This guy gets it. You read a lot of complaining about how FWD is inferior, despite all of the objective performance data on this car. You just need to drive one once to understand how well engineered it is. The styling is aggressive for sure, but I get a lot of interest and positive comments IRL. You shouldn’t let other people’s opinions determine your life choices. Just do you.
brandondan1 I'll bet you 2 grand that I can smoke the type r in my f150 in the snow. That's what you guys don't understand about people who like awd rally cars we want an offroad experience and fast 0-60 times becuase we like that punchy feeling you only get with awd and now you're telling us to give that up. The irony of you telling people what to do while simultaneously telling people to make their own minds up is a little rich. I want a fast 0-60 because that's what gives me joy and a car that feels at home in two feet of snow drifting. The type r can't deliver on any of that.
@@marlinwasp2551 I'm puzzled as to where the OP "told people what to do" in his post? He made a valid point about a mass of ignorant people dismissing an engineering masterpiece due to its drivetrain layout. How many people crap on FWD just for the sake of it? He literally says "just do you" at the end of his post, so if you prefer your AWD F150 in off-road conditions...then great. You keep enjoying it in those conditions.
@REEL SIXX Why are you comparing a tuned VW to a stock car? A tuned Type R can be made to dust a VW, a stock one will smash it all day in the handling department. Maybe some people like a driver's car that they feel connected to and is a blast around corners, or better yet a series of them. Something no factory VW can deliver on the same level? The 2L in the Golf R/GTI etc is a very stout motor and can make a lot of power with just a reflash - I'll give it that. But not everyone wants a stoplight/straight-line machine. I'm not shitting on VW either, just sayin' - different strokes for different folks.
Type R-14267 you're right i bought the si bc i didn't like the look of it but that thing is bad ass compared to my si even though i like my si a lot. If they made the type r in a coupe id have bought it for sure..
Good to see you owners appreciate the car. Let the haters hate, fuck them. I've driven a lot of cars and NOBODY does it better than Honda. They just have that special touch.
I bought one a few months ago...one of the most impressive cars I've ever driven. Some people thinks $35K for a Honda Civic is high...I think this is an incredible bargain.
Actually I just bought a new Type R. Everything you say is spot on. I am an old guy who likes high performance Cars. I am an amateur driver, but tracked my 2017 ZL1 Camaro. A beast, 676 Hp 650 + ft.Lbs of torque, but maybe too much for me. Powerful, but stiff and twitchy no what matter the suspension mode you put it in.The Type R is so easy to drive at high speeds on a track or road. 3 modes nicely modulated and midrange pull that is very impressive. Now it is not a ZL1, but I bet my track times would be better driving the Type R. A great car for the price. Nicely engineered. Recommend this vehicle.
I bought one and really do love it. One annoyance I haven't seen mentioned is that with all the cracks, crevasses, nubs, fins, vents and such, it's really time-consuming to wash and wax.
Do/have you driven yours in winter time? I'm about to pick mine up this week and wondering how to deal with it in winter time. I live in Vancouver Canada so lots of rain/snow. I'm assuming just get some 18's with winter tires?
The car actually looks pretty good. It's not a 0-60 machine but lemme tell you this... This is one of the best cars in terms of turning in and tuning in with the rhythm of a road, and I owned FR, MR, 4WD. It's simply just turn and you know exactly how much it will turn. Suspension setup is just spot-on in the Type R. It's FWD but so what? As long as you don't hit a pot hole or a man hole cover, you won't even notice. The way it accelerate makes it feel very fast, felt faster than my M5 at lower revs. Yea, the look is polarizing. The 0-60 maybe not that great. But it's just fun. I have an F10 M5, and used to have Subaru WRX STI (GR, hatchback); Honda S2000 (very pointy, but prone to too much oversteer); Acura NSX (NA1, still the best connection with the driver); Honda Civic SiR (EM1) and Honda Civic Si (FA5).
I owned a 2018 Subaru WRX STI and I traded it in for my 2018 Honda Civicy Type R. I love them both, but the Type R is just a whole different class of car. Yeah, I miss AWD sometimes. But the Type R is not over hyped at all.
