Joe the key works both sides we have the same locks there's a small dimple on the key raised one side dipped the other the key goes in raised one side of the lock and dipped side up in the other side 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great progress on the renovation. For the doors, as you've got a drop bolt on one side, you could use a gate mate lock for the door to enter through the stern.
Lovely video and great set of doors there. You could use a mortise lock, then you would have keyhole access from either side and it would be very secure.
Looking Gorgeous! Heidi from The Narrowboat Pirate just had an internal deadbolt installed on her stern doors a few episodes back. You can check with her about locks! You need to use a piece of scrap wood on top of the door sill when hammering it in place, then you won't dent the still itself!
We have a yale type lock on our bow doors. Didn't work properly when we got it. Took a bit of fiddling by a joiner to get it going for us including notching and cutting things away. Works perfectly now Good luck Stern deck.looks amazing
The Enfield garage door locks definitely work from both sides. Try turning the key until it will fit in the lock. It fits a specific way. Boat’s looking great!
As a person from central Fl I can attest that Ac works much better with all doors, hatches and windows closed and the hole around the exhaust hose sealed. Love watching you guys and always protect the neck.
😍 beautiful doors. Not to theow a dampner on things, but, a deadlock may be better as leaded glass is easy to break through. Years ago we had a mortice type lock that you could lock on the outside as normal and it had a key hole on the inside too. Anyways, take care both, great video as always 😊🌹
Well, you can be proud of youreself, that was a lot more work than you showed. Very well done, in that heat, twice de labour. Love the doors, they look realy nice. Just a tip, i found out to late also, close off the window where you let de heat out of the airco. You blow heat right in like that. But you probeply already know< well done you two!!! Step by step, you"ll get there.
Your doors and back deck look beautiful. For the lock have you seen the 'jimmy deadbolt', secure the main body to the securing door and attach the other part to the sliding hatch. Works a treat.
A few boaters on youtube have just bought those locks I think in the last month. Narrow boat Grandad showed that you can lock from both sides if you insert the key in the right way (turn 90 or 180 or 270 from the way you have done). Maybe its not the same lock but might be worth checking. Paint looks great
What a difference a coat of paint makes it look fantastic well done you two you both worked so hard to make you home look like a home ,just love the new doors the coloured glass looks perfect well done again,,Joe yo, dad is a clever guy can see where you get it from ,Danny you really work very hard as a nurse and a wife and a boat lady good on you ,till next time take care keep safe,John 🇬🇧🌹🌹🫂🫂👀☝️🚣🚣🤩🙏🙏😘🫣😆🤣😃
Amazing what a few days hard work can do to the look of a boat 👍 If you can try and force some grease or even oil down the top of the new stop cable to try and seal it from water 😊
Bolts on the inside for when you are inside, e.g. at bed time. When locking from outside latch as many of the bolts as you can reach with the hatch slid open. Close the hatch and padlock it to the steel roof.
I remember those first videos on the metal doors and was thinking I don't think anyone would break in your narrowboat, but you stated they'd (metal doors) let everything you wanted to keep out in but at least the doorway would be covered to keep away the riffraff... now the doors keep everything from outside outside, but the riffraff probabaly passin your boat (wishing to come in) asking about service hours - passing your boat with 3 holy mary's" and "church," because the crib looks "blessed and highly favored" with all that stained glass and oak finish... Preacher can't even pass without preaching (... o lawd ...) and laying a blessing upon ur boat and the king wants a reluanch with the wine and full celibration ...
My heart has been in my mouth with this vlog…….you’re such a talented young man, actually you’re a great team. Loving your doors and I remember when you go them commissioned!
That’s very kind! Not sure when our next trip to the states will be but will bear that in mind - would love to try a Carolina Reaper from the source! 😂
We have used a Lince 7930 alarm deadlock which detects any motion and is a barrel key with a long throw bolt. Its super strong and the motion detection sets off a loud alarm.
Good result you've gotten there., made for a fun VLOG. It seems to me that you could get a bit of brass tubing and epoxy it into the door where the barrel key needs to go through and access the lock from the outside through the door. Might need further moisture sealing though.
Hi, great job, however I think you should not have painted the hingies on the wood side of the door and left them bear metal . The white spoils the Optik from the doors. All the best Steve from Germany
Mortice lock for the doors ?.. my summer house has a long throw one… rotate the key twice and it throws the bolt 2 depths into the receiving door….. key operated internally and externally ..
Beautifully made doors… I hope they don’t ( like mine do) swell and contract in the heat/cold… as they may stick a bit…personally I wouldn’t have spoilt them by using massive garage bolts… one inside dead bolt on the close door and then weld/tack a U on the sliding hatch followed by a stainless hasp on the close door finished with a quality Brass or Stainless padlock..just a thought…
The garage locks are designed to be locked from the outside only … so fitted on the inside and a hole through the door to use the key on the outside. To lock the door when you are inside, just add the manual bolts you have now. It is not a good idea to lock the doors with a key when on the boat because that is your fire escape so you don’t want to mess about with keys.
There is a reason that metal doors are fitted, they may not look nice but there job is to keep criminals out. The wooden doors look lovely but with the glass panels it will make a criminals job easier to get in especially as you were looking to fit a basic Yale type lock.
Love watching your vlogs. The boat is looking lovely! I noticed your duck chimney cowl? Not sure that's the correct terminology. Where did you find it? Our boat is The Indian Runner, which is a duck. We're moored on the Medway and I'd love to get one. If you're ever brave enough to do the tidal Thames and venture down to the Medway we'd give you a warm welcome! If not we may catch up when we venture out on our travels again next year.
Company called ‘smokie Joe’s’ - just had a replacement come as ours succumbed to a low branch! Oh the Medway looks amazing, would definitely need some Dutch courage that looks like it can be a handful sometimes! Will make sure to reach out if we do!
@@ItsOhJoe thank you so much I'll take a look Yes Teddington into Lime house is a challenge. We had to brace, brace, and lost our flower pot off the bow deck. But the locky wasn't phased and told us that most people get it more wing than we did. But cruising under tower bridge and passed the houses of parliament was incredible! Do it! Xx
you need to keep all the doors shut for the air conditioner to work, to cool the air, otherwise you are trying to cool the great outdoors, and you keep it on constantly at a low level, not on high fan to cool it down quickly..it is not like a heater...it is a long time thing to keep it at a constant temperature of say 18 degrees.
The specialist that made it said once fitted they’d withstand quite a knock so fingers crossed - if someone wanted easy access they’d just smash a side window anyway to be honest.
Just an observation guys you have glazing beads on the outside of your doors which are easy access for un-invited guests. If possible could you swap your door around so beadings on the inside .?
The last window I fitted I was told the beads had to go on the outside so that water wouldn’t get in (I actually fitted them on the inside) - so this time I fitted them outside & get told the other way 😂😂 to be fair, if someone wants to get in they’ll smash a side window, if they’re courteous enough to remove out windows rather than smashing them they’re probably welcome aboard anyway!

