I was born in 1964 so i remember when all this stuff was happening.. Concerts and great bands on EVERY radio channel and TV, Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, The Midnight Special you name it. At the time this was NEW rock NOT classic rock. in 1978 there was a concert series called "Summer Jam".. For $15 bucks I saw (on same bill). Styx, Eddie Money, StarCastle, Ted Nugent, Foreigner and Foghat... That same year (fall of 1978) I saw this "new band" for $6.50 named Van Halen... that time period will NEVER be repeated.....

I saw Wet Wille many times growing up in Spartanburg, SC. They always blew the roof off of every venue I saw them in. Jimmy Hall was always a blast and Rick was killing the guitar as well. Great band!!! Very entertaining. Great to see these wonderful memories on UA-cam!!

Have you seen the Healers vids? Jimmy is still rockin' the house. Now (or a year or so ago) he was performing with Samantha Fish, Reece Wynans and Kate Moss--The Healers. He is still killa!

First saw Wet Willie in Macon, GA about 1970, followed them around to several concerts.
Most memorable was packed into Memorial Hall at the UGA quadrangle 1971.
Hot as shit, everyone sweating like bulls. Dude in the crowd brought his mouth harp and dueled with Jimmy Hall.
Pot smoke so thick could cut with a knife. Women tearing their shirts off. Went on way past the hour.
Memories of times past, not just mine but what campuses and Athens Downtown used to be like.

Lewis Ross. Knew him well. He was a great drummer and showman. We debated over Jefferson Airplane vs. Led Zeppelin of all crazy things! Around 1970, before they moved to Macon and found some commercial success. Jimmy is still vibrant and has his whole voice. Amazing at 72ish.

Wet Willie takes me way back to the 70s. They had some serious funk go in on.
Eat in that red hot chicken. My personal favorite was Rather be blind then to see you go.
Wish I could put them in a time capsule and fast forward them to today.
Saw them many times Scheafer music festival in central park.
Joint in the woods NJ. Soul, blues, rock, funk they did it all.

Legend has it My late uncle’s band got to open for wet willie on a tour in the early seventies. Apparently the crowd was really into the warm up band so they decided to play an encore the road mgr for wet willie told them if the went back out he would fire them. Being a bunch of kids who didn’t give a shit they went back out the crowd loved them then they got their asses fired off of the tour lol. Rip uncle Ray self. Members of that band went on to form bands Ziggurat as well as Deacon Little and ultimately Fortnox. Shout out Carroll Co. GA.

Damn, wotta killer clip! When Jimmy came to our burg on a solo tour in the late 70s, I was fortunate enough to meet him. I shook his hand and personally thanked him for the very existence of "Keep On Smiling" - told him that it was one of my very favorite songs since I first heard it on the radio as a kid, and a musical well that I often went back to whenever I was feeling down, and that it always elevated me, so it had a particular significance in my life, blah blah (yeah, I sorta fanclubbed him a little, but he was cool). Just an awesome guy, and one of the most incredible voices ever recorded, imo...

don barlow I helped a sound crew do a show with Wet Willie at 6 Flags back then. We were smoking joints backstage, and the local security called the GBI on us. I'm wondering, "Y'all ain't no GBI. Y'all are rent a cops." But they were the real deal. They kicked us out and banned Wet Willie from 6 Flags from then on! We'd just gotten back from Nashville doing a show with Colonel Bruce Hampton in that Park next to The Parthenon. That was indeed a trip. Colonel Bruce stopped at a yard sale and bought a bunch of junk and gave it away to the fans like door prices. He gave one fan a black iron skillet with some grease in it. They were Hampton's Grease Band then. But we called them, "The Geese Band." He, Wet Willie and Larry Raspberry and the High Steppers all did that show.
