The one thing that SW media lacks is humanized stormtroopers. Like they were people too they had lives The Mandalorian showed this off in some places but I feel like they were always portrayed as programmed machines
I suspect that was on purpose: not for the sake of the real-life audience, but from an in-universe perspective. A uniform by design is meant to encourage conformity and group mentality; the less human that uniform makes the wearer appear, the more they disconnect themselves from their identity when wearing it. This is especially true of any design that conceals the face; at that point the person behind the mask can dissociate themselves completely from not just their sense of self, but the limits of their conscience that come with it, making them capable of acts of terrible violence and inhumanity that they might have questioned or resisted otherwise. I think it's exactly the sort of thing the Empire would do to its own troops.
Disney hates stormtroopers, they hate everything imperial. Dont expect any Imperials being more than stupid ass douches existing only for getting their asses kicked by the "good guys"
Hopefully with the addition of a live action Grand Admiral Thrawn and with Jon Faveru directing we'll get just that. I'm on book two of the Thrawn book trilogy and it's amazing. He is incredibly competent at his job and is single handily beating the new republic with just a handful of star destroyers. Also using information gathering, well planned battle strategy, and tactically placed agents. He's somehow better at using the rebellion's tactics against the empire and now using them against the new republic.

In the Legends continuity, one is captured by a smuggler and turned into a casino ship, the Errant Venture. She's also painted bright red to stand out from the Imperial Remnant/Warlord/New Republic Star Destroyers.
In Legends the Chimaera the flagship of both admiral Thrawn & Gilad Pellaeon survived the war & served the imperial remnant for decades afterward.. So it’s a safe bet that eventually it would be made into museum ship on the Imperial Capital of Bastion.. Can’t imagine a more notable ship for future imperials to fill them full of patriotism..
Most continued to serve for decades, in Legends its service lasted more than 60 years. The Imperial Star Destroyer was perhaps the most successful design in Star Wars history. There are some ships that survived a millennium such as the Invincible-class Dreadnought but only because of a complete disinterest in military advancement with almost no new designs being adopted and the almost total dissolution of a centralized military. The ISD survived as an active war vessel to be refit and brought up to standard through continuous conflict and combat. The ISD design was still used, though largely replaced by then, during the Sith-Imperial War and Second Imperial Civil War, over 150 years after the Battle of Yavin. It is almost certain several ISDs remained as museum pieces for the Fel Empire's reverence, symbols that were kept in the home fleet over Bastion, such as the Executrix, the first ISD developed with its first captain being Moff Tarkin, the earlier mentioned Chimaera, a flagship that had been captained by three different heads of the Imperial state and involved in more significant battles than perhaps any individual ship in Star Wars history, and likely there would be others though I'm not thinking of any surviving ones right now.
@@josesanchezrodriguez1783 Yes, it was still being used long after its introduction, and it was a highly successful design, but not as much as the Imperial Star Destroyer. Its mainline service and production lasted at least 60 years but the overall extended use goes into the 150+ years of service.
I really feel bad for the Disney ImpStars. Cast off and forgotten. In Star Wars Legends, the ISD carried on in service with her former enemies, the New Republic and later with the Galactic Alliance. A much better legacy to one of the most iconic starship classes in science fiction
Same with the Imperial Military. The old EU had the Empire fall in such a smart way, it fracturing the the New Republic slowing picking off Warlords, allying with other Warlords, etc... instead of the Empire suddenly being beaten in a stand up fight a year after Endor...
Militarily and tactically speaking, that makes sense. Why scrap perfectly good warships? Even the Empire put a few Republic- era Venerators to work in the early years as we saw at the end of Revenge of the Sith.
Y'all don't see how the scrapping and derelict Imp navy and military reflects the real world situation post ww2. The huge upkeep could not be maintained so they got scrapped. Asks where the mothball fleet ended up during the 50s and 60s... how many of the "great ships" and lesser extent other materials besides the 50 cal, m1911, and smaller munitions were carried over from the major conflicts? Imp stars weren't 'Disney-fied' ... they were 'Realitied'.. it's highly unlikely that they would've continued to serve effectively beyond the end of Jakku. It's like giving Nam Era fighting troops a Warspite type dreadnought instead of a missile cruiser.
In my star wars table top campaign there is a small imperial holdout in the frontier that has "Defiance" class space station that is basicly 12 of them rigged togeather with a Old mothballed luckerhulk sphere at its Center. Every other ISD has its engines removed and a loading dock/bay has been retrofitted in.
The angular wedge shape of the Star Destroyers is the single most prominent feature. This feature did great justice to the Empire's tendencies to favor an aggressive offense strategy allowing devastating single frontal salvos if positioned correctly after coming out of a lightspeed jump.
11:05 In the EU there is one ISD that was conquered and then converted into what is compared to a flying Las Vegas by a ex-smuggler as a retirement job. The Errant Venture was also the most recognizable ISD due to the fact that it's owner, Booster Terrik, painted it red.