I currently own a 19 Type R and 17 STI... I may have to sell my STI soon and will kind of miss the AWD launches and traction on all surfaces but I know the Type R is overall the better car for sure.
thanks for the insight. former sti owner here, currently have a 5.0, and planning on trading in for the 2020 type r with the updates once the prices drop to around 30k 👍
Bought one a couple weeks ago, best decision I made. Drove a bunch of cars like the new Mustang GT, m240i, BMW M4 - This was extremely fun. A complete package. Coming from a G37xS coupe (and a 2001 Honda Prelude before that), I really enjoy the efficiency and the power through the gears. If you disregard 0-60 time, this car really out plays its competitors and more. I was looking for a great driving experience first and foremost, and then practicality, this does both beautifully. Tossed my bike in the back the other day, I can’t say that about any other car I’ve owned or looked at lmao. The only thing is it gets a lot of attention (I don’t mind), sometimes it’s not always good attention though (got pulled over 2x already), that’s the only downside so far. But overall, I’m happy about it!
@@mrjjthor agreed and i think they will eventually go awd. 0 - 60 time is 1 of the main reasons i wont buy it yet. All the other stuff is cool but it doesnt matter if its "slow"
@CrazyLegsMcGee i dont need a deag strip. Just too slow for that money. Also i prolly wouldnt buy it unless rhey go awd. The competition is just better in my opinion
Tsch, tsch, :D got me giggling all around. I've seen every video on the Type R, there's something in common, that special feeling it provides, that smile, that crazy shiver, hate it or like, this is phenomenal! I'm in love with the Civic Type R.
I absolutely love everything about the type-R. I love the style including that rear wing. I know its not for everyone but thats what i love about it. I will definitely get one after my Si.
The Veloster N should hopefully be great. I had a 2013 Veloster Turbo I leased for 3 years, then bought a 2016 Focus ST. I might consider trading it on a Veloster N depending how good it turns out to be, and the pricing. I think the Veloster N will make a better daily driver than the Type R, at least as far as infotainment goes, and Hyundai has a better warranty than Honda. One thing I love about my Focus ST is it still has manual controls on everything you want (volume, climate control, etc), but still has a touch screen with nav when you want to use it. Too many manufacturers have gone to touch screen only. I could not stand that in my daily driver.
This car draws too much attention lol. I own mine for about a month now. Kids about 4 y/o tell me oh your car is so cool look like a Lamborghini. Couple guys 60+ y/o come up to me oh Sir is this a civic?? It comes like this with a wing? Is this all standard? Lol. Thumbs up from other drivers all the time. A truck beep me from behind just want to give me a thumbs up lol. Teenagers screaming “Type RRRRRRRR” as I drive passing by😐😐😐
And the problem with this is? I'm 65 had "built" tuner cars for years all the way back to a totally tricked out 1978 Ford Fiesta and every attempt to tweak cars ends up with rough rides, too much power to the wheels, etc. I love my CTR as it almost perfect right out of the box. I have added a MagnaFlow exhaust system for now.
I bought one of these 10 days ago. I had always disliked the "in your face" styling, but I mellowed & thought about how Honda's engineers spent time ensuring that the vortices created at the back of the roof created actual downforce in conjunction with the rear wing as opposed to merely mitigating lift. This led me to think that I don't see the spoiler when I'm driving so why worry about it when it's producing desirable aerodynamic effects. I now LOVE the look of the car because I appreciate the results of the design and I am truly buzzing whenever I drive it!
I bought one about a year ago. Still as much fun to drive as the day I got it. Love the practicality as a daily driver (huge cargo area with the seats down, great mileage, rear seats comfortable for full-sized adults) and the performance is just outstanding. Looks have totally grown on me, and my kids love it. Great review!
I got my Type R 3 days ago. I have never driven anything so fun and responsive in my life! I am excited to drive again. This car is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL!!!
