@@TenebrusI07 as much as I love the Banished, in all honesty I think they were written into Infinite mainly because of the poor reception and execution of the Prometheans/Rogue AIs. @@TenebrusI07 Yeah I totally agree. And where did the Banished get the time, resources, and personnel to make a whole fleet of a brand new massive ship class?? Really feels like they’re just artificially inflating the Banished to make them a bigger threat than they realistically were. They aren’t a new Covenant, they’re smaller, but more efficient and yet in Infinite here they are with a brand new fleet, like the losses they took in Halo Wars 2 didn’t even matter. Not only that, but even with the hits Infinity took, it’s surface is ridden with thousands of missile pods, Mass drivers, etc. and it has its frigates inside, and we don’t even see it destroying one of the Banished ships. Just a complete deflation of the ship’s awesome power for plot reasons…so we can be on the back foot, as if having to fight a fleet of Guardians didn’t already put us there.
The Infinity, even if it diverged from the classic artstyle, is one of the most iconic ships in Halo. I hope it, or at least it's ship class, remains long into Halo's future.
It's literally been around for like 9 years, almost half of the franchise's lifespan. Of course, the Spirit of fire has been around longer, but it's made less appearances in recently years compared to Infinity. It sure is an iconic ship.
Even tho many people hate the Infinity because of Halof 4 and 5, personally i cant get enough of her. And when Lasky becomes Captain it also has a cool Commander
Since the Infinity is pretty much taken out of commission by the banished, I do hope at some point we get to see her sister ship, the Eternity, finally get completed and come to the Infinity's aid.
Well, that seems like it was the objective, except instead of 'new life and possibilities' it was trying to find the hell away from a drastically superior enemy that wants you extinct. The whole 'warship' label seems like it was applied after-the-fact, mostly so the UNSC wouldn't have to explain to the people it had been telling that we were definitely not losing the war that it had built an evacuation ship in complete secret. Expensive, but cheaper than a full-scale revolution from angry civilians.
The Infinity is damned impressive. When looking at the fleet of the UNSC, I can't help but think of them as possible more advanced ships that the Earth Force from Babylon 5 might field in a few centuries. Their ships have a similar design aesthetic, but much more refined than the Earth Force navy.
B5 and Halo's human spaceship aesthetics are similar 'cos they use a trope called: "Standard human spaceship" which basically is brick in space. Angular, usually gray or olive green. Great quote from Ranger Dulann from B5: "If human military designers had their way, every colour of the spectrum would be removed except for grey, green and black and we would all live in windowless boxes."
The infinity was such as uninspired name for this ship, the lore says it was originally conceived as humanity's ark if Earth was lost, I like the name "Pale Blue Dot" or "Vagi Terra" which is latin for wandering Earth.
Something I’ve always loved about the halo that almost no other sci fi franchise has is how plausible and realistic human technology is. Like the game feels like how humans would actually be 500 years from now
Anyone else get goosebumps when he talks about Infinity's motto? "To Dare is to Do." When we work together, there's nothing we can't accomplish. Maybe someday we'll have a starship like the Infinity in real life.
The failure to mention the ship's AI is a major oversight. In a lore filled with sexy blue glowing girls, the acerbic orange WWII fighter pilot stands out.
Please do a video on the Spirit of Fire for this series! I absolutely love Halo Wars (1&2), and I think the Spirit of Fire and its crew doesn't get the recognition that it should. Your videos are incredible, and I'm excited to see what you do next!
UNSC Infinity: Peak of humanity with Forerunner tech,, able to ram Covenant Ships with no problems, has frigates in dock, able to fight off the Didact's Cryptum, able to outrun the Guardians, able to avoid the most advanced AI who has full access to the Forerunner Domain and thus all their tech. Halo Infinite plot: yeah, no, you go down in 4 minutes. Me: WTF??????
The UNSC Infinity is probably the best spaceship ever designed. It was made by the United Nations, so it's kinda the reflex of a true unified mankind, it's both a scientific and military vessel, it's an incomparable military power by herself. I just love this ship.
The problem with having antennas, poles, or whatever sticking out from the ship, specially the front, is that when you hit something like was shown in the video is that they will be broken off like twigs if the shields let even the smallest of debris through at the right place.
I get that 343 wanted to spark things up but I hate how the Infinity just went out like that. And the fact that humans sent their best weapon out on exploration and didn’t make any backups to stay home by earth in case of emergency… also I’m surprised the ship didn’t have any plasma weapons
i always appreciate that no UNSC ships ever seem to be impressed by bellyflopping at terminal velocity, pillar of autumn was nearly intact and the infinity, barring some bruises, could still take on AND withstand a full on assault after crashing.
