I served Jimmy at the restaurant I work at a few months ago. He ended up giving me a couple tickets to the SP show the next night. Turns out they were backstage passes and I said hey to him after the show and he remembered my name. Super nice guy
Amazing!!!
that's awesome 🥳
Wow
Very cool.
Awesome!
I got to meet Billy in 2009 and it was a bit surreal.
Very cool
Opened for Jimmy Chamberlain Complex about 15 years ago. Dude was the best. He watched our sound check, hung in our dressing room before the gig, and watched our entire set from the back of the crowd. Couldn’t have been nicer to us. Love Jimmy!!
Same. Super nice guy. Hung out before the show
NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!
pumpkins. I went to high school with Jimmy Chamberlin. Was extraordinarily blessed at the age of 15/16 to watch Jimmy play drums for the Mojo Blues Band in the basement (5 houses down from mine) of Kevin Martes. My now deceased brother Bill, was sound manger.
This occurred in 1980/81
Criminally underrated drummer.
Totally. I’ve never understood how other drummers get more recognition and aren’t nearly as dynamic, variable and just plain entertaining. Some SP albums are mind blowing with his technique.
Absolutely! His drumming on everything from Gish to Mellon Collie made me a huge fan.
It'll start to change. The pumpkins can't stay our best kept secret much longer...
Plus, look at the longevity and sales and his /their pretty near-consistent support in Rolling Stone Magazine, I don't know why I still pay attention but I do, and I noticed they gave write-ups to not only the GLOW single but for the near b-side one-off guitar center car commercials Zeitgeist b-side leftover song "for our love" which I think is officially just titled "FOL"
And then they even printed about the (now failed, let's just say ... abandoned, it's more polite) teargarden project ... he could SO EASILY have gotten to the damn 44 songs.... I get . So. Damn. Frustrated. With. Billy. Sometimes...
But fuck. That's just it. Innit? That passion. That I care. WHY DO I Care? 🤷
Or maybe this all just looks like Greek to you because this is just a drummer on a drum page for a drum company repping a drum magazine. Btw, do you Drum, dude?
I was just gonna point out, with the RS magazine 'influence' that unless WPC (and that's the same as BC for those who aren't idolizers of Billy Corgan as I am- j/k I believe in our one and only Lord and Savior Jesus Christ 🙏❤️) has made a brutal lifelong enemy of the judges or panel or however the fuck is voted on that I do believe the Smashing Pumpkins will soon be inducted into the Rock and roll hall of fame.
Which, aside from fans having to pay about 💯 bux more per ticket from then on out... will go ahead and give em a massive bump in profile and cultural consciousness/relevance. I. Theorize ...
OR
if you're AN ACTUAL drummer,
AND YOU KNOW
CAN'T GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT THE PUMPKIN KINGS HAMMER 🎃 🔨
MAYBE you're here because of whatever other project you know him from- what's his name? Jordan?
Catalano?
(because I know he's an actual series musician unlike most garage rock bands I listen to) Jimmy Even has all these amazing jazz albums, a couple of which I have heard in full, and a couple I even liked, one of which I even enjoyed enough to buy.
I swear I didn't even know Billy Corgan sang on one of the songs when I bought it... I'm like .. I swear.😢
And I would actually pay HARD EARNED $
To see him live, anytime.
Forever.
What's that? It's an album of him farting on a snare drum!?
WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT
like I'd buy a ticket to see him play SOLO
OR maybe the stick in his hand isn't a drum stick but.... AYO! COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
or IF Jimmy is doing a clinic
Or a drum off.
Like a competition or hosting something or even just an MC
But you know something small and intimate and local ... Like, oh I don't know, say like, a guitar sent you that maybe sort of happens to be downtown Brooklyn in the basement of a shopping mall or something like that.... yeah.... shruggs
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
even if Jimmy is to be on stage
Drumming with ANYONE else at all,
I'll be there.
but you know, it's not like I'm throwing those jazz records on my st-
Wait...
like....