I just bought a civic sport my first non American made car. I think my car is insanely fun. I would love to have a type R. By the way I'm 55 years old my 2018 sport hatch is the first Honda I've ever drove. I love my sport and yes I would buy a type R if I could afford one.
I went from a Prius to a Civic Sport Touring....it's a whole another world lmao. I don't think I'd be responsible enough for a Type R and I like my heated seats too much.
I’m 51 and just picked up a Type R yesterday. Such a practical car! And fun! Over 4,500rpm and thing pulls like crazy! The looks can be a little over the top but if it were toned down it wouldn’t be as fun a car imo. I saw spy shots of a 2020 with a smaller wing and it looks like a regular civic which is nice but it doesn’t befit the personality of the Type R imo. Yes it’s more expensive but if you look at an article to just make your regular civic look like a Type R that’s just $11,000. That’s the difference in price of a $26,000 Civic to a $37,000 Type R. That’s without any of the performance differences. Imo it’s a great bang for your buck and there are so many great reviews of this car.
I just recently bought a Type R and everything he says in this video is the absolute truth. I attack corners with reckless abandon and the front diff just figures it all out. I have never once heard the tires squeal in protest. This cars is an absolute marvel and if you enjoy driving, you need to test drive one before you buy anything else.
Being a former gdb 04 sti owner which was the rawest model from Japan can tell you once I first tested the turn in performance it understeered badly in stock form. Fast forward to end of 2018 when I took ownership of a 2018 cbp type r I was amazed how the turn in performance was. It oversteered in a very planted controllable way but gripped the road better than an awd sti.
Just got it a few weeks ago. It's a typical Michigan winter. The car has been tremendous fun with all weather tires. Very comfortable. And the drive....just puts a smile on my face. The shifter is so sweet. Coming from a very powerful Mustang that I have to fight with to change gears, this was such a blessing.
My Brother bought this Type R and let me tell ya this thing Moves FAST !! It gets up and Goes. Turns a lot of Heads too. Everywhere we went in it people were staring and some people wanted to Race. Nobody could Beat us.
I test drove this model of the Type R when it first came out in the UK in August 2017. I have always had Audi Quattro's and Golf 4 motion's. But was really impressed with the drive, handling and performance of the car. Yes it is a bit wild looking on the outside but I love it. Was at the dealer yesterday again and to me look so cool. Also Honda reliability and customer service is 5 star here at my local dealers. When the German dealerships are a waste of time. Good review and video.
I genuinely love the look of this car. I know car manufacturers have to chnage the look every so often, but man, this is one look I seriously hope they keep around. Absolutely stunning look. Just needs a better stock intercooler & a little bit of a louder exhaust, optional AWD, & this car is the best hot hatch. Still is, but it'd make it that much better.
@@rodneymacli-ing6123 that's a terrible argument to make. there are plenty of cars that have converted to an AWD system, an AWD system may be heavier, but an efficient track-focused one would be substantially better than understeering.
I own a 04 Subaru STI that I had the motor built with a closed deck block, Manley Turbo Tuff rods, JE FSR postons, BC 272 cams, AEM standalone setup for flex fuel running 100% E85, Full Race Borg Warner 8374 EFR twinscroll turbo kit. 612awhp 597 ft lbs of torque with an insanely quick accelerating spool up. It had been lightened with a full JIC titanium cat back, battery relocated in the trunk, removed spare tire, Whiteline sway bars, removed front metal bumper. Recaro driver’s seat. Until a valve head broke off in normal street speed which took out the whole motor. That was my 4th build and now done with Subaru. It has been on stands with no motor but 6MT is still in the car for over a year and a half. I just picked up a 2018 CTR and quite happy. Already planning on a flex fuel setup with larger injectors, larger fmic, Full Race turbo kit with a one step smaller Borg Warner EFR turbo and a cat back titanium exhaust. I’m thinking of selling the rolling chassis still with the 6MT to fund the CTR’s planned upgrade.