Honestly the infinity could probably throw hands with larger Star destroyers and win like the SSD though it will have a though time once that SSD shields breaks the infinity will triumph with its Mac’s as long as they stay out of range of the turbo lasers if those criteria are met then the infinity could win
Halo 4 and (definitely) 5 may not have very good stories, but they did give us the beauty that is the Infinity (and the only ship in the mainline games to survive more than one game).
As far as I know, according to Halo Warfleet, modules and sections that is intended for the construction of the Eternity was used to refit Infinity instead. Sounds to me like the Eternity isnt even done.
"Welcome, what can we do for you?" "I want some money to build a super carrier." "Alright, let's see. Over five kilometers long, over seven thousand souls, enough firepower to level a planet, very nice, very nice. Spartan facilites, training grounds and even bio-dome, fancy, really fancy." "Yes, well, it is also a live boat for humanity, if the Covenant actually destroyed earth." "Ah, of course, of course. That explains the new armor and energy shilds, and even a Forerunner engien, twenty years to build, oh my. Well, seems like that should be enough to get humanity to a safe place, start to rebuild, and it is gone." ". . . wait, what?" "The ship. It's gone." "But . . . how?" "I have to ask you to make room for people who can afford a loan for new ship, sir." *Later* "Hello good sir, what can I do for you?" "One noun: Deathstar."
Pity they nerf the absolute shit out of the Infinity in halo: infinite, the banished blew it up in a few seconds. It went from ramming continent ships for fun, and being powerful enough to damage the Mantles approach, to being taken down by a bunch of Mad max banished... Its shields appeared to be useless as it sat there dyeing , it has put me off buying the game.
Yeah it's very annoying that 343 has basically neutered the Infinity because they didn't have an intelligent enough writer who loved and appreciated the game like we do.
So here's something that I remember thinking the first time I heard about this ship. Is it really a good idea to have internal docking bays big enough to carry entire frigates? Like that space could be used for additional weapons, defenses, or just cut off to reduce the mass and targeting profile ship. The only real advantage to docking such large vessels within an even larger one that I can think of is the aforementioned usage of a more precise Drive. But wouldn't it work just as well to dock them externally and save the space? This means additionally if the ship takes damage to the hangers it doesn't block the ships from deploying. And that's not pointing out the fact that we know small ships can go through the slipspace portals of larger ships like in halo 2.
To be fair, that scene in H2 might not be the best example. The In-Amber-Clad wasn't exactly in fighting shape when it came out the other end. However, multiple Covenant ships followed the Mantle's Approach and seemed to be alright coming out the other end in H4.
@@khadenallast4495 yeah, that's why I kinda just tacked it on as an aside. Makes me wonder if you could design a drive specifically to take along other ships
having large internal hangers would allow you to dry dock a ship and repair it while away from port, and seeing how Infinity was originally a Ark it make sense to have. those hangers would also allow Infinity to carry a large amount of cargo should it have to. now if you are building a dedicated warship I would use the the space for weapons and the like, but sense Infinity is a refitted Ark ship it is fine to have them.
I suspect they might have been a side effect of having to build the damned beast. If I had to build it, and I had no shipyard(large enough) to work with. I'd set up the docking bay scaffolding first, that way you could use up to six? Frigates at once to ferry supplies in and just build it around the frigates. That way you can use those frigates power supplies and facilities aswell while the main ships stuff isn't online yet.
Let me just talk about the sheer SHOCK value 343i was going for when they showed the UNSC Infinity drop out of slipspace. HOLY FUCK did they set that up well. Throw in a few "Small" ships that we would recognize from Reach flying past a much larger ship... Then have the Infinity fucking DWARF it and smash it into pieces. That is definitely one method of providing scale to a large object. Frame of reference for those of us in the know, Add a second frame, THEN bring in the big MOFO and have it smash stuff.
Imagine if the aincient humans that could go toe to toe with the forerunners back in the day before they were forced to restart fought the bannished I gaurintine it would be much more of a fight

It wasn't a supercarrier, those things are 27 kilometers long--5 times Infinity's size. It was a cruiser. But agreed, still very cathartic.
@@disayle68 Mega-rare too, the one at Reach was one of like only 5 ever built I think
@@disayle68
It’s canon that the Infinity can go up against a supercarrier alone, just not with its accompanying fleet.
