What girl didnt wanna be Stevie Nicks after Rumours dropped??? The face, hair, top hat, capes, boots, scarves!!! I rode my bike to JC Penney record department to buy the album, I saved babysitting money for weeks to get it. I sat and played the album all afternoon while sitting and staring at the record sleeve pictures (who needs cell phones when you have album sleeves) wondering where they were, who loved who, what fun they were having. Im now 57 and still remember every detail of playing the album for the first time.
This is a great version! It brings me back to the day in 1977 when at 16 I went to my first concert and it just so happened to be FM. I didn't know who they were. They came out on stage with Stevie in her top hat and lace, and she began to sing. My jaw dropped, my eyes got big and the moment changed me forever. Stevie has been in my heart ever since. It was out of this world and I am SO lucky to have been there! This song is particularly special since I have lived in Silver Spring. I remember when I first learned of the song - I spent years trying to find the single because it was the only way to hear the song. I never did, but now the internet brings this and so much more that we never had access to right to our fingertips. What a gift!!
I'm 10 months late replying to this, but very similar thing happened for me. FM was touring for Rumours when it first came out. Drove from Phoenix to Tucson to see them headline a 4 act concert at the UofA football stadium. (Kenny Logins, Marshall Tucker, and a local band also played). Had not really heard much about FM but GYOW was starting to get airplay. Heard them play Silver Spring (not Springs, btw everyone that misspells it) and loved it and her. It was only found on the B side of the GYOW single for years and years. Thankfully we have the 'net. Here's a link to an article about that concert. www.google.com/amp/s/tucson.com/entertainment/music/back-in-the-day-with-fleetwood-mac/article_1f69506d-af06-52e3-801e-876e301fb5c7.amp.html
B side of "Go Your Own Day" her cry/singing is Spectacular!!. My Live in Boyfriend of 12 years left me suddenly, completelty uprooted my Life. I always play this song and cry for a Bit.
To be fair if I was Lindsey Buckingham, I wouldn’t want this song on the album either but I’m not Lindsey Buckingham so I agree why wasn’t this song on Rumors.
im only 17 and nobody is better than Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks... that will never change. i hope i can see them someday. my grandfather that passed away in 1993 loved them
I just read the brand new book about Stevie Nick's life and career. There is a wonderful chapter about crushed Stevie was that this song was not included on the Rumours album. And she fought her bandmates very hard, as she was passionate about this song's inclusion on the album. It timed in too long to be on the record album. And she was pissed off about it. Mick Fleetwood had to take her into the parking lot, to break the news to her. The band voted to not let the song on the album; or, have Nicks drop one of her other songs she had written for Rumours. Stevie was totally in tears and anger when she discovered the news. Now its part of this beautiful song's legacy.
They gave her an ultimatum. Take a hike or sing a different song. Kudos to Stevie for not taking the hike. I don't do ultimatums. I would have told all of them to go fuck themselves. Fleetwood Mac would have been just a blip in history if she had taken the hike.
don riley That's rock n roll, and that's life for you... Stevie had the greatest song of Fleetwood Mac's catalog, oh sure they had a lot of great songs, but to have that one cut from their monster selling album, wow, well I'm glad it made a B-Side single. Same with "The Sundays" B-Side singles from "Static & Silence" or "Amy Winehouse" B-Sides singles and demos, gems to later discover. Look at James Taylor's biggest selling song isn't "Fire And Rain", or any of his other tons of songs, it's Carole King's "You've Got A Friend". Or Bruce Springsteen's biggest selling song is Manfred Mann Earthband's version of his "Blinded By The Light"... Or the piggish 'Eagles' had "Take It To The Limit", as their biggest selling song, sung by Randy Meisner, only for him to be discarded like trash by Glenn and Don. And they put half a dozen other songs on their greatest hits ahead of Randy Meisner's "Try And Love Again" which is absent, and we know all about their song "Hotel California", and how they they treated songwriter band member. Jackson Browne knew better, "Take It Easy", he got away from those guys quick. The wronged artists and twists in recording industry are just a microcosm of life's 'slights' and 'cruelties', but we persevere.... I worked in the music industry, in the 80's, it was getting more and more cruel back then, now it's 'straight up' demonic! ...
