"This is the accretion disk of a supermassive blackhole. But I use it as a crash."
- Tomas Haake
stolen comment. i use it as a crash tho
@@HerbalistGuybrush I wanna apologise for the stolen comment, but Tomas is using the apology as a crash.
"This here is a custom cymbal made out of lost confidence from other drummers. I use it as a crash. It's a bit dark sounding, but it works ."
MrBillATW 🤘🏼🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘🏼
Casual Alphaic snack on the psyche of all underlings. lol Just basically says how it is.
😆😆😆😆
Sick hahaha
MrBillATW my shattered hopes are also in it 😂

"This is Rick Harrison and this is his pawn shop. He works here with old man, and his son, big hoss. Everything in here has a story, and a price. One thing he's learned after 21 years - you never know what is gonna come through that door, but I'll use it as a crash."
Gunnar Streuli
Customer - “Today I have a really special item; a crash cymbal. It’s made from a chunk of the planet Neptune that fell to Earth over 20,000 years ago and was fashioned into a cymbal by the Atlanteans. It’s the heaviest know object in the universe, and It was passed along from generation to generation until it was recently used by Tomas Haake on the latest Meshuggah album.”

"This is my 80" Paiste symphonic gong. I use it as a crash."
I'm rolling on the floor laughing my ass off
hahaha Oh man! Fuckin nailed it
As a splash
The image of a big gong where one of his crash cymbals should be is funny. Imagining him playing Bleed with an occasional high pitched, short lived crash being switched to a deep, multiple measure GOOONNNGGGGG has me laughing so hard I’m crying and I can’t breathe.
Hahaha!!
For a swede, his English is far better than most native english speakers.
That's because they learn it from the technical side of English. Pretty much any native speaker you'll meet will have learned English from the casual side of the language, so they're bound to use colloquial words and patterns that are technically incorrect but are understood perfectly. You can be fluent in a language and be unable to carry a conversation with a native speaker.
MeisterNes he's a greek god!!
His accent is super-American, too. I wouldn't know he wasn't American from his accent, if that makes sense.
Right? I will never get used to that accent sounding so....American/Canadian lol. His English is damn near (if not) perfect!
MeisterNes He knows more English words than I care to learn.
"This is Windows 95. I used it until it crashed."
Wtf bro! I woke up my girlfriend in the room I laughed so hard!
Bro. I'm so hep😂😂😂😂
Made my day, bro. LMFAO
If I could like this comment 100 times I would.
You win.
Tomas is an unreal talent. But more importantly, seems like such a good dude with literally zero ego. A gem.
They be on that 🍄
"This is the accretion disc of a black hole. But I use it as a crash."
ossibossi100 best one and most reasonable lol
Tomas could be talking about the science of making a perfect ice cream sundae and I'd be utterly enthralled.

2:39 "I use it as a crash" - classic Tomas Haake.
On the next album he will use them as splashes.
well, your comment hit me unexpectedly well, sir x*D
2022: "i use these 14 inch hi hats as traditional gongs"
Hahaha he probably will
"I use it as a splash"
"This is the Liberty Bell. I use it as a Crash. Sorry for the crack" - Tomas Haake
"this is a 78 AMC gremlin, my first car. I use it as a crash."
Yeah, I crashed it, so now I use It as a crash
These are my sticks. I use them as a crash
And why do you have a bundle of major league baseball bats on stage? Tomas: Those are my sticks!
"This is the complete discography of Houston cloud rapper, Viper. I use it as a crash."
jackrubyn ahahahaha! You'll cowards don't even use it as a crash.
LMAO I could totally see Viper as a Meshuggah fan
Lol up until just a few weeks ago, I would not have gotten that reference, but now I have been enlightened
A Viper refence under a Thomas Haake video... No matter what happens from this day forward, I can die at peace. I unironically love both so much haha.
"This is jens's head, I use it as a crash"

