Without admitting I'm old, (graduated HS in 1989), still get goosebumps from this song particularly, and Pink Floyd in general. It's one of those feelings I hope never go away.
Back in O.C. Calif when I was 27 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"... I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Raphael Ravenscroft” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen. I asked David…. How do you create those awesome solos?… he said….. I sit on a stool and listen to what Roger, Nick and Rick put down and play along. I listen to what I played and pick out what I like, then I put the pieces together into one piece then learn to play it as one. Our fans are fanatics for our shows to sound like the albums so I must play it correctly each time in a show. I have the concert Brochure and album on the wall with David’s picture centerfold.
Gilmour has got to be the best solo guitarist that ever lived dude. Great reaction to just a superhuman song and parformance. Holy smokes man. That guitar was CRYIN!!!!
I was fortunate enough to see David Gilmour on this tour in 2016, when it came through Chicago. I had just become a Pink Floyd/David Gilmour fan the year before, so I jumped at the opportunity to see David Gilmour in concert. It was an amazing show, much like the version you just watched from Pompeii. Another great song from the Pompeii concert is called 'In Any Tongue', if you ever want to react to that.
I saw one of the shows on this tour at a small theater in Chicago at the Rosevelt (?) booked late in the tour between the two united center gigs. Venue held not even 2000 people. It was magic.
I was 16 when I first heard PF on the underground FM station living with my folks in the SF Bay Area in 1968. UmmaGumma had just been released and my friend bought it and we listened to it in his room at his house. They played Astronomy Domine.. and I looked the same as you - speechless. Sadly, we Floydies just get older but our respect and awe to have been a part of the PF 'LIVE' generation will never leave... Welcome to the best music ever made.
I admit, I'm old. Graduated in 1972. I still goosebumps. Pink Floyd puts on the best concert I've ever been to. A good guitarist can make his guitar speak to the audience. It has nothing to do with how fast of a riff you can play. Gilmour makes his guitar sing.
gilmour is 70 in this take. i don´t know if you already saw it: a month ago (gilmour now 76) pink floyd produced their first new song in 28 years ... with a ukrainian singer (because of the war in the ukraine). it is called HEY HEY RISE UP.
I saw him on this tour in 2016 (as well as with Pink Floyd in 1994). I have friends who I love and appreciate who I've tried to get into this music and I've discovered that people have very visceral reactions to their songs. It either makes them happy or it makes them uncomfortable, sad, they don't like the feeling of music making them contemplate life. For me, it has has always made me happy. Happy tears often come to my eyes. I crave and enjoy that feeling of emotion, of music that just takes me to a place. For some people that is an uncomfortable place. Your reaction is much how I feel about it. It's emotional but it's also amazing to have music make you feel that way. Awesome reaction. I will be looking at more of your reactions.
The way Eddie Van Halen put it into words is best way I've heard David Gilmour explained. EVH describing what makes David Gilmore the master guitarist, he says: "David Gilmour is the benchmark of less being more. He has proved that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmour never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player"
First time commenting. I've been watching your videos for a while. I love to see the amazement in your eyes. It's like hearing it for the first time. Keep it up, man. You are spreading joy.
This song was what I chose for my father's last song on his funeral. I knew he'd have loved it because everyone else who chose a song chose something he never would've liked haha
I still get chills! James, please also check out Pink Floyd "Echoes live in Pompeii, 1972." You'll see them when they were young. Please also do their new song: "Hey Hey Rise Up" in solidarity with Ukraine. David Gilmour's daughter in law is Ukrainian.
Every one of the musicians in this band has had a great career themselves, playing with or for great bands themselves, and over decades of doing so. Each was picked by David for this tour. Many will claim that Pulse had a better version, and for some parts like the opening vocals, they are correct, as the original members of Pink Floyd will always play their songs a little bit better than other people playing them, but..when it comes to David's guitar work, this version is the top, as he puts so much more color into this version and not filter so much of it out to make room for a synth sound or a bass carry, or to give the drums another fill, for in this version, he is the front and center, he is the fills, he is the focus, and what he did with it is incredible, and add to it the environment of the moment, being only the 2nd concert in 1000+ yrs in the amphitheater, the lazer and light show that Pink Floyd is legendary for, and hearing the audience's participation at times louder than the backing vocals, created an epic moment, for which the very expressions on the band's faces give proof to just how much they realized it in their highly experienced careers, this was beyond pinnacle, this was legendary, epic, mastery and they were fully taking it in with complete realization...have you ever seen a more happier drummer in your life? Or, the back up singers, two of which were smiling so grand that they skipped a vocal part, and the other guitarists were expressing similar emotion as the drummer. The only other concert in this amphitheater since the historic volcano eruption that buried the city, was Pink Floyd in the early 70's.
