Fine review. The Falcon is truly what a homage must be: a tribute to designs and past trends without being a Frankenstein, and with its own design language. As for acrylic, i have zero problems with it but in my opinion it got very controversial after the chinese started to put sapphire on everything under $200. If i was Lorier i would ditch acrylic, put a coated domed sapphire and keep the prices for a nice feeling of upgrade.
A "Franken" is a watch made up at least partially of brand-genuine parts, but to look like a complete original of a given model. As to homages--the Rolex 1016 dial design was abandoned nearly 40 years ago, and the rest of the "design language" partly came from and has certainly now been incorporated into the soup from which legit watch design is drawn. A perfect clone of the 1016 with different trademark is an entirely valid project today. Companies are really flirting with it now. For this early style dial the Armida A6 is pretty satisfying. If Baltany does one with white print and minute track they will have left little room for improvement.
So pleased to finally see a fresh review of the Falcon. Great videography and commentary. I have checked out the other homage watches but I think this is the best vintage inspired one by far. I was a bit concerned by the dial size being too small but I think this is an optical illusion because the acrylic dial is so domed. I will definitely be picking one of these up!
The dial is about the right size, but the bezel is too narrow and there's a bunch of garbage between the dial and that thin bezel--much like the Smith's in that regard. For this dial type the Armida A6 is a much more satisfying homage.
Great review and many thanks for 'the many light-angles' coverage. Question: How is a 36mm watch not 'big' enough to be well lumed? E.g. A Seiko-Sumo, which many people regard to simply too big to wear, measures about 28mm of dial diameter inside the plastic-insert~chapter-ring. Is the Seiko Sumo, one of the most lumed seiko divers (at least 2nd Gen sumo) too small to contain lume? Very few if any divers have a dial larger than ~32mm, and most divers are way-way too big for normal daily use: and they are obviously often very well and heavily lumed. But your point on the fact of the insufficient lume and legibility on the falcon is very good to know. Many thanks!
At mamacoo it's not just a watch; it's an art piece. Each design is crafted with unique inspiration and craftsmanship. The exquisite production process reveals not just a watch, but a fashionable feast for the senses.
I have 3 months of ownership with the Falcon III (as well 2nd hand) and I can't ignore the fact of the flat hands getting lost, and with the shy amount of lume on the hour hand. I'm planning even buy a better handset that I found online with inspiration on the Universal Genève Polerouter 'Broad Arrow' compatible with the 90S5. Yes, I'm crazy. But also comes to my mind just to sell it and look for one of my dream watches, the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date 7551. Do you still own it? What would you do in my place considering my already mentioned madness? Many thanks in advance, great review tho! .
Modding it is a bit of an extreme solution (although I understand the annoyance at the flat hands), unless you have lots of experience, setting hands is a pain. I think go for your dream watch! :)
