@@WizardsandWarriors good video. however the eotheod moved up the andiun some time before eorl took over as lord. they made their homes in the area between mount gundabad, the grey mountains & mirkwood. it's this that made the prospects of messengers getting to the eotheod slim, as they needed to ride past Dol Guldur, which is controlled by sauron. eorl & his host was helped by Galadriel in order to get past Dol Guldur with his army, she conjured a mist that hid them & increased their speed. the fact that sauron had no knowledge of this army, made their charge into the enemy host all that more effective.
I think the early 2000's were at the point of the perfect mix between CGI and actors. CGI was good enough to look good and realistic, but expensive enough to not be overused. Before the Lord of the Rings, most battles felt too small or chaotic. After lord of the rings, battles became to computer generated and didn't feel natural anymore. The battle of the five armies didn't have the weight the battles in LOTR had. I wonder if we will ever see a masterpiece as Lord of the Rings again. The only real flaw I see in the Lord of the Rings movies was Frodo. Who in the books felt much braver than in the movies. You could identify the influence of the ring and his own character more in the books. Frodo also felt too helpless in the movies.
@@donder91 I mean some changes had to be done. For the betterment of character development and so on. Because if we have the characters as exact. Also I think it was 6 or 12 man stunt team to create the entire armies. Jackson tried his best and I doubted anyone could've done better
The Kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor reminds me of the Western and Eastern halfs of the Roman Empire because of how the kingdoms were formed after the fall of Numenor and how the Kingdom of Arnor in the west fell (like the Western Roman Empire) while the Kingdom of Gondor in the east continued the Numenorean legacy (like the Eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire).
I would assume that was intentional. Tolkien drew a lot of inspiration from the real world, as he didnt intend his work to be entirely separate from the real world.
One very interesting fact is that when Eorl the Young made his way south, Galadriel put out a mist that covered the army and the sound that the army made so that the ork scouts wouldn't see them.
the Eorlings wanted to turn back as they called Lorien the Dwimerdorne (Witch-forest) but Eorl's horse Felarof was of the Mearas and wouldn't turn. Eorl decided to trust his horse and ride south anyway, and his men followed along with Brandir of Gondor. Later Eomer also accuses Galadriel of being a witch, which angers Gimli and nearly starts a fight with Aragorn and Legolas.
Well today i learned that in the end the witch king did kinda win his wars in the north. Angmar did fall, but hey its only purpose was destroying Arnor so who cares if a few orcs and evil humans die along the way. Great Video, finally this part of the LOTR-Lore is understandable with a live-map and animations ^^
Tiny correction, Isildur planted the white tree in Minas Anor in memory of his brother, he saved that sapling from minas Ithil during its siege by Sauron
I’m a 42 year husband, father, and electrician, I’ve never read a LOTR book. I fell in love with the story from the movies. This is second video and I love this as much as the movies
thats it. I have my childhood books of Tolkien, visualized and narrated by Kings&Generals narrator, one of best I ever heard in all youtube documentaries. My life is complete. I can die happy person now.
Just a minor mistake: the Éothéod weren't established south of Dol Guldur but far in the north in North Anduin near Ered Mithrim and Gundabad between the rivers Greylin and Langwell in TA 1977. They were lead by Frumgar at the time and migrate his people to the north where they established Framsburg as a capital (although they had been established south of Mirkwood after the destruction of Rhovanion). Eorl and his forces had to cross Lorien in order to help Gondor. Ahead of that is a really good job!
This is brilliant. Having only seen the movies I really appreciate the added context around Isildur and his death, makes his choices a lot more relatable. Tolkein was such a legend, his world reads just like history.
This is hands down the best LOTR documentary I've seen! Im a huge LOTR fan and this channel has me learning so many things I didn't know about! Thank you Wizards and Warriors this channel is the best!
In middle school I loved reading the appendixes for Return of the King, but didn't fully grasp the context of how the Numenorians related to the other peoples of Middle Earth. This channel and "Nerd of the Rings" have done an amazing job visualizing Tolkien's history of Gondor, Arnor, and Rohan.
