Chill , Fellow boaters understand water fill situation
Needed that reminder, thank you ❤️
Port (the drink) is red, and 4 letters like left... that's how I remember :-)
Good way to remember it!
I truly enjoyed your journey. I can't watch as often as I'd like but what I do see enchants me so much. I enjoyed the museum and the ducks. I'm living this journey through you guys. It gives me great joy and I appreciate you both very much!
You are the real deal. A precious treasure, we need now more than ever .: *❤*:.
Thank you for much for following along our journey when you can 😊
No RED PORT LEFT!
Yeah I can remember port & left easily enough, just nothing seems to make sense for right & starboard other than not remembering it’s port left first!
Port has the same number of letters as Left.👍
Yeah that's a nice and easy one!
How i was taught to remember it port and starboard Is the saying no port wine left in bottle .its very old saying .
Yeah I can remember port & left easily enough, just nothing seems to make sense for right & starboard other than not remembering it’s port left first!
Yes you can take wood if on floor river trust leave wood on tow path as for water if you have the book on does and don't on narrowboating the rule on filling your boat with water is if there is people waiting for water to you only fill up for 30 min but long as you like if no one waiting hope that helps
Thank you!
"No Port LEFT in the Bottle". Take care. Great Video Thank you.
Good way to remember it for sure, thank you 😊
Every time I watch your videos and others It makes me want to jump in headfirst to get my own but I am still doing my homework but I can see the cost is completely worth even if my first year will be stationed at one location most of the time until the 2nd year where I have adapted myself with work since I won't be able to continuously move and work BUT I know where my quiet times are and plan for a month or two for moving around and then return for work. Maybe if I get a big workflow I can hire staff and do the office work on the boat. Who knows what the future holds but I know I am going to live on a boat or I will regret not doing it for the rest of my life.
There is always some 'red port left' in the bottle. Love they way you feed off each other. Keep em coming.
Thank you! Yeah I can remember port & left easily enough, just nothing seems to make sense for right & starboard other than not remembering it’s port left first!
Stars are bright. rhymes with right.@@DanniandJoe
I remember port & starboard with the saying “there’s no port left”! Love your vlogs by the way!!
Thank you so much! Definitely seems a popular phase!
This week was quite domestic. Just good to see you two boating and living on the cut.
Thank you, nice to just be cruising and enjoying the local sites!
Didn't you say in an earlier video that you would post your pickle recipe? Your face looks like pure bliss when you're eating one. I haven't found the recipe, but I'd love to make some of my own! 😋 Love the videos of your adventures. Was tickled pink that your 'destination wedding' was here in the states (although 1500+ miles away from us).
Half equal parts water and distilled white vinegar heated up to melt the honey and dissolve the sugar with chilli flakes, mustards seeds and coriander seeds (all to your own preference). I added a good amount of honey and chilli flakes. Trick is to cool the water/vinegar before pouring it on top of your cucumbers to keep them crunchy! Best ate after a couple of days. Good luck!
Suggestion put a water proof cover over your box of firewood so the plastic box doesn't fill up. That's assuming it doesn't have a lattice bottom. Cheers!
It does have a lattice on the bottom but we’ve managed to store under the front cover now so should work out!
Thanks guys ! Another great upload . Have you watched The boat that Guy built ?
Yes loved that series!
Only red port left is how I remember it 😊
Good one!
This one was fun to watch! you were sprinting and smiling. Makes this old man smile as well!
😂 thank you!
Good vid. I thought composting toilet users disposed of the wee in hedges or secluded wooded areas
Some definitely do, we always try and trip it down an Elsan. We’ve got two bottles so usually keep on spare & can go a few days without worrying too much!
Remember port drink is red,so ,you say, NO PORT LEFT. That's how I remember left.😊
Yeah I can remember port & left easily enough, just nothing seems to make sense for right & starboard other than not remembering it’s port left first!
@@DanniandJoestarboard has 2 rs, port only has 1. 2 rs= right.
Hi Danni, Joe, Nice Cruise. Well done in the wind. It was very interesting to see how fast your boat was going when the various bodies of water joined each other. Loved the ducks. have a great week. Thank you for another enjoyable Vlog. Spoolbox
Thank you! Yes the speedy bits were fun actually 😂
Joe: PORT is a fortified RED wine that when you drink it up, there is no PORT LEFT! Easy!
Good way to remember it!
Very nice work on the locks and remember it takes as long as it takes to used the water points 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧💥
Yeah that’s true!
All the short words together Port, Red, Left. Same with the longer ones Green, Right, Starboard.
That’s good!
Hello joe and Danny I think your channel is the best narrowboat channel joe you are very clever and you are both a really nice couple, if you continuous cruise in London just always have your wits about you I cc there for 5 years but now live on my boat a long way from the place anyway I’m sure you guys will settle in I hope we bump into each other sometime , love your down to earth personalities good luck guys
Thanks Peter that’s lovely to hear!
Yeah we’ll either love or hate London, next after this we’ll be heading up the Grand Union towards Birmingham!
