This episode has me appreciating being an African living in Africa because 80% of the food we eat comes straight from the farmers and I’m so thankful for that.

I am 81, always active, exercise most days and I am normal weight, eating plant based for 10 years. I eat healthy organic 95% of the time. I started getting a stomach at about 75 with no changes in my routine. I am now skipping dinner and I am slowly starting to loose my belly and am feeling better than I have in a long time.

Indeed! But you never know if those things would bring good or bad mental health to a particular person. If you are not ready or choose a bad partner you may end up in huge anxiety and depression.
I am happy with my family but if I had started a family earlier in life with my ex partner I would have been burried in pain for sure.

Not if your not mentally healthy with food. Food is used as a celebration, it’s used to help sadness, anxiety and Boredom for a lot of people. I’m a happy person, but my love and dependence on food is not healthy. I agree that food can be a mental health issue but that doesn’t mean you aren’t a happy loving person that enjoys your family.

I think it says a lot about a persons ability to listen to other people when they make comments like this. Suggesting it's the bigger issue than what was discussed here implies you believe you know more on the subject. & one can't really spread peace & happiness if their mental health is tanking so it also screams toxic positivity to boot.

I'm probably one of them rare cases. Alcoholic for about 22 years. My last 2 i was taking about 5 pints to the face daily. The last year withdrawals almost killed me. Coma, BAC of 39%, 1st stages of cirrhosis. Delirium like crazy. Shakes. All of it. After relapses and multiple hospitalizations where once I couldn't walk due to so many vitamins and minerals deprecated out of my body. July 23, 22 was the day I officially put all drugs and alcohol down. November 5, 2023 215 lbs and I said enough is enough. Read her book. Read David Goggins, listened to Andrew Huberman got into my circadian rhythm, fasted, drank my electrolytes, take my creatine, vitamins, minerals daily, meal prep 4 months after I was 125 lbs. Currently 125 lbs i don't want to pick up or do any drugs. It's a hard lonely road but my gosh i feel and look better than I ever did. I'm about to be 37 and doing a marathon Dec 8. Anything is possible, if YOU want to achieve it! Fasting saved my life. Thank you Dr. Mindy!😊 i run 3 to 5 miles a day along with 30 mins of weightlifting.
If anyone would love to give me kudos, words of encouragement or witness my transformation follow me on IG: AngieRuns2024
Thank you all for these kind words. All of you truly helped me these past days with all these comments. My marathon is about 2 weeks away, did I mention it's my 37th birthday as well?!

I stumbled upon Dr. Pelz’s interview about 4-5 mos ago. I was in this cycle of just being tired all the time, being so emotional and angry before my period. Gaining wt eventhough I don’t believe I eat a lot. I read her book, started wearing a CGM and just slowly easing into the fasting lifestyle. I now have done 2 72 hrs of fasting without a struggle. I’m currently on my 3rd try for the 72 hrs fasting. I used to love chocolate that I can finish a big toblerone in one sitting. Now, I have a hard time finishing one piece of chocolate. I’ve changed my taste buds and it’s unbelievable. I’ve lost some weight but don’t stress with the number in the scale. I feel good and that’s what matters 😊

FINALLY, I am 66 yrs old and it took this long to find someone who knows the proper answers . Thank you Mindy. To have someone explain that nutrition creates your hormones was all I needed to hear. Now I know what direction to go in. None of my Doctors where "teaching" me anything about menopause. Was fasting the way to go, low calorie? I've tried every direction. After retiring from 45 years of shift work, at least I realize that now I can get proper sleep. You helped add another piece to my puzzle. Thanks, I will be following you....Great Podcast JAY!!!!!

Wow! As a child of the 80's, I was taught that males and females were all basically the same and so I always resented my monthly cycles and the physical/emotional delicacies that came with being a woman - they felt like a burden or a curse. But, thanks to hearing Dr. Mindy, I have a better appreciation for the roll that female hormones play and the unique complexities of the female body. This information was so helpful! I can't wait to read her books on fasting and eating. I know they will help me navigate my journey through menopause. Wish she'd been there when I was 20. Great interview!

I’m 48 and I’ve been vegan for 15 years, mostly whole foods. I rarely have cravings for bad food and I mostly snacks on fruits and nuts. If I’m away on holiday and can’t keep up with a whole foods diet, my body starts craving veggies. My favourite dinner is Buddha bowl and I add as many plants as possible. What I eat for breakfast makes me feel satisfied and energised for hours. I do usually go for over 12 hours without food, and I don’t wake up hungry at all. I don’t normally have low energy throughout the day (unless I work on my feet carrying stuff without breaks all day - then I get home knackered). I feel that, what I eat makes me feel happy and loving life. I also walk a lot (10km a day) and practice capoeira, so that might help with my mood too. Since becoming vegan, I never had period cramps again, and I never have headaches. Despite I’m “slim” (I wear small), I do have body fat, specially belly. According to my smart scale, most of my body fat is subcutaneous, and I have “excellent” visceral fat. I consume a lot of healthy fats (everyday I eat tofu, nuts and one avocado + I use a lot of olive oil), and my cholesterol is high because of my HDL (which is 92), LDL 94 and triglycerides is 62. All my family have really high cholesterol, and they are all overweight

      What is your fast like?

    • @gamecrusher2024
      @gamecrusher2024 2 місяці тому +9

Yes, fasting is much easier than people think. The problem is, they forget that they are fasting for however many hours they are sleeping, as well. All they have to do is, subtract their sleeping hours from their fasting window and that is the actually time that they are going without food. For example: I fast for 16 hours and sleep for 8. So, in reality, I am only "fasting for 8 hours. Which isn't very long at all. I hope this makes sense.

The biggest mistake people make with their fasting is eating a high fat heavy meal once a day and thinking they’re fasting. You gotta eat clean during the open window.

Here we only have 7.33 Hours to max 7.57 Hours daylight in winter today. I love the advices of Doc Mindy, reading her book Fast like a girl. At my age of 70 it is a bit difficult but will try her fasting advice for theroïd disease Hashimoto. I just start slowly. Using raw cloves works great as tea before bedtime makes my cold feet warm and feeling relaxed, in the morning I eat them raw about 5 pieces to fresh up my mouth while walking the dog as inflammatoir ingrediënt for fibromyalgia. Kind regards Yvonne fm the Netherlands

Post Menopause is worse than anything I've felt in my whole entire life. It's like if you enjoy something 1 day you will pay for it the next four days in pain. So it's good to have organic foods daily and exercise and less fats the lesser the body pains get.

Currently working with a Naturopath for my gut health issues (severe bloating, constipation, fatigue, inability to lose weight, poor skin health, etc). Started fasting for the first time in my life. Enjoy doing an 18-19 hr fast each day..but I would advise those with gut health issues (IBS/SIBO) to not just eat eat eat during their eating window. It is crucial to have about a 4 hr gap in between meals and about 3-4hrs of no eating before bed. So, that means I eat 2 meals per day (in my eating window with a 4 hr break in between). Zero snacking. I am blowing on a device several times a day to see how I'm digesting. Thus lifestyle looks MUCH better on the device than when I was trying to have a nibble here and a nibble there. Just a tip for those that have gut issues and hear that they can eat whatever/ whenever within their "eating window". It's not quite like that. You may feel a lot better with 2 meals and no eating for 4 hrs, at least, in between those 2 meals.