There's a minor imprecision on the map that is shown at 11:18. The land between Bree and the Weather Hills was not controlled by Rhudaur originally, it was disputed territory. Rhudaur's territory consisted of (according to LOTR, Appendix A) the land between the Ettenmoors, the Weather Hills and the Misty Mountains, and the Angle between the Hoarwell and the Loudwater. Bree itself was very close to Cardolan's border (on the Great Road) and could have been part of that kingdom. But great video though. I love Kings and Generals and this new channel is great. I'm looking forward to seeing more content from Tolkien's Legendarium here.
I already loved the historical content, but i found out you guys had this new channel today. I already saw all of the videos up, and i'm eager to see this one while i do some chores! Thank you for all of your teams efford!

After devouring much of the Rome documentaries on the Kings and Generals channel, I wondered how great this style of video would work for Middle-Earth. Turns out my wish was already granted!
Very interesting! A lot of details and perspectives that had not yet been covered by other channels (such as Nerd of the Rings, Men of the West and History of the Ages). So far, W&W focuses less on long quotes and lore, and more on military strategy and diplomatic relations. A great addition!

Absolutely love how you're applying your signature style and analysis to one of the greatest fantasy histories ever written K&G And is that a twin tailed comet I see before me? ;-)
Always felt the woodmen were covert badasses! Like frontiersman or the fur trappers of "The Revenant" living on the edge of society in wooden homesteads fighting off the burgeoning darkness there with nothing but axes. Orcs were the least of their worries with the spiders of Ungoliant's brood, and all the other dark things in that place.
The woodmen didn't even have territory until Thranduil and Celeborn granted the gap between Mirkwood and the larger forest to them- ironically the one spot without forest.
Also a small correction in the pronunciation, whenever the pair of letter ‘ai’ appears in Tolkien’s names, it is always pronounced like the ‘I’ in “wine”. So Dunedain is pronounced like Dunedine.
This is the best Wizards and Warriors video so far. Good job! =) I would like to see some Warhammer40k stuff here too. That's pretty complex lore though with some fanatic followers. Unification Wars, Horus Heresy, Vraxx, and the fall of Cadia would be some great topics. ^^
Might not compare to Tolkien's lore in a video like this. For example "The Witcher video" which just has many more visible holes in how the history and battles are set up especially when dissected into a video mostly about battle tactics, it's scary how realistic Tolkien is in his writing even about rediculous things compared to reality and he was no battle field tactician so I wonder how something like Warhammer 40k would compare.
I'm absolutely in love of what you're doing here, but I only want to give a slight bit of critique right now, because I'm sure many other LotR nerds will bring this up in the future; the pronunciation of certain words are slightly off. For instance, the 'ai' in "Dúnedain" is not pronounced as "eyyy" but more "ah-ee" if that makes sense. There is a pronunciation guide in the Return of the King novel in the appendices if I'm not mistaken
This is so awesome! I loved this, and the Star Wars stuff too! The tactical maps really make the stories come alive in a way that general narration just can't
This is so awesome! I'm speechless!!! So detailed, the names, maps and battles! Real Christmas gift. Thanks a million, looking forward to see more! :D:D:D:D:D Amazing job!
Having read LotR close to 40 times, & The Silmarrilion at least 6, I'm very impressed by what I just watched and intend on watching the rest over the next few days. Thank you for your accuracy.
This is incredible!!! I had no idea LOTR had so much history!!! I was a huge fan of the films in 2003 and I enjoyed the new ones recently. But to think all that I knew was just a tiny piece. I shall listen with interest.
Cool video. Isildur planted the White Tree in Minas Anor in memory of his brother and the greater host of Arnor had already departed long before he set out himself. The Battle map has them on the West Bank and the orcs came out of the Forest of Greenwood the Great on the Eastern side of the Anduin. The Arnorians were just north of the Gladden fields on the eastern side when attacked. Isildur when he put on the ring was for a moment still visible because of the Elendimir that he wore on his brow. He ran for some time before reaching the river and discarded his armour. He was swept downstream (not upstream like in the video) by the current and became entangle in the marshes around the mouths of the Gladden where he lost the ring. Hidden Orcs watching for stragglers saw him as a dark shadow full of menace and shot arrows wildly at him before fleeing. Isildur was pierced by at least one of them and died his body was left in the marshes undiscovered except maybe by Saruman's servants in around 3000 TA. (Unfinished Tales) as behind a locked secret vault was the Elendimir that Isildur had worn and a gold chain that probably chained the ring around his neck when he was not wearing it.