Well, I love the boldness of the body. Everything that I would have added (since I love the big wings, aero and ground effects of the STI), the Type R comes with it. I’ve built American muscle cars and have had my share of drag racing with an old English gasser (Austin A40). I have to say, this is hands down my favorite. I don’t have to trailer it to the track, just drive in beat it up a bit and drive home. It’s my family car since my four year old says “Daddy, let’s go in the fast car!” I use it. I bought it in October and currently have 22,000 miles on it. I also have gotten some time best of 45mpg. Average is 34-35 mpg. To say I love the car is an understatement. I hope everyone is enjoying theirs as much as I am!!
Got mine a few days ago #26306, Totally in love with it. Yes, the inner 12 year old in me who likes transformers could have designed it but this car isn't for everyone. This is a FUN car, its drives fun and it looks fun. If you don't like FUN this isn't the car for you.
This is the best looking car of all times I love this Type R I'm saving $ to get this beast . thanks for the positive review you nailed it I love it people underestimate Civic, if they only knew what this little cars can do. with the Type R people will respect Civic more.
I agree with everything he said! The Type R is by FAR the most impressive FWD EVER MADE BY HONDA! I think its the king of fwd. Id by this over a STI any day.
I was gonna buy the white CTR but dealer wanted $10,000 over msrp i thought it was ridiculous. Saw the SI sitting in the corner went to look at it and sat in it and that's all she wrote left with it the same day. It's not fast or slow but its FUN asf! LOVE THE SI.
I have one and this is the exact review i wanted to share with lots of people who say many things without even step in this car. man oh man this car is so unbelievable! I always keep silent when someone ask things because i cnt even believe what i'm saying. I think we all should appreciate Honda for their awesome engineering. This is my first Honda i'm actually not a fan of any other hondas but i must say with this i'm speechless.
Rev hang is desirable in the lower end cars I believe. It keep the engine delivery smoother especially in gear changes where people aren't great with a clutch. That was how it was before electronics. It's still my favourite thing. I sort of hate having to defend its looks sometimes because it's the way it drives that makes me happy, but honestly I love the looks. I had one on order without a test drive a few hours of seeing the first pictures :) But as a driver's car? Insanely good. And I can carry 2.5m lengths of timber in it when I'm not interested in apexes. That's a lie, you're always interested in apexes.
Glad they made some changes for the fl5. The infotainment has analogue dials for the stereo as well as climate control. And the pedals are closer for easier heel toeing. I'm also glad they toned down the aggressive styling as well, over all very happy with the car.
I drove one of these last night. My friend just bought one. I know nothing about what a good car is like to drive but knew almost instantly after getting in this that it was special. Beyond just being fast as hell, it's so easy to drive. Whenever I get in a manual I haven't driven before it takes me ten mins or so to start to get the hang of what's going on and get the shifting smooth. But this was telepathic, I just knew what to do right away. The way it just freight trains in the wet is crazy too. Literally no torque steer or jerking around the road on wet leaves and asphalt. Spun tires in 3rd gear with a roll on no problem. Seriously an amazing car and I wish I had one. But I'd definitely take the switch gear, infotainment, climate control system out of my base model ford focus any day, lol. Also the looks are a bit Optimus Prime meets Ryobi cordless drill. These are petty complaints after driving it though.
King if you wait, you would have a choice, particularly of the looks of the car give you any pause. Personally, I have always thought the car looked pretty cool. When you see one in person though, it’s stunning, in a race car way. My wife’s is red and looks bad ass. Then when you drive it...well it’s just amazing. I dont know if you have driven an Si, but I was shocked at how good they are too.
"You don't understand. You truly don't understand" - Just love it. Unfortunately, most people in this world just don't understand and only know flooring gas pedal in a straight line.
Traded my 2015 STI for a 17 GTI SE and after 18 months of ownership, I went out and traded the GTI for the Type R. It’s definitely more fun to drive than my STI and the GTI. It doesn’t feel like a FWD when cornering; and it’s really exciting to drive!
