    I had the issue and brought to dealer. They wanted $1100 CAD to replace. Said it was not warranty. Told them to just disconnect the 2nd battery and they said it does much more than start/stop. Funny they could not tell me what else it ran. Just “other things”. I told them to just get my keys ready and picked it up. Did the steps as you outlined perfectly. Thank you.

    Hi,
    I have a 2018 Jeep JL Sport which began giving me problems with the autostart not working properly. Then I saw lights on the dash reporting issues. The next day (yesterday) it wouldn't start. I watched your video on bypassing the aux battery, so, I went out and bought one like yours. I'm installing it now, but I had to take a break due to rain. I just want to tell you that I appreciate so much that you explained how to remove the battery and cables as well as bypassing the aux. I'm not a mechanic, I'm 66 years old and this is the first time doing something like this. I was nervous as all heck. So, again I am grateful for the guidance.

    My 2021 Wrangler stranded me in the woods last week. Had to get a buddy to come jump me off. Went straight to the dealership as I was 1600 miles left till warranty expired at 36,000. Sure enough...the aux battery had died and killed the big battery right behind it. They put in new batteries under warranty. Even though the Aux battery is now brand new........I went ahead and followed your video, pulled the F42, took off the negative Aux cable and wrapped it up. Strapped it to the other cable tight. Now on big battery only. Ive got the 2.0 Turbo but I turn off the start/stop via the switch each time anyway. Drove around to make sure I got no warning lights and all good at the dashboard. Big battery charging at 14.2. Tks mate...

    I just did the bypass on my ‘22. Very simple. I did have to hold the power and enter buttons for ten seconds to get the radio to reset after disconnecting the power. Removing both grounds initially is necessary to separate the aux ground on ‘21 and up models. If you decide to completely remove your aux consider posting a video of that as well. Thanks very much.

    Thank you for very detailed informative video. I took a chance and replaced my old aux battery and it died within 2 weeks. Kind pf scary that it wouldn't take a jump start and dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with warning lights, warning beeps, etc. Thankfully I was in my garage. Not exactly sure what happened (wasn't fully charged from auto store or perhaps alternator fuse blew and aux battery wouldn't charge), but I decided to go ahead and bypass the aux battery altogether using this method. After bypassing, the main battery jump started right up and is now running fine. I did get a check engine light initially but by the 3rd start it went away. Keep these great videos coming!

    I have a 2021 Wrangler EcoDiesel. Lucky for me that my Aux battery is directly under my main battery. Unlucky for all of us is that we have an Aux battery. I replaced both batteries on the 3 year anniversary of my Jeep being made before I had any issues. I live in the desert of Arizona and batteries die in about 3 years. I didn't want it to die on a ride in the desert. I push the button after starting my Jeep. I don't want the engine turning off when I am at a traffic light or when I apply the brake while off roading. I carry a Type S Jump Starter Power Bank with me all the time. I figure I can disconnect the Aux battery when I have a problem and jump the main battery to get going if I have to. @@FROSTBITEOFFROAD No joy on the main battery recovering. Truck wouldn’t start even with jump pack or cables. Pulled the stock battery and had auto parts store try and charge it they said it was toast. I spent the money today on an Interstate AGM battery and with the aux battery disconnected everything works the same. I can tell you though that the auto start stop does still activate if you don’t hit the switch. I was too busy paying attention to gauges when starting and forgot to hit the button and at a stop light it shut off and started back up when I hit the button to kill it. Thank you for the advice. There is no longer a aux battery below the fuse box. first clue was the neg batt. cable has changed to a single large wire. Both times the battery was showing it was defective on their load tester, so it's not like it was only needing a charge. It's worth noting that my ESS has been "unavailable" for a few months now with the amber Avengers dash light on. Sam's gave me a full refund on the H6, so I picked up a EverStart (China) Platinum AGM H7 from Walmart since nearly every town in the USA seems to have one. I performed the Aux bypass as shown in the video. The Off-Road app still functions correctly, and my ESS is working again. Of course, you'd want to eventually remove the AUX & attach its red+ lead up top (onto main battery post) as other YT videos have illustrated. It appears that this is more of a bypass solution. I'm just wondering if there's anything special I need to do to get rid of the auxiliary battery dead weight. Also, when I did this with my 20/20 Wrangler JLU, my main battery was still fine, so I removed the negative cable from the aux battery and fuse number 42. The auto start stop light was still on. I then disconnected the main battery and let it sit for 15 minutes then reconnected it. This took care of the auto start stop light problem, but my backup camera and my climate control was not working. Apparently sometimes you have to wait up to 24 hours for the entire system to reset. So when people do the bypass disconnect (pull fuse and tape off negative wire), then do they just leave the aux battery where it is? I suppose there is no harm in leaving it in the vehicle for years to come.

