He was made for the camera uses the correct terminology, tells the sockets needed, tells u in order what needs to be done first, and has a good attitude when he runs into a hick-up while working...he didn't have bleep out anything wasn't visibly frustrated 😂. Great video man 👌

With the correct size hose you can use a vacuum brake bleeder to remove most of the transmission pans fluid, so it doesn’t make a big mess. slip the hose down the transmission fill tube. It won’t get all the fluid, but almost a 4 quarts or more.

Pro tip with the front driveshaft: Disconnect it from the front axle then leave it hanging until after the trans cross-member and exhaust are off. Then it's super-easy to get out. Also, remove the crossmember before undoing the exhaust.

If you take the torque converter out of the transmission, it's amazing how light the transmission gets!!!! If this is something you expect to be doing even every couple years, I recommend buying a transmission jack. They are worth the price but there is a bit of a learning curve, especially if the place you are working is not completely flat. I recently bought one and I'm kicking myself for not getting one years and years ago.

I did it the same way but their was two of us lol and I didn’t think about turning crank. That’s a lot better then using a flat tip screwdriver on the flex plate. Now I’m about to do it again in my 06 avalanche z71 but now I got a HarborFreight transmission jack. Hopefully it’ll make it even easier.

I'm in the process of doing this in my driveway - just wanted to add that you can access the exhaust flange nut on the drivers side SO much easier if you remove the wheel well dust cover and go at it from the side. My first mission with my 08 was to replace stuck lifters before tackling the trans, and I was able to access the exhaust nut real easy (and the entire passenger side of the engine) by removing the tire and well jacket. This way you don't have to fight an O2 sensor.

  • @onemoremisfit

On those fill & drain plugs for the transfer case, GM recommends single use, do not reuse, because of the special alloy. I also had a transmission guy tell me do not reuse them. They are available as a replacement part from GM, I know because I bought some. So if you want to follow GM recommendations, pick up a pair of new ones. Also the fluid in the transfer case is not transmission fluid, it is special fluid that is specific to that application, also available from GM. Might as well drain and refill the transfer case with fresh fluid if you are going to replace or rebuild the transmission.

Hercules my a** yu have the strength of Zeus, Poseidon and all of the other Gods too 🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯 Great job at doing this job, I know for a fact how difficult it can be because I’m a mechanic myself but I don’t post anything but my wife is always telling me to do that because I’m good at my job and no one can see all the work that we as mechanic’s go thru to get the job done and get it done properly, safely, and as swiftly as possible!!!! But all in all this video is on point. I’m always lookin around for ways to get the job done quicker and correctly & I ran across your video and seen ways to shorten my time removing and installing my next 4L60E Transmission whenever I have that particular job that comes my way!!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💯💯💯🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

I don’t think he wasn’t pointing/aiming where shouldn’t of been or didn’t have good angles like he was saying in the beginning!!! Hats off to him to cause w/o him it would’ve been tuff recording and working by yourself cause then you’ll have more editing to do than y’all already had. I bet it only took 2-2 1/2 hours if that for you to pull that Tranny and Transfer Case

@@markjohnson4196 @money Mig MM did you ever figure out what the problem was exactly with your trucks stuck in 1st gear? I was pulling away from a stop sign in my 04 GMC Sierra 4x4 and the trans just dropped like it was shifted into neutral and now I can't get any gears including reverse. When I place into park ten try to put it into drive or any gear the engine rpm goes up like it's anticipating going into a gear but when I press gas to try to move it just revs as if it has no gears inside transmission. Since it's 4x4 and since I just had the transmission rebuilt a month ago I'm starting to think maybe my transfer case is stuck in neutral. If y'all have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!

@@danuttz749 Return your truck to the shop that replaced your transmission for a warranty replacement. While you could have a transfer case problem, it is exceedingly unlikely that was your problem. How hard were you "pulling away" from the stop sign? Was the stop sign in front of a 1/4 mile of blacktop? LOL.
Diagnostics if you've not repaired it yet. Pull the inspection cover off the bottom of the trans bellhousing with the engine running and see if the TC is spinning. If not, then the TC is disconnected from the flexplate and the shop needs to replace the TC bolts. If the TC is spinning, then it could be out of fluid, or the pump could have failed. If you were hammering on it, you could've broken the sunshell. If any of these parts were worn, then they should've been replaced during the rebuild. Especially the sunshell, which is a known weak point in the 4L60E.

I have that same pan on my 99 Silverado. Just curious, why didn't you use the drain plug before removing the pan? Can the pan drain plug be problematic?

Did any special swivels or anything make this easier to get the exhaust bolts out

Why didnt you just take the drain plug out of the trans instead of taking the pan down??

If I'm getting a transmission from the junk yard do i need to flush it? found one with 126K.. I'm pretty sure my other one is toast. someone also told me you should flush out the old lines.

Make sure the vehicle is blocked and secured, shift it out of park to make sure there is no load on the u joints, remove both u joint caps and pry against the pinion nut and u joint. Sorry for delay.
