    You probably don’t remember this, but about a year ago I was at your place, Chris and Bec were installing the rear locker on my JK and my buddy Andy was helping you with the coil overs on the Juggy. The juggy didn’t have a battery in it, but we were able to use my jump box to start it… that’s the jump box you should get. I love that thing and it’s saved more people that I can remember.
    Well… I guess you don’t really need it now. LOL ❤😅

      How much of a PITA was it to install? I am considering one of those dual battery kits for my JK. About to add three new amps for the sound system. According to my installer, I should be ok as is, but I have my doubts. Any input is appreciated.

    Love your channel. I had to comment here. I have been a technical trainer for several European car manufacturers. On newer vehicles the module that controls the charging rate is programed for different batteries. For example a BMW can be programed for the earlier lead acid batteries (the ones that you have to check the water level) or the later deep cycle batteries. While the batteries perform fine, they can damage the alternator. I don't have experience with changing out a deep cycle battery with a lithium Ion battery, but it could wind up damaging the alternator or the module that controls the charging system. Keep up with the great videos!

    I’ve got 2 hacks for this. 2020 rubicon 2.0L turbo with auxiliary battery start/stop. First, You can put an LED receiver hitch light in there and plug in the 5-pin trailer connection and the Start/stop will be disabled. Secondly, just disconnect the negative battery cable coming from the auxiliary battery, and remove fuse F-42 and works fine. No issues or alerts other that I see ‘start stop disable note after start-up. I have the original H-7 in there and it is still fine and it’s over 7-years old. I’ve got the Odyssey Jeep H-7 but haven’t installed it yet. LI batteries usually don’t take heat or jarring. Just saying. Appreciate your production!

    Just 4 weeks ago I replaced the main battery in my JL. When it needs replacing I'll seriously consider the AntiGravity battery if the auto parts store does not honor the standard battery warranty. This is the third battery since 2019, so even at the higher cost for the Antigravity battery it will pay for itself if it truly lasts for 8 years. BTW, I do have a trickle charger on the new battery. Thanks for sharing

    JINX! Watched this and two days later my aux battery failed spectacularly, taking the main out with it. We had a real cold spell an I hadn't run the jeep in a few weeks. Went to start her and the electronics went berserk. The wipers came on by themselves, the dash went nuts, every light was flashing, shifter locked - but no start. Had to disconnect the aux just to be able to start it with a boost box. (thanks to your vid!) I'm not convinced that the LiOn battery is the way to go though. Too many stories of them causing fires. Keep your fire extinguisher handy and don't park the stepchild in the garage! I'm going with an AGM - like an Optima. Curious to see how it works out for you. Hope to seen an update sometime.

    Ran into the dead aux battery while on a trip in our RV flat towing our Gladiator. Of course the Aux battery is only available at dealers, so we had to plan our route through Flagstaff to visit the dealer. Delete is next! Thanks guys for this video! By the way, Lithium Iron Phosphate, LiPo4, is not like Lithium Ion, A.K.A. Lithium Cobalt used in electric cars. Much more forgiving and no danger of run away heat. LiPo4 are the thing in off shore power in the RV world today. While the up front cost is high, they actually cost much less over their life.

    • @PiDsPagePrototypes
      @PiDsPagePrototypes 2 роки тому

      Easier to say "Lithium Ferrous Phosphate" for those, so people don't hear "Iron" and think "Ion"
      And while they're great, and substantially safer, the replacement for them is already coming, Sodium based batteries, which should drop the cost significantly, as Sodium is a lot easier to source and more plentiful.

    I have to disagree with your assertion about jump starting. I just bought a 2018 JL and one day it wouldn't start. I tried charging the battery ( which was a few months old) but it wouldn't hold a charge. Id only had it 3 weeks, so i called the dealer requesting a replacement battery, or to get them to locate a drain. They told me that it was the aux battery, which i didnt even know i had and to jump start it return it to them. I jumped it no problem just using the main battery terminals. The dealer told me that the main battery had been replaced but that the aux was the original, so they put a new one on. I have now disconnected it. Great vid and great channel. ( Maybe the UK version wiring is different?)

      I've had one for 2 years now here in Canada Where it gets -20c regularly in the winter. NEVER has it failed , never has it been weak. IT STARTS IN THE COLD BETTER THAN ANY OTHER BATTERY , AND IT WARMS ITS SELF as current flows thru it and allows the alternator to trickle charge even below 0 till it is warm enough to allow full charging. The heater fan and defrost run at 50% faster speeds than a lead acid battery as they get 13.4 V all the time even as it discharges, even at 20% charge it still has over 13 volts.

