Defeat Jeep JL or JT ESS - Smart Stop Start

- The Smart Stop Stop module is a great way to keep your ESS settings in your JL or JT for half the price of a Tazer. No more hitting the ESS button to stop the start stop madness. Of course the Tazer does other things also, but I plan on using JScan instead of a Tazer. This device only addresses the ESS system. And does so flawlessly. This is a job for small hands. It isn’t difficult, just a tight part of the dash. I did order extension cables for the Secure Gateway (SGW) module from Z Automotive to make accessing the SGW easier in the future. I am not sponsored and bought this with my own $.

@@SecretSquirrelOffroad I want to thank you for your video, after spending, no joke, over an hour last night unsuccessfully trying to get the original plugs in the SGW, I installed the ZAutomotive Extender tonight in 10 minutes! You saved my sanity and many many curse words! Now I can easily unmarry the Tazer and go to the dealer for service! Thanks man!
Glad it helped. That’s one of the reasons I started this channel. The aim was to share what I learn either from pouring over forums or just digging into the issue. I’m learning as I go, why not share? This job was more frustrating than getting the battery into an AJT key fob. Love them, but not looking forward to battery changes. Thanks for watching!
? How is it working
?
Is the small battery still being use ( Is it only when you first start the jeep
Thanks for the info
The small battery (aux) is no longer in the Jeep. No problems after about one year. I swapped an H7 battery for the main for some extra battery power. There is a video up on my channel about that as well. The Smart Stop System has been flawless. Thanks for watching!
Start/stop is the biggest asshole move by Jeep, IMO. I did the auxiliary battery delete which I thought would cure it. I did it for 2 reasons, actually - one, it was acting like a parasite and draining my main battery constantly and two, to get rid of the stop/start feature. While it did help in the main battery department, it did nothing for the stop/start. I think I’m going to go this route. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My Aux went down in the middle of an obstacle off-road. I bought an H7 battery on the drive home, deleted aux and never looked back. If you like the start stop system, just add JScan for a lot of functions on a taser for less $. Thanks for watching and yours is a great channel btw! Subbed.
@@SecretSquirrelOffroad Thanks, man! Yeah, I was on a steep hill climb here in SoCal and I had to come to a complete stop and the start/stop kicked in and then my truck wouldn’t start! Hahahahaha! In the middle of a climb! 😳 Definitely gonna do this!
If I just hit the button every time to turn off the stop/start button when I turn on the vehicle, do i have anything to worry about regarding the aux battery going dead?
Not aside from normal battery life of the aux battery. The drawback to the aux battery in my opinion is when it goes dead it will take the main down with it in many cases. I didn’t like that variable in the electrical system.
@@SecretSquirrelOffroad , thank you. I plan on keep hitting the button in my 2023 Gladiator to turn off the start/stop feature and keep a close eye/ear if I have any trouble starting the vehicle regarding the regular battery. I purchased my Gladiator used with less than 13,000 miles and purchased an extended warranty to 75,000 miles hoping to avoid any issues or out of pocket expenses for the aux battery.
Good plan. Thanks for watching!
Yes you do, the aux battery is basically a separate issue from the auto stop start, but they are inter-related. The aux batteries are really low quality, I have had them die for no reason in less than 2 years. When they die, they sap power from the main battery which can ruin it to a point where it can't be re-charged, and the jeep won't start. Best bet is to move the aux battery (there are 4-5 different methods for achieving this) and then use a programmer like in this video or a tazer to disable Auto stop/start.