I had the honor and privilege of seeing Pink Floyd in concert May 1988 Kansas City Arrowhead Stadium . It was phenomenal, they preformed for 2hrs and 40 minutes, which they had a intermission. Didn’t make it to end.
I’ve been a Pink Floyd fan since the 80s. But I love listening to David Gilmour because even in his 70s he’s still killing it! One of my favorites is On An Island from this show or you can check his Live in Gdańsk concert as well.
Pink Floyd by many is considered the Number one greatest rock band. I am seventy years old this is the music I grew up with. So blessed!!! If you really want to be impressed watch the PINK FLOYD PULSE concert.
Now that version was worked off of the Comfortably Numb Pulse '94 tour which you must see, the stage, the lights, the colors and of course the ending guitar solo which u feel is still my favorite... you need to check it out.. on a side note I was at the Giants Stadium & Veterans Stadium shows
Pink Floyd actually did a concert video in the ruins of Pompeii in I believe 1973. It was just the band and the crew there. It was very spartan but in true Pink Floyd fashion it kicked ass!
Great reaction... David Gilmour is a legend! And PULSE 1994 version even better imo I remember requested you to react Pink Floyd - Time, as one of the greatest songs ever. With your understanding of the music, you will enjoy it a lot But since it's been a while maybe there is your reaction on this masterpiece removed by UA-cam perhaps?
You want to see the Pulse Tour Version 1994. Simply The Greatest Live Guitar Solo Ever Done In History. DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE VIDEO... every second is awesome.
Just FYI, Ice-T isn’t just an actor. He started out as a rapper, former gang member and also created his own metal band called, BODY COUNT. Here’s his explanation of his love for hardcore/ metal. Here’s Body Counts Slayer cover: ua-cam.com/video/LPHJLB1ZeAc/v-deo.html. They also just won a Grammy for Body Count. ENJOY! 🤘🏻😎😎🎸🎸🥁
Just my advice. Take it if you like. ALWAYS hear the studio version first, that way you know how the song was intended, and later on, you can compare the live to see truly how talented a band is. Live shows it all.
This was from Gilmour's last solo tour in 2016, so it really wasn't another era at all. If you were near any of the three big cities, New York LA or Chicago, and had a significant amount of spending money on ya, you could have seen this one.
As good as it is, I think most people would say that the Earls Court performance in the P.U.L.S.E. concert is, by far, the best live version of this song, ever! The stage set-up is better, as are the lighting effects and the sound quality is off the charts. Here is the link - ua-cam.com/video/7kWl-ZGMwkQ/v-deo.html . If that doesn't work, look for this - Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (PULSE Restored & Re-Edited).
Most of Pink Floyds, and probably Led Zeppelins back catalogue would be viewed as self-indulgent in how they chose to make music back then. The results have stood the test of time however, and will far outlive the pop pulp that dominates the charts these days.
I've seen pink floyd 6 times over the years. Once in the 70s before Roger left the band. I've seen Roger alone twice, and the others of the band 3 times, and David's version is SO much better. Find one without Roger singing. The one with Bowie is one of my favorites too. Explore more PF
Now, if you can handle having the rest of your brain Exploded, try "Run Like Hell" from the PULSE concert!!!! Just, hit the bathroom first, because this one will take you apart! Peace, my friend. 🕊️✌️😇😁
I was first cognizant of the song when I was in high school awesome awesome. However, in my later life I too became a junkie on cocaine. Neil Young the needle and damage done hey check it out. But what they describe Gilmore describes is what happens when you stick that needle in your arm. Is so seductive but it's a trap. I'm back on my feet and I'm clean and sober for 12 years but it took heaven and hell and a lot of work to get me there and I will not give it up now. Just saying maybe I could be a personal help to somebody else who's sitting there with a needle stuck in their arm.
Did you notice the drummer grinning like he won the lottery? He's not the original drummer, and it must be like a dream came true.
Without admitting I'm old, (graduated HS in 1989), still get goosebumps from this song particularly, and Pink Floyd in general. It's one of those feelings I hope never go away.
You whippersnapper. I graduated HS in 1970, and still get goosebumps over this. I 1st heard Time when I was 21 and still love listening to it.
You're still young!
I am old, 61 and still love David Gilmore. This Grandma still rocks!
@@kathycuster8219 I'm older than you and I still rock too!
Me too

