship and being able to ferry soldiers to a planet is always needed. I can praise Starship Troopers for creating this. With all that said, you would think that the human race would have warships that could do more than what the Rodger Young couldn't. They had no sort of capital ship that could provide fire support for their marines from orbit. Yeah, having bombers and shuttles are good, but even D-Day had battleships and cruisers that could shell enemy opposition on the beaches. Railguns, lasers, and ballistic missiles could level enemy caves or wipe out swaths of bugs. I support a bigger space navy! Squish them bugs dead!
In the Original book the Roger Young carried one MI platoon with two capsule system drop tubes and at least 2 recovery boats to make the pickup. Out of drive drop back into drive pop back out to drop a boat back into drive pop out to pick up the boat and back into drive to go to fleet rendezvous point. None of this dead slow motion waiting to be hit.
One of the interesting facts is that the book has actually been on required reading lists, at both annapolis and West point., And for a certain amount of time on the commandant of the Marine corps recommended reading list for new officers A lot of people may disagree with the social and political statements made in the book but from a leadership and tactics standpoint I can understand why senior leadership wanted new officers to read the book Decades after being first published it still stands up as a classic, and the movie while a satire for the most part was dead on point in other areas One of those rare science fiction movies you can both love and hate at the same time while watching it.... A definite guilty pleasure
The ship was also designed with internal corridors far larger than Humans needed, but conveniently high enough roofs for Bug Soldiers to charge through. A welcome "upgrade" from the cramped layout of Human Navy ships.
I would love to see someone do something on the events and politics of the book, rather than just the movie of this universe. For years I'd tell people "On the bounce!" And only a very few people got it. The jump jets in the book are something that no other sci-fi series has been able to copy!
The Starship Troopers film was so epic that it was the only film I watched twice in the theater in one day. Or, rather, made my mom go to the next theater playing it in the cinema, as she’s told me. I was like 9, maybe 8? I think. Way too young for boobies and cursing and people being stabbed through the stomach lol. It was very strange. It was a big budget, big time special effects/CGI blockbuster that gave a lot of B-movie actors their start. Most of the actors continued in made for VHS or DVD or straight to the Sci-fi channel type of stuff. This film was an anomaly and it’s cool to see someone cover the lore.
My compliments, you've captured the spirit of the source material (Heinlein's STARSHIP TROOPERS) far better than the movies have, and in the span of a short UA-cam video. A Sun Tsu level analysis. Five gold stars and the depths of space ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌌
Corvettes? Baaah! Like bringing a knife to planet cracker fight. [suddenly holds hands with a wall] Gotta say the special effects from the movie have held up well. I kinda wanted to see the droppod revolver though.
The first encounter with the Arachnids occur over and on Pluto, in which Federation forces won a quick and decisive victory due to a lack of brain bug. This kept the Arachnids at a "feral" or "primitive" level allowing us an easy victory in comparison to later campaigns. This is why the invasion of Klendathu is shown to be a fluster cluck. The last time the Federation went against the bugs, they had no command or higher power to control them, leading to federation forces being overtly cocky and simply thinking they can land and shoot all the "dumb" bugs like on Pluto
@@toptiergaming6900 there are cases of insurrectionist forces in the outer colonies that they kinda do a good job of showing in the movies like Mormonism being more and more widespread and people actively ignoring federation law by owning weapons or protesting. Most of the time though they are either bombed from orbit or are on overpowered due to lack of firearms.
This is the most Starship Troopers script I've ever heard from the Templin Institute. "Intelligence failures caused these ships to suffer heavy losses." Yeah, you're telling me.
Unrelated to this video, but you should really do an video on Fedra from the last of us. I think it would be really interesting considering it's the only zombie apocalypse game or television scenario I can find (excluding WWZ) where the government doesn't just collapse immediately, if only hanging on by a thread 20 years later. It's getting a TV show a remaster of the first game that will probably provide more lore on it as well, And I think it's one of the most interesting factions in the series.
Despite everything i've always liked their design. I also remember a space game many years ago that put you at the controls of several ships that were obviously inspired in design by this movie but i cannot remember its name.
A continuity error involving the Rodger Young can be seen in the film Starship Troopers 3: Marauder. During a scene showing the York, at least two Corvette Transports appear in the shot that bear the same ship number as the Rodger Young, which was 176. This error is due to the fact that the models of the Corvette Transports used in the third film were models of the Rodger Young that were left over after the production of the first film.
You might think this ship is a stupid design for its poor combat capability but it's actually very efficient for the job. In a universe where you have no contest in the space, the only thing you need is a glass cannon ship that can bombard the surface and carry tons of troops. That saying they should add some armour plating on the side facing the planets now knowing that the bugs planetary defense is not something that can be ignored. A complete replacement however is overkill.