This is for the man I fell in love with 21 years ago, but he didn't believe I loved him, so he went and married someone else. My heart has been broken ever since and I will never love anyone like I loved him.
Love this, but it's missing a lyric that's in the studio version and is one of my favorite lyrics ever--the lyric which should be her epitaph--"You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you."
That lyric holds so much power in the final cut of the song, i used silver springs to cope with a breakup and that set of words solidified where i stood after it.
How can anyone not feel this song and melt/ cry with Stevie singing? I agree with Earl Rogerson when he commented that No one will ever be able to sing the way Stevie does! Go figure!
Sometimes I am brought to tears listening to Stevie sing this song, as I am right now. To have a woman moved so deeply by her love for someone and to express it in such memorable music and vocalization is truly remarkable.
Lived in Silver Spring, the city that is the genesis of tis song. I read she was riding on the Washington DC beltway and saw Silver Spring(s) exit and she jotted it down. Always felt such a connection to this song, long before I knew this.
This hits so different with noise cancelling headphones on blast...goosebumps all over...especially when reflecting on failed relationships...sheesh, I'm all up in my feelings now.
Beautiful, beautiful version! Thanks for sharing this. So different than the live "The Dance" version of 1997. I think the harmonies on the 1997 version enhance this song. So interesting that she has the lline on here after "Time cast a spell on you but you won't forget me" of "go ahead and try" which is not on the 1997 version. More angry. The 1997 version adds "give me just a chance" which makes her more vulnerable and highlights the continued longing that exists after a breakup. Especially hers and Lindsey's. That longing lasted 40 years.
Fun fact ! She once said at a concert the reason the song is called silver springs is because she was passing threw Maryland and saw a silver spring sign and liked the sound of it. And this is the only reason I love being from Maryland lol
Even better, she has said in interviews that she thought the place ‘Silver Spring’ sounded like a nice place & a place she imagined her and Lindsey could have settled down in & had a family, had they not joined FM. So the lyrics ‘you could be my Silver Silver springs’ is basically her saying this is what could have been!
This song was cut from the Rumours LP and relegated to a B-side for one reason: Everyone involved feared that the song would overshadow every other song on the album, which would make it the centerpiece of the tour for the album. Which in turn would have put Stevie Nicks in the forefront of Fleetwood Mac. They could not and would not have that. It's the BEST song from the Rumours sessions. Had Stevie left the band and released it as a single the song would have toppled every other song in the top-10 and shot all the way to #1. As for a backup band she could have recorded it with 'The Section' who were just as capable of creating a sound as compelling as Fleetwood Mac musically speaking.
Thanks for this beautiful version of "Silver Springs", I had never heard this before. Stevie's voice is so beautiful and clear on this, the phrasing and so many little nuances you can hear in her voice when it is this clear and less raspy. It makes me so sad to think she killed that with the excessive cocaine abuse. I partly blame Mick and John for that. I heard they were the ones that were so heavy into it, and bringing piles of it into the studio while they were recording. Stevie was still a young artist and didn't know what she was getting into. This reminds me of how she sounded on the Buckingham Nicks album. God bless Stevie for hanging in there all these years and providing us with great music, she has been a real trouper, but whenever I go back and listen to her music from the 70's I still miss her old voice. The clearer sound she had before she got so heavy into years of cocaine abuse and it became more raspy. I think it had a more ethereal, airy, but bell like clarity that was perfect for her type of songs.
I'm not saying she didn't have a drug problem everyone knows that but it wasn't cocaine that changed her voice. The Buckingham Nicks album was recorded in her early to mid 20's women's voices grow naturally deeper as they age. Stevie also stated smoking around the end of recording the Wild heart and didn't stop until the late 90's the smoking and age are the things that aged her voice and made it lower and more raspy. I also believe as she grew in confidence she sang more from a place of strength as opposed to being under Lindsey's thumb. Just my opinion.