Agree. I've used these locks on my steel doors for 14 years +. Recently replaced them with newer versions. They are very solid and work well.
Thanks for this yes tried rotating the key & they’re working great!!
Lovely oak doors. Beautiful stained glass. 😊
Thank you!
Lovely job on the rear deck, you need to use a mortice lock, keep a bolt latch on one door then you can lock them from both sides
Cheers, I don’t think the framers deep enough if that makes sense (for a mortice)
Doors and deck look lovely. Hard work paid off. Well done guys. Joe PUT SUNBLOCK ON (factor 50). Young people get Melanoma too.

Amazon has a gate lock that is very strong key access both sides that operates a square bolt. Wonder if it could be modified for your doors???
Mad idea here the panel for your engine why not get a piece of fake grass add that bit of colour too still be able to access the panel too 🥰
Yeah that would be lovely actually!
Hi Misfit danny Dave of narrowboat MisFit the locks will work both ways just rotate the key 90 i am fitting 4 on the black swan this week
I’ll try that cheers!
Nice one made me smile again

Bolts on the inside for when you are inside, e.g. at bed time.
When locking from outside latch as many of the bolts as you can reach with the hatch slid open. Close the hatch and padlock it to the steel roof.
The reason people prefer garage locks over padlocks is that padlocks on the outside advertise the fact that you are away from the boat.
@@PinkLittleElephant good point. I bet Joe can come up with a cunning plan 🙂

Look at ''Gatemate'' inside outside keys or out side key inside thumb turn, they do a long throw version.
Idea for your door lock why not use car door central locking selonoids attached to slide bolts
That would be wicked!
Door locks....try Toolstation part no 52722.
Thanks that’s what we used in the end!

We have used a Lince 7930 alarm deadlock which detects any motion and is a barrel key with a long throw bolt. Its super strong and the motion detection sets off a loud alarm.
Expensive but it's your home and well worth the investment.
You want someform of centrally operable shootbolt system. Or just bolt one doorwith a lock on the other
Managed to use a long throw gatemate as a few suggested, seems to work well!
Just seen your door lock problem. Have you had a look in the tool station catalogue item 52722 or 71612 look useful