I think it should be AWD as an option! , ala nsx, 2 small electric motors in the rear, batteries under the rear seats, maybe 150lbs more, better weight balance, better 0-60, 1//4 mile-top speed-laptimes-mpg. If done right, ala nsx in reverse handling would dramatically increase, as each rear wheel could be over driven, along with rear wheel steering ALS, this would become not only the worlds best handling front driver, but the worlds best handling car, only needing a proper boost in power to make it perfect, maybe a 100-200 engine horsepower boost + electric power for say $5000 more. Watchout Nurburgring!
All I'll say is that having had driven the Type R and an F80 quite aggressively in the past year...I'm confident a brand new F80 is NOT twice the car a Type R can be - don't knock it til you drive it. Great video btw.
The Steering wheel control for the volume is also touch control! (use your thumb) Slide up to turn the volume up, and slide down to lower the volume. Very easy and quick way to adjust the volume!
A good reviewer, and I mean (95%) it. Rev matching is is not a nonsense replacement to heel-and-toe. I can heel and toe, but just because others can't doesn't mean it's a cr*p feature. Let people find out the possibilities themselves and explore how they may want to drive it.
I have that in red. Red is the only true color for this Honda Type R. The car sets itself apart from all others in its class. It is visually absolutely unique. And it can not just go straight at full throttle. I am not completely satisfied with the music system. That could make Honda better. Yet . It's a huge pleasure for me to open the garage door to let go of the car. Thanks Honda.
Drove this car upon the recommendation of friends who know a lot more about enthusiast cars than I. Did a 40 min test drive on windy roads because of a connection I have. Wow! Feeling completely petty that I couldn’t get past the styling. #PrayingItGetsTheAcura Treatment.
It is hard to believe that the two cars shown by Throttle House’s videos: the 306hp manual 2018 Honda Civic Type R was $43,000 CAD; and now in 2022 the 195hp manual Acura Integra A-Spec is $43,000 CAD. The economy is really going to poop with inflation and wage stagnation.
20 years ago the first civic type-R, came to the north of America, I was so regretted, I didn't own one, but today the new type-R even better, I have been searching one for myself, so went to a few big Honda dealers nearby, they had all kinds 0f civic except type-R, sales like hot cake, dealer have to wait, I also have to wait too.
Your comment is Absolutely right! Those who speak... Oh thats a just a civic. NO it's expensive than accord. Those who comment... Shhh! .just test drive a Type R and decide why this car stands apart. Driven 911-4S, 488, S6, M5. In comparison this car is not for meant for any drag racing, its absolutely fun to drive once u are in 3rd gear or more. Absolutely love my 2019 type-R and blown away with its response on cornering. Amazing car and love your comments. Type R should have some unique colors, exhaust sound could have been better with crackling noise Its no ordinary car. Fun and daily driving car
The volume slider is called a slider because of how it's used. Beside of the screen where the "button" is printed, you can just slide your finger down and it mimics a wheel/knob.
I don't have one… yet. But it's by far and away the best car I've ever driven. And that includes my best friend's 2018 Audi RS3 with the performance pack. Can't wait to get one in white
I traded in my Tesla Model3 reservation for this car. As soon as I saw it I KNEW it was going to be my car. Unlike some, I really love the looks--that's exactly why I bought it. I just did my usual Vegas to LA to Vegas trip in it (business) with a side trip thru the mountains; there's no end to the power and handling. The seats are so comfortable, but you REALLY have to watch your speed! I got tons of compliments on the car; I have a feeling that most the 'haters' are online agoraphobics that need to get out more.
The car looks like a Gundam mecha Robot. I think it fits your style. I would love to see one with unique gundam like coloring with the white, blue, red, and yellow
I agree. It don't need anything else. The si is actually excellent as well although the type r I'm sure is a whole different world. Honda really did well with their 10th gen.
This is the best car I have ever driven. Hands down. There really is no comparison. I used to say this about the S2000 and wondered how any other car would ever be able to impress me in the same way. Then I drove the Type R. Now I don't give a hoot about RWD.
