It's really gotta rustle a lot of jimmies that it beat a R8 V10. That and the focus RS literally is a modified econobox. The Type R is a heavy redesign of the civic platform, which starts like 7k more than the focus platform. This doesn't matter though, the times do. Type R was a full 20 seconds faster than the focus; also beating the GTR, all the Golfs, the Porsche 997 GT3 RS, and only beat by two cars from BMW. Car kicks ass when it comes to performance, there's no argument against it in that regard. *around the Nürburgring **production cars if that wasn't obvious
Hapie Star Yea, and it's SLOWER than the older Audi R8 V8. It's a car that can put down a great lap time, but it would've been worlds better without the over the top styling. They could've still used a rear wing, just not THAT rear wing.
I didn't realize that Ford using an AWD system in a car that never had one is just a "modification." This Honda literally is a CIVIC that has been modified. I'm not certain of this, but you could likely take a base model civic and bolt every Type-R part to it, whereas an RS could not be built from a base Focus.

You guys can't stand this car. Can't call it slow. Because it ran a 7:43.8 at the nurburgring. Making it faster than The Audi R8 V10, Pagani Zonda S, Porsche 997 Turbo, Corvette Z06, BMW M3 GTS, BMW M4, Mercedes SLS AMG, Mercedes C 63 Black Series, Lamborghini Murcielago, And yes... Even your precious Ford Focus RS got annihilated buy the Fk8 Type R. Not to mention you muscle car bros in your Mustang 5.0's, Camaro SS and Challenger Srts.
So all you guys have left to fall back on is its looks. Calling it "ugly", "hideous", and the really funny part, "rice". And trying to discredit it because it's FWD, although it embarrassed most of your rwd, awd and 4wd heros... You definitley have to see this in person to appreciate the looks. I saw this thing at last year's Paris Motor Show and it looked really good (I know it was the concept but still). Don't hate the looks until you see one in person. Don't call it rice either because it's way faster round the Nurburgring than your Corsa ;)

I'm not from the US. I remember the FK2 being developed and released, and it feels like yesterday.
The FK2 was only the test bed for the new model they started testing it around 5 years ago The Fk2 had the shortest run of all the Type Rs and so we be the rarest of all the models
The FK2 debut in 2015. It was only a thing for about a year. That's crazy...it's the 4th Gen Type-R Civic, but this new one is a FK8 and it's the 5th gen already...

As a Golf R owner, if you lined up all the hot hatches and said pick one for a track it would be this car, no hesitation. Acceleration at junctions, roundabouts etc means the Golf R is more useful but I am under no illussions that the Type R is the daddy of Hot Hatches.

I would choose the M140i everyday
More power and AWD gives the RS an advantage in the wet or situations where you need maximum power at very low speeds (coming off a roundabout for instance). The Type R is much lighter which gives it a huge advantage on track, it can brake later, go round bends with more pace and can probably keep up with the RS once traction isn't an issue. Not a fan of the RS but for its price it is a great bargain and it comes with aftermarker power ups and exhaust which don't invalidate the warranty, wish VW did that.

Not just the best FWD ever, one of the best cars ever. Probably the closest you can get to a 4 wheeled motorcycle, it's light, handles amazing pretty fast. The engine is buttery smooth and loves to rev despite having alot of torque. You can shift early or you can shift bouncing off the revlimiter.

Alex, you didn't drive the car properly, when you drive a Honda, you have to hit the revlimiter for at least 3 seconds before changing gear...

Am happy with mine, got it 4 months ago. I will go to the track this year for sure. It's my daily and it's also great on the snow. 18" for winter tires, the 20" are harder to the drive, but fine.

Fire Blade you haven't watched enough of Alex's videos. The review on the Huracan was one of te best car reviews I've ever seen. It didn't have incredible shots and professional drifts but it was emotional. Alex is like a normal folk, humble and enthusiastic. Not everybody can drive like Chris Harris. Alex would be a great way to contrast personalities. While I love Chris Harris work to bits for his sensitivity, professionalism and sheer enthusiasm, I like Alex for his humility and resemblance with a normal dude who is just in love with cars. It's like putting one of us in there. Plus, of corse, they are both brutally honest in their different opinions. It would be fun to have them side by side discussing on the same cars. It would give us such a broad point of view. But that's just me, feel free to disagree

I like humor but not so dumbed down, the jokes are spoon fed. Also this guy has no real knowledge of cars, not more than any petrol head. So what exactly qualifies him for top gear? it was great to see you at the airport :) i agree, new CTR has good amount of power, great steering (r+ mode and 270km/h on highway was still without big fear from unstability), great grip in corners, for me comfortable seats but navigation and android menu is horrible.. but still great daily with good fuel consumption (averanve 10-11L) and it look awesome :)

It only changes the cam profile for the exhaust, and not for the intake (well since it got a turbo for pushing air into the engine)

Jdm fanboy The engine is Dohc, exhaust has it's own cam and valves and thus can have a cam profile that can change the amount of exhaust flow depending on the rpm. The irony of your comment...
JDM Fanboy yeah it's true. It is a variable timing system, which when it hits VTEC, it changes the cam profile for the exhaust valve thus creating different timing (thus the name 'variable timing') for the valves opening and closing.
If we excuse the exhaust, car looks awesome!

Being a 370z Nismo owner I can relate to some people saying your car is ugly for its "rice body kit" but I think the new type r looks great, and it's got the performance to back it up! If I had to go FWD I'd go with this bad boy!

Most other English or European reviewers try their best not to like this car, trash it against Focus RS and VW Golf but this guy loves it and gives it the respect it deserves for being the latest coolest fastest FWD Nurburgring champion. Refreshing to see and great review.

lol even worse....those old crapturds were only good for economics, nothing else. even the golf 2 gti is pretty crap comparing it to Honda Civic i-vt 4th gen. I mean just look at the suspension of those two and you can see that golf was made for hauling cattle and nothin much else.
Whatever it's strong and reliable as fuck. I also have a 1957 Peugeot 403 but that's another story.
+ My golf is a First hand, pretty rare for a 28 years old car. Well, kinda since it was at my parents. I like it, it's a special serie "Memphis" with a special color, 2 doors and the 1.6L D, yep Diesel, make as much noise as a tractor, but it's almost 400 000km too and still run perfecly fine without any work on the engine it self. Not bad for a "Crap"
But I totally agree with that, I never thought my golf was the ultimate sport car, it's my old reliable simple and fun familly Golf mkII, I think it does about 56Hp, that stupidly underpowered. I'm not to intrested by "Sport" cars tbh. Or classic one maybe, I would to buy a 504 coupé V6. Yeah only 136hp but who cares. I don't think you need to be going 250 km/h to have fun with driving. Direct heavy steering and light weight cars is the best you can do for having fun in driving.
