Bought a lorier when I first started getting into watches, not sure what drew me to a microbrand as a new watch collector but I'm glad I picked one up! The owners are awesome and the pieces are of great quality + specs for the price.
I really appreciate you putting a spotlight on watches we would normally never hear about. The acrylic crystal on this watch isn’t an issue at all. I purchased some buffing cream to take some marks out of the crystal of my speedmaster and it really worked well. So I wouldn’t have any hesitation purchasing a watch with an acrylic crystal. Stay safe and healthy!
Plus no glare or smudges I have to keep wiping off constantly. Personally, and strangely, it reminds me of my childhood at the baker's and stope when went to buy PS/Gameboy games. Or more relatably, when I got dragged to the old family jeweler, they still use plesiglass, most places! I stole a cut gem three times the size of my fist when I was 5 lol!
I own the Lorier Hydra and I absolutely love it! The acrylic MAKES the watch for me. The way light is reflected off of it onto the dial, you can't get it from sapphire at this price. You really can't help but stare at the way the light hits the dial. It is SOOOOOO hard to beat this watch in terms of style and quality at this price point.
I've got the Hydra as well and it just wouldn't be the same watch with a different crystal. I even like the micro scratches I have in it. It just adds more character in my opinion.
Baltic and Lorier watches equals all of the “mad scientist” thoughts I was having about the perfect watch. I wanted a quality vintage watch with a updated - decent movement at a reasonable price point at 40MM and under...no crown guards...LORIER & BALTIC. Literally saved me 10K...seriously saved me 10,000 bucks!
I have a Lorier watch and can safely say it’s amazing. I especially love the metal band, the links look better than any other ones I’ve seen, and was a main selling point for me :)
I watched this video. Then I watched your BB36 video. I hemmed. I hawed. I bought the BB36 and sweated bullets until it arrived. So glad I went upmarket. $2,400 for a watch seemed crazy at the time, but man is the quality a HUGE step up from Mido, Tissot, etc. I don’t regret it. Thanks for all the amazing reviews, you are a treasure my man.
Teddy, I have watched your channel growing and you really got the balance right. Your videos about affordable watches and micro brands are so well presented and researched. There are so many channels about Rolex here and Omega there and that's fine but it's really refreshing how you approach brands like Lorier which I haven't heard of before, even though I thought I know nearly every brand out there. I wish you sincerely the best of luck to grow the channel further.
Falcon I: Too big Falcon II: Perfect Watch. Better Version of the Black Bay 36. Falcon III: Love it. Better Version of modern Explorers. Falcon IV: Hopefully the better version of the Omega Railmaster 1957? That will be hard to achieve though :D
They have said again and again that it would cost less for them to have used sapphire crystal. They had to hunt hard to find a manufacturer that could make an acrylic crystal that would meet the water resistance they wanted. acrylic takes any beating you can throw at it and then you just polish it out with some toothpaste, its awesome vs having a big scratch that is impossible to fix like many of my sapphire crystals have.
That's good to know! But it begs the question: What on earth are you up to with your watches?? I've worn my beater watch constantly for almost 10 years and people still ask me if it's new because there isn't a single scratch on the cristal. I have to then educate them on the fact that the glass is synthetic sapphire which is almost impossible to scratch.
Also, I really like the way the (domed) crystal on my Dan Henry 1962 looks which is something called K1 mineral. Seems tougher than hardlex so far although I have been more careful than with my Seiko 5...
Thirty six mm looks good on your wrist. I have small wrists too . That is one of the reasons I buy vintage Omega. I just purchased a 1944 Omega Bumper, and it looks great on my wrist.
I can see myself getting a Lorier watch in the future. I’ve seen interviews with the husband/wife team and also saw them on Instagram Live. I like how focused they are as a brand.
Gotta agree with you about the acrylic. The Speedmaster Hesalite is drastically different in appearance to the Sapphire variant. I'd pick the Hesalite 10/10.
Appreciate your review of the series 2 Falcon. Just picked up their series 3 and would love to hear your views on the updates they’ve made to this piece. All the best!
