Big Boss. The legendary mercenary, master of CQC and almost every weapon in existence, the guy who defeated numerous Metal Gears and prevailed over militaries from virtually all corners of the world... burnt to a crisp with a spray can and lighter. Talk about anticlimactic death.

Elias Rainer Well, considering this was made about 25 years ago, I don't think Big Boss had done all that in the minds of the developers.There was propably a different backstory and Big Boss was just a great soldier, not the legend he became with the Metal Gear Solid saga.
Jon Don well Technically 4. Shagohod, Peace Walker, Metal Gear ZEKE, and I forgot the one from portable ops. Even though it may or not be canon it still counts as him destroying it.

Lore wise when the bosses die and explode, Big Boss probably wanted them to die like the cobra unit. Only way to explain it. Leave no traces of yourself.
3 years late, but the bodies detonating doesn't really line up with the lore considerimg that the bodies of big boss and gray fox were recovered

I would love to see an actual 3D remake of this game, even though it's unlikely given the fallout between Kojima and Konami. Still, one can always hope. Excellent job as always, AJ! Nothing but love for you, man.
One of the best soundtracks in all of gaming, it goes perfectly with the gameplay and storytelling.
I'm so glad Phil never had the idea to even try playing this game on his copy of MGS3, since it would have been attrocious. He'd whine endlessly about the card-key swapping, relying heavily on stream chat to be reminded of what to do and get past stuff besides the admittedly cryptic tap-code stuff, and shit all over the deaths of Gustava and Gray Fox which both come with pretty great 8-bit tragic tunes.
Great run, AJ, certainly couldn't have done this myself without some good amount of practice, if I had a copy of MGS3 for the PS2 that had this game in official English release.

This did more to show the ugly reality of war then a lot of metal gear games to be honest. Big boss wasn't a bad guy, he was just giving people what they wanted and needed.
When I first saw Metal Gear Solid, I swore I saw 'METAL GEAR' somewhere before, a game I tried on the NES, but it frustrated me as a kid.
I thought this game was going to start off in a jungle, like that game did.
I just realized the first Metal Gear I tasted was Snake's Revenge. Oh, salty Christ, no.
lol i have the NES versions of metal gear and yeah they are quite a bit different than the MSX ones. i always wanted to get an MSX but have never come across one.
I hope Kojima decides he wants to remake MG1 and MG2 with Fox Engine.

Absolutely nuts to think that around the time we were all gushing over Super Mario World THIS was a thing. And none of us could get our hands on it. Also liked for the hilarious Green Beret jig.

@@MusicForTheBroken If they remade them, they would be able to simply change the set pieces so they aren't like MGS1's. Remove the stair section with the enemies chasing you and replace it with something else. Give it a different context. Already MGS2 borrowed a lot from MGS1 so the meta element of the gameplay being the same shouldn't be an issue.

Excellent run with minimal commentary. I guess you could talk about what you're anticipating more often (ex: "I'm waiting for this guy to move"), but it's still the best mg2 run I've seen. Looking forward to see the rest of your mgs big boss runs.
After testing the requirements for the big boss rank for this game, I discovered that the reported time was off. So for anyone wondering. the requirements actually are:
Difficulty - Original
Play Time - Less than 1:45:00
Saves - Unlimited
Continue - 0
Alert Mode - 6 or less
Humans Killed - 5 or less
Ration used - 0
Special Item - Not used

Bang Arang For some odd reason, the results screen always says Easy at the top, regardless if you're playing it on easy or original. Probably a glitch or an oversight but yeah, check 'difficulty' under the mission record and you'll see he did play on original

Doing the canon run through all the games finally, blows my mind how much this is just MGS 8 bit. I'd totally buy like an indie 16 bit game of this
I think it does stop the timer when paused but I'm not certain of that.
And yeah lol it totally is. I love this game

I think it's hilarious how the enemies kinda just shake their heads and think "what just happened?" when they get punched lol. This game looks super fun though.

Honestly one of my favourite metal gear games.It holds up amazingly well for the antique hardware it was made on.
