The 5 Mechanics That Will Become The META In 2021

- This video goes over what the Rocket League META is evolving toward. In 2021, I think these are the 5 mechanics that will be used most often, relative to how frequently they are used in competitive play currently.

Rocket League has so many mechanics you can learn in game. However, pretty much every mechanic has been learned by pro players to this point. In Rocket League's current state, the META is no longer coming down to inventing new mechanics, but instead, it's coming down to seeing which mechanics will be the most useful in competitive play. The 5 mechanics in this video are what I believe will be the most important in 2021.

Bruh how do all of you already know how to do the twist flip by accident??? Lmaooo
Bruh I do it on purpose lmao
we just know chief. also add the the breezi pop that was discovered like 2 days ago and the apparently jack kickoff. Both real game changers. Love the vid, this is exactly the kind of stuff I wanted.
S5Xeno_Catalyst123 fr😂 I thought it was a standard thing for anyone with decent arial mechanics
I do it because my ps4 left joystick is unreliable on front+back flips so I do twist flips instead.
I just mess around with my flips
Me realizing that the drop down catch is just me messing up my aerial
How do you think I learned it
But if you get a quick follow up touch it instantly becomes a high level mechanic. 😉
It's all about the approach. You gotta catch them off guard when they are prepared to pounce.

The "twist flip" is something the top players have been doing for a while. I'd say it's biggest use is being able to turn almost any first touch into an air dribble while regular air dribbles are wildly first touch dependant

For the twist flip (answering all the commenters who are having trouble) It is a diagonal flip canceled. Then you have to hold diagonal in the original direction (so top left for diagonal left flip) to execute the actual mechanic. So basically think of the circle or cross that is your analog stick. You would jump, start your flip in the left direction for a left flip, go in the exact opposite way to CANCEL the flip, then you go back to the original way you push your stick for the flip. So your analog stick is going in 3 positions during this flip. For left: top left, bottom right, top left. For right: top right, bottom left, top right. try that in training and let me know how it goes! - JaM

Just started the video and saw the twist flip, this is also something I realised a few pros doing in videos and I’ve being trying to get good at it too recently, really useful for really any awkward follow up hits of the wall

Once again, Wayton proves he is one of the best RL content creators. Criminally under subbed. Keep up the great work! I’m always excited to see your new videos
Couldn’t have said it any better. Feels like he’s one of the only rocket league youtubers who actually puts out interesting new content
If only one of these become the meta, can we agree hes isnt? The twist flip is about the only thing that has a real chance to become meta.
True

Yo! I was the streamer who gave you advice in pogostuck. Just wanted to say i have actually watched your videos before and they really helped me push to plat, thanks alot. I hope beating pogostuck went well.

amazing video. very well done. absolutely loved the preview for the next topic
Quality video man! Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Really enjoyed it ❤
The twist flip and the drop down shot are things I've learned by accident from just practicing my mechanics. The way I learned the twist flip is by just jumping off the side walls in free play and cancelling my flip. Doing this, as well as holding directional air roll can help you pull it off more consistently and with more accuracy. Hope this helps someone!
I've watched 2 min of this video and I'm already amazed
thank you wayton, for uploading Rocket League
It looks like you put a lot of effort in with friends to get footage of the different situations, that's some next-level commitment to RL content! Great job!
this is so well made in many ways, good job dude

"here's the deal"
after he said that the etoro ad with Simon and Joe came up and it worked perfectly
Ok so I'm going to explain how the twist flip works for Wayton: The way it works is that when you cancel and flip you're essentially creating momentum and speed but you're not moving that much when compared to a regular flip (this is of course due to the stall factor) the unstall rights the car so that your nose is facing upwards where the ball should be. Sometimes you can also get an extra soft touch with the hood of your car when you are flip canceling. For those who want to learn it the way to put it is simple: you do a normal front flip but stall (which is reversing the joystick in whatever direction you originally flipped in IMMEDIATELY after you flip it). The stall is not a perfect back stall however, it is more of a back diagonal right or back diagonal left depending on which airroll you are using. Then you boost while flipping, airroll so you don't hit the ground on your side and powerslide to keep your momentum (this is on the ground speed flipping).
*Sorry for the essay but hopefully this helped some of yall understand it and maybe even help you guys pull it off*
These insights are absolutely blowing my mind!
Keep killing it out there Wayton!
Phenomenally made vid, hope it pushes to the 1M view mark. Much love dude!