I bought the Gemini, in the panda face, as a gift to myself for graduating law school and love it. It is truly an amazing watch. I love winding it every morning. I do wish the watch case was a little bigger, maybe around 40 or 41mm. Otherwise, it is a fantastic piece. For me, the bracelet is one of the most comfortable I've ever worn. The pushers to activate and reset the chronoscope function are nice and robust. All in all, this watch is one of my favorites. Highly recommend more people check out this brand! Worth every penny!!
Hi Teddy appreciate the review. I just received my first Lorier Neptune, their version iii yesterday. Great looking device, like the Falcon you reviewed. I decided to buy from Lorier as they're my local Microbrand and I wanted something a little different too. Keep up the good work
I've been watching video after video of reviews on Lorier watches for a few months and decided to buy one, ofcourse had to wait for the series 3 Neptune to come along but it was a tough decision between the Neptune and Falcon!! Mine comes today and so excited! Thanks for the honest review Teddy!
Wow, you picked up on this real quick. The next gen Falcons and Neptunes came out only a short while ago. Also you're the first one to comment on the new line with the miyota movement. Well played, Teddy.
I liked one of their photos on Instagram of this prototype model and they asked if I wanted to get loaned one and I said sure. Have had it with me for the last month. It’s a cool watch 👍🏻
@@TeddyBaldassarreI know you are always looking for “the next great topic” to discuss. Have you thought about a video just on Lorier watches? I think they are killing it with their designs and their sales! Most of their watches are almost always sold out. Their Hyperion GMT is exquisite. Their Falcon 3 is probably the best Explorer homage out there. And although you have reviewed their Hydra (which is awesome), I don’t think you have reviewed their Neptune. I just think Lorier may be worth a dedicated video as obviously many enthusiasts are buying their inventory days after they come out.
I've modded quite a few of my Hamilton Khakis from original sapphire crystal to acrylic, many have too. Acrylic yes scratches way more easily, but with a little toothpaste and a rag and about 2 minutes effort, it looks new again. Sapphire domes are a nightmare for reflection and legibility in sunlight unless they are very well AR'ed. Sapphire shatters, acrylic doesn't. And acrylic is deaf cheap to replace, and very quick and easy to install. And also, I'd MUCH prefer acrylic over hardlex/mineral crystal. Once hardlex scratches, good luck repairing it. Great review although I think comparing this watch to a dress watch like a SARB033 is an oversight. The Lorier is an adventure/explorer watch and has more in common design wise with an Explorer, BB36, Aqua Terra, or Hamilton Khaki on the more affordable end. As an adventure piece, I would have loved to see how it sat on the wrist on a nato and leather strap. Good review though 👍
The Falcon II really hit it out of the park from the first version in respect to the overall dimensions and choice of movement. I also like the overall look of the watch, especially that crown which is kind of one of their brand features. I really like a good size crown. Thanks again Teddy for another great review, Brian
Nice to see a review of the white falcon which I am waitlisted for. When it arrives it will be my 4th Lorier in the collecion. I really love their design and the thoughtfulness that you see when you hold one your hand. As they say, deapite the vintage cues they are very practical watches.
I have a neptune series II and a Gemini, and I'm getting a navy falcon in this upcoming production batch (I was lucky to get an early wait list spot). I have frankly too many microbrand watches from the affordable space lol so I'm fairly experienced in this area and I think Lorier is my favorite, next to Visitor perhaps. The Acrylic is honestly far superior to Sapphire, the warmth and distortion is so much better and scratches can be easily erased with polywatch. If anybody is considering them I'd say it's a no-brainer, go for it. Or just wait a while, their offerings have consistently gotten better over time in precisely the right ways and I'd bet that trend will continue.
There's something brilliantly alluring about the texture of the dial on this kind of daily wearer casual watch, that and the bracelet which is notably different from every oyster bracelet out there, really interesting effort
Thanks Teddy, great review as always. This exact model has been on my mind for a bit so your comments will not make my wallet too happy! I've owned a series 2 Neptune for about 8 months (with the Seiko movement) and it works a treat, about +4 seconds per day. The acrylic is obviously prone to scratching but the dome really adds something special to the feel of the watch.
I have no issues with acrylic ... agree with you Teddy, it's far warmer and gives some character to the watch. It's quite expensive to do domed sapphire, you have to have realistic expectations at this price point.