When you get the hatchet blade stuck into the wood , turn the hatchet upside down ( with wood still attached ) and swing the heel of the hatchet down onto your block , then the wood will split.......I cut a lot of wood for heating at my cottage in Romania
Awesome cheers!
Easy way to remember, port from starboard. port is left side, hence the saying there's no port left in the bottle.
Seems to be a popular way to remember it! We won’t forget now 😊
wow interested muesem, when I lived in the uk from 1989 to 1992, we did a few canal cruises, but the Kenneth and Avon canal wasn't available to go on, so happy it is now, hopfully one day we get back there and my challenge would be to do the Kenneth and Avon cnal. I've done all the ring canals etc, and the four counties.... beautiful....Enjoy guys, can't wait to watch you when you go on the River Thames.
Ahh amazing! Yeah try the K&A, it’s the only canal we’ve ever knowing - it does get a bit of a bad reputation for hire boats and live aboards but we’ve found it lovely!
I like that Joe gets so stressed he needs to be a bit calmer.Danni is the calm one. Nice Video like the fact I have been on some of these canals Take care OK
Cheers!
When are you going to box in your electric cupboard. With winter coming the water could get in . I enjoy your videos.
Potentially a job for November, it’s on the list just been constantly moving at the minute to make it on to the Thames and into London!
Hi you two are an amazing team I love seeing beautiful scenery and your fashion choices ❤❤❤ liz xxx oh and your wood collection and chopping skills.😮😮😮
Thanks for watching Liz!
Two things-l’ve only just noticed your dedicated number plate and the screw in picket for tying the boat to .The second bit of wood looked like A sh which is good firewood .The top block with the castle scene looked very similar to the style of Frank Nurser of Braunston yard.A really enjoyable vlog 👍
Yes ash burns lovely! We had some delivered last year and then carted it to the boat. I’ll look up Frank’s work!
Those keys are just asking to go for a swim, i lost mine after a year, now only have a few keys and large floats!
Hi guys you both look happy boating looks great when watching your videos. You make it look so easy. Great job 😊😊😊😊 X
Aw thank you, it definitely has its moments but this was a lovely cruise!
Grand vlog lots of hard work on locks be careful now tc the oldies 🤗👍🤗👍
Thank you for watching!
I loved this video, I enjoy all yours but this one was nice because it felt like a real "fly on the wall" upload. Thanks for uploading :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi both, absolutely loving your journey, fantastic content always humorous and interesting, a really hope that you are approached by a t.v company to do a series of travells and experiences that you are going through, you're both good on camera. Maybe one day fingers crossed.🤞
Hahaha that would be an incredible opportunity we would not be able to resist! Perhaps one day we any luck!
Easy way to remember port and starboard colours is a little bi of port left in bottle
From andy in devon
Yeah I can remember port & left easily enough, just nothing seems to make sense for right & starboard other than not remembering it’s port left first!
I would love to travel down to London on a boat. I think I'd have to live on a wide beam though. Loved the museum.
Yeah we’d quite fancy a wide beam at some point (if/when we outgrow this one!)
Hi guys another great vlog and Joe watch the boat that great paint work when chopping the wood you tell him Dani stay safe and happy and safe boating cheers Barry from Victoria Australia 🇦🇺
😂😂
Starboard is the Viking word for rudder. It was positioned on the rear right of the boat as most people were right handed, and you wouldn’t dock against the starboard so the left was referred to as port side.
Thank you for that interesting titbit. We use words without even thinking about why we use that word and it's always a joy and surprise to learn the 'why' and origin.
Ahh that’s great! Will remember that
just a little tip get a four pound long handled lump hammer from tool station to hit your axe it will make splitting logs easy
I’ve always read that that’s bad practice & can damage the axe (I’d do it with a cheap axe but this was £130!!) 😂
waste of beer money when a fifteen quid axe splits logs 😜 @@DanniandJoe
Still smiling pops xxx
Love you ❤️
Really enjoyed this vlog. I used to live by the river in Kingston, it's beautiful. Lots of little islands around, a few famous ones like Eel Pie Island. Have fun x
Ahh it’s beautiful around there!
One of them ducks would make a nice Sunday dinner. Just don't let danni know I said that :D
Hahaha Danni loves duck 😂
Loving the cruising vlogs! Your excitement is great!! Can’t wait to meet up 😊
Glad you didn’t get a car try to race onto the bridge 😅
😂😂 thank you! Yes can’t wait to finally catch up with you!
Danni’s pretty stubborn so it would’ve been a proper face off 😂
Great vlog on Sunday eve! Fun and informative! Smashing it! Keep going and see you guys next month! 🍻🍻🍻
Thank you very much!
Nice one guys,,, great to see ya grins 💪👍
😂 thank you!
Great cruise. Good luck at Woolhampton. Did that in a day boat couple years ago. Enlightening lol😂. Best wishes ❤
Thank you! It was definitely interesting there haha
Romany gypsie do have those kind of paintings on their trailers. My family on my mother's side are romany gypsies.