A really under rated battle with a lot of detail is the "Seige of Darkness" (or the battle of mithril hall in universe) from the legend of Drizzt 9th book
LOTR is my favourite story so naturally I'm loving these videos. Please keep it up. I'm also curious to see what you're able to do with other stories, like the Witcher vid you have, but I hope there's many more LOTR vids coming. Cheers, Wiz and warriors!
Great Job guys. I've read the source material so I know how arduous the research for this could have been. The simirillion and lost tales aren't easy to digest at parts.
Good video but the Unfinished Tales states Isildur advanced up the Eastern side of the Anduin and Isildur swam across the Anduin, being killed when he reached the Western Bank. So the battle took place on the opposite side of the Anduin.
Loving the videos so far; I'm super excited for battles from the Elder Scrolls universe to come out! Some you might want to take a look at are the failed invasion of Akavir and the Battle of the Red Ring.
I recently watched your looong cover of the fall of Morgoth, which was epic by the way and I recognized a significant improvement in arms and armor from the first age till the present video. It can be seen in your art. Where I can buy the avatars for elves and Arnorian kings? They are epic. If Turin fought in chain-male the kings of Gondor and Arnor fought in full plate armor.
@12:46 So the Hobbits were settled into what would become the Shire during the Third Age. I wonder how Amazon is going to show what the Hobbits are up to during the Second Age in their show. Maybe some videos on the various forces for these Wizards and Warriors can be made? There’s the men of Gondor, Arnor and Ithilien (which has its own king?) and the Eorlings fighting with the Elves of Lindon and Riverdell that can be showcased, even with the Hobbit archers mentioned. Then you got Angmar’s hordes of Orcs and other creatures fighting with Easterlings, which include Wainriders and the Balchoth. It would be cool to see them described in detail.
It's also hinted in Unfinished Tales that saruman could have located Isildur's body in his exportation for the Ring, and disposed of it in his furnaces,as in Orthanc after Sauron's defeat they located a treasure-trove of items, with the help of Gimli the Dwarf, one of which could only have come from Isildur.
The charge of the calvary in the 3rd movie would be awesome y'all should do a whole video of how all the riders came together and the march and came to the decision to make that epic charge
I saw that Dragon’s fang and Aes Sedai emblem during the add! You thought you were being sneaky didn’t you? But I saw through you! Amazing channel tho. Now you guys are scratching my fantasy itch and my history one!
The film series based on this series is one of the very best. Peter jackson created the extact things as in the book series..this is one of my channels. Thnk you for creating these videos and we alwys appreciate your hard work and dedication. A huge fan of you from Sri Lanka.
Absolutely great videos! This channel was such a good idea! Could you consinder using footage from Total War again? There are many good LOTR mods and it would make your videos even better!!!
Hello Wizards and Warriors! Great video! Sorry I am late for the party. was busy these past weeks. You made one tiny mistake. Isildur planted the White Tree in Minas Anor. But that tiny mistake did not take away how great a video it was! I have to admit the tale of Arnor is sad to me. It is a history of what it could have been if multiple things happened. Nonetheless, the Battle of Fornost looks awesome! Think of it, it is the last Hurrah, the last charge of the Last Alliance of the Elves and the descendants of Numenor!

Warhammer fantasy pls. I saw your comments on the videos about it. So pls Wizards and warriors
I would rather not see Warhammer stuff here, not because I don't like it, but due to the current policies of GW. Might cause problems for the channel.
@@ryanchan1170 That is actually true.
Wizards & Warriors. Keep up the Great work it doesn’t Go Unnoticed!
I'd love to see something similar on the wars of Beleriand and the war of Elves against Morgoth.
Absolutely GREAT!!! When you hit a vein of gold, you keep mining it until it is gone!!!
Wonderful video! The history of Middle Earth is pretty intricate so I appreciate these well done examinations of the subject.