I've had a v1 Falcon for over a year now and I absolutely love it! Was a little apprehensive about it having acrylic and not sapphire but I haven't regretted it one bit.
I'm on the waiting list for the new falcon, but i wanted to ask - how scratch resistant is it compared to sapphire? How often does it need polywatch? Thanks
I have the V2 Neptune for over a year now. I loved it when I received it and it has become one of my all time favorite watches. The quality is exceptional, dial and case are great and the bracelet is very confortable and well put together. The devil is in the detail and Lorier did a great job. Absolutely worth the price and I will get another Lorier some time for schure!
Lorier is a great brand. I'm definitely going to buy a Neptune in near future. As for the new Falcon, I really appreciate the new 36mm size but I will miss the series' 1 unique dial.
Cool microbrand for sure with nice designs. Never handled the first gen so I can’t speak with any real authority on what I like more. I enjoy the lack of two toned colors here though.
Great video. I have the Neptune II with tilt dial. Love it. Great construction, one of the better bracelets in my opinion. I’m on the waitlist for the Falcon 2 white dial. Your review has confirmed that this was the right choice.
Great video, I put myself on the ordering list for the Gilt Green as I'm hoping this will act as an everyday watch I can wear for low key outdoor activity like camping, hikes with my young family. I had their Gen 1 Neptune and was very impressed. Had an issue with their thickness which is now addressed with their new movement choice.
Great Video as always! Got my Neptune SIII yesterday and I'm totally in love with the vintage looks and the waterdrop-like acryllic crystal! So glad I gave a microbrand a chance for my first diver.
acrylic refracts light while sapphire reflects it. i have a neptune gen 2. the distortions are beautiful and really transform the watch. polywatch is your friend as far as scratches go, totally worth it. i am on the waitlist for the 3rd gen. the bracelet is amazing by the way, could use one more micro adjustment, but is extremely comfortable, and has screw in pins which is a plus.
I'm amazed how perfectly it looks on you. It looks natural and in sync on you. 36mm scares me a little. My smallest watch is a 37 and I feel like I'm pushing it even though I have thin wrists.
Awesome job. Slick video as always. Thank you for introducing us to this new (to me) brand. I always appreciate the production and the education. Stay healthy.
I’ve got a budget of $500 for my 30th and I can’t find exactly what I want from the big, affordable brands, that’s why I’ve turned to micro brands as a possibility. Great review!
I like acrylic. It can be polished up to a point, and even though it's not as tough, it's cheaper to replace. The vintage look just can't be pulled off properly without acrylic either.
Agreed on that. Acrylic no question looks more inviting and “vintage” than sapphire. Loge the looks but are certainly reasons going for sapphire as well.
@@TeddyBaldassarre "Inviting" is the perfect word. You never look pretentious wearing acrylic. You also feel like you can toss it around more freely. My sapphire crystal got scratched when I hit it against the wall accidentally, because concrete apparently has some trace material that is above 9 on Mohs hardness scale. Well repair is extremely tough, and replacing that is over 100 dollars! What good was the toughness when you can still easily come across harder than 9 materials in your day to day life?
@@johnsurs22 cool story, never happened to me with saphires. Been wearing just 1 piece for almost an year now, bumped it plenty of times into desk, doors and walls and has exactly zero signs of wear. On the other hand, I've scratched 2 acrylic glass watches the very first day I put them on my wrist. And that was just the beginning. Sold em both, eventually. Acrylic looks fine, even scratched, on vintage watches, not on vintage-wannabees
@@andrei-cosmin.popa85 You still have to get unlucky with sapphire crystals, and it also depends on the curvature. If yours is flat, you may not have hit the crystal directly that hard. Maybe I should have gone for a flat sapphire. Acrylic obviously scratches easily, but the scratches can be polished out. Nothing wrong with sapphire, just stating the pros and cons
Love the symmetry; well balanced dial; no day/date is a big plus for me; beautiful tapered lugs; nice and thin; decent movement. If I needed a dressier everyday, this one would be at or near the top of my list.