Oh shit.
. I don't even have a stereo anymore. And I call myself a musician!? (Actually I never do what other people do call me a musician all the fucking time and I hate it I'm really more of an artist and a producer and hopefully maybe you'll think I'm a fucking bad comedian too!!)
That being said:
What is technology doing to us ?
May I ask!?
Am I allowed to say that?
Here?
Will I get banned?
I moved to a different... ok you don't need my life story. This is a rant enough
.
But I will say:
I remember in 2008 when Billy Corgan said "the whole world's gone iPhone crazy!"
. before "cray" was a thing, or I'm sure he would have said that, because he didn't actually say it, he wrote it down, but anyway I digress. . .
I was GONNA say
"Ya know I don't throw his jazz records on MY IPOD"
HAHAHA how fucking dated is that.
Omg I should do standup comedy
(I mean, I really SHOULDN'T. Which of course means) I probably will.
Anyways, absolutely love you Jimmy! You're the best
You're the Neil Peart of my generation...
Every now and then I'll hear people mumbling and murmuring about Travis Barker or, who's that... you know .. who I'm talking about... whatever his name is.... for tool ..
Ok, what's his name ... is it Danny?
Is it ADAM? WTF
Yeah whatever that guy.
He ain't got NOTHING on Jimmy.
And since they're both bald and all .. every year I have this fantasy... especially with James having played with Maynard etc... and the whol Pumpkins → Halloween thing
(He did partake to dress up like the Beatles on Halloween too right? He was there that night playing with them right when they dressed up as the Beatles... WHts that field?
Dodgers? That's Brooklyn... I mean LA... Rogers? Field?
Rodger Dodger field....?
THEY WERE OPENING FOR KISS
O.MFG I CANT FINISH MY THOUGHTs
I just want tool to be SP for Halloween one year
And my fantasy 😇 is the same year SP will dress up as TOOL that year and they'll each play covers shows... or like , I dunno do a whole co-headline thing. Imagine the gimmicky press and even angrier fans.
You mix those alt metal with the alt alt crowd and Whoooo you think you saw some smouldering trash cans burn at Woodstock 99?
Well let me tell you, if Smashing Pumpkins starts making fun of Tool God's going to set this world on fire
I mean, the fans will probably riot.
But IT WOULD BE PRETTY FUCKIN FUNNY 😅
Dude is not underrated at all. Drummers are all well aware he's amazing, he prefers to remain less under the radar a bit, consistent with his jazz background.
Absolutely he is. He is truly one of the greatest rock drummers and one that uses his dynamics so well that create his own unique characteristics from behind the kit for the world of rock
He looks SO well, SO healthy. Good to see.
Jimmy Chamberlain and Danny Carey doing a session together and having a convo would be epic.
Jimmy Chamberlain is one of the best drummers of the era. Without his sonic sensibilities, the Smashing Pumpkins never achieve their highest musical potential. He seems like a real good dude, too....which is always a nice thing to find out about your rock idols. Glad he is living healthy and happy. We need him around to create the back beat for another 34 years...at least. Youre the man Jimmy! Cheers!
That paint job on this tour kit is phenomenal. Really respect him as a drummer and as a person. He was addicted to opiates/heroin and really through lots of hard work turned his life around. I found my own brother dead from OD 2/13/21, unfortunately not everyone makes it out alive. I salute anyone who survives that personal war.
My cousin also ... he was 38.
@@freedomwatchdog2495 my sincere condolences for your loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with you brother!
I went to college in Chicago in 1994 and I remember going into a
guitar center on Clark and Belmont and going downstairs to look at some kits . I was checking out some cymbals and accidentally bumped into a guy … I turned to apologize and there was Jimmy , geeking out in gear just like all drummers . He knew I knew who he was by my expression and introduced himself. He was so down to earth and really nice ,answered my questions and just was so kind and easygoing. It is such a treat to sit down and listen to all the great little things he does on Smashing Pumpkins songs . I will always be a fan . Please continue making excellent dynamic and technically unique songs with the drums. Thanks Jimmy !
