Thing is about homages, there isn't a watch manufacturer out there that hasn't produced a homage or three. If it gives us the option of buying something from the past that we would never otherwise have been able to buy I don't see the problem. There are far worse things going on in the world.

I've picked one up, personally from the images and the video it doesn't bother me too much! I think for an automatic chrono it couldve really been bad. We shall see though

Couldn't agree more and I think this is why I'll never be happy with a mechanical chronograph. I have the SSC813 and it's just proportionally devine and extremely comfortable. While the Lorier is gorgeous, I think it might hurt my wrist 😅

    • @mitchaelhollingsworth1698
      @mitchaelhollingsworth1698 2 місяці тому

@@dinosoup i agree the side profile isnt ideal, but a mechanical chrono has to be this thick for the movement. The way a diver needs a substantial case for the increased water resistance. No one slags off the omega seamaster diver 300m for being 42mm diameter, 13.6mm thick and 49.9 lug to lug, they accept it. The lorier olympia is 39mm diameter, 13.8mm thick and 46mm lug to lug. Those are pretty reasonable dimensions. I have had a meca quartz chrono before. Those are kind of the best of booth worlds, slimmer, and all the benefits of quartz.

I love how you borrowed a $6K watch for a review of a $800 watch. Shows that enthusiasm is divorced from price tag. Great review as always! I had one of the earlier Lorier Gemini watches and Really enjoyed it. I was nervous about the seagull movement so I sold it on, but with the seiko chrono movement I feel this looks like a great watch. Cheers!

I met Lauren and Lorenzo at a watch show at the beginning of this year. Lovely couple and I like their mid-century designs, which look and feel vintage. I was wearing my Dan Henry 1962 Panda (got it thanks to your brilliant review) when I met them. I'd urge folks to also look at the Dan Henry - while not an auto, it is a very nice chrono for only $280. Cheers!

Dial is absolutely beautiful. As you pointed out TGV, what a magic combination of monochromatic with a hint of colour here and there. The only that stops be hitting by is that side profile. Not fussed by the height itself, it's actually really impressive what Lorier have been able to do with Seiko/TMI. I'm just not sure on how they had made it mushroom up into the dial. Maybe I need to wait for a V2 for a more smooth/integrated shape

Some of the best editing to date, epic intro. I dare say "Itch that scratch" is going to be a Gentry catch phrase. This Lorier is a beauty. Stands a bit proud with that dome but otherwise gorge. Best auto chrono under 1k: Pre-owned Oris Chronoris 7564 orange or Tutima 793. You have to hunt, but they do pop for less than 1k. A couple out there right now as I type. Cheers, D

One of your favorite watches and mine . Seiko Flightmaster SNA411 . I own two of them , one brand new in the box and one I have been wearing for about 15 years , just replace the battery when needed , ever though I own other watches the 411 is my go to watch for every day use , I am a blue collar worker so the watch gets a beating , has never let me down only when the battery dies , about every 2 to 3 years . Thank you for your reviews .One of the things that effects me in my choice of watches these days , (I am 71) is my eye sight . I find watches with to much going on in the dial of no use to me as I can't read the sub dials .I believe this is a topic that is not addressed enough and most people in this aging group are in denial about how good their eye sight is .

    • @richardmorris7063
      @richardmorris7063 2 місяці тому

Most people don't even use the sub dials, do you run the second hand constantly? Because on my Tudor that greatly reduces the 70 HR power reserve. Maybe u can get more life out of the battery.

And I totally agree with you. People are too quickly offended these days when watchmakers use an acrylic crystal. I own a watch from Lorier and it's really not a big deal. They give you a tube of Polywatch and all it takes is 5 mins to buff out the scratches. Lorier is just amazing.

Hi, I really like this piece however i find once a watch goes over 13.5mm it becomes a door magnet. This is 11.7 but then the crystal is 2.1mm taking this to almost 14mm. For me this would be too tall, as you have been hands on with the watch do you consider this an issue.

Sometimes people focus too much on stats, if the watch is big & most chronograph are try it on a comfortable rubber strap. I have a few large pieces, Tudor Panda & Omega Speedster to name a couple. Yes on a bracelet they feel heavy & move around but I fixed it w/ a rubber soft strap.

TGV.. I’m disagreeing with the master here ha however I think the pushers look great being smaller, with the lovely taper of the strap they work well together and balance the watch out nicely especially considering the height of the dial and glass. Fun review TGV, I really enjoyed the historical back story. I appreciate the thought that went into the design of this watch, which to me is no more homagey (invented word) than most chronographs. While I get that collectors have certain expectations for a movement in this price range, I still somehow feel that worrying about ghost date position is a YT-inspired gripe -- I mean, talk about lazy, how much extra effort does it require to pull the crown past the date when setting the time?

Very nice looking watch, dimensions are great.
However I spot some QC issues, applied indexes not always aligned with markers on the dial. I am pretty sure on daily basis is hard to spot, however on your macro shoots I noticed that.
Packing is a change for better, I believe Furlan Marri used them as first brand in microbrand world.