I think this is a great budget option for those who can’t or won’t spring for an Explorer or Tudor 36 - this is a great, very old school option at a reasonable price. The SARB and especially the SARX, although beautiful, do not quite scratch that itch. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, the blue dial version is killer. Thanks for the video.
Another great review Teddy. I like the model, specifically the white waffled dial and the integration of the bracelet to the lugs and case. With that said it reminds me how much I want Tudor to release a white dial 36mm Black Bay.
I actually think the small scratches in acrylic add charm to it. Kinda like how bronze patinas. Shows your history with it. And when it gets too cloudy then just polish it out.
I have a new diver style watch with a bubble domed acrylic chrystal. It has a Seagull St1612 automatic movement. It's very accurate and I wear it daily. I have a lot of vintage watches with acrylic chrystals but wear the new one mostly, as it's something I don't need to worry about. I also have a tube of Polywatch standing by to polish out any scratches. I like the look of the Lorier but I only buy vintage watches now.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Lorier! I have a Hydra and a Gemini. Would love to add that white Falcon, but super hard to get. I wish you would have commented on the fact that plexi is much harder to break than sapphire and that surface scratches can be buffed right out of plexi with polywatch. I truly believer plexi is more durable than sapphire, overall (def not scratches thought).
I am getting the blue dial variant and it should be in hand this week, really looking forward to it. I am a big fan of a 36mm watch and would like to see more watches in this size as I believe it is so right. Thanks again for the great review, Brian.
Mine’s on order!!! I think you’ve articulated the trade off between sapphire and acrylic very nicely. I own the Seiko Cocktail Time and Junghans Max Bill. The domed look is beautiful on both
Update…I finally purchased the black/gilt Falcon II. It’s a great watch! I highly recommend it for smaller-wristed folks. The amount of links that can be removed allows you to place the clasp exactly where it will sit the best on the underside of your wrist (I like the clasp moved closer to the 6-o’clock side of the watch than the 12-o’clock side for comfort & fit).
Acrylic > Sapphire. Apart from the aesthetic standpoint, acrylic crystals don't get the credit they deserve. Yes they're more prone to scratches but they can be easily removed but acrylic crystals are less likely to chip and shatter from heavy impact compared to sapphire.
You nailed a good point here about shattering as well. It is true. I figured this would open up some conversation regarding this. Thanks for sharing your take.
Over a decade of collecting and flipping watches and I never managed to shatter a saphire although my pieces took direct hits plenty of times. Glad to see there's acrylic fans out there. Enjoy the polishing process.
If you gave an acrylic crystal the same bump that would shatter a sapphire crystal, you aren't buffing it out with all the polywatch in the world. That said, I love the choice of acrylic on this watch.
My Neptune Gilt V2 is my daily wearer and I am on the list for the Falcon 2. This fits my aesthetic and love the brand. The owners are amazing as well. The acrylic is the way to go for the look and people’s arguments vs sapphire are moot because this is what they chose. If you prefer sapphire, look elsewhere. It’s either for you, or it’s not. It’s for me!!
True. The Tudor is a stunner. I'm buying that falcon as an affordable alternative.

Hi, Rotor's movement it's not too noisy ? I saw on forum, it's an issue on this watch, and on miyota 90s5 generally. Note, I return an sternglas naos for this issue. So I don't want to make the same error. My LIP Himalya (Miyota 82S5) is not too noisy for me. thanks, Teddy B. for your videos, so useful.
I am so close to pulling the trigger on a very clean used Falcon 2. I just worry 36mm will wear too small as my 37mm Seiko SNKL41 is pushing it already, size-wise...great video as always, Teddy.
I see acrylic as a more robust crystal than sapphire. Yes it scuffs and scratches more easily, but that's easy to fix. However, acrylic is more impact resistant and will not shatter, while sapphire will. A sapphire crystal is more about aesthetics as it stays looking great despite mild abuse. However, acrylic is definitely a better choice for something you plan to wear all the time.
Teddy I got the Neptune 3 now, did you ever get your hands on previous versions? I had the gen 2 and MAN you need to review this new one. It’s perfect, so much thinner.