So many people don't seem to realize that the design of a star destroyer allows the entire firepower of the ship to be focused on a single target. It is certainly capable of firing in numerous directions, however if it points it's nose at a target, it can open fire with it's full compliment of weapons, which in the true lore, legends, is very apparent. No other capital class ship was so effective at destroying other capital ships.
Remember, then you have the Super Star Destroyer. The imperial and Super class WERE the flag ships and forward, err bases. They also did still use the Vendeta and Vigilence. Vader was usually on a Super one. Like the one that crashed into the Death Star.
When you were talking about the Xyston, I think "Final Order" or "Sith Eternal" would've been more accurate than First Order. Probably nitpicky but just my opinion.

As everything based in reality - worked superbly. Just like Bismarck, these are useless, resource consuming and absolutely frightening, imposing and great looking, iconic at the same time. Also, one that probably has best in history screen entry/reveal in all time in "New Hope".
Fun fact : The smallest Corpus Capitalship the Stanchion is about 3,5 Km long making it larger than a Imperial class Star destroyer but Smaller than a Grineer Galleon which is about 4,8 Km
I do like how the clone wars ships often are indeed the predecessors of the later ones. Like you can really see how the T-65 X-wing is Intel's attempt to combine the dogfighting ability, range and ease of use of the Z-95 with the firepower, armor and versatility of the Arc-170.
I always find it funny how in the movies, the ships in the clones wares made much more practical sense than most of the imperial star destroyers. The ISD is still probably the single most influential ship design in all of sci-fi, but it's unfortunate how little sense it makes for space combat. Still love it and would never replace it for anything XD
@@papapalps2415 not exactly sure where did you get the raging hard on idea from, since if anything, my hard on is for the ISD. But yeah, imo the Venator and Lucrehulk embrace the role of a carrier far better (even though the turbo laser batteries on the Venator are as silly as on the ISD), while the munificent works well as a long range gunship. I do have a soft spot for the providence but it reminds me of an 18th century ship of the line rather than a good scifi design. However its small profile is rather good to see on a capital ship. The main issue with the ISD is that it needs to be too many scifi things at once while being more or less inspired by 20th century naval ships. Like the bridge for example. Why on earth does it need such a huge glaring weak point? At least the Resurgent managed to make to design more streamlined. As the video eluded to several times, the confrontations that the ISD was supposedly designed for rarely happened, which means that more often than not it found itself handicapped in the hit and run fighter engagements because even though the fighter complement was kinda high enough, the hanger design meant that they launched only a few at a time, or needed to way a bit to launch enough fighters. I'm not saying that prequel ships are perfect (far from it) but it seems at least to me that the role they were designed for is fulfilled well
@@darthcalanil5333 when terrorists have plot armour, their enemies are always dumb and impotent at everything they do... Genius move, Lucas/s.
👍 At least a excellent comment NOT about the techs of ISD but what they are made for, how the are mean to be used to and also it logic place inside a sometime-illogical-universe. It's a very good strategic and historical view of the Star destroyers. Do not fear them for they are BIG, Fear them for what they represent : a mobile military base. -In terms of battle, I understand more why they are so under-armed and weak; It's not their role. -In terms of wars, they are a mobile fortress of operation NOT a battleship NOT a warship. Thks for casting all of these new lights.
I always found it strange that the New Republic chose to dismantle most of their captured ISDs. Yeah, they're symbols of the Empire and the overall terror that was imposed under their reign, but they were probably some of the most effective warships the galaxy had seen prior to the development of the Resurgence-class, especially if they were put into fleets with Mon Cal designs that could cover for their weaknesses.
I think it’s because the NR simply couldn’t afford a massive fleet of ISDs, given that the collapse of the Empire likely led to the largest economic crisis in galactic history due to the effects of the GCW and the continued runaway military spending of the GE after the end of the Clone Wars.