I believe an episode about Anbennar should be awesome! Loving the new channel btw! :)
This is so awesome! I loved this, and the Star Wars stuff too! The tactical maps really make the stories come alive in a way that general narration just can't
Love the foreshadowing with the Twin Tailed comet at the end! Can't wait for the next video! Excited to see what comes next!
This is so awesome! I'm speechless!!! So detailed, the names, maps and battles! Real Christmas gift. Thanks a million, looking forward to see more! :D:D:D:D:D Amazing job!
Really big fan of this new channel. Love kings and generals, but this speaks right to my soul.
There are no words to describe how happy I am that this channel exists!
Settle in folks, its gonna be a good one!!!!!!!
Thanks :-)
Poor Arnor, so close to be restored. Lovely work guys ;)
Excellent videos- so enjoyable. The narration is excellent and animation bring to life the stories
It brings me joy to see nerds as big as myself in this world (and they made amazing videos as well for everyone else so it's even better).
A really under rated battle with a lot of detail is the "Seige of Darkness" (or the battle of mithril hall in universe) from the legend of Drizzt 9th book
It is so awesome seeing The Silmarillion brought to life on UA-cam. Keep up the great work!
LOTR is my favourite story so naturally I'm loving these videos. Please keep it up. I'm also curious to see what you're able to do with other stories, like the Witcher vid you have, but I hope there's many more LOTR vids coming. Cheers, Wiz and warriors!
Great video. A video about The Horus Heresy would be awesome. Warhammer 400000 has the largest SCI-fiction battles by far.
I love it!
Will you cover The inheritance cycle as well? Particularly the Rider war, everything extra would be extraordinary amazing!
Great Job guys. I've read the source material so I know how arduous the research for this could have been. The simirillion and lost tales aren't easy to digest at parts.
Very good video, first time I fully understand third age events and wars before "The Hobbit" starts...
Thanks a lot for this !
The fighting among the three kingdoms that rose from a splintered Arnor would make a great GoT-type series.
You guys should make one about Numenor and stuff
BfME II nostalgia kicked in with this one. Good work
Another amazing video. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!!
Good video but the Unfinished Tales states Isildur advanced up the Eastern side of the Anduin and Isildur swam across the Anduin, being killed when he reached the Western Bank. So the battle took place on the opposite side of the Anduin.
For anyone curious. Music at around the 10:00 minute mark is "Monuments" by Bonnie Grace.
19:42??
Dang, this is a good documentary. Will be looking forward for the other videos in the series!
If you cover the rise of the Malazan Empire and the war against the Chaos God then this would officially be the greatest UA-cam channel ever
Ithilien never had an individual king.
@@randomelite4562 Thanks I was wondering about that.
Love it! Though I must say that the map are a bit inaccurate in certain places
The splitting of Arnor in three separate kingdoms reminds me of the splitting of the Carolingian Empire by the sons of Charlemagne
New game: drink every time Wizard and Warriors says “however”.
So glad you made this channel, amazing content!
You are probably drunk :-)
@@WizardsandWarriors my man!
I LOVE this new channel! I've always wished for this to exist, and now it does
The charge of the calvary in the 3rd movie would be awesome y'all should do a whole video of how all the riders came together and the march and came to the decision to make that epic charge
Cavalry, not calvary. Different meaning
The narrator's voice is such that I automatically associate everything on this channel with historical accuracy.
LOTR is my favorite story and kings and generals is one of my favorite youtubr channels, put them together and I'm in love.
What a video, precious. We must have more. Yes, precious, more.
nice just finished Battle for middle earth 2 Angmar campaign and this dropped
Hello Wizards and Warriors! Great video! Sorry I am late for the party. was busy these past weeks.
You made one tiny mistake. Isildur planted the White Tree in Minas Anor. But that tiny mistake did not take away how great a video it was!
I have to admit the tale of Arnor is sad to me. It is a history of what it could have been if multiple things happened. Nonetheless, the Battle of Fornost looks awesome! Think of it, it is the last Hurrah, the last charge of the Last Alliance of the Elves and the descendants of Numenor!
Upcoming Lord of the rings and elder scrolls videos got me so hyped
Been loving the fantasy battle's series so far thanks for giving me more content when I wait for kings and generals to upload again lol.
