The Bible presents fasting as something that is good, profitable, and beneficial. The book of Acts records believers fasting before they made important decisions (Acts 13:2; 14:23). Fasting and prayer are often linked together (Luke 2:37; 5:33). Too often, the focus of fasting is on the lack of food. Instead, the purpose of fasting should be to take your eyes off the things of this world to focus completely on God. Fasting is a way to demonstrate to God, and to ourselves, that we are serious about our relationship with Him. Fasting helps us gain a new perspective and a renewed reliance upon God.
Although fasting in Scripture is almost always a fasting from food, there are other ways to fast. Anything given up temporarily in order to focus all our attention on God can be considered a fast (1 Corinthians 7:1-5). Fasting should be limited to a set time, especially when fasting from food. Extended periods of time without eating can be harmful to the body. Fasting is not intended to punish the flesh, but to redirect attention to God. Fasting should not be considered a “dieting method” either. The purpose of a biblical fast is not to lose weight, but rather to gain deeper fellowship with God. Anyone can fast, but some may not be able to fast from food (diabetics, for example). Everyone can temporarily give up something in order to draw closer to God.
By taking our eyes off the things of this world, we can more successfully turn our attention to Christ. Fasting is not a way to get God to do what we want. Fasting changes us, not God. Fasting is not a way to appear more spiritual than others. Fasting is to be done in a spirit of humility and a joyful attitude. Matthew 6:16-18 declares, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

I am Romanian and , since I turned 35, I started to join a local church and I meet a great lady who used to have 3 days in a row fasting and also was praying constantly . She is still very active, has now around 92 years old, she has a extremely sharp mind, still fasting for 3 days in a row weekly , and she was able to recollect all events regarding our friendship. For me, to meet her was one of the most challenging and important moment in my life, she convinced me that the age is really just a number, we don’t have enemies except our behaviours, but if we have a good discipline every day and if we are constantly connection with our Good, we can push the boundaries, to. Improve every single day. I would like to add something: her 3 days of fasting are without food at all, only with minimal sips of water when she is very thirsty. And the rest of the week she is fasting in the day time and eating only in the evening, but not much and very healthy food. She likes the traditional food, fresh cooked, she doesn’t use alcohol.

The best part is you don’t think about food all the time when even you are not hungry, when I am not fasting I can see that when I make delicious food for my family I eat a lot of times with them in a day, and I want to keep eating ( I am not fat mind you ) it’s worth to do it, for your focus, body, mind, it changes everything, it’s like you’re a totally different person when you’re fasting.

I’m a 68 year-old intermittent faster (16:8) with a BMI of 23.8. The most valuable takeaways that I learned since I started fasting was validated by you in this podcast:
    • Eat Whole Foods
    • Use healthy oils
    • Eliminate toxin
    • Noted change in relationship with food
    • Noted change in insulin sensitivity
    •Noted change in energy level
    • Increase in creativity and problem-solving skills
Avoiding any foods that have preservatives is really the key, and basically those are foods that come in a bag, box, or can.
Intermittent fasting has worked incredibly well for me. I was successful in changing my set point weight from 150 to 130.

@@joolspools777 I can't speak for the OP but I've always naturally fasted too, except for a few years when I was clinically obese (due to a trauma). I think it's because when I was little, food was scarce, so I grew up eating in food-opportunity windows and then not eating for a while.
I think my body is used to fasting on a regular basis, and that's why it's easier. When I eat three meals a day like we're expected to do here in the US, I feel sluggish and brain-fogged.

This really hit home as I was once in a relationship where my partner forced me to go keto because he was on it. The week before my period, I would be ravenous but if he even caught me drinking orange juice or eating something like peanuts or a banana, he'd put me down and tell me that I wasn't taking my weight loss seriously. Eventually he banned those items from our home. I lost weight but I also lost my period and my hair began to fall out in chunks. We'd vacuum and have to cut the hair out of the bottom of vacuum cleaner every single time with a scissors. Eventually, I became really depressed and lethargic all the time. Id buy food at a gas station and wolf it down before he got home. Everytime I expressed that women's body's were different than men, he would shut me down and tell me that he did the research and that everyone is the same. Wish I could send him this video that shows SCIENCE proves him wrong but we aren't together any longer. Im now at a healthy weight, still do intermittent fasting but I also listen to my body and much happier now without that person😁

Please tell me, do you constantly eat once each other day?
      Or only for several weeks?
When u don't eat once every other day,
do you have one single meal a day?
What do you eat with your meal:
proteins, leafy greens, legumes or healthy carbs?
I would love to eat as rarely as possible, as long as i keep my health/energy level.
I have also been thinking of having an entire day of fasting once or twice a week.
Two days in a row only with tea/water would be better than 2 separate days within a week?

    • @makokx7063
      @makokx7063 9 місяців тому +10

      @@janka482 Thanks for the questions.
Sorry to hear about the IBS, I had a bout myself when I was younger. It's a nightmare scheduling your life around being near a bathroom.
I usually just do one meal a day.
      Maybe 2-3x a month I'll go a couple days.
I get a little sick if I eat soon after waking up and I'm never hungry for lunch so 90% of the time I only eat 1 meal and nothing else, just water, too.
I do on occasion have a coffee with some milk and the milk would of course break the fasting effect.
Also I'm not religious about it.
If I go to a BBQ in the afternoon I will eat something. I'll also grab a drink with friends at night well after I had my meal. It's my standard routine but I have no problems enjoying special occasions.
I'd say most of my food is just animal products and veggies. I don't keep track of the nutrition, just make what I want. I'll usually have a nice chunk of meat with some kind of sauce. A nice chicken thigh with steamed broccoli + carrots, maybe some tomatoes covered in a sauce (butter, garlic, onions, cream, chicken stock) kind of deal. Maybe some baked fish with lemon and asparagus and a salad.
I've never had an attachment to carbs really. Bread and pasta don't have any taste to me and are just vehicles for the foods that actually taste good so I just eat those foods on their own.
I do however have the occasional cheeseburger or pizza, again, I'm not religious about it.
For me energy is never a problem. The only time things get hard is if I go on vacation and regularly eat bad, after a few days of that I can feel my mood swing, brain fog, energy flux etc. I'd say most important thing is just to experiment and find out what works for you.
I have a great friend who eats like a squirrel. Every hour he's nibbling on something and he seems to be doing just fine.
The OMAD and low carb life just fits for me although I would HIGHLY suggest to anyone who hasn't to try it at least once in their lives.
Low Carb, Good Exercise, OMAD, 3 month.
Anyone with any conditions though, including IBS should likely consult with someone beforehand. 99% likely going to be ok but the body is a complicated machine.
      Best of luck!

@@makokx7063 thank you so much for the detailed answer, that was very kind of you!
I have also noticed i feel better if i eat more fats, proteins, vegetables and less carbs.
Of course one has to improve first their medical conditions before finding the best diet for themselves.
I wish you succeed in whatever you do, u still have disciplined your body to a way greater extent than most people,
even if you are not religious about it.

Even a prayer to work needs people who fast. ( Fasting and praying can change your life. Als Jesus talked about. His disciples asked him after failing to pray for a person who was demonized. Jesus told them you can do by FASTING and PRAYING .
So a body is healed at the same time the prayer works.