@@scarletttrinity4008 She was also not a trained vocalist. She sings from her throat rather than from her diaphragm. I just finished reading Mick's autobiography and he mentioned that they once tried to get her to work with a vocal coach because her voice would be wiped out after sessions or concerts.
@@eauhomme Well I never said she was vocally trained, I simply explained that as a woman matures her voice changes. Even people who have taken care of their instruments. In addition to that Stevie's smoking (Kool menthol no less!) drug problems can change your voice. Even now she trains with Steve Real and she still has that wild and raw sound. Stevie is simply amazing. Its funny as I know she wasn't serious about taking care of her voice untill 1998 some of the old tours name Robin Anderson as Stevie's vocal coach. Lol I guess that's one way to have your BFF with you at all times.
@@scarletttrinity4008 Yes. I was agreeing with you, plus adding the information on her lack of training and singing style. I think she is amazing as well. Robin Anderson's death probably affected her more than any other event in her life from what I understand (including her marriage to Robin's widower, which she describes as a catastrophic mistake coming from mutual grief). Her voice shows raw emotion more than most out there, including this particular recording.
I'm 55 yes old my cousin gave me the rumors album when it came out I played it over and over again I had to take a break from it now I'm back to playing it feels like the first time playing it❤❤❤❤
First The Fleetwood Mac Band deserves credit for hooking Stevie Nick's Up. They are a kickass band. Yes , of course they know how fortunate they are to have Stevie Nick's in their Company. Damn, I would melt for her super easy. Yes, SteviecNicks is a Legend, a QUEEN and everything of goodness.
How long until the pop tarts "discover" this song? I'm not sure that I want to live to hear it. John's bass work alone will sail right over their heads. When I think how Lindsey must have felt, putting his best skills into a song that was designed to leave his head ringing and his heart in guilty tatters, I cannot think of a current performer who could deliver this work.
stop being such an ageist twat. this song was DROPPED from rumors and yet became a HIT twenty years later with its inclusion on The Dance. The kids got it
Wow. Well said. Really. i think it's left a LOT of ears ringing to. Always wanted to cover it, from the perspective of a guy, Talking to a guy friend about the same type of thing, like this : "DON"T tell me she was pretty, Buddy I don't wanna know. You KNOW she could have loved YOU but you would NOT LET HER. You won't forget her, man. She'll FOLLOW YOU DOWN TILL THE SOUND OF HER VOICE WILL H-A-U-N-T Your ass. AAAAHHHHA----AHHHHHHA-AHHHH" Pretty intense, this version, especially at toward the end where she decides to give a little PREVIEW! ha. OMG. That poor bastard.
First time I heard this song was when I bought the single "Go your own way" (I think) as a 45 record and it was the B-side.... Fell in love with it the first time I heard it... One of Stevie's best songs ever!!!!!!!
Silver springs will always be my favorite sing of fleetwood mac .stevie is a great song writer and singer i been a fan since Rumours. I finally saw them .when Tango in the night came out. Stevie will always be my favorite FM Member with christine behind her.if only they put silver springs on the album back in the 1970's .the deluxe edition of it has it on it .
I love Stevie Nicks, my daughter now loves Stevie and the cat likes Stevie! This is just amazing. Every time I drive just lately I put Silver Springs on. Beautiful song. Thinking I might tell my family to play it as my going out tune!! x
Throw out Go your own Way or Dreams for this song! If I never hear either of those songs again it won’t bother me. Silver Springs absolutely should’ve been on Rumors!!