"This is the femur bone of my great grandmother, but I use it as a crash."
“This is the observable universe. I use it as a crash”
I came for the gear breakdown, I replayed the video so I could keep reading all those "I use it as a crash" comments. 😂😂🤣🤣
2:25 And here is a vibrating Tomas Haake.
"This is a really kind of a soft, like glove that I don't even know what it's used for. Oh wait I do, I use it as a crash."
It was really neat to see each of individual pieces of the kit that one of my biggest drumming inspirations uses. I do one day hope to be on the same level as Tomas. Also that clip of him forgetting to switch back to his American accent at 6:17 has me dying.
6:17 Tomas went full Viking for a split second.
he _is_ full viking.
Not really, vikings have been extinct for a thousand years.
BeardedDanishViking tell that to his beard.😂
If a beard is all one needs to be identified as a viking in your world, you need to read a fecking book.
@@BeardedDanishViking wooooooooooosh
Fuck they sound good live... Haake looks like a super chill guy, love his interviews :D
"This is Jessica, my girlfriend. I use her as a crash" - Tomas Haake.
"This is the Sun, but I use it as a crash."
A little known fact is that Tomas was actually the Hindenburg pilot. People wanted to use it as a zeppelin but Tomas thought differently I guess.
underrated comment
Excellent delivery…so good I’ll use it as a crash.
i dont play drums or know virtually anything about instruments but i love this band so much, im so invested in these irl videos of them
‚These are two 16“ Crashes. I use them as contact lenses.‘
This dude can count to 100 as good as no one else
Thomas is one of the coolest and humble, master drummers out there. He's just so chill in every interview I've seen him in.
- there's your name on the stick! - yeah, yeah, i guess... :D :D
Finding a comment that isn't about "I use it as a crash" here is harder than finding one that isn't about "Ninooo" in all Gordon Ramsay related content.
Copy cat clones.
Follow the leader mentality.
Does he use them as a crash too?
"Sometimes my mom comes to see a show. I use her as a crash."
Tomas Haake be like: "this is my 100 inch tv. i use it as a crash"
By far my favourite drummer, he´s a monster when playing.
I come back once a year to use this video as a crash.
Mario Duplantier next please
"This is a pack of skittles and Hershey bar taped together, but I use it mostly as a crash"
Great Video!!!! Short and sweet, covered everything. Very informing, thank you!!
"this is uhh..the virgo supercluster, I use it as a crash. Got a nice dark tone to it. Super heavy"
Looking forward to more, enjoyed this. Nice job. Much Love Miccoli
Trick pedal user here. I'm blown away he went back to that old, crappy spring Tama pedal. Not knocking Tama, I was brought up on Iron Cobras.
Haake is incredible man! I can listen to him to play all day
Great interview with the best drummer of all time!
I don't like the music but I absolutely LOVE his drumming!!
You gotta love Tomas... He is soo real.. Really cool guy
that 21'' china is massive. he has such a great kit.
“This is my drum throne, but i use it as a crash” thomas haake
"This is a custom 38" crash cymbal. I use it as a splash"
Sit down kids and listen to this master of metal !
Every cymbal right before any gig: *Brace yourselves brothers and sisters, here it goes again.*
I've been a Meshuggah fan since 1995.....this video has to be the most informative, insightful video I've seen in a long time. Super Cool!! Very interesting to get in Tomas brain about this stuff!
Brilliant video. You did a great job of getting him to do the talking aswell. Keep it up man
Legend!
Awesome. Every Sabian Cymbal he has there is awesome! 🤘🏻🎶🥁😎🦅David Curtis
"The other day I ran into Chuck Norris and I now use him as a crash..." Thomas Haake
That was a fucking awsome comment :D
wish they would put out the full footage of the live playing. the sound is fantastic!
I love how precise he is in his choices. He has super specific reasons for choosing his sounds, his gloves, etc. Impressive.
that audio from the gig at the beginning is BRUTAL
Every time i watch tomas, i’m taken aback by his command of the american accent. It’s almost perfect. Maybe one of two words per sentence give him away. Other than that, he basically sounds like some dude who grew up in the midwest
Many people in the midwest are Scandinavian in origin so maybe that explains the accent.
This is a 8mm bell brass snare.
I like a darker sound, so i use it as a crash.
His speech is really flowing like a human. Robots these days are really well programmed.
Great band, great drummer
Dude sounds just like Louis CK
Wow, he does!
Badministrator with an accent though
Badministrator i wonder if he says vaginer😂😂😂
Kalin Puls he says "main China" instead 1:26
Badministrator HOLY FUCK!!!!!!
LEGEND!!
Wonderful!
Glad Oisín is doing well. He used to play for one of my favorite groups, which is Enemies.
That's awesome he uses Tama Speed Cobras. I just got a Speed Cobra double pedal and absolutely love it. Really fast and smooth but with lots of power.
Hell yeah. Awesome to see Tomas uses tama speed cobras. IMO, the new updated iron cobras and speed cobras are the best pedals ever to my feet.
If you told me this dude was from St. Paul, Minnesota I'd fully believe you. Guy just masters the technical aspects of everything I guess.
Very interesting and useful video! I've found out all things I want to know about this stuff.
What a great interview! The questions were so precise and thought provoking and warranted equally as interesting responses. You can always tell when someone is passionate about what they're interviewing about and that when asked the right question a normally stoic guy will really give you some golden responses! Wow.
I know fuck-all about drumming, but I could listen Tomas talk about it for hours❤️
10:47 -- it's a Tegera 9105 work glove!
Love the Portsmout sinfonica intro😎👍
Jeez, those sticks are like logs.
Awesome guy, seems super nice.
"These are the spaceships I snagged from Area 51, they are used as my secondary main open hi-hat"
"This is your mom. I use her as a crash" - Thomas Haake
"See this right here, Oisin....this is your manhood when your graced by legendary presence. I use it as a crash".
Nice on wincett sticks..I'm a Tommy Aldridge signature stick guy..17" and oak for consistency..I also use a drywall saw to rough up the sticks for loosening of grip..
i have seen so many videos about this unique man for quite some time now, i ve bought my first meshuggah cd at 95 so naturally my first hearing was future breed machine lol, i think i will never forget my reaction anyway thats beside the point, what i wanted to share is that this man could easily be the original terminator whose ai just simply adapted to working around humans and learned/figured out a few basic human emotions and like around late 80s he joined this band and he has become what he is today...when i heard him say he gets nervous if he has different crushes , i laughed so hard ...this man is the epitomy of cool and technique in such an extraordinary way that it feels more logical to consider him a robot passing for a human being...
I'm sure Tomas has been speaking English for several decades at this point, but his English is so crisp and authentic sounding. Swedes seem to speak English as a 2nd language so much better than most other Europeans, Asians, Africans, etc. Their accents just sound like a mix of northern European + the midwest so they're not difficult to understand.
One day hes just going to rip of his human mask to reveal a super computer powered cyborg in a human suit
True!
And he'll use his human suit as a crash!
Gotta love a video that starts with the Portsmouth Sinfonia :D
FINALLY somebody who knows how to pronounce Haake!
This is the tire to an 18 wheeler, it’s not what most metal drummers go for ...but I use it as a crash
Thomas is the man....
I dont even know anything about percussion gear, but its very interesting to hear how tomas describes how he uses it
The one drummer when I listen to and I can’t find the “1.” Insanely brilliant player.