It's nice that he shouted out Jack Bates who isn't even in the band.
Jimmy looks great and is playing fantastic as always. Such a creative drummer.
Not only is he Modern, Jimmy is an elite drummer.
He's still looking and sounding great. What a legend.
Practicing a lot and taking lessons after all these years and success. A lot of guys would just phone it in. Not this guy…a true professional. Much respect!!!
This man is a legend in my generation. So glad to see that his life turned out this way, when I was a kid I thought it was going to be different for him. Thank God.
Amen 🙏
Now this is a good rig rundown. Almost a half an hour long. Can’t beat that
Please for the love of God include more footage of these drummers playing their kits for a little bit
For real I don't get what the purpose of these videos are if we don't get a proper idea of what they sound like in context
@@gordianstimmMore than likely it’s a given that you know what the drummer playing style is and are familiar with their drumming.

Often imitated, never duplicated! Jimmy fuses so many styles and genres together it never fails to impress. And turning his life around after his addiction issues is such an uplifting example of redemption and transformation. Much love Jimmy ❤
Jimmy is a great dude and a serious student of the instrument. His eloquence in speaking about the instrument is equal to his superb playing.
And of course, who doesn't LOVE Vic Salazar?!
I appreciate the shout out by Jimmy around the 3:50 mark🙂
Everyone loves Vic! He introduced me to Jimmy at Hey Nonny because he remembered me from The Drum Pad days
Jimmy is an absolute pro. And he still continues to learn and master his craft. 🤘
Great interview. Vic Salazar is just oozing with knowledge and passion for drums, really loved his rundown.
he's a walking drumming encyclopedia 😁
Billy Corgan describes Jimmy as "Pound for pound, Jimmy Camberlain is the best drummer in the world".
As an amateur drummer Ive always loved Jimmy's playing which is why I have been listening to The Smashing Pumpkins my whole life. But this is one of the most detailed walkthroughs Ive ever heard. His passion and detail really comes through.
The best there is in my humble opinion; no better rock drummer in the world.
It's really nice to see both Jimmy and Billy in good health and sound minds at this stage of their careers. They're turning out really good music too.
PLEASE do a reissue of the Yamaha Jimmy Chamberlin signature snare drum!
Jimmy is among the top 50 drummer of all time!!! He is already a living legend and one of a kind.
Amazing drummer
Too bad modern drummer wasn't around to document his melancholy era tour kit in 1996.. that set up was epic. I love his finesse and that he comes from a jazz background. Coming from a jazz background myself, Jimmy and Mitch Mitchell were huge inspirations for me as jazz drummers in a rock setting.
I will always try to mention Mitch Mitchell in any drum discussion :)
@@t3hgir right? Mitch was awesome and I feel like nobody ever mentions him when people talk about influential drummers or have some sort of top 50 list of drummers in magazines or UA-cam drum channels. Or how people always over use the saying, this drummer is criminally underrated.. lol when it comes to Mitch I truly believe his talent and contributions to drumming is very underrated and overlooked. His chops were amazing. He's actually the drummer that inspired me to learn traditional grip and become better at improv jamming. Every time he played a song live, it was like a new song again because he would always play it differently with so much improv on the spot.
They were and they did. He had an entire cover story in the magazine.
@@natestewart1975 I still have that issue!
@@MrAngryTwinkie me too
man.. one of my favorites. He 100% has his own signature sound. Immediately know its him.
So happy to see Jimmy looking so healthy and happy. He is a musical genius, one of the best rock drummers of all time imo. Look at those biceps, dude is working out, living his best life.
I grew up in the Drum Pad in Palatine, taking lessons, going to clinics, just hangin out. It was the Vic era. He talked just like this to everyone in the store. His love of drumming is palpable. He brought in world class drummers to do clinics for us, it was a huge inspiration to me as a kid. I realize now how lucky I was to have Vic’s influence on my life. That fact that he is the tech for my favorite drummer and band now just really ties it all together. It’s a trip watching this video. God bless these two Chicago legends.