I love the look of this watch and lorier watches in general lol! I like the dome acrylic but what sells me is the bracelet and how the finish plays with the light! I’m fairly new to watch collecting and currently only own a Seiko 5 snk805 and a gshock dw5600. Im currently saving for something from Lorier! Thanks for the review
Having many years of watch wearing behind me, I've learned that any crystal less than sapphire, I will scratch it (no matter how hard I try to avoid it). I can tell a difference between the plexiglass style crystals, but I hate scratches. A nice watch though!
Beautiful watch and I get what they were trying to do with the acrylic crystal, but it kind of kills it for me. If it was sapphire I would've ordered one of these in a second. Wish they would've at least given people the option of that upgrade. Maybe on future iterations..
Hey Teddy. I hope you and your are safe and well. Visited the site. Some really nice pieces. Might consider pulling the trigger on one. Awesome video as usual. All the best. Be safe. Stay well.
Hi Teddy, can you let us know if the micro adjustment worked well. It’s a must for me at least to easily adjust - without tools - as I heat up or cool down throughout the day. Would have liked to see that along with vids of the other colours too.
Very classy watch, I love the size and look. The dial is gorgeous in any configuration. I'd like to see a sapphire later down the line but I understand why they would go with it this way. Costs for smaller brands are higher because they are themselves buying in smaller batches. If everyone supports them then I imagine the options will bloom.
I LOVE vintage-inspired pieces! But I am super uptight about scratches on my crystals, so acrylic is a deal breaker. It would be sweet with vintage-like watches to have the option of sapphire. Then I could buy a Max Bill :)
I have a seiko watch with a sapphire crystal. It has scratches all over it, and what's really irritating is the fact that I can't polish it out. You can polish acrylics.
If a microbrand's design clicks for you and Seiko doesn't, that's reason enough. That's why I have the original Monta diver on my wrist and a blue Halios Fairwind on the way.
Hey Teddy, another great review, could you review smith Everest PRS 25, it share the same 36mm case size and it has favourable review on it, would like to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks 😊
I don't know about Lorier, but this falcon 2 is an AWESOME watch from a design perspective. And I agree with you, often the people that are new to the watch world will just give too much weight to the sapphire crystal and the "small" case sizes... I think this watch looks amazing, I won't buy one just because I already have a Sarb033 and I would have to choose between the two which one to use :D

The quality is exceptional, dial and case are great and the bracelet is very confortable and well put together. The devil is in the detail and Lorier did a great job. Absolutely worth the price and I will get another Lorier some time for schure!
Excellent video editing, execution, dialog, dude you are killing it, I've even started liking the brand!
Gosh your photography just keeps getting better and better
Very sensible discussion on acrylic crystal here that I hadn't considered. Thank you.
@@TeddyBaldassarre I really liked the white guilt dial 😅 we have a bit different taste probably 😊
Thanks for the review!
Loving these new intros to the video and the watch selections. Keep up the great work Teddy
I'm amazed how perfectly it looks on you. It looks natural and in sync on you. 36mm scares me a little. My smallest watch is a 37 and I feel like I'm pushing it even though I have thin wrists.
Get a Hublot and never look back. Just make sure you compensate by wearing a baby in the other hand. A fat one. Alfa male right there!
Awesome job. Slick video as always. Thank you for introducing us to this new (to me) brand. I always appreciate the production and the education. Stay healthy.
Happy to do it Craig! Love what I get to do 🙌🏻 stay safe
The white dial lowkey reminds me of a golf ball
Love the symmetry; well balanced dial; no day/date is a big plus for me; beautiful tapered lugs; nice and thin; decent movement. If I needed a dressier everyday, this one would be at or near the top of my list.
I think this is a great budget option for those who can’t or won’t spring for an Explorer or Tudor 36 - this is a great, very old school option at a reasonable price. The SARB and especially the SARX, although beautiful, do not quite scratch that itch. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for, the blue dial version is killer. Thanks for the video.
Just sold my sarb for a navy Lorier. Def not regretting it.
Another great review Teddy. I like the model, specifically the white waffled dial and the integration of the bracelet to the lugs and case. With that said it reminds me how much I want Tudor to release a white dial 36mm Black Bay.
I kinda love the waffle dial
Me: Woohoo another 36mm let's buy it.
