The image of a big gong where one of his crash cymbals should be is funny. Imagining him playing Bleed with an occasional high pitched, short lived crash being switched to a deep, multiple measure GOOONNNGGGGG has me laughing so hard I’m crying and I can’t breathe.
It was really neat to see each of individual pieces of the kit that one of my biggest drumming inspirations uses. I do one day hope to be on the same level as Tomas. Also that clip of him forgetting to switch back to his American accent at 6:17 has me dying.
I'm sure Tomas has been speaking English for several decades at this point, but his English is so crisp and authentic sounding. Swedes seem to speak English as a 2nd language so much better than most other Europeans, Asians, Africans, etc. Their accents just sound like a mix of northern European + the midwest so they're not difficult to understand.
I've been a Meshuggah fan since 1995.....this video has to be the most informative, insightful video I've seen in a long time. Super Cool!! Very interesting to get in Tomas brain about this stuff!
I keep hearing about drummers who are supposed to be "the shit" and when I check them out I am often underwhelmed. I'm rarely impressed and hardly ever excited. It got to the point where I started thinking I might be overly critical. That I might even have unrealistic expectations of what a HUMAN drummer can actually deliver. Then I hear Tomas Haake again...
Finding a comment that isn't about "I use it as a crash" here is harder than finding one that isn't about "Ninooo" in all Gordon Ramsay related content.
Every time i watch tomas, i’m taken aback by his command of the american accent. It’s almost perfect. Maybe one of two words per sentence give him away. Other than that, he basically sounds like some dude who grew up in the midwest
What a great interview! The questions were so precise and thought provoking and warranted equally as interesting responses. You can always tell when someone is passionate about what they're interviewing about and that when asked the right question a normally stoic guy will really give you some golden responses! Wow.

Many people in the midwest are Scandinavian in origin so maybe that explains the accent.