The album has 11 tracks. 4 penned by Buckingham (Go Your Own Way, I Don't Want to Know, Second Hand News and Never Going Back Again); 4 penned by McVie (Oh Daddy, Songbird, Don't Stop, and You Make Loving Fun), 1 credited to the band (The Chain) and ONLY TWO by Nicks (Dreams and Gold Dust Woman). Why the hell would they choose "Oh Daddy" (which SCREAMS "B-Side!") or "I Don't Want to Know" (good song, but borderline B-sider) over THIS masterpiece? PLUS - It's the perfect companion for "Go Your Own Way" from her ex. In a perfect world, Rumours would've rolled out of fairness to Christine Perfect, the oldest & longest member: 1) The Chain, 2) Never Going Back Again, 3) Dreams, 4) Don't Stop, 5) Go Your Own Way, 6) Silver Springs, 7) You Make Loving Fun, 8) Second Hand News, 9) Oh Daddy, 10) Gold Dust Woman, 11) Songbird
I agree, I would put I don't wanna know or maybe even Dreams on the b-side, I know it sounds criminal but I think Silver Springs is the superior song. Maybe a double a-side non album single of Silver Springs and Planets of the Universe perhaps?
"I Don't Want to Know" was written by Stevie, not Christine Chris,Lindsey and Stevie singing in harmony to Stevie's lead vocal...though I would have preferred her lead vocal be much.more front and center than it was.
She wrote 6 songs for Rumors: 1) Dreams - made it to the album, was number one hit 2) Gold Dust Woman - one of her best songs ever written, easily in top 3 from the album 3) I Don't Want To Know - it's her and Lindsey's vocals with harmony from Christine. I love the song just think that her other songs for the album are better. For me no one from her songs here are B-side. 4) Silver Springs - My favorite song from Rumors. Instead, you know, never made it to the final album. Without this song my favorite have to be The Chain, but also the album sounds incomplete without Silver Springs to me. The best song ever that never made it to the album and was B-Side/Bonus track. 5) Planets of The Universe - This to me sounds like Stevie's "Songbird". Another all time favorite song. It's incredible song, screams album track. It would be good idea to have similar ballads from the two female singers in the album: "Planets of The Universe" from Stevie and "Songbird" from Christine. The song made it to one of Stevie's solo albums, but it was different version. This, the "Rumors" demo version is the best. 6) The Chain (Demo) - Some parts of this made it into the final cut of The Chain that we all know. The final version is one of the best songs ever written and probably because every member wrote something. But this demo version is different take of the song and shows the talent that Stevie have. Probably the only song that can go B-Side just because the final version is the best.
Great work Jeremy. I bet with all the stuff they'd written up to that point they could have even done a double record with enough space to include this wonderful piece instead of putting it on a single LP afterwards.
I like this version. Maybe not the best, as it's missing the final lyrics which are very powerful, but its still good. How do you get this version? Was it ever released?

The woman that fits this song died last year. We knew we loved each other dearly but couldn’t figure out how to make it work. It now seems that the correct answer was to marry doppelgängers. Fast forward, I’m still with the doppelgänger woman I love and her husband is alone since she died.

No One Will Ever Be Able to Sing the Way Stevie Does !
stop being such an ageist twat. this song was DROPPED from rumors and yet became a HIT twenty years later with its inclusion on The Dance.
She'll FOLLOW YOU DOWN TILL THE SOUND OF HER VOICE WILL
H-A-U-N-T Your ass. AAAAHHHHA----AHHHHHHA-AHHHH" Pretty intense, this version, especially at toward the end where she decides to give a little PREVIEW! ha. OMG. That poor bastard.
Steve Layland, you ARE a pop tart old fart. Young people can appreciate this, old timer. You are no better than anyone else.
I’m 19 and in love with this song am I a pop tart?
This is a mega upgrade for my other video of this.
=] good stuff .. reminded me of the old days of youtube lolll with the separate vids with diff qualities nd stuff haha .. " HQ VERSION!!!"
God damn. Thank you for sharing this. Brings tears to my eyes, ahhhh Stevie.
Great Job Jeremy, Stevie's Magnificent Voice is So Clear and Evocative.
WOW WHAT a FIND!!!!!!!! THANKS for sharing this...... never knew about it. It sounds like a live board mix....?!?!
First time I heard this song was when I bought the single "Go your own way" (I think) as a 45 record and it was the B-side.... Fell in love with it the first time I heard it... One of Stevie's best songs ever!!!!!!!