I really like the miniature game honestly for putting it all together.
@@KillerOrca well there are logical limits to that, obviously yes not every soldier would be issued the full power armor, however realistically sending men halfway around the galaxy would be very expensive, and every man, and his gear is valuable, while in the war of the roses not every man wore plate, it's also true that the conquistadors in the new world went and sent men with the very best because it was impossible to send enough to win by manpower, as shown in the movies these infantry would be I'll suited outside of planetary defense, where you just have to worry about making the gear with the planets own manufacturering equipment, while producing your other goods
I love this ship design. I was really surprised to see that ship on the ending of Kaguya-sama.
The starship troopers invasion is better
@@alexnderrrthewoke4479 based on the design, the John A. Warden and the small Fast Attack Crafts are way more elegant in aesthetics, not to mentions honest-to-goodness laser cannons!
I didnt imagine you will manage to pull of such a superb flowing amalgamation of the book and movies 🙂
That's cause he didn't.
A beautiful design, loved the redering from the The Roughnek Chronicles.
Thanks for covering starship troopers stuff. Such an underated film but with an interesting universe to explore.

God I love that film, best scene is the one where Jenkins suddenly turns up in the last third wearing an SS uniform to tell the audience that the yonic brain bug feels pain. Real Kino.
Good timing of the video. A new Starship Troopers game and a fan movie got released like a week ago.
"WE ARE GOING IN WITH THE FIRST WAVE, MEANS MORE BUGS FOR US TO KILL! YOU SMASH THE ENTIRE AREA, YOU KILL ANYTHING WITH MORE THAN TWO LEGS, YOU GET ME?!"
"WE GET YOU SIR!"
WE GET YOU SIR
WE GET YOU SIR
We get you sir!
I love how the MI combat formation is always "blob of joggers"
Helps when your enemy can eat a whole mag of armor-piercing ammo and then cut you in half like wet paper
Inexperienced troops will often tend to clump, and this is more excusable when the enemy's primary ground combat weapon is an angry bug with scythed limbs.
I suggest reading the Starship Trooper RPG and Miniature wargame books. These really give a lot of world-building for the Starship trooper movie lore.
Finding such archaic literature is difficult
Gosh, what a beautiful ship she is. I never really appreciated Starship Troopers for its ships, but that's starting to change.
0:35 . MAN that is a spooky and way too realistic way to see into reactionary and ultra conservative ideology. "All the good ideas have already been had, we never need to change, self reflect or challenge our notions. Ever."
This movie gets more fitting with each passing day, it's enough to send a shiver up the spine.
Another brainlet who thinks listening wisdom of old neans not thinking or adapting
Change is the law of life. The Federation is thus doomed.
I was going to complain how these are in no way *”corvettes”* but then realized the utter genius of it all. The US Navy should rename their new Ford Class Super Carriers “Petite Class Patrol Boats”.
I've started to suspect you're picking random topics in a challenge to see how bombastic you can manage to make it!
A starship trooper rts came out recently
@@Jack-jz4ls they're all over the place, so it could be both random or that correlation!
If those are "Corvettes"
What the hell do Cruisers, Destroyers and Capital Class ships look like :O
Even numbers, on the bounce!
Can we see the stories L
Only ten torp launchers? How the hell you gonna reduce an enemy planet to glowing slag and shattered hopes with THAT?
Remember: They badly misused those ships in the movies - they are supposed to be used for covert insertion of squads of seriously bad ass power armor troopers via drop pods and the shuttles are only supposed to be for post-op pick up. I don't think the director understood what a corvette is.
@@muninrob the director wasn't trying to accurately portray future military strategy
@@calebbarnhouse496 He was also obviously not trying to follow "Starship Troopers" - read the book sometime......
One of the coolest ships in science fiction. I've always liked this class of ships since childhood when I watched Starship Troopers.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE?!
YES NO
“Would you like to know more?”
Yessss!!!!
I like this telling of the redeeming parts of the movie with the assertive tone of the novel.
"On the bounce troopers".
I'm doing my part !
This has to of been made because of Starship Troopers: Terran Command coming out mid June
"A surprise to be sure but a welcome one." - The Senate probably
One of the best starship designs I've seen.
Love the quotes from the book used here.
I wish we could've seen some spin off of SST where they show them fighting other races in ship to ship battles while displaying other ship types
One of my top favorite designs from any franchise. With the stats listed here it could fill several roles including exploratory and colonization. Maybe even older retired ships would be retrofitted for civil cargo and passenger transport.
Oh man been loving the love Starship troopers has gotten lately