5 Reasons Why Wayton Pilkin Will Be The Fluump of 2021
Wayton, holy shit you're popping off. I havent watched much rl content on youtube in so long, i subscribed to you when u had like 40-60k subs, and YOU'RE AT 210K RN. your content has been super good w/ good quality, it makes me happy how big you're getting. 1M soon.
I use that dropdown catch all the time as a way to catch a fast moving ball while in an aerial and turn it into an air dribble. It gives you another option instead of being forced to double tap. Catch the ball on a front wheel, diagonal air roll away from it to get it traveling the same velocity as you, flip around underneath it, and it's stuck on your nose. I've got a couple of videos using that on my channel.
Well, looks like I'm gonna have to spend some extra time in freeplay
thanks so much for this dude! i met you in a private match with my friend i think and my friend was freaking out because he knew you were a youtuber but i didn’t know 😂
*Amazing Video!* Great job Wayton

Apparently jack kickoff I’d say has potential to change the meta as well

Wow man, your videos really stand out in content and editing. Keep it up!
I love watching these videos because it just makes me more motivated to learn new skills for fun even though I'm complete garbage
The "twist flip" is the messed up version of the "speed flip".
Change my mind
100% ive been doing the “twist flip” ever since i started trying to learn to speed flip, its just a messed up speed flip. but dont get me wrong it is useful in a lot of situations
This is so clutch, I’m about to do 1 month of sweaty training, thanks for being a good youtuber

I feel like I'm watching Evample compilation... that dude is using all those skills all the time
Thanks man super helpful vid
You earned a sub with your clear spoken commentary and you called me highly skilled cuz I do the drop down
Drop down shot will be less useful in lower mmr because people are monkeys and will immediately challenge instead of covering net
Gotta love those ball chasers
it's interesting that you don't hold one of your bumpers when starting the twist flip. imo it's way easier to just push your stick forward when flipping + it's a perfect diagonal flip so it ends up being more predictable and consistent
Congratulations on 200K subs!
The beat thing i love about the vid is the "Probably" 0:19
Btw I think evample started the “twist flip”or popularized it

Love these tips thanks and keep it up
Who else is part of that top 9.9 percent?
Am I the only one that gets triggered when he does a twist flip and doesn’t go for a flip reset off it?
That deserves a sub, nice vid man
Thank you for the info ☺️
How the hell do I do the twist flip, I search for a tutorial and found 0.
He kinda explained it. It is a diagonal flip + cancel (holding air roll while cancelling) then release cancel but still holding air roll, your car will do an akward move but that is the basics of it. Its hard as fuck

I appreciate the time it must of taken to make this. Great video! 👍
alot of people use the twist flip when doing a dbl flip reset! So they fake the double by uncancelling last second and using the pop up a bit earlier as you’re showing as a pop. Really useful lol
4:48 I swear that shit is unreadable, it can go 3 ways with equal chance. No way someone could perfect that
Physics isn't based on chance. If you replicate that shot exactly it will still bounce like that. (Was your comment a joke?)
Keep believing that everyone are so bad that wont be able to read that. Freestylers already are doing that.
THE DROPSHOT IS JUST PLAT AREALS
The part where you shows whats up next is really cool hope you keep on doing it
Great video man!
They call that flip the “glue” not twist flip
who says that exactly?
Sam Howe all the pros, squishy was talking about how jstn and sypical always get it perfectly
I always thought "the glue" is referring to the simple concept of maintaining ball control on the nose of the car while in the air, not really a specific mechanic.
im godl and i can air drilbbe is that ogol
lol
I found this video very insightful and helpful. First of all I've been trying to implement the twist flip into my game after seeing so many other people do it, but couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Same thing with the drop down catch, though I've had some success with that. I would disagree with you slightly on your application of wave dashes. I think they are great for recoveries and have some application in dribbles, but when going around the field the diagonal flip cancel (musty kickoff flip) is way more efficient than a wave dash. Even in your example about doing a straight front flip and hitting the ball with your wheels - if you did a diagonal flip cancel you would get the same effect as a wave dash, but be faster to the ball potentially beating the other player to it.
Keep up the good work sir!
you explain everything so good everyone can understand
Second

The funny thing is you’re actually first lol
Great job! New sub for that.
I really liked this vid pls post more of this series
I've been doing the drop down touches forever, but it developed naturally as a way to keep the ball close when leaving the defensive zone (as opposed to booming away possession). Transitioning it into an offensive move is a great idea! Now I just gotta master the catch at the end...
good vid man!
Really great video
Thanks sm for the twist flip I’ve been seeing it like crazy wondering what it is
Amazing video 🤩
I've been subbed for a while my dude! Definitely the most underappreciated RL content creator. Best too imo, I'm GC in North America would love to through down with you someday. Keep the content coming! So appreciated
I started using the drop down and it’s awesome
The aerial fake / tummy bump is so OP. I do it all the time, especially when you notice things changing up in front of you, instead of banging the ball, just rotate, tummy bump to keep possession and carry on upfield :)
lol the passive-aggressive zoom on the boost hog 6:39, nice
Couldn't agree more with all of these points. Especially the Musty and Wavedashing ones. I Wavedash all the time in neutral positions on the field so I always have some sort of momentum or short burst to catch the opponents off guard if the ball comes my way. To add on to it, wavedash dribbles are very underused. If perfected, they can change the direction of the ball faster than any other method, without even losing the dribble. It lets you cut the ball and flick it in the same possession.
my man you are the best rl tutorial channel ive ever seen lets get you to 300k
such a good video amazing editing too
Seen a nasty side wavedash from Brezzi in the middle of an RLCS game and now its a top 10 highlight so you're completely correct xD