My wallet: you just emptied me for the "other watch" remember???
What an idiot you are
@@MmM-hn3bc He's a textbook example of an internet watch _idiot_ savant
Phafanapolis really? All I see is someone who likes 36mm watches. What’s it matter to you 😒
@@MmM-hn3bc I just noticed this comment, yes I like 36 mm watches. WTF my money I decide what I buy...stf and mind you own business
@@Mister_Phafanapolis I just noticed your stupid comment, yes I like 36 mm watches. WTF my money I decide what I buy...stf and mind you own business
I actually think the small scratches in acrylic add charm to it. Kinda like how bronze patinas. Shows your history with it. And when it gets too cloudy then just polish it out.
I love the design the green/gilt one is very nice
Who's Brian?
@@dparis2172 I am using my wives google account so that is why I signed my name at the end.
Mine’s on order!!! I think you’ve articulated the trade off between sapphire and acrylic very nicely. I own the Seiko Cocktail Time and Junghans Max Bill. The domed look is beautiful on both
I like it. I went into the review with an “acrylic...nope” attitude, but I think you may have me convinced.
Acrylic looks much better than sapphire. I would never swap the acrylic on my Max Bill for a sapphire one.
Yep, I think acrylic was the correct call here.
Cool watch, Teddy. I'm waiting on my Falcon with green dial to arrive.
Terrific review Teddy! You hit the nail on the head, re individual tastes & or difference. I like Lorier’s range of watches in general! 😍👍🏼😎
Love the classic look ! Maybe my next watch.
As always super review 👍
Hey Teddy, could you do an update video on your watch collection?
I have a Neptune II coming to me hopefully in late August. I love the brand, the style and i cant wait until my watch arrives.
Surprised there was no mention of the Tudor Black Bay 36, which this watch certainly looks like it is getting some design cues from.
Exactly
True. The Tudor is a stunner. I'm buying that falcon as an affordable alternative.
Hi,
Rotor's movement it's not too noisy ? I saw on forum, it's an issue on this watch, and on miyota 90s5 generally.
Note, I return an sternglas naos for this issue. So I don't want to make the same error. My LIP Himalya (Miyota 82S5) is not too noisy for me.
thanks, Teddy B. for your videos, so useful.
Love my Neptune 3...super cool watch!
Good review Teddy. Not a watch in my future, but a decent looking time keeper.
It wears a bit bigger than a 36, nice looking watch, the waffle is cool too.
YES! My Neptune is on the way in blue & white
Teddy I got the Neptune 3 now, did you ever get your hands on previous versions? I had the gen 2 and MAN you need to review this new one. It’s perfect, so much thinner.
How does the acrylic glass hold up with scratches? This is my one worry.
We need a Casio Edifice review ASAP Teddy!
Nice looking watch. Where are they made?
Lorier is one of those microbrands like Ming, Unimatic, and Baltic that just knocks every single model out of the park.
I dig the design, finishing and size. Only thing I would upgrade is box saphire and clasp - more adjustment spots since there's no half links
@@KIMMINHWANS Thats really interesting. I respect them all the more because they are putting form first. I have to say I'm a huge fan.
I LOVE vintage-inspired pieces! But I am super uptight about scratches on my crystals, so acrylic is a deal breaker. It would be sweet with vintage-like watches to have the option of sapphire.
Then I could buy a Max Bill :)
got a first generation hydra from lorier and i love it to bits
What a beautiful watch. I understand why they went with the acrylic but I know I would scratch it badly probably on the first day.
I have a seiko watch with a sapphire crystal. It has scratches all over it, and what's really irritating is the fact that I can't polish it out. You can polish acrylics.
How do you differentiate between a micro-brand and some of the higher quality fashion watches?
Have a video coming up addressing this
Acrylic can be buffed out easily and won't shatter like Sapphire. It's arguably more reliable in that case especially when under water...
Nice looks, classic with a modern input, great size for small wrist people like me ✌️
Beautiful piece. Thanks, Teddy.
Thanks 😊
Great video. Nice looking watch. Lighting was a little dark couldn’t see it real well.SEIKO IS KING !!!
Falcon III is about to drop with a 369 dial. Am considering the new model.