I watch the movie specifically for the scenes of the corvette transports getting shot at in space and limping back to base, only to be sent out again with battle scars.
It's cathartic, somehow.
Come on you apes, you want to watch Templin Institute videos forever!!!
Or armor, transport vehicles, infantry support vehicles, artillery, etc as well
The Star Trooper CGI ages well!!! The movie was made more than 20 years ago!
God, I love that movie. ❤️🙏🏼🌟
Thanks for the ship description.
I never knew until today what it looks like.
This video got me to look up the actual Rodger Young. Thank you.
Shed no tears for me, my glory lives forever!
you can see so much inspiration between UNSC tech and Federation tech.
I'm also a huge fan of the Valley Forge in the Roughnecks series, always loved that design.
The film that secured Michael Ironside as most badass soldier anyone would gladly serve with. Now let's go crush some bugs!
Well :D You can also see him as general Jack Granger of GDI in the Third Tiberium war :D
Ain't much to look at after you scrape them off your boot...
I'm glad you included the quote at the end. Would be good to see the institute investigate the book version of the federation and compare though
I feel like starship trooper is what 40k movie about IG and Tyranid be like.
One of the interesting facts is that the book has actually been on required reading lists, at both annapolis and West point., And for a certain amount of time on the commandant of the Marine corps recommended reading list for new officers
A lot of people may disagree with the social and political statements made in the book but from a leadership and tactics standpoint I can understand why senior leadership wanted new officers to read the book
Decades after being first published it still stands up as a classic, and the movie while a satire for the most part was dead on point in other areas
One of those rare science fiction movies you can both love and hate at the same time while watching it.... A definite guilty pleasure
The ship was also designed with internal corridors far larger than Humans needed, but conveniently high enough roofs for Bug Soldiers to charge through.
A welcome "upgrade" from the cramped layout of Human Navy ships.
One of my all-time favorite ship designs.
I would love to see someone do something on the events and politics of the book, rather than just the movie of this universe. For years I'd tell people "On the bounce!" And only a very few people got it. The jump jets in the book are something that no other sci-fi series has been able to copy!
I really wish the movies would have done proper cap trooper drops from the book.

Gotta say the special effects from the movie have held up well. I kinda wanted to see the droppod revolver though.
Rough times on planet P glad i, m still alive to tell the tale. 😉
Still have no idea how so many solders lost limbs before they even went to war against the bugs
@@bamaboy5746 I assumed there were so many with injuries because of all the training accidents or because of a previous coup atempt

@@bamaboy5746 ah makes sense now. Thanks for the insight

It seems bigger than what I'd expect a corvette to be
Thank you the English subtitle.
Thank You
Despite everything i've always liked their design.
I also remember a space game many years ago that put you at the controls of several ships that were obviously inspired in design by this movie but i cannot remember its name.
Great Video! Starship Troopers is the best fictional universe.
Hope we eventually get to see the power armor from the animated films!