    • @FROSTBITEOFFROAD
      @FROSTBITEOFFROAD  10 місяців тому

      Yeah I left mine in, it shouldn’t be an issue. If you do decide to remove it completely you will have to run the Aux positive lead up to the main battery and tape off the negative lead. Thanks for watching the video!

    I have a 2020 rubicon. Will removing the negative keep that aux battery from completely draining the main if it dies? Or will that positive still cause it to slowly drain?

    • @FROSTBITEOFFROAD
      @FROSTBITEOFFROAD  Рік тому

      No, you only have to remove the negative for the axillary battery and pull the fuse shown in the video. It’s a pretty easy mod and can save you a headache down the road. Thanks for watching the video!

      It was nice and a pleasure to watch. I was between this and the other version of moving the aux positive up to the main and taping the negative. Wasnt sure the difference/which would be better. opinion?
      I dont have a tazer. I just press the dumb button. My overall worry is the aux draining my main. I dont drive the ‘necessary’ freeway speed/allotted tjme for it to ‘charge’

      @@Busterblader13 yeah that’s another way to accomplish the same thing, that way is more work and harder to reverse if you need to go in for warranty work at the dealership. I just preferred this method and I’m in the same boat having to hit the button every startup but it’s pretty much second nature now.

    I replaced the large battery, removed fuse 42, and removed and taped off the thin negative cable about a week or so ago. I drove it this morning and the ESS turned the jeep off and on at a traffic light. I was under the impression that this would make the ESS feature stop working. Am I wrong? Also, volts were at 12.9 while idle. 14 whild driving. I have it on a trickle charger/maintainer now.

    • @FROSTBITEOFFROAD
      @FROSTBITEOFFROAD  Рік тому

      You still have to push the button on the dash to turn off ESS every time you drive or get a Tazer to leave it off like I mentioned. The voltage will fluctuate, the alternator is charging the battery while driving and at idle it will be around 12v so no need to trickle charge it. Mine has been working no problem for over a month now, let me know if you have any more questions.

    • @mrmgjohnson
      @mrmgjohnson Рік тому +2

      12.7 v is perfect at idle... your battery is good and charged. You can buy an ASS eliminator for less than $100.. some are even $50. This plugs into the same place as a Tazer... but ONLY effects the start/stop feature. It gives you control of the system, it has a memory , so if you turn it off, it stays off without any more button pushing until you want to turn it back on.

    Hi Bryan,
    Thank you very much for your video.
    I’m having trouble with starting my Wrangler JL (my guess is the small battery killing everything)
    Do you confirm that removing the fuse and taping the cable will sort the thing out? I will be able to still start the vehicle?
    Thank you.
    Best,

      Yeah, if the small battery is the culprit then you should be able to do this mod and jump your main battery and be good to go. If the main battery got too low on voltage you might want to replace it, hope this helps thanks for watching!

    You don't have to rip off the fender. You can pull out the fender liner (the back half of your passenger liner) bend the fender liner to gain access to the battery. I've done it and its not to bad. You might need to remove your tire.

    Please get back to me on this question: I have a new h6 battery and my auxiliary battery is dead, is it a good idea just to disable the auxiliary battery once it’s already dead by taking out the fuse, when I have a new H6 battery installed or just simple get a new auxiliary battery and then disable the auxiliary battery? I still have a warranty on the 2019 Jeep wrangler.

    I followed the instructions and also installed a new main battery (dead aux battery drained the main). Worked perfectly for a day but the “ESS not available” light came on again today. • @ND-ky1uo

      With the negative cable to the auxiliary battery disconnected, it takes that battery out of the loop so it shouldn’t be draining your new main battery. I have seen where new batteries have bad cells, so having it checked is probably not a bad idea. The auto parts store will test it for free. Hope this helps, thanks for watching the video!

      I heard that on the newer 21 models that the negative cable runs to the firewall ground instead of the negative post on the auxiliary battery like the older ones did in your video. So with that said, if I remove the smaller cable on my starter battery is the auxiliary battery still somehow connected to the firewall? Or do I need to remove the negative cable directly from the auxiliary battery?