Ps. I just bought NOS Ebel watch from end of 90’s/beginning of 00’s with official 2 year warranty which is incredible. I would like to hear more about them, they were higher in luxury grade than Rolex in their peak time (80’s-90’s). Ebel become the first Swiss watchmaker to introduce the “western electric” precision and quality control standards. They created CTM which made significant contributions to enhancing the quality control criteria in COSC.

11.7 is a nice height for an off the shelf movement based chrono, but is still way out of proportion at 39mm case width, just look at the side profile. All such chronos suffer from this "problem". Sinn 356 also comes to mind. These should be 42mm to make sense. At the same time, I understand the desire to find a nice smaller chrono as the only 2 proportioned options are the Daytona and Zenith offerings from the turn of the century, and the latter is where I would put my money.

Agree with you on the undersized pushers. They were the 1st thing I noticed when I saw the photos. Hopefully they'll make them bigger in the next version.

Lee H Katzin's Lemans and John Frankenheimer's Grand Prix are the Best racing films 🎥 ever made. The realism they had will never be topped and Bullit 1968 is the best car chase sequence. Rip Steve McQueen and Bill Hickman who in McQueen's own words was the best stunt driver in Hollywood and in both Lemans and Grand Prix both James Garner and Steve McQueen both wore Heuer chronographs

Love this, it reminds me of my panda dialled Speedy racing which was based on a Valjoux 7750 and l I traded it a few years ago. I regretted that decision, so this could scratch that itch again for me if they don’t all sell out within hours! 😢Thanks for the review TGV.

Good morning and happy Friday 🥂
I'll agree first with the case, it's a watch, so it doesn't need to be stored in a suitcase 😂 The large wooden case for my Seamaster takes up a bit too much room and there's not really any need for it.
Regarding the acrylic crystal, I don't really mind that, but I think Marc has spoiled us with sapphire at a decent price.
We must be close to the RM2 now. I'm waiting with antici- pation 😅

TGV -great review and it's now put Lorier on my watch list (no pun intended).
I have to dispute that Hanhart produce the best chronograph ever. My choice is that without a doubt the Zenith El Primero heads that list. I've had 2, the most recent is the Rainbow Flyback on my wrist now. It's simply unbeatable! Other opinions are available ...

Do you normally quote the height of a watch excluding the crystal? Wouldn’t it be more realistic to quote the actual height 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for the review. Always informative and entertaining. I personally like this new watch…if it’s half as well done as the other Loirer that I own, it’s sure to be a treat. Thanks again.

I really like that Lorier is sticking to their guns with their choice not to use a sapphire crystal. and explain their reasons for doing so, despite a constant sea of whining. That alone makes me want to buy one of their watches. Also Jackie Brown is so great

Ghost date was a surprise for me in mi IWC Portugeeser 7750 pre-inhouse. I was literally shocked. Maybe stupid to admit but one of the reasons I sold it.
    Take care !

Regarding your bracelet criticism. While it may not be a high end bracelet it's actually great. Excellent finish, excellent articulation and comfort. Highly recommend this bracelet even with the low number of micro-adjusts. My Hamilton PSR bracelet feels a bit more solid, but not by much.

I'm happy to see the NE88 movement get some love. I seemed to be stuck in no-man's-land between the ST19 on the cheapest end and the 7753 for a "Swiss" chrono movement. Besides Straton and Hemel, few brands had the movement. Even Seiko seemed to shelve it for several years before tossing it in their current Speedtimer collection.
I'm not sold on this watch. I always felt something is off with the Lorier dimensions. The lug angle? The wide flat links? the odd end link transition to the lugs? All their watches just seem a bit off to me. I would love to see this on a beads of rice bracelet. Maybe that would change my mind.

This is a great looking chronograph watch TGV. I love the splash of colour on the sub dial also which makes this watch stand out more from other similar watch designs.
The downside for me though is the height of the watch. I have a small size wrist and it would probably fit like a brick on my wrist. I do have a a couple of Orient Neo 70 panda watches which do work for me though being slimmer. Great review though and thanks for posting it.

That is a very interesting point indeed. Something perhaps for a whole video in itself, as I feel the answer is so complex. But ultimately, it boils down to each brand individually IMO. There are some really going places, others not so much. Thank you for this, it has my mind really wondering now too, especially after my video before this one.
      Best regards,
      TGV

Lovely. And, I think that's the thinnest auto chrono that uses the Seiko based column wheel chrono movement. It's a thick movement, so, amazing they got it sub 12mm thick... I might have to rewatch this video, but, is that including the crystal?
Regardless, a nice new addition into the Lorier catalog of vintage inspire watches. Which leads me to another point..
I agree with your take at the end of the video about the trend of going vintage style getting "long in the tooth", as some say. It can work for some still, but, many start to feel "fine" and i'm left a bit 😐.
