Honestly I am still miffed that Azog survived in the Hobbit films. It was nice that Bolg primary goal was to avenge his father in the book. An allmost sympathetic motive which orks often lack. And its much more interesting, not just for him but for the dwarfs themselves with a cycle of vengance and so on.
I guess after the war between the dwarves and the orcs (which was fought almost as a war of anihilation) the hate between this people were so deep, that there could never be peace. The theme of vengeance return in the Lord of the Rings when the orcs from Moria follow the Fellowship over hundreds of miles not for plunder or because Sauron or Saruman told them to do so, but to take revenge for their slain comrades and chieftain.
It would have made for a better story if Azog died. You have Thorin and Bolg, both enemies, but with the same goal of avenging a great loss for their people. You could have had some similarities between them. Also, as you said, it makes the Orcs more sympathetic and shows the darker side of Tolkien's universe with the hatred between the races.

Just rewatching the slaying of *Smaug* ! Sauron really should have invested more onto Gundabad Orc sub species they were far much more valuable compared to regular diminutive snaga
@@randomelite4562 I’m very late to this lmao. There was a video I watched from one of the really good Lotr lore channels that described the Orcs of Gundabad as on average, bigger, stronger and more savage than the Mordor Orcs. Hence why they could hold on to Gundabad for as long as they have
Tolkien’s descriptions of Middle-Earth history is what originally peaked my curiosity into real history, and as a young lad it eventually inspired me to become an historian.

Beorn=Game Changer. "Nothing could withstand him..." Beorn literally killed all of Bolgs bodyguards, and then crushed Bolg himself. Lesson: Don't mess with a giant man who can transform into a bear who's size is greater the more pisssed off he gets.
To be fair I did not think the orcs had done him any recent harm, and his home was far away from their normal raiding area, so he choose to join the battle at own will. There may be past grudge between him and the orcs (but I do not believe in the way the films imply). It is interesting that the wargs in the Hobbit acted almost as creatures which were as much as clever as men, since they had their leaders, made alliances with the orcs and were willing to march with them over great distances for a common goal. Even without direct intervention from Sauron, the "bad" forces coordinated their actions often between different tribes and races, as much as the "good" one.

From how the Dominion began, the discovery of the Gamma Quadrant, how the war started, the invasion, and the battle of Cardasia. Not to mention the Federation-Klingon conflicts from TOS to TNG.
You forgot one CRUCIAL detail: after killing Azog, Dain peeked inside Moria, and he saw the Balrog waiting. That's the reason why he discouraged the Dwarves to retake Khazad-dum after the Battle of Azanulbizar. Other major mistake: the Istari arrived in Middle Earth in TA 1000. Thorin's band was captured in Gundabad!
3 of the Istari arrived in TA1000, but the Blue Wizards were later established to have arrived in SA1600. Same year that Sauron crafts the One Ring, an intriguing coincidence.
@@JainaSoloB312 as far as I remember, the Valar sent the Istari when they became aware of Sauron rebirth. Their purpose was to reinstate "the balance of things". Since Sauron was reborn in TA 1000, the Istari arrived at that time. It's pretty helpful to understand the meaning of Professor Tolkien's works, despite all of the afterthought of all fans and literates that tried to interpret his writings.
@@_A.d.G_ Yes that was lore, but Tolkien's later writings have the Blue Wizards (now named Morinehtar and Rómestámo) arriving in Middle-earth in SA1600. It's kind of up to us which version we prefer to take as canon, but neither is incorrect.

EXCELLENT! The thought & research put into this post is outstanding, the narration is spot-on and the graphics combine with the whole to clearly show the ebb & flow of the war and the final battle. Tolkien would have loved this.