I watch most of your videos, and I've owned a Type R (#02019) for nearly 3 years - BUT - somehow I've never seen this video until now!? Weird. Great video Thomas. I agree with your points. The other day, after doing a full day of AutoX beating every BMW product, C6's, 997 C2S, Exige S, etc, I put my family in it (with big clunky kids seats!) AND my [Honda] lawnmower in the trunk at the same time to bring it home from a repair. This is a great, great car for an enthusiast with some practical needs.
Yes the car is over the top, but it is truly an example of outrageous JDM styling. Since the first time seeing the white Integra typr r in college, I wanted one. So yes I bought an Ageion blue ctr last year and don't have any regerets. I test drove a 2017 STI after I had purchased the car and it didn't change my mind about the Type R.
Good point about not needing to modify these. Yet still many have been tinkered and tuned with a resulting turbo torque lump that ruins the driveability, all for the sake of some bigger Dyno numbers.
At sticker price without dealer markup its perfectly priced, when these things hit dealers were marking up 5-6k minimum. Working at a Honda Dealer I've had the chance to really drive one and its like you said an amazing experience, the only practicality issue being those DOT legal R compound tires which will not make it through a season of daily driving. Great review, the car rips when it is commanded to and drives like a civic otherwise
I'd LOVE a garish white Type-R! I can only afford one car, and I'm in stop and go for 75% of my driving. So, I'm in a garish white 17 Civic Touring. Completely agree about touch-nearly-everything! They could have skipped touch climate and added a volume knob, and ergonomics would be far more livable. Very good review.
I quite like how this type R looks. Its ridiculous but dont care. It looks brash and mean. And i like that. Its looks exactly what its supposed to do. Now if the design was toned down many would say it looks like a normal civic. Its a perfect balance of performance, reliability and practicality as far as I see and it definitely makes it in my top 10 favourite list of cars.

I test drove an STi and hated how heavy the car felt. It was like driving a boat, but without the swaying or body roll. Type R I’m sure feels much more like nimble.
Clutch and steering are mostly hydraulic. The turbo is dated and kicks in quite a bit later. This is slated to change in the 2020 overhaul, as is the STI is an old car in a new suit.
Wrx sti is slower and indeed feels like a boat. The va chassis is showing it’s age. The ej25 is so old. It’s horrendously laggy when compared to the Focus rs and type r. It’s embarrassing really for Subaru. The standard wrx engine was better to me and would make s better package in the sti chassis
@@kristophercochran8105 I prefer the ej25 I wouldn't take any other 4 banger to be honest but if had to it would be the focus rs. The feel of a boxer is just too unique and special. I bought one and really do love it. One annoyance I haven't seen mentioned is that with all the cracks, crevasses, nubs, fins, vents and such, it's really time-consuming to wash and wax.
Yeah all the dirt and mud just gets up those hard to reach cracks!
i wonder how muh a std civic bumper cover costs
Agree with that. I like to wash and wax my one and it is a time consuming job compared to other cars I have owned.
Do/have you driven yours in winter time? I'm about to pick mine up this week and wondering how to deal with it in winter time. I live in Vancouver Canada so lots of rain/snow. I'm assuming just get some 18's with winter tires?
I’ve been dreading the day i have to ceramic coat one of them
The car actually looks pretty good.
Yousaf Jamshed 2001 prelude was really good back in the day. Even now that engine is great
Yeah, but the price though.
I'm waiting for 2019 to see if Honda offers a less flashy rear spoiler for the Type R.
As I say it's an unmistakable silhouette! Some time they will understand...
You bought an Si meaning you’re a broke ass
I thought I was the only person that's self conscious about my music choice at red lights.
This was a particularly embarrassing example

Gibby's Garage unless you’re black XD!!!!!
lmao I feel like a mc asshole if I'm blasting stuff around some old people
This car draws too much attention lol.
Stephen Ellis lol don’t take my comment as something negative. My point’s they were kinda confused why a “civic” look like that.
DX LIU I get that in my old fn2 m8. Everyone eyes it up. Even undertook an aventador he was so busy eying my stock fn2.