Insanely good drummer. Definitely agree!
Drums is obviously the focus here, but dude is looking shredded as !
When on earth is Jimmy going to put a 'Learn to Drum' product.
He is the most precise, technically advanced drummer I've ever heard. He has a style that is completely his own.
He also has an inredible intellect, and the ability to communicate ideas in such an authentic + meaningful, yet straightforward way.
I believe his tehnical skill, and his amazing communication style, - being able to drill down every little nuance - THAT is an Instructional Package that would help millions of drummers worldwide to reach new heights of excellence.
He is the sole reason I always aspired to be a drummer; and of course it's a lifelong process to become "good" at something
I am still in awe of his recordings 20-30 years later.
Still one of my all time favorite drummers. I'm so happy to see him doing so well after all these years.
I love that a veteran like Jimmy Chamberlain still actively seeks teachers. I feel that's rare.
Jimmy is just f*cking awesome. world class drummer.
awesome Mellon Collie- inspired kit too. that looks just beautiful.
13:49 I could watch this drum cam for and hour. That just massaged by brain.
One of my top 5 favourite drummers ever.
I could listen to Jimmy play all day.
He has his own unique voice and sound.
Love his solo albums even more than the Smashing Pumpkins 👍
Jimmy is a real pro.
Jimmy is one of the greats. Love the fact that he's still using his Yamaha signature snare.
Just saw them a few months ago jimmy is a beast!
The kit is bad ass , jimmy is one hell of a drummer ,love is playing.
Been a fan of this dude since I was about 12 years old . Never heard him do a break beat before. Always a new surprise to listen to.
A man at his level of playing is still taking lessons….that’s awesome. Always something new to learn! Big respect jimmy! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
he is in not underrated at all..we all love this dude..come on!
to be able to play fast and yet hit lighter is not easy at all...which I am guessing is what happens when one approaches this instrument from a jazz type perspective. love it.
Amazing drummer, nice guy, and a saint for being able to put up with corgan for all these years
Look at Jimmy staying in shape.
I'm a newer drummer, going back and learning about all the great rock drummers I grew up listening to... did not expect to hear Smashing Pumpkins' Jimmy Chamberlin playing breakbeats!
That Drumkit is a work of art!
You know, the Grunge era had some great drummers. When you consider that in the early 90s all these guys were in their prime and playing out constantly, you realize just how spoiled we were. Everyone always talks about Grohl, whose great and all but they forget there were plenty others just as good.
For steady groove: Alfredo Hernandez (Kyuss, Qotsa)
Impeccable taste: Mark Pickerel (Screaming Trees)
Versatility: Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins)
For when you want a part in 15/8 to sound natural: Matt Cameron.
let's not forget arguably the pocket king and master of leaving space: eric fucking kretz
Jimmy is a drum encyclopedia
Jimmy’s the kind of player I look forward to when I’m on the road, recording. Super prepped, very little need for discussion about kit sound. I remember drums unusually being a non-issue checking the band for a live recording. More time to find the guitar-voice magic. Jimmy is a crucial part of the band’s sound with a lot of room for natural resonance.
as a 40 something its awesome seeing these guys from the 90's take their seat as our generations all time legends that are still around and touring 30 years later.. Chamberlain, Beauford, Danny Carey,
David Lovering- Pixies
Love this so much! One of the best drummers of all time in my opinion. He’s a legend.
Some Neil Peart vibes around him and his kit. ......Glad he seems well, and good to hear some playing in this as well.
Jimmy is and has always been just extraordinary. I got to work for a band at a show at Double Door years ago that was opening for Zwan and stood behind Jimmy's kit for a second and just marveled at it. Honestly, the thing that was so cool to see was how compact it was. Every possible space was used and nothing seemed far away to get to. It was great to look at.