Such a shame for such a great vessel to think in the end they likely end up as scrap or surplus forgotten. If only they were used by a decent government or leaders. Imagine what they could still accomplish. Secretly grabs about 12 of them. >:D For museum use I swear... Now to find and grab some victory's
Im glad the original loadout of 60 turbolasers and 60 ion cannons carried over. Not that we ever actually SAW them up close and personal of course, just those big broadsiders...I always figured they were scattered across the hull in individual turrets. But the designs for them make them seem enormous...ahh, inconsitencies.
I still think it was a major mistep to not have the ISD-1 fleet on Exegol be refitted, modernized ISD-1's instead of a whole new ship. Would explain how the empire fell, and this massive fleet.
Everyone knows how powerful the star destroyer imperial is. It is almost impossible to beat this ship in realistic battles. Therefore, the filmmakers deliberately reduced its true effectiveness several times to allow the rebels to fight. The star destroyer imperial was too powerful. with a size of 1 mile It will have enough firepower to easily handle up to 1,000 rebel warships simultaneously in realistic combat based on a sensible modern weapon system. To make the star destroyer imperial float in the atmosphere so softly. The engine would have to generate as much energy as a nuclear warhead every second to allow such a massive object to float softly. Because antigravity systems need to produce magnetic fields so powerful they can fight the magnetic fields of entire planets. That means the star destroyer imperial can blow an entire rebel army with a single shot if this is a reasonable battle. The Star Destroyer Empire was underestimated. The things that the movies do are illogical. The villains are always defeated by surprises. When pleasing the audience is more important than the realism of the movie lol
Can't think of a perfect way to launch Arsenal than the defining symbol of the Empire. We really need to see more Arsenal videos on Star Wars - the Death Star, X-Wing vs TIE Fighter, Millennium Falcon, etc. Meanwhile, we're just waiting for the inevitable updated video on the First Order.
Couple nitpicks: 1)The ISD was designed DURING the Clone Wars, as a generalist complement for the more specialized existing Star Destroyer designs and potentially a flagship, based on the Tector hull that PRECEDED it (being first deployed in the early days of the war). 2)The Victory-class was a specialist design for support in planetary invasion first deployed halfway during the war. The Victory II came out in the last months as a ship of the line, but was found inadequate once the Empire came into power.
The greates weakness of the Empire was it's insistence on fighting conventional warfare. No ships could've matched the Imperial Navy, not even close, but hit and run tactics carried out by a few fighters, a war of attrition, was not something the Empire was prepared for, and by the time it shifted its production to counter these Rebel tactics, like with the TIE Interceptor, Lancer Frigate and the like, it was already too late.
@@AKUJIVALDO The Rebels were freedom fighters, not terrorists. Their success was partially based on the US War of Independence and the much later Vietcong. However, governments not supported by the people have fallen to guerillas, just not powerful ones.
until you realize even one planet in the galaxy can have trillions of people living in them. the first death star have millions as crew but the loss didn't exactly deter the empire

The one thing that SW media lacks is humanized stormtroopers. Like they were people too they had lives The Mandalorian showed this off in some places but I feel like they were always portrayed as programmed machines
A lot of books both in legends and canon potray them properly.
One part of me agrees with you and another likes the simplicity of having 2 dimensional 'bad guys'.
Disney hates stormtroopers, they hate everything imperial. Dont expect any Imperials being more than stupid ass douches existing only for getting their asses kicked by the "good guys"
Bullet Magnets.... Sry, Blaster , er ... Um. Yea, Bullet Magnets, Lol
I'd like to see a pro-imperial series or a movie where they're not shown as incompetent idiots.
Yes I agree so sick of those rebel terrorists keep getting billion to one longshot victories like taking out 2 ISDs with a space dingy
The Star Wars: Squadrons campaign is probably the closest thing to that.