One big, mean, Covenant-crushing marvel of engineering! Didn't know the ship had a motto, but damn is that a good motto for such a wonderful ship!
All UNSC ships have mottos. Most of them are awesome Latin ones.
The Spirit of Fires is “Ex Acta Probat” for example. “The Ends Justify The Means”
It broke my heart to see the Infinity destroyed in Infinite. I loved that ship to pieces.
She wasn't with us long comparatively, but that little lady sure knew how to dance!
Lore wise it's pretty stupid. Atriox's remnants destroyed it when the severely outdated spirit of fire was giving atriox himself a hard time. It survived requiem, the didact and his composer all using what should be vastly superior tech than what the banished have. It's retconning at it's ugliest. The Infinity is the ultimate UNSC ship and is an amalgamation of forerunner tech and the best humanity has to offer, and is rekt by some overgrown monkeys using junkyard scraps in 2 minutes.
@@TenebrusI07 as much as I love the Banished, in all honesty I think they were written into Infinite mainly because of the poor reception and execution of the Prometheans/Rogue AIs. I guess if I had to try to force an explanation, the Spirit of Fire had a relative element of surprise, plus it was only against one carrier. When the Infinity is overtaken, it looks like an ambush by multiple ships.
@@TheRogueCommand Yep definitely feels like they want to retconn the last 2 games and basically handwaved it all away. Just wish it got a better explanation than some very hard to believe offscreen bullshit.
Hope we can see the UNSC Eternity in a near future halo game
Everyone seems to keep forgetting that Earth is under the control of rebellious AIs.
If the Eternity is ever made, it might be against Humanity...

Legend has it that seeing the ship in action, even Rtas 'Vadum remarked "I wouldn't want to face that monster".
The Pillar Of Autum will always be my favorite ship for nostalgia reasons but I love the Infinity
Infinity is such a cool ship, 343 has gotten flak for their art designs but I think they got the ships down pat especially with Infinity.
I'm a Star Trek ship guy, but Infinity is in my top 3 Sci-fi ships of all time for sure.
I live these technical breakdowns for ships that are always destroyed or captured by the enemy
"This is the culmination of human technology"
"Lets go Halo Hunting" - Laskey probably
/stolen covenant and forerunner tech
"The majesty of our new fleet will be unparalleled"
"Yeah, well now it's scattered all over the savannah."
@@Dark_Fusion19 Halo Infinite be like,
Even tho many people hate the Infinity because of Halof 4 and 5, personally i cant get enough of her. And when Lasky becomes Captain it also has a cool Commander
Since the Infinity is pretty much taken out of commission by the banished, I do hope at some point we get to see her sister ship, the Eternity, finally get completed and come to the Infinity's aid.
Nice overview of the unsc "ubership". Think you coud do more post-war ships like the autumn class?
You should do the spirit of fire as the next UNSC entry
My favorite HALO ship.
Sounds similar in mission and capabilities to a Starfleet Galaxy-class or Sovereign-class, but on an even larger scale.
And as a landing craft. And as a battleship.
0:14 personally I would classify it as a “Mega-carrier” denoting its immense size difference, relative to a typical “fleet carrier”
One of my MOST ABSOLUTE favorite ships in the Halo series, no question about it!!!!!
I MOST DEFINITELY liked and enjoyed watching this
Buzz Lightyear: *"TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!"*
The Infinity is damned impressive. When looking at the fleet of the UNSC, I can't help but think of them as possible more advanced ships that the Earth Force from Babylon 5 might field in a few centuries. Their ships have a similar design aesthetic, but much more refined than the Earth Force navy.
this ship is nearly the size of B5, and possibly greater mass. it could probably one-shot an omega...
B5 and Halo's human spaceship aesthetics are similar 'cos they use a trope called: "Standard human spaceship" which basically is brick in space. Angular, usually gray or olive green.
Great quote from Ranger Dulann from B5:
"If human military designers had their way, every colour of the spectrum would be removed except for grey, green and black and we would all live in windowless boxes."
My favorite ship in the entire Halo franchise, and one of the favorites in any sci-fi ever rn.
And yet it took only 4 minutes for the Banished to completely annihilate the Infinity.
After they just got their shit rocked by the old ass Spirit of Fire. 🤣 343’s writers haven’t even read their own narrative.
How can it look so cool while being an even more simple Design then most other UNSC ships
Elegance is the best possible virtue in aesthetic design, at least IMHO.
