That was a clever fix. I watched a few narrow boaters and usually they don't have a clue how to fix mechanical issues so it was refreshing to see some one with a bit of savvy. 🍪☕
Good your back on board. Cruiser stern boats always suffer rain water into the engine bay. We once discovered that rain water runs off the roof falls onto gun-whale and drops into the engine bay. So we had welded a 8mm rod on both sides of engine bay to deflect water into the canal. It worked. Keep safe warm dry and virus free both. Take care.
Having rain water enter the engine bay is not normal and is an indication something is wrong or that the boats engine bay cover was incorrectly designed and so if you are getting rain water then it is something to worry about and investigate, a properly designed engine bay cover will have a C channel round the perimeter of the opening which then links to a pipe system going to the exterior of the hull, the bay cover is then designed to sit on or slot into the C channel so making it impossible for rain water to enter the engine bay as the C channel is at the first point of ingress and instantly directs it of the boat into the canal, so if rain water is getting in then ether the C channel or the pipes that lead to a hole in the hull are clogged allowing the water to back up or whoever built the boat did not design the engine cover properly.
Thanks David! Yeah I think our Ingress is coming from some older holes in the sides of the boat from the previous deck formation that need filling in. Our deck now has C channels as mentioned below, we’ve added foamed tape around the bottom of the boat to seal from weather which seemed to work but maybe I’ll replace it and re-look into it.
Things are back to normal 😂. You went on vacation and came home to a vacation spot. Like you I said many f-cks when you had troubles. As the old song says, “That’s Life”. So happy y’all are home and you got the boat fixed. But living in Mississippi I’m jealous of Dannie’s grocery shopping!!! All we get are homegrown tomatoes and sweet corn! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
So glad you’re talented at fixing things Joe. Well done staying calm and thinking straight when things seemed to be a disaster. Congratulations on getting it fixed - though please get it sorted properly now!! So pleased you’re both back safe and well from your trip. Have a wonderful week. 😊
Love the video. With regard to the engine over heating, this was discussed when fitting new floor last week. We now have 2 side ports so to speak cut into the floor boards where the air flow ducts are, either side. Its vital they are there to allow warm air to flow out of engine area. 👍
Love watching your videos. What a pleasure it is to see you working out the problem you had with the leak and how you were going to mend it. My Dad could mend anything and you sitting there working it all out reminded me so much of him. Lovely to see a young lad like you with such a talent. Absolutely brilliant!
Well Joe to the rescue has always so glad you weren’t actually sinking what lovely fresh food you got Danni hope you enjoyed it tc now both the oldies 👋👍🤗🤗
Sounds nuts but keep a stack of adult nappies instead of blue roll because they absorb an obscene amount and you can just put them somewhere and leave them to retain water!
How did that fit in there.... It just hit me that this is a reality show and they handed you the right piece.... probably not... crazy you had the right piece...
Hi Guys great to see you both again, and yes you can grow date palms. just put 4/5 in a small polythene bag filled with damp compost, and seal the bag, and place the bag somewhere dark, and leave for about 2 months, you can check after 1 month, just take a look to see if its not dried up, but just keep checking, You should have germinated date palms after 2 months. Good luck!
Well I watched from beginning to end & you don't seem to be sinking in any way!! Love your relaxed attitude to standing right next to the uncovered fan belt or whatever it was & your ability to mend things without the right part! 😊
Great video. Once upon a Time in my younger days. I had room underneath both my engines for a 2 inch deep oil pan so when I developed a leak it stayed separated from the bilge. I also had oil pads to soak up the oil when it got ugly. Just a suggestion.😊
My take aways from this week. Charity shops are popular with 50% of you. Swans will still try and break a man's arm. Open the fridge slowly and a proper brass valve works a treat. Good to see you.
Hi guys, absolutely loved this video. Welcome home guys. You deserve a huge rest after your travelling. Please enjoy and have some time to recover. Sending love to you both. Lisa xxx ❤
Always an enjoyable Sunday afternoon treat to have a new Danni & Joe. Really like the boat life bits. Also nice to have a longer vlog. Keep em coming guys
All sorted now I’ve isolated the issue to the accumulator tank, I’ve emptied it and the water pump itself is working perfectly now, when I’ve got more time I’ll look into it further