The Black Arrow was forged by "the true King under the Mountain" but not specifically Thror. This in itself is unusual, because it was the Numenoreans were the ones who invented steel bows and arrows.
Just rewatching the slaying of *Smaug* ! Sauron really should have invested more onto Gundabad Orc sub species they were far much more valuable compared to regular diminutive snaga
The Orcs of the Misty Mountains *were* Snaga, lmao. The Orcs of Mordor and eventually Isengard were tougher
I think I might pay you real, honest-to-god money if you did an episode on the Cylon annihilation of the Twelve Colonies from Battlestar Galactica. Holy Christ the logistics of that assault would be a treat to watch you animate!
Fighting at the Somme really did a number on Tolkien
His ww1 experience is why he got his despise of technology and modern warfare, and why he chose to create a medieval based universe
@@the_feedle fun fact Numenor was in his early drafts steampunk
Excellent video!! Glad to see Beorn getting his well deserved due. Don't know why they couldn't have had the battle play out like it was supposed to in the movie.
Oh god I 😂 my ass off when that happened in the film. Felt so random and unexpected when it happened. But in the films did they visit beorn home?
yeah well, i think peter jackson got the hollywood flew. making three movies out of one book was the first mistake, changing too much of the story the second, making it a flashy, action-comedy drama the third. a shame really, i was so hyped for it after lotr...
@@marcbartuschka6372 well said Mellon!
Yeah, he was pretty much the Hulk.
"What's the difference between Bolg and an accordion after Beorn is through with him?"
"Nothing."
Loving this new channel! What other fantasy battles are you guys planning on covering?
I'd like to vote for some of the battles in the Malazan series if there's a vote.
I greatly appreciate the efforts placed into this channel's content. The background and lore, followed by the battle, are extraordinary. Your channel has grown so quickly, deservedly so. I am anticipating all of the fantastical and futuristic battles yet to come. I hope 2022 is the year of Wizards & Warriors!
Will you be doing Battlestar Galactica?
I’m loving this so far. Hope you’ll do Star Trek soon. I would love too see your take on the Dominion Wars. From how the Dominion began, the discovery of the Gamma Quadrant, how the war started, the invasion, and the battle of Cardasia. Not to mention the Federation-Klingon conflicts from TOS to TNG.
The wars of the third age are truly epic in their battles and great in their tragedies.
I would love to see some battles from the Expanse
@@JainaSoloB312 what "later writings"?

Beorn is the real MVP of the Battle of five armies
This was so rad!
If you guys want to do another science fiction battle, do the battle for Reach from Halo!
There's a lot of material from the books and the game of course
Amazing coverage! I'd be absolutely psyched if you guys also covered the War of the Jewels aswell as the events of the Years of the Trees! Much love from Portugal!
Can't wait for your next video, hopefull about the Warhammer Fantasy Third Battle of the Black Fire Pass or Battle of La Maisontaal or the Battle of Praag or Kislev 🥰🥰🥰 cheerssss!!
Excellent video! I would absolutely love to see videos on Warmachine - the first and second assaults on the Thornwood Necrofactorium, of Khador's conquest of Llael
I think, that Nain was killed by Azog in different way, that you showed, guys! If I'm not misstaken, Azog put a powerfull blow to Nain's neck protection, which wistood a hit, but no a Nain's neck bones! Sorry, if I'm wrong!
Yes you´re right, nice observation!
Cool thing about Tolkien is you can pick up neat little details like this one if it catches your eye/ear. It's noted in the Appendix at the end of the Lord of the Rings in the Dwarf section. Would have been cool if they mentioned the burned dwarf thing too.
It's not like I don't know all of this already, but the art in and of itself is already worth a watch!
I love that these videos give me an above average knowledge of the LOTR universe and history
If you’re looking for a sci-fi universe to study, might I suggest “The Legend of the Galactic Heroes”? It’s a gold mine of complex strategic maneuvering and intricate battlefield tactics.
Once again watched from beginning to end, also I love seeing the elven parkoring over sheildwalls comments.
Well done Wizards & Warriors channel, other projects you could take a look at one day include Dragonlance which is a massive saga as it has prelude stories, history stories & hero stories surrounding its main story. Should you decide to tell the Chronicles trilogy story, you could start with the 6 prelude books as an intro. this would be quite a series. just an idea
i enjoyed this more than the first lotr video. focused more on the strategy and better battle coverage at the end there. currently reading the hobbit for the first time so this was a special treat. good work!
there is so much lore. i read lotr first, than came the movies, than read the hobbit, silmarillon and hurins children. was confused at first (not the biggest fan of the last two mentions at first), but after some research (there a quite a few good middle earth channels here on youtube as well) it started fit together. tolkien was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century...
@@maxmustermann369 i agree completely. a true visionary and his works are the most detailed of any fantasy works. everything fits and makes sense. i have watched channels on youtube cover almost every age and event of the history of middle earth but just now got the book set for christmas. not only is the lore masterful his writing is as well. may the star of earendil guide us home!

