We didn’t deserve this band when Billy and Jimmy brought it back in 2007. Seriously the set was so perfect. They sped through. I don’t think the crowd was ready for this manifestation of SP. The Harmonies are amazing, organ and bass so rocking!! Jeff was such a big part of the power during his time with SP. jimmy sweating and killing it. Billy flawless. This was vocally and guitar complete masterpiece. So thankful he didn’t quit even if the crowd and people weren’t ready for it. @Billy
I'll never understand why this era did not draw the people they are now. They aren't close live right now to this. Legacy greatest hits, slow tempos, guitars are weak
@StvRh the fact you think he's a rhythm guitarist let's me know you don't really know what you're talking about. He plays lead on every album. It's okay though. Merry Christmas.
The wild thing is they had only been playing as a unit for a few months here. I LOVED the 2008 tours. I was devastated when Jimmy left and Corgan let go of Ginger and Lisa and blew it up. I still enjoyed the Teargarden and Oceania era but that version of the band was musically a big step down from the prog monster of the 07-08 lineup.
They were really firing on all cylinders here. The guitar tones sound amazing and JC is an absolute BEAST. This setlist found a comfortable balance between old and new, something they struggled with initially. Looking back, this was an incredibly prolific and creative period for the band. BC still had a real appetite to get after it in full force. Many incredible songs came out of this time such as Stellar, That's The Way, and the entire 'If All Goes Wrong' batch. The last vestiges of the real energy of SP before the 20th anniversary tour started the downward spiral.
I got into this bad right around this period. Zeitgeist was my introduction and I worked my way backwards through the catalog. This period was unreal in that it offered something for everyone. Loud ass distorted guitars, check. Thunderous drumming with the precision of a god, check. Progressive rock jams that can last an upwards of 30 minutes, check. Acoustic ballads that served as the precursor for American Gothic, you bet your fucking ass. Their residencies and 20th century tour I consider some of their peak performances.
Seen very few people get the trajectory right. They have sounded like crap since James came back they took the amps off the stage and chained Jimmy to a click
@@hilum17 maybe, played a smaller outdoor place in summer of 18 in one of the Nordic countries and the lack of stage volume idk, guitar magic is gone . Its not even close
First time they started Hummer with a Bass solo.. fucking epic from Ginger Pooley.. and yeah unreal that Jimmy is there...my opinion...one of the best drummers in the world
LOL. They have skipped the bass intro before but it was rare and certainly never after the MCIS tour. Poke around here and see for yourself: archive.org/details/SmashingPumpkins
I think Stand Inside Your Love is my favorite song ever. I love the apparent passion Billy has in this performance of it. What a passionate selfless song. Definitely a fitting song to have the given description by Corgan of being about "Divine Love". God is definitely a huge part of the Machina album. I know Billy and I probably wouldn't agree on everything about God, but as a Jesus follower and lover of good music, Machina is a musical masterpiece dear to my heart. Also, I think this is a very underrated era of the Pumpkins. It's not Mellon Collie or Siamese Dream, but it certainly is a unique, ambitious effort in their catalogue. God bless you, music lovers. Thank God for the gift of music edit: Stand Inside Your Love 26:41
The Pumpkins are one of my top favorites overall! Why I like them so much is you have Billy who has a unique, passionate voice that is very rare, coupled with the charging guitars and Jimmy's Drums - just phenomenal!! I was fortunate to see them when they played at the Warfield in SF about 7 years ago. They played a perfect set!
I saw them play it at Riot Fest in Chicago a few years back whilst on mushrooms it was every bit as amazing as that sounds. I will say though that the solo bridge part wasn't the same "star spangled banner" and was just random noise so it wasn't as good as this performance is. They had some older guy guest guitarist for that song.
The track listing forgot Doomsday Clock after Superchrist. Otherwise, this concert was AWESOME. Thank you for this. I couldn't believe how good it was. Bring the Light has never been so good.
Wow the best quality upload I have seen of this. They were on fire in 07. So many gems in this set. Perfect, Set The Ray, Pomp, Drown, Superchrist, SIYL etc...
If he didn’t speak his mind, he would be. He’d also be in the Hall of Fame too. Artists who speak their mind of issues, politics, culture, fans, etc are crucified.
This barely has over 40k views.Thats crazy. What a Show. Melancholy and The Infinite Sadness/Machina Part 2 is coming, they said they will drop at least one track this December with the 33 track album in 2022.
Great to see Chamberlin healthy and happy and looking good. Bravo sir, bravo! Hope he is still doing well now 16 years later. He reminds me of Clive Owen a bit. What an amazing voyage of a life for the Pumpkins. They will be remembered for a very very long time I suspect. Long after we are all gone and forgotten. Sigh.

Jimmy is the best drummer to ever sit behind a kit. Such a fucking stud.