Apologies to Danni for accosting you in Tesco earlier 😂 it was lovely to meet you in person. We have followed your shenanigans with vans, narrowboat and bicycles. Really look forward to your next journey on the K&A. Vicky, Andy and Eric the doodle x
Aw Vicky it was so lovely to meet you! Thank you so much for the PayPal donation, we will treat ourselves tomorrow when we move the boat into Bristol. If yourself, Andy and Eric are ever near the K&A don’t hesitate to message us ☺️
Another great video. Have you checked the condition of your fresh water tank, if it is a steel tank it’s not unusual for rust to collect in the outlet which can cause a drop in water pressure.
I think a guard over the front of the engine is needed if you're going in when it's running, because I would think wiping your arse with no arms is a bit of a challenge 🤕
thank god your safe... seeing your new on the water. here the way to tell if your sinking. you go to sleep and wake up floating on your mattress, or your sleep having a wet dream. and you open your eyes and your under water. haha
Impressive fix. Maybe the softer brass was harder than the corroded iron. My concern would be that they will heat up and expand at different temperatures which could cause splits or leaks maybe? Maybe try and tighten it after a bit of a run. I only found out today that people need a licence to have a canoe or kayak or paddle board.
Yeah that’s true actually! I’ll keep an eye on it, if it rises above 90/100c we’re in trouble anyway but I’m not sure on how much it’ll expand at those temps! Yeah the CRT charge I think a couple of pounds a day, with our license we’re allowed a ‘tender’ for the boat so we claim this as our tender/the rowing boat but we’ve never been questioned to be honest
@@ItsOhJoe probably quite hard to enforce the license if a CRT person on the towpath has to shout over to a paddle boarder or canoer, 'Oy can I see your license'. I just now found out that you can claim a tender with a boat, very interesting TY.
If that was general purpose lithium grease then it is the wrong lubricant for your stern gland. Should be using white underwater grease such as Ramanol.
Can you let me know what washing powder you use Danni? You’ll need to work miracles on this shorts of Joe’s. Welcome back to blighty. Looking forward to future episodes. Do you have a buy you a coffee page?
Hi Danny and Joe. Great to see you both back on the boat. It was good to see the coffee maker back in action again Joe. Just like old times when you were building the interior. It looked quite scary when you broke the fitting in the cooling system and water was entering the boat. Made me think initially of the episode when you broke the screen whilst away. However, you are quite a resourceful guy so I’m glad you were able to make a fix and get your engine running again. This is the Danni and Joe we all want to see. Hope you both have a great week getting back into the swing of things. Looking forward to next episode.
your skin tank is on its last legs id suggest a external cooling tank and your engine is under tanked 4hp per sq foot is required based on a a bmc 15/1800 with 39hp when new
Thanks for that! There’s also one on the starboard side (in better condition) - the fix held up on a decent couple of cruises that we’ll share on Sunday! Fingers crossed it keeps going
Hi guys. I am thinking of buying a narrow boat. Did you guys use to live in your van. I have a vw crafter camper. I live in a house. I am thinking selling up and just taking a slower approach to all.
Just wondering. Don't the boat have an automatic bilge pump. Most have one. Mind you if you had power turned off it wouldn't have worked anyway. But I haven't got a clue regarding boats. 😢
Eek, was worried to see Danni on the canal! I always associate canals with discarded shopping trolleys, disease ridden rats and industrial solution... just don't fall in!!

It’s the ingress of water that we’re not 100% sure where it’s coming from yet so we’ll have to monitor it as we go. Also clickbait unfortunately does work, we don’t often make things sound worse than they are but every now and again. - it’s works because of how human brains seem to be drawn to negative rather than positive news
For god sakes man don't crawl that close to the front of your engine while it's running. If it catches your shirt you're going to be in a world of hurt

A cheaper alternative to kitchen rolls for soaking up unwanted liquids is disposable nappies!

Good repair, retapping the hole larger. I keep epoxy putty at hand for general repairs.
Yeah good call!
Can't beat a 'Bath Gem', Joseph ! 😜👍
Probably my go to ale from any local brewery. I’d recommend the tour if you’re anywhere local! (It’s closer to Bristol than Bath strangely 😂)
I hope you had no more water ingress. Great Vlog as always. Thank you. Take Care.

Sounds like your water pump suction line is clogged. Burst of pressure, then low flow, then pump takes a long time to stop running.