    I will be keen on the short and long term on this. LI batteries are not meant for extreme temperature conditions. Failure and Fire are both risks under extreme heat and cold circumstances. I can't use this in Montana as the BMS would likely not allow a charge half the year. Heat under the hood brings other risks. Hope you found one that tolerates extremes and if you did, I'll be looking to get one. Have yet to find one that wouldn't bring risk under the hood.

      @@rjmcmanamy4337 Yeah I heard one of the reasons why lead acid or gel is better than LiFePh as auto batteries is the temperature limitations. In that you HAVE to make sure the battery is above freezing or else it can't charge. Perhaps they could work in the Ferrari which isn't likely to be outside in the cold too much anyway, and the placement will help it survive the engine heat a bit better.
      Maybe Kev will have to get Chris to move the batteries into the cab and rewire it to accommodate that very idea. As the Stepchild is probably gonna be parked out in the cold, and working in the heat, quite often.

    I have always liked lithium batteries and have even had highly Insulated ones. I recommend them for motorcycles because most people don't ride in the freezing cold. But depending on how well they are insulated they drop power big time between 30 and 50 degrees. If temperatures get in the single digits I don't know of any lithium battery that would still start a car unless it had some kind of heating element with it like a tesla. It will be interesting to see how this battery performs this winter.

    A JL owner would be crazy not to delete the s/s secondary battery with this big of a risk. I've been a Lithium Ion fanboy for some time. Kevin, l suggest that you look at the spec sheet because of where you line (and play). The one idiosyncrasy of Lithium batteries is that they do not like to be charged in the cold. The BMS on the AG's has a temp sensor, but I can't tell if it has a cold temp cutoff sensor or not. You really need to check that out. What would be fine is for you to start it when charged and the engine warming up will quickly take it abovve 32F, but if it's dead, you may need to devise a plan on how to safely jump start it without hurting the battery. That "never die" feature is pretty cool. I've never seen it before and that may be your way out of the "don''t charge under 32F catch-22" since that feature is inherent in the battery.
    Anyway, wish I had a JL just so I could delete the second battery ::) .

      Lithium Ion batteries like to be warmed up before putting a load on them, turning on the lights, heated seats ect, just get current flowing and they internally warm up.

    FYI, I have a JL (2023 High Tide) 3.6 manufactured 1-23 by the vin sticker. There is no longer a aux battery below the fuse box. first clue was the neg batt. cable has changed to a single large wire. (If your 22 has the single wire neg connection it's probably the same). there is still they tray but no longer a battery. Not sure if they changed the system due to issues or not, just thought i would save you some time. I didn't see a TSB addressing this.

    Check out your alternator ,it should be putting out 13.5-14.5 volts @ idle. If it’s lower than that it could kill your new battery like it did the rest. Antigravity batteries work great. Great video!

    • @zd533
      @zd533 2 роки тому +3

      This is not quite true with modern "smart" alternators like the JL and JT have. Output voltage can go as low as 12.3v or so, depending on the engine loading, battery charge, etc.
      I had the same battery issue within a couple of months of getting my 21 JT. The small aux battery fails typically and subsequently kills the main battery. This is not related to the alternator (unless of course the alternator is actually bad)

    • @mrmgjohnson

      No... at idle you're Jeep should be sitting at 12.7 or so on a fully charged battery, as you drive, you will see the 13.5-14.5 v you are talking about.

    Hey Kevin, I'm not sure about the antigravity battery, but alternators get burned up because there is something about the LiFePh batteries, where they can not reach a full charge from an alternator. So your alternator is overheating and burning out. There is a fix though, if you add a lead acid battery to your Jeep, the alternator will stop trying to charge.. You might ask around. Just sayin'.

    Instead of removing the auxiliary battery or maybe still better to remove and use the Z Automotive Taser mini to permanently turn off the annoying as heck auto/start/stop instead of the nut. Wondering if that would prevent the parasitic drain?
    These are Lifo and be discharged down 10% to 20% without degradation versus a Lead acid which once it is discharged below 50% it significantly degrades the life of the battery. Some lifo batteries now come with there own internal warmer and perform in colder temp. Wonder if this might be in the works for this brand.
    And the cost to add a good 45watt solar panel on your roof with solar charge controller for the Lifo antigravity battery to trickle charge it and dividends will be unlimited.
    For that matter I would recommend at the east adding the a small solar panel and solar charger for a lead acid battery to trickle charge. And again, will pay unlimited dividends.
    Great tip. Thanks guys.