Years later I had a practice space at The Music Garage and stopped in to get some drum mount. I'm a guitar player but dabble in playing drums and met Vic and he and I talked for a good half hour. He took me around the whole shop, gave me answers to any of the many questions that I had, showed me the practice spaces he had upstairs and then he and I chatted about the Chicago music scene. That man is a wizard when it comes to his drum knowledge. When I saw that he was Jimmy's drum tech recently I went, "Yep. That's perfect."
Awesome video, guys.
Dude I miss Double Door
I didn't know John Hamm was such a monster drummer.
Jimmys my favorite of all time, I love Billy and the various band mates and substitutes over the years, but jimmy is the most complete and natural musician foundational to the band and essential to the sound and feeling of the band. I think he pushes and pulls the best out of Billy. Billy could lead any band and be interesting enough for me to check out but jimmy makes it all ...make sense. I will always aspire to reach Jimmy's purity and fluidity in expression and technique. Beautiful monster.
Wow! Jimmy is one of my favorite drummers. This kit configuration is absolutely amazing! I love the Istanbul cymbal setup. All of the efx cymbals make such beautiful layers of sounds. The drum configuration is awesome too. His Drum Tech is so knowledgeable, I could listen to him all day long. It's important to me to know the history of stuff. Thanks for the epic video!
...Jimmy is back the Pumpkins?! How did I not know!!!
Vic sure knows his stuff. Very interesting to hear him explain everything and the thinking behind the drums.
Great behind the scenes thanks
😎👍🇺🇸💪🥁💣🔊🎼JIMMY!!!
Glad to see your keeping Vic busy!
I've been a gigantic fan since I first heard Gish in around 1991....he's up there for me with the legends of rock, guys an absolute monster on the kit.
Beautiful kit!
Cool video. Great to see Jimmy and Vic!
Killer player. I remember the first time I heard the first 20 seconds of the Gish LP, like it was 5 minutes ago. Completely floored me. Then the rest of the band kicked in and I just sat still and listened, mesmerized, until the whole LP had played through. Only a handful of drummers are like that for me, but Jimmy is one of them for sure.
Funnily enough, the drum intro on I Am One was actually written by Billy.
@@JT-nd6qp I had not heard that, but given Billy's musical abilities it is not surprising. I've heard that other bands have done similar things - e.g. in the early 80s Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee would program drum machine parts while they were composing demos, and then let Neil listen to it. In some cases, he would try to duplicate the parts they had programmed. Of course, what got recorded in the studio didn't sound like a computer - it sounded like Neil. And Jimmy always sounds like Jimmy. He has a unique sound on the kit that is very recognizable (at least for drummers). McCartney and Ringo are another example like this. Ringo was also immediately recognizable on the kit, even if he was playing something that Paul asked for.
Super cool.👌🏻
GREAT CONTENT THANKS
the "Guns & Roses " cowbell lol
Always loved Jimmy's playing!! Such a versitile player..
Great video
Jimmy is the man.
Jimmy has always been an influence on me when it comes to drumming, plus we have the same birthday. That’s incredible.
Enjoyed watching this. Awesome kit! You Rock Jimmy! 👍👍DC
Total badass

Epic wisdom from the boss!
That's a beautiful drumkit....
Love it- Jimmy you look fab and healthy! All the best⚡️🥁⚡️
Yes! JC! At 55 and been playing drums for 40 years now, he’s my fav all time. Still got my MD mag with him on cover from 2000. Learned so much watching him. Often imitated never duplicated drummer, and he’s a professor of drums for sure! Thanks for this
Dude, he's 58 😜
"the groove from Fred" Tony Williams :)
One of my favorite drummers! Love Jimmy's playing!
Really loving these kit rundown videos keep em coming!
Jimmy & Vic are such talented individuals.
I love that Jimmy is doing well and still making music. :-]]]

Huge inspiration on my drumming growing up, so love knowing that he's still trying to grow and improve.