DX Liu... those things happen to me too..
All things you said are good things
My dad has a civic type r, and I love it! It’s a work of art
People that aren't Mechanical Engineers , wont get this car . Awd adds weight it will kill power to weight with 9kw less per tonne
I just bought a civic sport my first non American made car. I think my car is insanely fun. I would love to have a type R. By the way I'm 55 years old my 2018 sport hatch is the first Honda I've ever drove. I love my sport and yes I would buy a type R if I could afford one.
Todd Howell hey bro I’m 46 and just buy a Type r 2018 last December and to be honest it’s an amazing piece of art!!!
I went from a Prius to a Civic Sport Touring....it's a whole another world lmao. I don't think I'd be responsible enough for a Type R and I like my heated seats too much.
I'm 47 and last September I bought my first Honda, a 2018 Civic Si, and I totally agree with your assessment.
This cars is an absolute marvel and if you enjoy driving, you need to test drive one before you buy anything else.
the type r carries speed so well through corners and in general that it gets you into impound land. such a FUN ride!
Your videos are the kind of in-depth review that I've been missing. Thanks so much!
Most accurate review I have seen of my car so far. Great work, especially if you don't own it.
Still is, but it'd make it that much better.
it's not type r if it's not fwd
@@rodneymacli-ing6123 that's a terrible argument to make. there are plenty of cars that have converted to an AWD system, an AWD system may be heavier, but an efficient track-focused one would be substantially better than understeering.
@@tsenif to each their own i guess.. but its gonna be always type r = fwd for me!!
get a subaru or an evo if you want awd
When I think about selling my Type R I come back to this video and it brings me back to my senses :)
Don't sell that gem, new cars only go backwards nowadays
Totally buying one. Just wished for a few improvements like better exhaust noise, oil temp gauge, rear vented brake disc
My Sonic Grey is in transit. I'm 62. Great video!
Test drove this, Si, STI, ST, GTI and R. I ended up falling in love with the ST for the price and everything it gave me. Love it no regrets!
Just purchased one and it is unbelievable. Dont comment unless you have spent a day in one
This is easily going to be a 300k plus channel. I was surprised to see only 30k subscribers. Keep up the great content!
Thanks! I’ll get there eventually I hope. Share the videos!
@@ThrottleHouse 1 million subs later...congrats!
I went out and bought one. Worth every god damn dime. Very practical, very fun to drive, and its track ready with just some new wheels and tires.
Yes i would own one. Love all the cars in this class
Got mine a few days ago #26306, Totally in love with it. Yes, the inner 12 year old in me who likes transformers could have designed it but this car isn't for everyone. This is a FUN car, its drives fun and it looks fun. If you don't like FUN this isn't the car for you.
I love my fk8 best handling car ive ever driven and thats coming from an e46 m3 coupe
Also love the zero fucks given gundam functional look
gundam lmao spot on my man

It looks like a hot wheels car! I love it
"as usual, after you drive one of these, nothing else matters", that was perfectly well said :)
Yap. Totally agree!
This is the best looking car of all times I love this Type R I'm saving $ to get this beast . thanks for the positive review you nailed it I love it people underestimate Civic, if they only knew what this little cars can do. with the Type R people will respect Civic more.
So, did you get the Type R?
@@christianspear6322 I did after saving for 4 months
@@minhtikeaung7778 congrats on you mate
The trans in the Type R, is upgraded from what's in the regular, and SI trims of the Civic. That might explain why the shifts feel more positive.
I agree with everything he said! The Type R is by FAR the most impressive FWD EVER MADE BY HONDA! I think its the king of fwd. Id by this over a STI any day.
You summed up beautifully everything I love about my FK8!!! The driving experience is truly awesome.
Love it or hate it it really is a great car I love driving it and I'm 60.
This review is freaking perfect even to date. This review explains it very well. He says everything I was thinking or believe.
I love my Championship White Honda Civic Type R. Just bought it a month ago and am totally in love.