They are so stunning, so much intricate detail 😊
Good to see a great product used from Makita
Had it for a couple of years & finally getting some use out of it again 😂
Loving your vlogs, I really look forward to watching them… ❤
Thank you so much!
Little tip, remember "There's no Port left". port being red. Simples.....😎
There’s a little port left in the bottle is how I was taught.
Wow there’s so many ways to remember this, we can’t forget it now haha
10:35 guys, it looked like you have gaps around your new doors?
Really recommend you get some insulation/draft tape on them as winter will really rock you with open gaps like those round your doors.
Stay safe, really enjoyed watching you pass the marina I'm in.
Thanks for your videos guys 👍
I think the old doors were much worse tbh
Yeah there’s about 10/15mm so enough to fit seals if we want them - to be honest we have to have X amount of ventilation on the boat to pass the BSS - by having gaps around the edge we may not need full on vents cut into the doors themselves (as many boats do) - we also have deliberate gaps in the hatch for the same reason
Love your videos but I see you are still making work for yourselves on double locks by opening both gates. As a single boat you only need to open one still gives plenty of room to get in and out of the lock.
At times we have struggled to get onto the lock landing with the bikes on the back that is why we open both sometimes 😊
Superb vlog as always. Thank you both .
Thank you!
There is no red port left. Easy to remember now.
Good one!
Loved this.❤️
Thank you!
Love your videos x
Thank you 😊
Good thanks
Thank you 😊
Brilliant 👍👍🇬🇧👍👍
Thank you!
Great episode guys!
Thanks for watching!
Aide mémoire for you. There's no red port left.
Thank you!
You're very welcome. Was taught that when I joined the RN many years ago and never forgot it. Hope it helps.Being about booze helped!!!!!
@terrybray2874 definitely! 😂😂
Lovely video 😊thank you
Thank you!
This is my new addiction...hillbilly from America.
Thank you!
👍👍
Thank you!
Port in starboard out ❤
Thank you!
Xx
❤️
Hi Joe… just a little tip to make splitting logs a bit easier, use your mooring pin “Mallet” and hit the back of the axe head whilst it’s placed on a log etc… it saves you swinging the axe over your head and slipping off the wood 👍🏻
I’ve always read that that’s bad practice & can damage the axe (I’d do it with a cheap axe but this was £130!!) 😂
@@DanniandJoe god no I meant a cheap “Hand chopper” from Amazon or Aldi..! Obviously one that can take a blow from a mallet 👍🏻
@@dingnextstop 😂😂 yeah I fancy a fiskars fibreglass one for throwing about!
👍
Cheers!
Excellent video. They keep getting better and better! Loved the canal scenery! Will the wood dry out in time for your winter use?
Glad you enjoyed it! Probably not properly this year (although some of the hardwood did feel very dry so may have been seasoned just enough whilst it was felled)
Mate the bike rack doesn't look like it's going to fall off, what adjustment did you make? Cheers!
It’s still pretty angled to be fair, but hasn’t fallen off yet still 😂😂
There’s no RED. port Left in the bottle
That’s the one!
Port, left and red are all the shortest words…..
Good way to remember it!
Oh the wind looks like it can be wild, does it shake the boat at night, would u just trim the outside of the wood off ? but may as well stock up for winter coming along,
Yeah when it picks up it can rock the boat quite badly! Yeah bit of a winter stock up!
Another great video, been watching you guys for a while,we had a share for the last two years, and just bought a 50 ft cruiser stern 👍so May see you out there
Wow amazing! Where are you based?
@@DanniandJoe Rugby boat yard
Going to do some prep for a week then head to Stadford upon Avon for the winter then who knows👍
What is the book you are using to se where you are going?
Is there any Port { LEFT } in the Bottle
Yeah I can remember port & left easily enough, just nothing seems to make sense for right & starboard other than not remembering it’s port left first!
You are wrong about the wood for heat. It warms you up at least four times!
That’s true!!
Really enjoying your vlogs🙂
Thank you for watching!
I notice that you guestimate "3 hours" per page without counting the locks. If they are against you they can add up to 30 minutes per lock!
The canal companion (older book we use) incorporates the locks in its estimates (obviously it’s not spot on but gives a rough idea)
:)
😊
Best thing about Newbury is leaving Newbury…☮️
We enjoyed it! Sausages we’re great too 😂
WHAT - Yall Lost The Duck On Top Of The Boat. NNNNOOOOOO
Had to order another one!
@@DanniandJoeIf I owned a Narrowboat that came with a duck I would have called it "Fly Away Home." U ever seen that film!!!!
it's not the river Kennett it's the river Avon
It’s definitely the Kennet. We said bye to the Avon long before Semmington (it then loops up past Melksham).
to my knowledge there is no "E" in patrons..........
It’s an app where people can support the channel, called ‘Patreon’
Hit the log with the axe the hit the back of the axe with a lump hammer. You’re welcome
I’ve always read that that’s bad practice & can damage the axe (I’d do it with a cheap axe but this was £130!!) 😂
