    This just reminds me of what an amazing recovery story Jimmy has. He got his shit together and helped keep the Pumpkins alive for the past 17-18 years. So awesome and Jimmy is easily one of rocks greatest drummers ever. We all win from his success by getting to hear him kick ass on dem drums.

      I agree. Of course in a sick/artistic way the drugs made that album (MCIS) so dark it is beautiful beyond words, no one wants that kind of suffering for any human being but it really does make the art different/special. I am so glad he is well now. He is 'weller 'than me lol

    1993 first met TSP and Butch Vig while recording 'Siamese Dream' near Atlanta. They had booked the studio to get Jimmy away from his drug buds up North. It didn't work. He was still fighting addiction when we opened for them on April 9, 1994 - a day after Kurt Cobain's suicide was discovered. I think this shook him to his own fate if he didn't kick.
    Congratulations to Jim - a friend, and survivor of those strange days.

      Ryan B. - Lots of people have an untreated "mental illness". It's very common, but their lives would be better if they took a daily med. & also had a couple trips to the psychiatrist.
      Unfortunately, there is still some resistance to getting help, & totally unnecessary shame attached to going to get help.
      More people overall, I think, are going to get help, before it's too late, or they damage their lives & reputation.

      I think he looked over at James at that point because of something about the two overdose incidents that they both knew about....like maybe one of them was defending Jimmy and Jonathan OR one was accusing and then that person realized the truth and felt stupid,
      The way James chimes in it seems like maybe he was defending them or maybe he was telling Billy he thought there was a problem all along - something like that.
      Definitely seems like they weren't on the same page about it till after the 2nd OD based on what they're saying(and aren't saying) and their body language/nervous laughter.

    • @Uhohlisa
      @Uhohlisa 6 років тому +4

      roger murray, are you serious? Like, please Google this, it's well accepted that Billy Corgan is not only one of the most difficult people to get along with, that he is a walking contrarian who has contradicted himself about almost every celebrity he's ever dealt with just to get a headline or cash-grab. I mean, we're talking about a man that swears on his life that he knows lizard people are real because he saw someone once transform into another person in front of him. The band stopped making good music shortly after this interview, with Ava Adore being critically and commercially a flop, and Billy doing anything he can since then to maintain the status he once so enjoyed. I love early SP, but it's like you're from 1999 and haven't read a single headline regarding Corgan since then..

    I think some people have a hard time understanding addiction like that. Billy seems pissed off he was lied to, "We wont do it again" etc. But they weren't lying because they were deceptive bad people, they genuinely wanted it to never happen again. But they were being controlled by one of the most powerful addictions to exist on this planet. You have to at least try to understand what that means. They needed help rather than condemnation. I get that this is hard for a lot of people raised during the WAR ON DRUGS to appreciate, but it is true and has been proven many times.

    I guess nobody can play better for the Smashings than Jimmy... The Smashing Pumpkins is Billy, Jimmy, James and Darcy, period. The Pumpkins by 2012 was only Billy with other musicians trying to play The Smashing Pumpkins song's. It cannot be the same without them.

    • @theinternetkilledmusic2054
      @theinternetkilledmusic2054 6 років тому +1

      I think that is just about practice though. They will have rehearsed everything so hard in the early days because they all needed to get good at it together. Now you have Billy who can play everything standing on his head so he probably isn't motivated to work the band hard in practices day after day anymore. But if they did that, they could be as good.

    Fantastic band and mixed feelings about Corgan. On the one hand, he is a super-talented singer-songwriter (one of the best of his day alongside Cobain and Stephen Malkmus, Jeff Buckley and many others) and is clearly very intelligent and articulate and I love their music but sometimes I just wish he would shut up and let the others get a frickin' word in. I don't know if it's his ego or just his mind going too fast or what.....maybe a bit of both.

    • @betsybabf748
      @betsybabf748 5 років тому +9

      You don't seem to comprehend it. It is not "throwing them under the bus" (and seriously, we're not 7th graders), but placing all responsibility and ownership on them, as they are the only ones who can do it, which only happens when all responsibility and ownership lies openly with them.

    • @despicabledog
      @despicabledog 5 років тому +2

      BA BF you're an idiot. I AM an ex-heroin user, and I've been one for 6 years before I finally was able to quit. Do you know what happened when people revealed my issues to other people? I told them to fuck off, and, if anything, I'd do more H because I was pissed off. I quit because I wanted to, not because people were talking behind my back (or not). Revealing private things such as drug addiction in an interview that is going to be watched by millions of people is not lying responsibility and ownership upon a person, it's being a scumbag. If they really cared they would have helped
      him, first by having a serious
      discussion and not pressuring people that have drug issues by asking them constantly
      "have you taken drugs?? are you sober??" like these idiots admitted they did, which only makes a person want to get high even more, and, secondly, having him rehabilitated in a facility that supplies buprenorphine or
      methadone (I don't know about the US but it's free here... and even if it wasn't, they have enough money to
      pay for one). They are scumbags (which I expected from Billy but not James and D'arcy) and no one should ever put individuals who have serious issues such as drug addiction and likely depression under public scrutiny. It has never helped and never will. Quitting opioids is hard, it's a lifelong battle, and has little if nothing to do with responsibility. When your addicted to heroin and you don't take it you feel sick and you need a long acting opioid like methadone to stop
      the withdrawal symptoms and to be able to taper
      off and gradually recover (upregulate) the opioid receptors. All the media coverage and pressure will not
      make any difference if a person is sick. They could have avoided Jonathan's dead but they did nothing
      even though they knew he had overdosed a few months earlier and this was after Kurt Cobain death so they all
      knew the risks involved in heroin addiction. They just didn't care, and the way Billy talks about him and Chamberlain shows what a little man he is.

    They obviously didn't understand how addiction works at this stage. It's the hardest addiction because it's much harder to stop than any of the others. Even if people want to stop they need alot of help and support to do so. If they get ostracised for their addiction and isolated they will feel ashamed and just spiral and use more.