Maybe someday we'll have a starship like the Infinity in real life.
ah this video aged about as gracefully as the infinity did
The failure to mention the ship's AI is a major oversight. In a lore filled with sexy blue glowing girls, the acerbic orange WWII fighter pilot stands out.
Roland even flat out refused to rebel, and its believed he even allowed himself to be deactivated just in case.
A minute of silence for the fall of the infinity and an end so unworthy for the ship what had to serve as "noah's ark" against the covenat
343 just LOVE killing things off without a proper fight...
And then they blew it up. Off screen.
I'm not mad, you're mad.
Absolute crime what 343 just did to her.
When the number of weapons, including the launch bays, ranges into the HUNDREDS, you no longer have a 'ship' you have a military base that moves.
a destroyed military base that doesn't move now
@@sornevoyt "destroyed in 4 minutes" 🙄 thanks halo 6

Yeah. Thanks halo 6
Less than a day before the release of Halo Infinite. What a coincidence.
"Now Humanity is hiding from giants once again.."
The problem with having antennas, poles, or whatever sticking out from the ship, specially the front, is that when you hit something like was shown in the video is that they will be broken off like twigs if the shields let even the smallest of debris through at the right place.
A better classification of the Infinity is a Battle Carrier.
I get that 343 wanted to spark things up but I hate how the Infinity just went out like that. And the fact that humans sent their best weapon out on exploration and didn’t make any backups to stay home by earth in case of emergency… also I’m surprised the ship didn’t have any plasma weapons
“Do you want to know how long it took? Four minutes. It took us four minutes to destroy your greatest ship.”
Which is ridiculous.
i always appreciate that no UNSC ships ever seem to be impressed by bellyflopping at terminal velocity, pillar of autumn was nearly intact and the infinity, barring some bruises, could still take on AND withstand a full on assault after crashing.
The UNSC Infinity is just a badass star/warship.
Honestly the infinity could probably throw hands with larger Star destroyers and win like the SSD though it will have a though time once that SSD shields breaks the infinity will triumph with its Mac’s as long as they stay out of range of the turbo lasers if those criteria are met then the infinity could win
Don’t forget Spartan boarding teams if need be
Halo 4 and (definitely) 5 may not have very good stories, but they did give us the beauty that is the Infinity (and the only ship in the mainline games to survive more than one game).
Technically some ships existed before the game
And the shadow of intent?
Halo 4 had a good story, just bad gameplay.
Halo 5 had a bad story, just good gameplay.
Hopefully that means we can get the Eternity on the field now.
Not for while since Cortana still rampaging in the orion arms
The Infinity is a nice ship. Be a real shame if something were to
Happen to it.
the UNSC just got extremely lucky against the covenant they was outclassed in every way but ground combat
I still don't understand how the banished could even fight this ship let alone beat it.
They apparently just kept ramming it with kamakazi vessels.
Still makes me wonder, the Infinity is gone but her sister is still out there. The UNSC Eternity. Wonder if we'll see her in time.
As far as I know, according to Halo Warfleet, modules and sections that is intended for the construction of the Eternity was used to refit Infinity instead. Sounds to me like the Eternity isnt even done.
Me, who've has seen the opening cutscene in Halo Infinite: Uh.
Sad. We dont know if its just downed. Plus theres always Eternity.

I wasn't a fan of it's design, then it grew on me, now it seems the infinity's days are number from the what the trailers show...RIP Infinity
Then it goes down in Infinite without much of a explanation at all except being boarded and rammed by two ships at once
@@8vantor8 that is a really solid point, consider me sold.
Favorite Halo ship!

UNSC infinity was so good 343 had to nerf it in Halo: Infinite to give the banished a chance
A shame that UNSC Eternity never made it of dock during the Created uprising.

"I absolutely love this ship"- Everyone.
The infinity sums up the Halo series quite well: A massive overcompensation to cover for the fact that normally, there's nothing there.
And then it lasted a whopping 4 minutes in its final battle...
There really wasn’t even that much of a battle. Just a fist fight onboard and then 343 sweeping the most powerful ship in human history under the rug.
The Banished: COWABUNGA IT IS!!
Time to bring out the big guns
The biggest ever
Let me just talk about the sheer SHOCK value 343i was going for when they showed the UNSC Infinity drop out of slipspace.
HOLY FUCK did they set that up well.
Throw in a few "Small" ships that we would recognize from Reach flying past a much larger ship...
Then have the Infinity fucking DWARF it and smash it into pieces.
That is definitely one method of providing scale to a large object.