I had one on order without a test drive a few hours of seeing the first pictures :)
But as a driver's car? Insanely good. And I can carry 2.5m lengths of timber in it when I'm not interested in apexes. That's a lie, you're always interested in apexes.
Rev hang is for emissions.
I think the Type R is gorgeous. The car has presence. Just bought a ‘19 for my wife.
Not everyone is a Mechanical Engineer, weight adding awd effects handling on a track + 9kw a tonne will be loss with 100kg added weight
I recently found a liking for M cars but they are super hyped up.
Love my 2018 CTR. Best daily driver slash weekend track car. This car is truly impressive in its stock form on track.
20 years ago the first civic type-R, came to the north of America, I was so regretted, I didn't own one, but today the new type-R
even better, I have been searching one for myself, so went to a few big Honda dealers nearby, they had all kinds 0f civic except
type-R, sales like hot cake, dealer have to wait, I also have to wait too.
Type R should have some unique colors, exhaust sound could have been better with crackling noise
Its no ordinary car. Fun and daily driving car
Bought mine at 2017. 2020 still watching this. 😂
The volume slider is called a slider because of how it's used. Beside of the screen where the "button" is printed, you can just slide your finger down and it mimics a wheel/knob.
thanks for the review. Haterz will hate, but this car remains.
I don't have one… yet. But it's by far and away the best car I've ever driven. And that includes my best friend's 2018 Audi RS3 with the performance pack. Can't wait to get one in white
I raced a alpha Romeo suv the 500 hp one in my CTR. Let’s just say both of us were impressed with each other’s cars. I was half a car ahead.
I need your clothes, your boots, and your Type R... and your job...
Love the Type R absolute weapon of a car makes me smile , I’m one lucky man 👍👍👍
I have buy one in Spain with 3 years because this video. THANKS!
The car looks like a Gundam mecha Robot. I think it fits your style. I would love to see one with unique gundam like coloring with the white, blue, red, and yellow
this car is amazing more fun than anything i have ever driven
I'm getting mine next month from the dealer. Can't wait. Great review! Thanks!!
Now I don't give a hoot about RWD.
plus the type r walks the s2k
I own one as a daily, badge 02511. Let a co worker drive mine at lunch, he traded in his WRX that weekend.
I'm lucky enough to own one of this baby, not the best car I ever drive, but it's the only car I would like to drive it forever
I have a "No Good Racing" sticker on the back glass of my Natalia (R-16184). That is why no AWD Civic. Tradition.
Thank you. That was very good. Would I buy one? It's a Honda. If they sold rocks, I'd buy them!
I have one in black. It definitely blends in much more than the white or the Red. So far, great car!
This car is ray of light in a grey car world. For people with their own well balanced way of life and thinking.
Thank you throttle house!

Best Type R review so far
Haters gonna hate but these haters probably drive a beat up car.
I test drove an STi and hated how heavy the car felt. It was like driving a boat, but without the swaying or body roll. Type R I’m sure feels much more like nimble.
Turbocharged Dude Yea the clutch the steering the shifter, everything feels heavy. I was also disappointed by the acceleration.
Clutch and steering are mostly hydraulic. The turbo is dated and kicks in quite a bit later. This is slated to change in the 2020 overhaul, as is the STI is an old car in a new suit.
Its probably slower
Wrx sti is slower and indeed feels like a boat. The va chassis is showing it’s age. The ej25 is so old. It’s horrendously laggy when compared to the Focus rs and type r. It’s embarrassing really for Subaru. The standard wrx engine was better to me and would make s better package in the sti chassis
@@kristophercochran8105 I prefer the ej25 I wouldn't take any other 4 banger to be honest but if had to it would be the focus rs. The feel of a boxer is just too unique and special. I also would point out honda cheated their lap time by modifying their car they wouldn't modify it if they didn't have to. I find it laughable that someone would even suggest a fwd car as a replacement for an offroad rally car.
Just bought a new one in championship white. Can't wait until next week. Good honest review. 👍
Really helping to push me to not modding my 18 Si and getting a Type-R and dedicated winter car instead. :)
