It was noted, that the Covenant usually had space and air superority due to the technological advantage. Once they hit the ground however, the Covenant would suffer casualties to fierce resistance to UNSC soldiers. Enough so that the Elites would begin to question the actions of the Prophets and indeed began to respect human soldiers that fought back so aggressively. Of course human resistance resulted in the end of whole worlds being glassed if they couldn't be conquered. I can only imagine this was usually because they encountered UNSC Army already on the ground. .

It's definitely a neat part of the lore, yeah ground battles were generally 50/50 (covenant had some slight advantages), but the UNSC "won" many ground battles. The problem was that the covenant had an insane advantage in space. Their slipspace drives were more accurate, and their ships faster, meaning they could just fly in circles around the UNSC. Once in combat, their shields rendered them nearly unkillable. When planning space battles, the UNSC basically assumed they were going to lose unless they outnumbered the covenant 10-1, pretty much.

Very rarely did Elites ever question the Prophets for not including humanity in the Covenant, considering that humans were declared heretics and enemies of the Great Journey early on in the war.

@@gamerdude1246at the start yes but as the war dragged on more elites questioned why Humanity wasn't included into the Covenant. They saw many humans give their lives to hold back the Covenant to buy time for the civilians and their comrades to flee knowing they would die in the process. The geun rebellion, the taming of the hunters, the war beti the elites and the profits all was forgiven so why not the humans. Not all not most but some elites questioned the orders and even recognized the humans a honourable a feat not often given to other species by the elites.

The naval disparity was only 3 to 1, but the groundside disparity was almost 50/50, pound for pound, same number of troops and vehicles in a battle, the UNSC curbstomps 9/10, problem was, ground forces were always heavily outnumbered, and even then the Army and by extension Marines kicked so much ass that Covie ground forces a lot of the times just ran to their navy for help.

It seems like the Halo writers fell into the midwit misconception that "Marines = Offense, Army = Defense". Realistically, relegating the majority of your armed forces to garrison duty is a recipe for strategic failure. Not a single major war in Human history has seen a nation's military confine its army, the main ground force, at home because of some arbitrary rule that only "marines" are allowed to step foot on naval vessels.
Perhaps the UNSC Navy didn't have the shipping capacity during the Human Covenant War to conduct operations large enough to necessitate Army forces (post-Halo 3 lore has no excuse though), but even then, as gargantuan as the UNSC is, the Army could theoretically just finance a fleet of their own.

The UNSC Army is one of the most maligned services in Halo because of the weird focus into the marines and Spartans (which are Navy/Marines aling with the ODST's) it makes no sense how ill equipped and dumb down they have the Army. The Army would not be some sidekick to any other service it would be a cutting edge and highly trained force equipped for the 26th Century (Why are they still equipped like the 21st Century in the 26th Century) The Army would have had its own "Super Soldier" program for starters it would have invested into it's own power armor, i mean duh, who who have need PA more that the Infantryman?! They should have been the first ones to have either a PE system ( reference COD: Advance Warfare and Infinite Warfare Infantry equipment) and all Army personnel would be augmented to some degree with elite units getting more upgraded augmentations and Powered Exoskeletons and Powered Armor would be the standard not the exception and what happened to their elite Spec Ops you really believe that they would be on the sidelines waiting for Spartans to show up and save them, gtfooh! Thats just stupid, Army Spec Ops would be one some if the most lethal and best equipped SOF's in the UNSC and why would Army personnel want to be an ODST when they have Airborne and Rangers who ODST'S are modeled from, both the Rangers and Air borne can perform those same ops as ODST's i mean what do you think a 26th Century version of Airborne and Rangers would look like!? What separates the ODST'S from the Rangers and Airborne are not exotic augmentations and training, but a simple drop pod that allows them to enter the atmosphere from orbit, again what do you think a 26th Century Airborne and Ranger force would look like (equipment wise) also the Army would not be a defensive force while the Marines secure a planet for them, lol what nut came up with that, first the Army have full Expeditionary capabilities that allows them to respond rapidly, hint hint, Airborne and Rangers, also in the 26th Century the Army would have their equivalent of space Colonies as "Space Forts" for forward power projection and regional security/support (In the movie Elysium you see as an example with that colony, just arm it to the max and place Army and Air Force on it) and different regions would dictate each ones size and they would have the Air and Space Force as their rides (really the Airforce would be the premier capital ship user not no Navy, its freaking space,no water, lol and who have jurisdiction in space, yeap, the Air and Space Force,so they would also have capital ships along with support ships, just not in the nimbers as the Navy nor in the overall tonnage, the Airforce vessels would be built based on their ops , streamlined lethal stealthy (across the board) advance with an edge above and beyond the Navy (Just like today the 26th Century Airforce will pride itself on being cutting edge) so tgey will have carriers because of transporting army aviation assets and Airforce assets but large number of troops and equipment as well instead of cruisers destroyers etcetera they would have Assault Transports built from conception to engage both planetary and space enemies (btw the Airforce will use DEW's morseo than mac's, why because less weight on one hand and this fun tidbit, how can you create a Spartan laser but no ship borne laser for ship to ship combat, i believe to create smaller weapons is harder than creating bigger systems because of miniaturization of the weapon especially power source) youvthe Army and Airforce will still have that symbiotic relationship found currently it would just be the 26th Century version of that. Funny thing an Army Colonel created the S3's but never shared that with the Army, again makes no sense! Just saying 343 need to stop the backwardness of down playing the Army and the Airforce and start creating content that represents what those services will look like in a 26th century environment and its not what they show us currently!!!! Btw imagine realistically a 26th Century delta force Green berets and Rangers, the Army will not relinquish those capabilities for no reason, probably will merge all into one unit, for Example a Ranger Corps with different levels of operability, all called Rangers but at different tiers with tier 3 being traditional Rangers tier 2 "Green Beret" type and tier one Delta type

    • @astrosherlock374

My favourite thing about the Halo universe is that humanity fought with everything it had we were at a technological disadvantage it would take 5 of our ships to destroy one of theirs, they wiped all human life where ever they found it, glassing worlds some to the point of once planets teeming with life are now uninhabitable a crime in itself. And yet humanity held the line no matter the cost, because going out with a whisper isn’t what our species will do

(press F to salute the UNSC Army)
I wish we could see more of the UNSC Army in Halo.
Anyway, you should do the UNSC Air Force, UNSC Marines, and the Spartan Programs soon.

Just curious. What source material did you use? As the navy operates in space and the marines and ODST (which are the infantry in space and on the ground) are all I've ever seen or heard about. I'm not a halo guru, I'm just curious?

The Army are the predominant forces you fight alongside in Halo: Reach. They appear sporadically in the novels, and got some spotlight in the various Encyclopedias and Visual Guides.
The ODSTs are only the black-armoured troops you fight alongside in H2/3 (and of course, the game ODST). They're the special forces/shock troops of the UNSC's Marine Corps; all ODSTs are Marines, but not all Marines are ODSTs.

ODSTS and the Military police looked so cool in halo 3.
