    Just left mini. I'm in the States. I was quoted almost $600 for a battery replacement and reset. That is indeed bonkers. I have a Jeep running a double battery setup and it was cheaper! Thanks for the tips. Cheers

      Hi Daniel, thats a crazy price. Mini in the UK were going to charge me an arm and a leg for a reset and a battery swap. Thats why I bought a diag unit. It wasn't as good as I thought but I reset the car, paid for the battery and still had change from what Mini were going to charge!! Thanks for your comments and of course for watching 👍🏽

    Thanks for the video. These batteries have 2 vent holes on the opposite sides. The proper way is to plug the one that is not used. Most times the new battery comes with one plug, either inside one vent hole or connect to the positive terminal cover. You can reuse the old plug on the OR battery as well.

      Hi motofan16. Thanks for the comments. Thats actually what I did, although I failed to mention it in the video. Great information on the plug in the positive terminal cover, I didn't know that. A new battery I recently replaced in my Sons car, a Fiesta, had blue tac in the vent holes for shipping. I swapped the plug/vent over from the old one! Thanks for watching 👍🏽

    Nice one Mike had the same problem with my Mini engine spun over but would not start battery was on the blink it just needed that little more power and away it went
    I’ve worked on many vehicles in my time 52 yrs and the new mini is the most awkward I’ve ever encountered stay safe 👍👨🏻‍🏭

      Hi Paul. The old Land Rover, one spanner, the Mini, spanners, diag gear, battery pack and a memory cable and a good chance of stuffing it up then a trip to the Dealer!!!. Worked out for me , this time though, thanks for watching 👍🏽

    so what's the consequence if the battery is replaced but no registration process is performed?? I don't have the scanner and hoping not to buy it.

      Hi Victor, I read that there is a battery management system (BMS) on the car which alters the charging characteristics depending on the age of the battery. So fitting a new battery and not "telling" the car could leave to overcharging of the new one. I would imaging this could be correct but in real life how this would effect the longevity of the battery I wouldn't like to say. Thanks for your comments and for watching 👍🏽

    Can I use bimmercode or bimmerlink to register the new battery ? do I really need to add an extra 12V supply to the ODB2 port ?! Just watched a workshop do it and they didn’t bother with the 12V power for the ODB2 line.

      @MikeMakesIt  Рік тому

      Hi. I’m not sure what bimmercode is some I’m afraid I cannot comment on this. The 12v power to the obd2 port was to keep the car memory settings, radio,sat nav etc so is not essential.

    Is it OK that when you pulled out the old battery you let the - terminal touch the + battery cable?

    • @MikeMakesIt
      @MikeMakesIt  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Jusssy, no thats fine as only one terminal of the battery touched and the other was floating so there was no electrical circuit created. Thanks for watching 👍🏽

      Hi Louie. Simply wanting to replace what used to be easy, such as the battery is a real pain although, fingers crossed, the car has been faultless and is around 5 years old. Thanks for your input and for watching 👍🏽

    What a joke, for crying out loud. All I'm doing is replacing a battery. What stupid nonsense!!!