What a beautifull song sang by the Queen of music
such a great song, and the lyrics are magical
Silver springs will always be my favorite sing of fleetwood mac .stevie is a great song writer and singer i been a fan since Rumours. I finally saw them .when Tango in the night came out. Stevie will always be my favorite FM Member with christine behind her.if only they put silver springs on the album back in the 1970's .the deluxe edition of it has it on it .
Great sounding version! Well done!
Thank you for sharing. Just cannot get enough of this gem!!
She is the very best in history and forever!
Great guitar work Lindsey !!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of my very favorite 70"s song. Thanks to you Jeremy for the great sounding enhanced recording.
I love this but would have loved to hear Linda Ronstadt do it, too. Double perfection.
beautiful
In a perfect world, Rumours would've rolled out of fairness to Christine Perfect, the oldest & longest member:
1) The Chain, 2) Never Going Back Again, 3) Dreams, 4) Don't Stop, 5) Go Your Own Way, 6) Silver Springs, 7) You Make Loving Fun, 8) Second Hand News, 9) Oh Daddy, 10) Gold Dust Woman, 11) Songbird
She wrote 6 songs for Rumors:
1) Dreams - made it to the album, was number one hit
2) Gold Dust Woman - one of her best songs ever written, easily in top 3 from the album
3) I Don't Want To Know - it's her and Lindsey's vocals with harmony from Christine.
The chain was actually stevie’s song (lyrics melody and groove) but it was credited to the whole band
Because they were the artists involved and not you.
a song to remember always
Thank you so much for posting! Brings back so many wonderful memories. 😍❤⚘🎧
That’s the FWM sound I love❤
Bellissima, grazie!
Stevie your the best
Great job Jeremy!!
Great work Jeremy. I bet with all the stuff they'd written up to that point they could have even done a double record with enough space to include this wonderful piece instead of putting it on a single LP afterwards.
This is really good Jeremy. Thanks!
Amazing!
i missed the “you’ll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you”
This song takes me to 1977 and i wasn’t even born yet
Awesome song
much better sound quality! Thanks a lot! :)
Thanks, Jeremy, it was worth it.
Just the best
5/26/21. Happy birthday stevie
Nice job JB'
Great Job on this ! Love Stevie Nicks
Majestic...heartbreaking...my wife has the original Buckingham/Nicks vinyl of this & it's just one of her many "life theme" tunes.
Keith Jetton This is not on BN.

Todays my birthday 🎂
Crazy sounding without the backup vox...
I like this version. Maybe not the best, as it's missing the final lyrics which are very powerful, but its still good. How do you get this version? Was it ever released?
That's my girl
Her voice is so young here
This is interesting, although nowhere near as arresting and earth-shaking as the version that was released.
The bass @ 3:49
I think Gothic trunk loves this as much as I do
how did you get this version btw?
🎼✌️❤️🌹🎵🎶

The venom in this is just incredible. Most of stevies songs are ancient spells, this one is a curse.
Isn't it strange how perceptions differ? All I hear is love and regret.
Do you know “Fall from grace” from the Troubled in Shang Ra La album? She calls it her meanest song
@@Bartcmh yes, which I find odd because the lyrics are actually compellingly compassionate in many ways!
this isn't even the best version. this is the country version.
@@MsFeiji this is the version they took to the stage in the 1976 live performances. It is far from country. Do you know what country sounded like in 1976?
Lindsey knockout he loves you we age it's not a game any more.. you love ea other. Make a move. No they are not pretty don't worry
Excellent song, but dont know that I would call it a Ballad.
The song is about Stevie and I. We are twin flame lovers. And I never forgot her.
Lindsey's riffs seem so insignificant in this song
I was in love with the most beautiful girl I have ever known ..this was in my mind when we made love--the mind works by association...do the math..
Sounds like she is crying.
The live version from “The Dance” was more like this.
The woman that fits this song died last year. We knew we loved each other dearly but couldn’t figure out how to make it work. It now seems that the correct answer was to marry doppelgängers. Fast forward, I’m still with the doppelgänger woman I love and her husband is alone since she died.