First off. Congratulations on your graduation bud. You deserve it. Second off, great reaction to an awesome song

I saw them also. Dark Side of the Moon. Still cannot fully describe it! Just enjoy the feelings.
I was at the first united center show in 2016, absolutely incredible and I proposed to my wife after the show.
Lucky you!

anything from this concert is just perfection. unbelievable, that he's in his 70s

good to see you smiling again mate ...Tim.London.U.K
The best relentless solo ever recorded. Bravo !

Pink floyd and David Gilmour = best band of all times 😎👍 next one from Pink Floyd - Dogs ( with Lyric ) = 17 min song .. 🎸🎷🥁🎻🎤🎶

It's so nice to see you back and rocking to the best guitarist ever!!! Road to 100K!!!!
David Gilmore is a man with GOD given talent and love's to share it
All songs I think should be listened to in their original released form as that was its genesis.
I saw him on this tour in 2016 (as well as with Pink Floyd in 1994). I've heard dozens of people try to explain their amazement over this song.
That's all you can do is try.
You looked amazed!!!
This song was what I chose for my father's last song on his funeral. I knew he'd have loved it because everyone else who chose a song chose something he never would've liked haha

Shine On You Crazy Diamond from this concert is just stunning. It brings tears, goosebumps, everything!

You need to play the great gig in the sky
I had the honor and privilege of seeing Pink Floyd in concert May 1988 Kansas City Arrowhead Stadium . It was phenomenal, they preformed for 2hrs and 40 minutes, which they had a intermission. Didn’t make it to end.
Your reactions are infectious and every one I've seen make4s me happy. Thank you! New subscriber!!
Epic…. Great description… unreal track and yes I get goose pimples as well
I’ve been a Pink Floyd fan since the 80s. But I love listening to David Gilmour because even in his 70s he’s still killing it! One of my favorites is On An Island from this show or you can check his Live in Gdańsk concert as well.
LOVE your air guitar work! You really appreciate that instrument.

That song reminds me of my childhood life
Just some good music Classic music I have not heard this song in along time 🔥

Brother, in another timeline, you would have been among the circle of my best friends! Thank you for your intelligence and honesty. 🕊️✌️😇
Seen them Live twice some 40 years ago and it was life changing
This is my favorite Pink Floyd song! Thanks for reacting!!
Love this song 💜
No other band can match them! Pink Floyd is beyond PHENOMENAL!!!
I was lucky enough to see them live at Texas stadium in the 90s.
rock on
Great reaction... David Gilmour is a legend! And PULSE 1994 version even better imo

Fkg great reaction, Bro... Same feels here🙏
You want to see the Pulse Tour Version 1994. Simply The Greatest Live Guitar Solo Ever Done In History. DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE VIDEO... every second is awesome.
One never ever interrupts a Gilmour solo
The guitar strap you see was a gift from Dave Gilmour's wife... it belonged to Jimi Hendrix.
Careful, David will melt your face off with that sh*t. )
Check out In Any Tongue from the same concert. It's an anti-war song with another stunning guitar solo.
Just FYI, Ice-T isn’t just an actor. He started out as a rapper, former gang member and also created his own metal band called, BODY COUNT. Here’s his explanation of his love for hardcore/ metal. I sparked up my pipe for this reaction..... any time it's "The Floyd"- David Gilmour
You should listen to The Great Gig In The Sky on Dark Side of the Moon by Floyd.
Most of Pink Floyds, and probably Led Zeppelins back catalogue would be viewed as self-indulgent in how they chose to make music back then. The results have stood the test of time however, and will far outlive the pop pulp that dominates the charts these days.
Didn't you already do this brother?
I'm old, but Pink Floyd is STILL my fave, by far!

Good rendition but the best concert goes to Pulse live.

Love PF but loved them more when Rick was alive with Nick Mason. Waters wasn't missed.
I think the pluce version on 94 was better
