    I've pulled my transmission several times and am about to do it again for a rebuild. It always takes longer. I don't have a lift so I am stuck doing it on the ground which adds a lot of getting up and down off the ground. The standing up and laying down is the worst part of having to do it. I like the order you did the removal, so I will likely incorporate that into how I do it this weekend.

    • @mechanicgray
      @mechanicgray  2 місяці тому

      I agree. Doing this on the ground is twice as hard. Good luck. 👍

    I rotate the engine in the direction it runs to prevent a water pump fails. You made it look easy and quick, i was watching to see what you did with big harness as it came down. I guess it stays with the fuel lines?

    Cheverlot has swapped my trans twice. 2nd time it was under warranty. The first time it was 3 days after an oil change which had me puzzled. It was working fine until that oil change. Now… 3 weeks after that transmission swap. 3 bolts have broken and my engine makes a weird noise. 3500 dollars. I need a bicycle.

    • @mechanicgray
      @mechanicgray  3 місяці тому

      Damn that sucks. Don't think the oil change had to do with it. Sometimes stuff just happens at wired times.

    First, thank you. This is extremely helpful. Second, where do you find those slide in adapters for the transmission jack head that create those vertical standoffs for the oil pan bolt rail flange? I can't find them anywhere!

    16:55 great uncut video of the trans, thank you. Question do you need to learn/read the old trans and write to the new one on the 6L 80?

    • @mechanicgray
      @mechanicgray  2 місяці тому

      Yes. If you change the transmission it needs to be programmed.

      You can put a strap on it and over the torsion bar support and slowly let down by strap.

    Does the truck have to be left in neutral to spin the motor and remove convertor bolts?

    • @mechanicgray
      @mechanicgray  5 місяців тому

      No. I do put it in neutral though to be able to turn the drive shaft so its easier to take the bolts out.

    When you put a brand new transmission in a 2015 Silverado 1500, does the new transmission have to be programmed to the vehicle? I heard someone say it does, but idk for sure. Reason for asking, my trans is going out and I wanna know ahead of time. Thanks in advance!

    • @mechanicgray
      @mechanicgray  4 місяці тому +2

      Yes. The TCM is inside the Transmission and will need to be programmed to the truck. If you are doing the job yourself make sure you also flush the transmission cooler. The most common problem with these is the torque converter fails. It then puts a bunch of metal in the cooler.

    Is it possible to replace the plug in on the transmission?

    • @mechanicgray

      Yes. It's part of the valve body harness that is located in the pan.