@@ProvidenceNL why
Hey do Starcraft Univers
The battle of the five armies was one of the most devastating battles in the third age. Several dwarves, elves and men died fighting against the orcs.
But it also destroyed the goblin/orc power in the north.
Only several? 🤔🤣
@@MasterMalrubius not really, with the whole of the misty mountains still in their hands. i d rather say they avoided total collapse of everthing to the west and east of it...
@@maxmustermann369 I guess most of the dead orcs were soldiers from the Northerns Misty Mountain and some of the Grey Mountains. Surely there were several groups which did not really take part in the battle, since they were too far off.
@@maxmustermann369 the battle of Dale is way more important as it stopped the whole easterling and northern orks from joining the battle. Without the seige of Dale a horde from the north would destroy Minas Tirith in a stroke.
If only the movies followed the source material, then we would’ve had a true battle. Here’s to hoping Amazon does middle earth justice but in the meantime we will always have wizards and warriors 👍
Considering the way they destroyed Wheel of Time, I'm not optimistic.
It’s not looking good sadly
Not too optimistic there...
the siege of caputsan from the MBotF is one of the most epic battles in the fantasy genre. any MBotF content would make me very happy
One of the best series on UA-cam.
Do you think the ring that bilbo found will be important later on?
Nah don't think so, but it is a pretty thing....such a little thing....my precious
ASK Sauron.
Please consider covering the Chain of Dogs from the Malazan book series!
I think I said it on another video, but I would love to see you guys cover the Stormlight Archive. The strategic and tactical implications of things like Shardplate and highstorms completely change the way warfare works in that setting and it would be a blast to see you cover it.
Please consider taking a look at the battles in the Valkyria Chronicles Series and the the game Final Fantasy Tactics.
Yes Valkiria Chronicles of How a tiny nation Stud up against 2 empires
This may be my favourite doc yet (probably because I love dwarves, and the hobbit tale 😊)
Excellent video! Thats exactly what I needed. I mean the whole channel. But theres one thing - the mention about Istari sounded like they were sent to Middle Earth after the dwarves left Lonely Mountain because of Smaug, but they were in the M-E since around 1000 of third age and the Lonely Mountain was abandoned in 2210 of t.a.
I am very excited about you all eventually covering Morgoth's Wars of Belariand.
Hey, where's the part where a lone elvish princeling defies the laws of physics and invents temporary levitation?
EXCELLENT! The thought & research put into this post is outstanding, the narration is spot-on and the graphics combine with the whole to clearly show the ebb & flow of the war and the final battle. Tolkien would have loved this.
Y'all are keeping Devin crazy busy with all these videos!
I would love if you covered First Age stuff like the Battle Under Stars and the Fingolfin vs Morgoth duel.
i'm a simple man if I see a Middle-earth lore video I like
God damn I love you guys! PLEASE ALWAYS keep your videos on youtube! Absolutely brilliant chaps! I always wanted to start a youtube channel to create history quite like this but by Mars, you guys have done it!
Excellent video! I am impressed and glad you used the books. The movies were great but they did not have much information. Well done!
I question I have since the start of this channel: do you plan to cover fictionnal universes from anime too ? I am thinking for example a series of videos about the universe of Attack on Titan and the different battles that took place there
I hope they do Attack on Titan in the future too.
I think this fantasy lore deserves open world RPG game, something like TES, where you can pick the various exact era for your game start, and also you can pick race and moreover the exact faction.
This was an awesome video! I just read The Hobbit (for the fourth or fifth time) over Christmas break and I'm currently working on the Lord of the Rings. The movies are pretty good interpretations of both stories, but I really appreciate you for sticking to the narratives from the books. Great job.

Heck yes!! *Happy dance*🎶🎶 I love this channel, great job as always y'all! If the North wasn't won, I believe the War of the Ring would have had a completely different outcome, Gandalf is the true MVP. Until next time...
“May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks.”
damn that was an awesome video! i just wish that beorn got more of a spotlight in the movie like he did in the book. Seeing a massive bear charge through a line of elite orcs destorying them before eventually tearing apart bolg would've been bloody awesome to see
Please make a video about the Battle for Doldrey from Berserk!!!
id say first make an explanation of the God Hand, and what r they and how they play a part in the destruction of the Empire
@@alannolan5126 what other videos could they make? We've mentioned a video explaining the God Hand & the Battle for Doldrey; how about a video explaining Guts' battle against the 100 Tudor soldiers and Griffith's rescue/the Band of the Falcons battle against Wyald.
This is yet another awesome video from the team! I absolutely loved it! A personal request, is it possible that you could make a video about the First and Second War from the Warcraft series? I'd love to see your narrations on these battles!