Yay someone gave a big shout out to the often forgotten Victory Class Star Destroyer - the long forgotten forbearer of the ISD itself
I wonder if there are any Imperial Star Destroyer Museum Ships like the USS Texes.
@@pubcle What about the Dreadnaught-Class cruisers? I belive they were still being used 90 years after they were introduced.

Well done Templin. Long live the Empire.
Templin Institute meets Spacedock? Love it!
My thoughts exactly
I love your current narrator voice, guys. It's so imposing yet satisfying to listen to. Every Templin video is like an ASMR experience or something.
In Legends, Lando Calrissian bought a disarmed Star Destroyer, painted it red, and turned it into a hotel and casino resort.
Lmfao that’s pretty cool tbh
It was Booster Terrik who bought the Star Destroyer, not Lando.
As far as I know he did not rly buy it. The star destroyer surrendered to him
The angular wedge shape of the Star Destroyers is the single most prominent feature. This feature did great justice to the Empire's tendencies to favor an aggressive offense strategy allowing devastating single frontal salvos if positioned correctly after coming out of a lightspeed jump.
Loved this.

Just an iconic symbol of the genre, I'm surprised it took you this long to cover it!
11:05 In the EU there is one ISD that was conquered and then converted into what is compared to a flying Las Vegas by a ex-smuggler as a retirement job. The Errant Venture was also the most recognizable ISD due to the fact that it's owner, Booster Terrik, painted it red.

@@thatguy3222 failure to deliver intended content.
If you followed SpaceDock, you will note that he had plans similar to Arsenal and Profiles, but outside of the first episode and perhaps a few others, he never continued that series.
As his attention was diverted to his own project, he could not continue his SpaceDock channel with regularity and so it's video releases are few and far between.
Recently he did do a few episodes in short order, the Delta Flyer and one more in a short time frame, but his primary focus is on his own upcoming series as it should be.
Again, not criticizing SpaceDock for his change in priorities, just pointing out that due to this, other initiatives had to necessarily fall by the wayside.

The Star Destroyer is the definitive space warship. Nothing will ever be more iconic.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video!
Honestly, what better place to start than an icon?
Seems crazy that all these ship were designed and built in mass over only 18-20 years!

You should honestly take a look at the Honorverse. As a sci-fi setting it has some of the more interesting ships and weapons.
Loving fleet week!!
Please do the Dreadnaught class at some point, the most stubborn warship in Star Wars.
I rly hope you will also cover a Ship of the Imperial Navy of Warhammer 40k Like the Emperor Class for example.
Good new direction.
4:09 - Prow mounted Navigational Deflector? What is this, _Star Trek?_
Couple nitpicks:
1)The ISD was designed DURING the Clone Wars, as a generalist complement for the more specialized existing Star Destroyer designs and potentially a flagship, based on the Tector hull that PRECEDED it (being first deployed in the early days of the war).
2)The Victory-class was a specialist design for support in planetary invasion first deployed halfway during the war. The Victory II came out in the last months as a ship of the line, but was found inadequate once the Empire came into power.
Totally OT, but I just noticed that the Templin Institute sells rank and titles in a similar fashion to many of Earth's old empires...
Awesome work...keep it up

Nice! Top quality video as ever. You should do TIE fighter segment in the future :)

One of my favorite ships!
Terrorists had plot armour. None government entities with huge military felt to tiny number of terrorists, ever.
@@AKUJIVALDO The Rebels were freedom fighters, not terrorists. Their success was partially based on the US War of Independence and the much later Vietcong. However, governments not supported by the people have fallen to guerillas, just not powerful ones.
